Welcome to the new thread ladies!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
OiMissus · 15/08/2011 17:58

I'm still holding out to win some competitions! Wink

LittleMissFlustered · 15/08/2011 19:57

I ought to think about stuff. I posted in the pushchair thread as I am having a bit of a brain fart there.

I have a cot, but it is a bit old and I am not sure what size mattress I need for it, so I am tempted to get a cheapish new one.

I need to buy babygrows and vests. And a snowsuit. I am pondering getting my knitting needles out, but my wrists tend to get a bit hacked off with me if I attempt to do too much:(

BluebellsintheSpring · 15/08/2011 20:22

Thanks for all the advice! Will def air on side of caution although not quite as cautious as hubby wants - he's 50% below what mortgage company say we can have.

Given that we've just put our own house up for sale, we haven't done any prep here either for baby as not sure where we'll be! I'm also taking the stance that a nursery doesn't need done until 6 months - have crib for our room and that will have to do to start. A little jealous of all who have started their decorating though.

msbuggywinkle love the sound of that giant futon!

fusam · 15/08/2011 21:15

msbuggywinkle The giant futon is a great idea. Would you have the newborn on the edge next to you? Do you need to go to bed with the DDs or do they go off themselves? Sorry for all the questions, DD still wakes in the middle of the night and kicks DH out of the bed so this might be the solution we need.

sevensevenseven · 15/08/2011 21:45

My only prep really has been shopping so far. I'm only trying to get it done early so I can afford to do the Christmas shopping without having to leave it until I'm enormous. I'm really keen to get the nursery all decorated and ready but I think it's only because DS was (unintentionally) in our room until he was 2.8.

Another question here for msbuggy, sorry. Just wondering other than alcohol is there anything we need to avoid when BFing?

OiMissus · 16/08/2011 07:28

When I was little, the carpet in my mum and dad's room was a different colour to the landing carpet, and we weren't allowed to cross that line. We never used to sleep in mum and dad's bed, we weren't allowed in their room. That just seemed perfectly normal to me. I know it sounds a bit cold, but (at the moment - I may relinquish) I like the idea of our bedroom being "ours" (mine and DH's).
But the big futon does sound like fun. :)

kri5ty · 16/08/2011 07:39

oooo i remember that too! I used to get a sence of panic if i even stepped foot on to my mums brown bedroom carpet! i used to stand i the doorway, and would never cross!

msbuggywinkle · 16/08/2011 07:59

fusam Yes, when I did newborn and toddler in bed last time we went...newborn, me, toddler (she was still nursing over night sometimes), DP. DD2 is happy to sleep cuddling DP about half of the time though so we'll probably gently encourage her to sleep closer to him than me.

seven You don't need to avoid anything, including alcohol. Alcohol is metabolised back out of breast milk at the same rate it is from blood, which means that as soon as your baby has a couple of hours gap, drinking is no problem. In any case, only a very tiny amount of alcohol gets into breast milk at all, and we generally say that if you're sober enough to drive you're sober enough to breast feed.

I love my family bed, we all have a joint lie in at the weekends...the DDs jump on the bed and giggle and chase each other around, DP and I cuddle, drink coffee and let them get on with it!

DarciesmumandBump2 · 16/08/2011 08:17

Oimissus that happened to us. We weren't allowed into mum & dads room. However, I loved my bed so was happy to stay put.

DD only ever comes into our bed if she's really poorly, or when she brings up cattarhh. Other than that no entry lol.

Taking DD to Paultons Park & Peppa Pig world today. Feeling quite emotional this morning so hopefully will sort me out x

OiMissus · 16/08/2011 08:24

Peppa Pig World! I will soon find out for real that these places really do exist! ha ha! It'll be nice to be a big kid again - that's the best bit about babysitting - I love swings and roundabouts!
Oh my - horrid thought - on maternity leave, will I start watching daytime TV?!!? Shriek- the horror! noooo!
Off to the airport now, if they try and make me take off my shoes to go through security I think I will get emotional - don't they realise how difficult it is to put on and take off shoes with a bump?! Bending down is such hard work! tra for now, have a great day everyone. :)

kri5ty · 16/08/2011 08:37

msbuggy your lie ins sounds amazing!!!! Can i join in? :o lol

yup vanessa and the thomas the tank railway!! And oh yes, you shall be watching Daybreak/ Jeremy Kyle/ This Morning / coach trip / house guests / come dine with me etc etc in no time lol

sevensevenseven · 16/08/2011 13:07

Hope everyone is having a good day. I've got a busy day tomorrow. I've got my repeat 20 week scan at lunchtime and 22 week MW appointment in the afternoon. I just hope the baby's behaving for the scan this time. My mum's babysitting tomorrow night so we can go out for dinner, as I know otherwise we'll eat rubbish as I'll say I can't be bothered to cook.

LittleMissFlustered · 16/08/2011 13:08

Not true kri5ty I have never watched an of those you listed in my own home! I have caught some JK at a friends, but she is a childminder and sets the sky to ITV and then hides the buttons, then turns the TV off. If her charges try to get a sneaky cartoon in, they get a face full of Vile. Oddly enough, they feel that this is unfair Funny to observe...

Off out later to do a little more school shopping. Urgh.

aethelfleda · 16/08/2011 20:55

Wow, two weeks holiday and there's 18 pages of new thread! Hiya girls.

I had my 21 week scan today (am due dec 27th) and baby was fine- a boy! Dd1 and Dd2 came and watched and were very pleased.

Not so good was the low placenta I seem to have. Boo hiss. Now paranoid in case I bleed, and have to wait until 32 weeks for a repeat scan to see if its moved up enough for me to have a normal delivery. There's nothing I can do other than wait, not overdo things and try to avoid wibbling. Sigh.

mopsytop · 16/08/2011 21:04

What a bummer about the placenta aethel grrr - hope it moves up for you.
Congrats on the scan and the boy - I think that means boys are still outnumbering girls on this thread?!

sevensevenseven · 16/08/2011 22:09

aethelfleda hope you had a good holiday. Congrats on having a boy, annoying about your placenta but still time for it to move as yet.

aethelfleda · 16/08/2011 23:00

Thanks girls. Am really pleased the baby's OK, suspected it might be a boy as my food dislikes are different this time (can't stand ham/bacon!) and whereas
With the DDs I was totally off tea and coffee, this time around I can't do tea again, but black coffee seems OK. Weird.

Though the old wives tales about boys sticking oit doesnt seem to be working, my bump is weirdly girl-shaped.

dD1 was just saying how she wanted a DS for christmas, too....

LittleMissFlustered · 17/08/2011 01:01

One present to cross off the list then aethel Grin

Scan a week tomorrow for me. Will probably not find out the flavour, though that is subject to change as hormones are most definitely in charge at the minute :)

msbuggywinkle · 17/08/2011 07:37

aethel Placentas usually do move, and if they described it as 'low' rather than down covering your cervix then the chances are very good that it will move.

Planning on not doing much today...well, DD1 wants me to make her a snail shell costume which will be, erm, interesting...

kri5ty · 17/08/2011 07:49

haha littleMissFlustered can you tell the rubbish i watch if i am off work?? i tend to slob out on the sofa feeling sorry for myself with trash tv so i dont have to concentrate... plus JK makes me feel better about myself lol

DarciesmumandBump2 · 17/08/2011 08:33

Morning Ladies,

Had a great day with DD at Paulton's Park she went on everything Grin Slept all night too hehe

Day doing bits and bobs and seeing my best friend today so need cuppa & chat!

Antenatal appt later.

Congrats on your scan and that your having a boy Smile hopefully your placenta will move.

DarciesmumandBump2 · 17/08/2011 08:34

Aethel thought I'd added that in my post opps Blush

aethelfleda · 17/08/2011 09:19

Thanks for all the encouragement girls, I'm feeling a bit better this morning (though I did have a crazy hormone- dream about having a huge bleed last night, clearly the expression of my inmer anxiety. Fortunately in the dream I wasn't in my actual home (as in the rooms were different so it didn't feel very real and freaky).

I know the stats for it moving are good and will keep you posted when I've had the 32 week scan. It was just a shock yesterday when the tech was cagey about it being low. Plus I had a friend who had placenta previa and had about 6 weeks of hospital bedrest and a section at 34 weeks so the thought of being away from my DDs for weeks is chilling. It's all stuff that will probably not happen but you know what the pregnant mind is like!

aethelfleda · 17/08/2011 09:23

Oh and msbuggy, the report (which I read when I got home) actually says "low anterior extending to the os", so its not covering it but is not clear either. I've got a bit of medical knowledge so I googled (don't try this at home!) and providing it moves to 2cm away from the cervix when they rescan I should be allowed to labour normally.

I need some distraction... Anyone got some good pictures of Johnny Depp?

sevensevenseven · 17/08/2011 10:05

Good luck with the snail costume msbuggy!
