you can labour and give birth with nothing on even on a bed!
I know of plenty of people (okay, mostly one here! Blush ) that couldn't stand clothing on them when they were in the thick of it.

super itchy and a bit red?
could be prickly heat. hold a cool flannel on them, but watch it doesn't stay too long.

OP posts:
PrincessAppleSeed · 09/11/2011 10:11

Thanks. The red and heat has passed but feel sick as a dog. Had the morning off today (it was going to be our chat and plan with the ivf nurse, where we get taught how to do injections, etc!). So tried to sleep in, but was so hungry I had to get up. One slice of bovril toast with water and I'm hanging over the toilet bowl!

At least with a hangover you know it'll only last one day. Uurgh!!!!

Sorry to moan, but I think my DH is running out of "Aahh, there there" noises!

nickelbabe · 09/11/2011 10:58

"have you tried ginger?" Grin

seriously - I got through it by drinking ginger beer and eating ginger nut biscuits. (there's a chance I had it easy anyway, but it's worth a try! Grin )

How cool must that feel - it was your day off to see the IVF nurse, but instead you're big fat PG puking into the toilet GrinGrin

OP posts:
PrincessAppleSeed · 09/11/2011 11:30

Yes, v cool! I do keep pinching myself that it has really happened.

Will go get some ginger biscuits, see how they help. Not keen on ginger ale or ginger tea, but biscuits I could handle!

How are you today?

nickelbabe · 09/11/2011 14:05

I wouldn't drink ginger tea [bleugh]
and ginger ale was only when I was desperate (or actually, not feeling too sick)

I'm fat and heavy.
I made DH finally buy me one of those exercise balls yesterday, and I blew it up in the evening ,and sat on it. I was sooo comfortable!
Okay, it's not exactly slouchy, and that's quite annoying, but my back didn't hurt, and I was able to shift position without making myself even more uncomfortable.
all-in-all, it was the most comfortable I've been in weeks!
definitely recommend that when you get to 30-odd weeks!
Grin

OP posts:
PrincessAppleSeed · 09/11/2011 20:21

How intruiging! I have wondered how they can possibly be comfortable - like you said, no slouching! So you were comfy, even though your back wasn't supported. Well, long may it last!

I was fuming this evening. Absolutely grrr.... Angry Angry

I told my boss today that I wouldn't be needing IVF (she knew this was planned because I'd had to cancel some clinics at short notice and thought i'd need to cancel more for scans and things). Anyways, I said I'd not be needing it as I was pregnant. And after saying - "oh, that's nice" (or some such thing) she said "so in the end it's been a fuss about nothing" - referring to IVF. Angry

She then asked when I was going on maternity and when I was coming back. Even I know they're not allowed to do that! I said I'd been struggling with sickness and tiredness. She said she did when she was pregnant and just had to go to bed earlier and get up earlier, in order to get the sickness out of the way and carry on as usual. I then suggested that I'd like a break morning and afternoon and she said she wasn't sure that'd be possible.

Honestly! My DH has suggested I call in sick the next couple of days and see how she likes that!

Will now research employment law in pregnancy.

At least your boss doesn't give you a hard time when you're feeling grotty, Nickel. Oh, wait, that's you!!

Right, will continue nursing my mint tea whilst curled up in PJs.

nickelbabe · 10/11/2011 10:23

I think it's because of the way your weight is supported. Your pelvis is pushed into a forward tilt, and your legs hold up your weight, so you feel like you're sitting up straight without having to put the effort in.

Your boss is well out of order! Shock
If I were you, I'd find some information about the law regarding maternity and insist on discussing it with her (or at least its implications)
have you got an HR department that can help?

Yes, my boss has been a right bitch all the way through Wink - no time off work, no comfort breaks, so sitting down to rest, always on the shop floor and working. If only I'd thought to join a union!

and god, do I feel sick today. I've got a niggling dull ache in my body, and I feel like I'm going to hurl (not nausea, though, which is odd).
I'm hoping it's down to indigestion.
oh, I've got a headache too.

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 10/11/2011 12:12

ooh, think i'm getting some braxton hicks.
exciting.
strange tightening around the bump, sort of mainly underneath it.
and making me need a wee.

Not sure if I posted this before?

Would anyone on here like a tens machine:
m.boots.com/mt/www.boots.com/en/Boots-Maternity-TENS_21164/. New pads can be purchased cheaply from boots.

Also have Ina May's Guide to Childbirth. Found it really helpful to read some positive birth stories in the lead up.

Still unpacking at the moment as just moved house. Would be able to post within next two weeks though Smile

CuriosityCola · 10/11/2011 16:37

I don't think I ever had braxton hicks. Very exciting!

I second the birthing ball. Didn't use it in labour but it got ds in a great position. Was very comfy in final weeks and actually just after the birth. Both dh and I still sit on it now when rocking ds Smile (yes he is ruinedBlush)

nickelbabe · 10/11/2011 17:23

not me, thanks anyway Cola - I've got one donated from DH's mum.
(we do need to get some of those pads though - it's got 2 pads and it needs 4)

OP posts:
BamBam21 · 10/11/2011 18:29

Hi everyone.

No thank you for the tens machine cola. Are they any good? I never used one when I had DS. I did, however, use a ball to sit on and it was fabby. I've been offered one from the girl I know who is due soon, so quite chuffed about that!Smile

Your boss sounds a nightmare princess.Sad I hope maybe your HR department can put her straight on your rights.

Oooh nickel that all sounds exciting there! Hope you are okay though - the feeling like hurling doesn't sound too pleasant!Smile

Day 9 on the big quit here!!Grin I feel pleased with myself, but still finding it hard. I am using patches that the useless stop-smoking midwife gave me, and also mini-lozenges, but I don't want to use them for too long. One day, I will find that I get through the whole day without thinking about it.Smile

CuriosityCola · 10/11/2011 20:34

No worries. Just felt like it was a waste sitting in the drawer. I found the tens amazing. Know plenty of people who didn't get on with it though. Think it is a love it or hate it thing Grin

Well done on the no smoking front BamBam.

PrincessAppleSeed · 10/11/2011 21:11

Exciting stuff nickel. Has anything more happened? How do you tell Braxton hicks from the real thing? I hope I learn all this stuff.

Ooo...that reminds me. Did anyone do/doing or planning on doing (!) NCT classes? Like the sound of them, but pricey. Also mine would be in the next town from me. Not far, but not ideal for the whole "make friends forever" thing. 20 minute drive away.

cola I haven't given birth and tens machines, etc a moments thought. Kind of that "if I ignore it, it may go away!". If you recommend it, I won't say no! Thanks.

Keep going bambam! (you were just corrected to bamboo!). Day by day. Don't worry about using help. Anything to stay....dry?.....clean?....sweet smelling?!

As you can tell, I'm feeling a bit more perky today. Depending on which website I look at, my baby is the size of a grain of rice or a grape. Correct me if I'm wrong, but where I'm from those two objects vary hugely in size!

No HR department...she's it! A small company of husband and wife (he's the other Optician and she's practice manager), one dispenser and 2 receptionists. But have decided she is a B.I.T.C.H and can go jump! She didn't speak to me today. The husband is lovely and cried when I told him! They have to look after me and work now comes second. So there!!

Right, better post before this gets lost. Nice chatting.

X

CuriosityCola · 10/11/2011 21:30

Princess, if you pm me your address I will send it to you as soon as its located again. I think it is worth trying. You might love it. The worst that can happen is you find it annoying and can take it off.

Would highly recommend nct classes. The content was quite good, though i knew most of it from mumsnet Grin Dh and I attended every Sunday for 6weeks. I meet the group once a week for lunch and we go to some baby classes together. I don't know what I would do without them to be honest. Dh meets the guys for a drink every couple of months.

nickelbabe · 11/11/2011 10:48

Princess - how do yo uknwo BH from the real thing?
I dunno! I'm just guessing it's not the real thing because it doesn't hurt, and it's not an obvious squeeze iyswim?
I don't even know if it was BH! Grin
It could just have been turning or moving, or my knickers digging in! Grin
it did feel different from any of the movements I've had so far, though - almost like muscle tightening at the bottom of the bump.
I have been told since that proper contractions generally start at the top.

Dh & I were having breakfast this morning, and we were holding hands, where his arm was pressing against my side, and Isbn kicked, which I felt, obv, then he went "oooh! I just felt that! I got an almighty kick!" - It hadn't occurred to me that he would feel it because he wasn't actively touching the bump Blush
awww.

didn't bother with NCt, as the local NHS ones were really good.

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 11/11/2011 10:49

now, I've got a few maternity clothes that I haven't worn - might not be any good, but I think they're supposed to be size 12 or 14.

I can send to anyone who wants to have a go?

MightilyOats · 12/11/2011 09:03

I second NCT classes, birth/gym balls and tens machines (though with the latter I both loved it and after having it on full blast for 24 hours hated the thing Grin)

Gym ball great to lean over in last few weeks too Nickel, pop a blanket or pillow on the top and a pillow for you to kneel on and drape whilst watching telly - gets baby out of your back.

NCT was great, didn't learn an awful lot more, but although we're spread out over the city we see eachother for cake every week. Bumps and babies is good for meeting other mums too.

Yes those were BHs, you may get some painless proper cx too, where the top of your bump goes square to push baby down Smile

Ps sorry for double post (grr)!

Well done Bam, keep up good work!

Also while I think about it, when you go into labour you won't give a damn whose poking around in your fanjo, you get amazingly distanced from it as you're a) absorbed in being in labour and b) desperate to know how much further dilated you are!

no, it's just katee double posting Grin

OP posts:
PrincessBakedBean · 12/11/2011 13:12

Here we are - in honour of being 7+4, we have grown to the size of (approx) a baked bean. Seems half way between the grain of rice and grape that were the suggestions for 7 weeks!

Thanks, Cola for the offer of the tens. I'll pm you soon. Almost everyone who has done NCT has spoken positively of them. Will look into it a bit more - DH isn't all that keen ATM, but early days.

Hope you're feeling back to normal Nickel. So cool that your DH felt Isbn kick! Is it true that your bump really changes shape as the baby kicks?

Katee - that is strangely reassuring about being in labour. I generally take things as they come and know that whatever I'm experiencing is normal and the MWs have seen it all before. Helps to be kinda relaxed, I guess.

Although my lovely little sis gave us some baby-gros yesterday. 0-3 months The Very Hungry Caterpillar ones. So cute - but imagining someone big enough to fit them, then making an appearance through my fanjo was rather disturbing!

My DH is so excited about the whole thing. Its amazing. He keeps being super affectionate and is thrilled that we're having a baby. It makes it even more special and real, IYSWIM.

The sickness has eased up the last couple of days. I'm v grateful and refuse to now worry that it's disappearance significe (can't spell that, sorry!) anything. V bloated though - look 5 months gone already!

Ooo...got my 12 week scan date through! It's on 11+6. Do need to see if I can change the time though - it's in the middle of the day and DH works 45 mins away, so early or late is better. But can't wait to see our baby. Will make it all the more real.

Ok, I have totally whittered on in a very self-centred way. I apologise. Hope everyone is well and enjoying a lazy Saturday. Off into town with my older sis and 2 nieces.

nickelbabe · 12/11/2011 13:23

oh, god, yes it changes shape!
when the baby sticks its arse out of my belly, or when it moves around ,the bump changes shape to suit.
I think it's quite funny, like it's saying "there's no room in here bloody give me some roooooom" Grin

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 12/11/2011 13:24

did you feel that way about the clothes?
I suppose when you think about the size of something inside you, it seems weird.
when I looked at clothes, I was more "how on earth can a human being be small enough to fit in that ? Confused"
