Having a mad busy Friday, but still good - it is, afterall, FRIDAY Grin!
Am catching up with work and preparing for our "Executuve strategy meeting" in Frankfurt next week, I would much rather be making bats!!!
kri5ty you'll have to let me know about the pregnancy massage - I'm beginning to feel the aches and pains much more now, so could do with a bit of pampering!
I've "entered my 25th week of pregnancy" today, and apparently el bambino is sensitive to touch so I can start tickling the areas where he kicks, and rolling from side to side to test reactions... This could be fun. :)
Anyone got anything nice planned for the weekend? Or will be all slumped in front of the TV, knackered, and enjoying the guilty pleasure of ridiculous X Factor auditions? (I'm babysitting my 12 yo nephew on Saturday, and that's definitely what he'll want to do. Must try and find something interesting for us to do on Sat afternoon, stupots is working. :( )

OiMissus · 19/08/2011 12:50

Sorry to hear about your day honey. :( It'll get better.
Sounds like you need the cure-all pasty and apple turnover. :)
(hmmm... just had an egg mayo flimsy sandwich... that really isn't adequate for a growing girl like me... maybe I should go and get some cream cakes...)

HoneyLovesCake · 19/08/2011 13:03

Oooh, cream cakes, that's an idea...I wonder if rhubarb crumble with clotted cream would do the trick Hmm Otherwise I'll have to ask DP to bring me something home & he has an annoying tendency to point out that I wanted to eat healthily through my pregnancy...he doesn't seem to realise this doesn't apply to days I'm feeling tired & emotional.

BluebellsintheSpring · 19/08/2011 13:04

Honeylovescake - hope your day gets better soon. Hypnobirthing lady seems to be providing a bit of a poor service!

V interesting on breastfeeding chat msbuggywinkle. My mum, my sis and I all have terrible circulation and suffer from the fingers and toes draining of all colour v quickly. Mum had a v bad time breastfeeding so that info is v interesting. Also, does b/f help protect against Crohns? Noticed you mentioned something about this - my hubby has Crohns and it runs in his extended family. Luckily he seems to suffer with it a lot less than most but it is a worry.

Hope everyone has nice weekend plans!

sevensevenseven · 19/08/2011 13:25

Stop talking about cream cakes, babygirl still only wants sweet things, I have marshmallows in the cupboard!

honey hope your day gets better.

BeeMyBaby · 19/08/2011 13:29

I have to admit DD is still on follow on fomula at 18 months - she just really dislikes plain old non-expensive, non sugary cows milk, plus as she still refuses to eat most of the time I think at least the formula milk is giving her a few extra nutrients.

I'm not sure how well BF does protect against IBD, my sister and I both ended up with ulcerative colitis even though we were both BF, on the other hand mine is very slight and I was BF for 2 years where as I think my sister was only BF for just over a year and hers was very bad (much better after years of medication). On the other hand it could just be sods law.

Had a horrible experience yesterday at a soft play area for under 4's - firstly a horrible little boy (who I think was at least 4) shouted at DD and pushed her, before pushing some other little boy over (where were this older boys parents?!) and then about 20 minutes later another boy who definitely looked over 4 made this big foam thing (which was the size of an adult) fall on me and almost hit my bump, which very much freaked me out - 2 minutes later the same child misbehaving on giant foam thing made it fall on DD at which point I screamed and burst into tears. Luckily she was ok but we left quickly after that and made a complaint on the way out.

figgygal · 19/08/2011 13:46

LAdies serious question 24 weeks today and tomorrow was supposed to be going to longleat with DH work associates. Turns out one of their kids has chickenpox i have definitely had it as a kid and so should be immune but cant help but think Hmm would you still go?
I am sure we will be outside most of the time and i can just avoid the diseased little fella?

BeeMyBaby · 19/08/2011 13:52

I don't think it would be a problem, although it was after DD was born (she was about 10 weeks old) DH got chicken pox and as I was BF, DD was immune - so if the immunity can pass through BM I would presume it was even stronger when baby was in utero?

Awomancalledhorse · 19/08/2011 13:55

figgy, I wouldn't go just because if I got a little fever or something a few days later it would send me into a panic.

Hope your day gets better Honey, and cakes make an apperance.

Tonight I'm over at my best mates with a bottle of wine (well, he'll be drinking it, I have grape juice!) and a takeaway whilst we set up his dating profile on some dating sites. It has the makings of an awful rom-com film Grin

jomouse · 19/08/2011 14:14

Honey - sorry about the hypnobirthing lady.
From what I hear people have done it themselves and still felt full benefits. You need to start listening to the cd's religiously and really WORK at it whereas the course sounds a bit easier.
I have a cd that I can copy and send out to you if you like?

Its Friday :)

In other news, my poor cat has a massively swollen paw from somewhere. Its huge and he can't put any weight on it so we will have to take him to the vets later. Poor little monkey face. Keeping a close eye on him between VERY boring conference calls

DarciesmumandBump2 · 19/08/2011 14:22

Honey Sorry to hear your having a bad day, hopefully things will get better.

Kri5ty thankfully I have someone to relate to with Raynards.

MsBuggy Thanks for all that info Smile I normally take Nifidepene (sp?) but IRS unsafe to use in pregnancy. So I look like a smurf really easily when it's cold. I was bundled up yesterday looking like an Eskimo!

Took DD to Arundal Wetlands Centre this morning was lovely weather but didn't see much. Then DP treated us to lunch out Smile baby hasnt stopped moving today Grin

Going to friends party tonight so should be good.

HoneyLovesCake · 19/08/2011 14:45

Thanks AWCH I think I'm going to have to call DP for a cream cake as I'm still in a mood but I'm trying to lift myself out of it by buying cute baby things on ebay Grin

Does anyone know if you really need a snowsuit if you're using a sling? Do you count the sling as one of your layers (as in; they should be wearing one more layer than you)? If DC is under my coat in a sling wouldn't a snowsuit make them overheat?

jomouse that's really kind of you; I'll email you my address if that's ok. Even if we do manage to book a course I think it'd be good to start practising before hand...might give me an idea if it's going to work for me or not. I'd heard that your birthing partner is really important with hypnobirthing since they help guide you into it & I'm not sure I can get DP motivated to follow a cd without the back up of a course but I'll give it a go.

Sorry to hear about your cat; my cat's had a really swollen jaw a couple of times now (probably from eating bees) but it's always been at night & been fine by morning. Personally I prefer to wait a while before rushing my pets to the vet; I just don't like how quick they are to pump them with drugs I'd think twice about taking myself Hmm

figgy I wouldn't go, partly because I don't think I've ever had chicken pox but partly because I read online that it's a myth you can only get it once. Shock

Mmmmcheese · 19/08/2011 16:41

figgygal - surely your friend shouldn't be taking their child out to public places if he has chickenpox? I remember when I had it as a kid I wasn't allowed to sit in the doctor's waiting room but had to sit in isolation. There may be pregnant women around who haven't had chickenpox and surely that's not fair on them? I'm sure you'd be Ok but would you end up just feeling stressed/anxious for days afterwards? Apparently there is up to 21 days incubation period!

HoneyLovesCake - if you can fit your coat over your baby in a sling then you don't need a snowsuit but if they are exposed i.e. you can't do your coat up then you'll probably need a snowsuit. I used a sling loads with DS and hardly ever used the pram, I found that a snowsuit came in really handy, particularly in keeping feet etc. warm without having to worry about socks falling off!

Has anyone else watched the Great British Bake Off? I recorded it and saw it the other day and am now obsessing about baking chocolate cake! I just can't be bothered though! Might just have to stuff my face with ice-cream instead :)

LittleMissFlustered · 19/08/2011 16:46

My cat is being microchipped next week. Dread to think what delightful revenge he will concoct for me...

Sorry that many of you are feeling unwell and/or grumpy. I'm having a rough MH week, am very ready for a break. Kids are going away for a night next week so am going to use the time to go for a swim at the quiet late session and unwind a little.

jomouse · 19/08/2011 16:55

Yummmmm Great British Bake Off....and that handsome lad who dropped his cake. So sweet.

I don't know what I'm thinking...not quite old enough to be his mother, but still

ANYWAY - husband came home early to do the cat vet thing. Bless him. stops thinking about floppy haired youths instantly

msbuggywinkle · 19/08/2011 17:31

Yep, sling counts as a layer. Here's what I do, baby wears top, cardigan, sling then I wear one of DP's coats over the top of us both.

Really amazingly clever thing...thermoregulation. When you're breastfeeding, your breasts change temp according to whether your baby needs to be warmed up or cooled down. Slings where you have skin contact have the same effect if you're a bfing Mum.

A study was done with bfing Mums of twins, the researchers warmed one baby, cooled the other then put both on her chest, skin to skin. One breast warmed up to warm the cold baby, the other got cooler to cool the hot baby down.

Women are really incredible!

Awomancalledhorse · 19/08/2011 17:53

msbuggy, that's so interesting! If I were a stoner I'd be sitting here going 'woah, dude'.

Stupid pregnancy brain moment of the day; staying at my mates this week (we're having work done on flat), and I left the freezer open last night Blush You'll all be glad to hear the ice cream was fine, yaaay!

Ya'know, you're all starting to sound a little cake obsessed. Keep up the good work (eclairs & apple turnovers in the fridge here) Grin

aethelfleda · 19/08/2011 21:22

Mmmm.... CAKE....

I've got some info on chickenpox, will send to figgy, if anyone else wants it pm me.

aethelfleda · 19/08/2011 21:27

And honey; jawdrop at the cheeky hypnobirth lady- clearly has an inflated view of her own self-worth! I think you're best not gracing her with your hard-earned cash...

LittleMissFlustered · 20/08/2011 10:12

jo Totally getting the floppy haired lad. He ticks all my boxes Blush

sevensevenseven · 20/08/2011 10:42

Wondered if anyone can advise me. I bought some Vaseline intensive care moisturiser on Thursday as my skin is getting a bit dry. I've just noticed on the label that it contains vitamins E and A. I'm not too concerned as I've only used it for a couple of days but would you assume it's the plant-based vitamin A or stop using it?

Hope everyone has a good weekend

msbuggywinkle · 20/08/2011 11:54

I would use it seven. It has to be a HUGE quantity of vit A to cause problems, and the amount that will get into your bloodstream from your skin must be tiny.

We've spent this morning organising HE resources (exciting stuff!) and are off to see PIL this afternoon. Thinking about BBQ this evening as it is gorgeous weather!

sevensevenseven · 20/08/2011 13:48

Thanks msbuggy. it's such a gorgeous day, I'm wearing my most summery floaty dress, last Saturday I had a coat on! Enjoy your BBQ, I'm having a trashy night of Chinese and x-factor.

OiMissus · 20/08/2011 14:15

I feel so tired today. I'm vegging in front of the tv - on a Saturday afternoon! - what's going on? I need to find some energy - I could sleep. ( the weather is dull and grey here).

aethelfleda · 20/08/2011 15:24

Just got back from a failed trip to mothercare to look for a pair of maternity work trousers- everything is under-the-bump. Kicking myself for passing om the 2 pairs i lived in for the DDs, we thought we'd not be needong them again.... Tempted to try a self-alteration hatchet job with half a ton of elastic, as I think it may be quicker and easier than
Trawling round a hundred shops with no energy.

And of course it's 4 years since I last needed to maternity/baby shop so everything seems sooo pricey! I suspect
we'll be buying a lot less this time, have already got the thumbscrews on a few nice mummy friends to pass things along!!
