Hope you are all well this morning

BuffyFan · 12/08/2011 08:23

Thanks MrsA. I know it will be different with my own little boy. Plus I always seem to see other people's children at their most exuberant (they were going to Thomas the Tank Engine World, after all!).

Thoughts going out to all of you with cares and woes at the moment - it seems like there are too many to name :(

My DH is panicking about getting the nursery sorted - he's taking time off to decorate (awww...) but seems to forget that there's still all of September and October to finish up in, let alone the three weeks in November when I'll be off (hopefully) before LO arrives. I need to think of something nice I can do to (a) say thank you and (b) calm him down!

PamSco · 12/08/2011 08:55

Buffy when I read "nursery sorted" I had a panic as we still haven't visited alternatives to the one I have my name down for. Then of course I realised it was a different nursery and the panic doubled as I haven't started on The Boy's room!

Ach well plenty of time. Eek

Morning all. Just a quick check in whilst the LOs finish brekkie. Feeling shattered and nauseous today after a volunteering day at our local Ronald McDonald house where I probably overdid it a bit. Great to be able to do something to help such a great charity - I am very aware how lucky I am to live somewhere that has such a great Childrens' Hospital just minutes away. Very happy to have chiro appt today - she is helping me so much

H007 keeping everything crossed for you - the waiting is horrible

Caz hope Xander is being super wiggly to keep you reassured - we're nearly at the 28 week milestone now, keep counting down

Sorry not to name check anyone else, on phone so lost track a bit - hope all those with worries find some calm

Bristol Balloon fiesta this weekend so hope weather cheers up - it's an incredible sight if they get off the ground!

CazandBelle · 12/08/2011 10:06

Yes lots of RL support. weekly check ups are definitely keeping me quite calm. if I have a wobble mid week I know there is only 2-3days till I see someone which is reassuring. 31-32 weeks will be the hardest couple to get through I guess because that is when I threatened prem-labour and then the week after Belle died.

I slept a bit better last night so feeling more with it today :) and yes Xander seems to be more active than his sister ever was. We played him music again the other night and he wasn't at all interested untill DH put on Metallica and then Marilyn Manson, then he started really kicking! DH is thrilled and is convinced it means his son is already a head banger metal head like him! lol! I've said he was probably protesting at all the noise!

We're going to resort the nursery through September I think. I would like it finished by the time I'm off on maternity leave anyway so I can use the 2 weeks before induction to wash and put away his clothes...

stripeymummy · 12/08/2011 10:22

Good morning everyone,

Having a lazy day today as had a quite hectic one yesterday and my pelvis is complaining. Though we went to see HP2 last night, it was fab and certainly woke Modom up, she was wriggling and jumping for the 1st half, but calmed down in the 2nd (hope that was her getting used to the noise and we haven't caused any damage Confused)

Talking of pelvis problems: where can I get giant tubigrips thingys? They sound ace. I am currently wearing cheapy bump bands from New Look, but I don't know if they're really doing much, bit of a placebo effect me thinks. But I really really don't want to end up on crutches for the last few weeks, so they might be a wee bit of a solution.

Buffy it's very sweet your DH panicking :) THB I have been the one panicking about getting our room sorted out. We have decided to keep the wain in the room with us the first 6 months, and as were planning to move asap after the baby's born, thought there was no point in sorting out a nursery. So we have lots of heavy furniture to move about and I keep pointing to DH that we need to get it sorted now before I get too big and knackered and then he'll have to so EVERYTHING!! Although when we first found out I was pregnant he did get a very scared look in his eyes and dash off to do random DIYing - bless :)

One last thing: has anyone else found that when they bend over if feels like they've been winded? All the air from my lungs just seem to vanish and I have to stand puffing for a few seconds to get my breath back. I am assuming that this is the womb putting pressure on my lungs/diaphragm?

Right, I'm of to listen to some Rebus and reminisce about my days in the 'burgh (they weren't as grim as a Rebus novel though)

cookie9 · 12/08/2011 11:01

Got my tubigrip from hospital so I suppose it depends on the postcode lottery!

Parents visiting this weekend so quite excited as although mum flew down when I was I'll dad had to stay at home so he hasn't seen me since April. I look a bit different now!

How does the Facebook thing work?

Caz glad you are getting support. Hoping Xander enjoying his heavy metal and kicking you. Did you get offered c section or do you prefer induction? I am still weighing up the risks of both.

Ziggimajiggi · 12/08/2011 13:36

Hi there,

Pam - so sorry to hear about your thigh, hope the tubigrio helps.

007 - thinking of you and hope the waiting is over soon

Caz - glad to hear the wee one is wriggling away!

I am soooooooooooooo glad it's Friday. Third lot of festival guests left yesterday and I spent the evening in completely unreasonable hormonal meltdown. Poor DH. I could see him wondering if anything was seriously wrong or if it was a hormonal thing, but was too scared to ask. It's much tougher emotionally than I thought being pregnant. I feel really needy, which isn't at all like me. I am so independent nromally but it's all crumbled. Blush

Anyway! PMA today - It's FRRRRRIIIIIIIIIDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! And the House Bunny came from Love Film today. I adore terrible movies :)

Everyone have a great weekend.

Staceroo · 12/08/2011 13:55

HI all! Just a little bookmark on my lunch break! Hope everyone is feeling better now it's Friday!

Off to google mamas and papas reviews now, as we've picked our furniture that we want from there! :-(

Have a nice weekend everyone! I've got a busy one ahead!

Katiebeau · 12/08/2011 15:29

Staceroo M&P did actually contact me as promised today. I informed the nice lady I have seen a lot (and added to) negative comments via Mumsnet etc.... Apparently the big bosses are aware now and have issued some major changes to try and resolve the issues. They aren't happy about the number of small claims they have to deal with that cannot possibly win where customer services should have given a refund. They also are mortified their new distribution is worse than the old one (especially for damaged good etc). When I mentioned mine arrived in a hire van, not even the company logo van this was taken seriously and is been investigated. I am frustrated but like you - I want that furniture, not anything different!

Caz keep playing him heavy metal!

cep · 12/08/2011 15:36

afternoon ladies. glad everyone sounds ok today.

Am going to see hp2 tonight really looking forward to it, had hoped to eat out but mil can't get here till an hour before the film starts so having a chinese takeaway instead.

katie glad m&p are looking into it all for you.

Katiebeau · 12/08/2011 15:43

Hello CEP - their complaints this year to date are way ahead of all of last year apparently. There is sumat amiss!

cep · 12/08/2011 16:03

Grief, that's awful, someone has obviously changed a rule or something, which was obviously a baaad idea.

alicat10 · 12/08/2011 16:10

I would sum up Mamas and Papas as form over function in my experience - and quite expensive - especially for things like fitted sheets for their non standard size matresses (that said great that they do additional foam mattresses for both carrycot and travelcot)

Customer experience was ok - their car seat was completely unsuitable for DS - his head was just flopping about unsupported and they took it back (but this was the shop) so I was able to switch to the maxi cosi. Also had my original pushchair serviced and that was fine. It proved to be quite unwieldy to push but I really didn't do enought research first time round so only disappointment is that their pushchairs don't hold their value very well for resale (mine cost £500 but was only fetching £100 a year later).

My M&P mat clothes have survived 3 of my pregnancies and some lending out, the nursery soft furnishings (curtains, nappy holder, pics etc) are now about 5 years old and perfectly good for baby no 3.

I have also used a borrowed high chair which had been through about 5 kids and it was great - could tilt and be raised up and down which was great for earlt weaning.

So all in all a mixed bag.

voodoomunkee · 12/08/2011 18:54

Happy Friday !!! What a long long week !! Stripey I LOVE rebus! Very much my favourite thing to read.

OH got two interviews tomorrow so apart from sorting him out for them I have very little planned! The way I like it!

Am having one of those god am so hungry days. I could eat a scabby horse!

neverinamillionyears · 12/08/2011 19:24

Hey all. Like a couple of others on hear I've become a bit of a lurker/stalker. I'm not finding much time lately and end up catching up on my mobile so not the greatest to type on. I do have sausage fingers too.

Caz It sounds like your little man is moving a lot as he must feel that him Mum needs him too. What a sweetie!

I too hate the car park thing but one of my pet hates is when people leave trollies in spaces and don't take them back to the trolley park. I think I've developed 'trolley tourettes'..... "LAZY" or "SHALL I TAKE IT BACK FOR YOU?" I'm the same when people drop stuff off clothes rails and then leave it on the floor. I've always had this form of 'tourettes', not just after all these pregnancy hormones!!

Anyway a question for all the second, third and fourth timers. Have any of you used a nursing glider chair? I'd really like one but can't decide on one, I can't really justify spending £400+ on one.

Worked out my maternity leave, think I'll get about 5 months off. I only get 13 weeks pay and then straight onto SMP, pretty rubbish. So having to go on SMP and use up a load of annual leave. Wonderful eh? I then have to try and find a child minder/nursery that will cater for people who work shifts, both DP and I work varying shifts.

No weekend rest for me, was at court today with an err 'customer', actually that sounds bad, not the paying type customer lol. I'm off on Saturday but back on Sunday for a new set of shifts. yip....ugh :(

voodoomunkee · 12/08/2011 19:33

Never I get 6 weeks at 90% then smp. Bloody brutal isnt it!

I've got an ulcer in my mouth. It's agony! I feel a bit rundown at the mo and need some PMA!

neverinamillionyears · 12/08/2011 19:47

6 weeks!! that is sh...shocking. What do you do?

Erm...PMA. I would say chocolate from the fridge but that won't help your ulcer. Erm...erm....quick quick.

Caliphora · 12/08/2011 19:57

I get NO SMP, and no 90% - I go straight onto 39 weeks of MA.
Joy.

PMA - I just made budget ice cream with left over double cream from the truffles. 6 hours in the freezer - Ice cream for breakfast!

neverinamillionyears · 12/08/2011 20:04

Bloody hell, you two are making me feel bad for mentioning it. :)

I've got a lovely carrot cake in the fridge that I made yesterday. The icing went REALLY REALLY runny. Can any bakers out there help with cream cheese frosting please?

Katiebeau · 12/08/2011 20:10

Never - we still have a glider chair and stool which cost me £86 or close off the internet. Hunt about - it doesn't look quite as posh as the ones in John Lewis but it works great and the covers wash etc. DD 2.5 loves rocking herself on it now!!!

alicat10 · 12/08/2011 20:31

Just seen 88 balloons flying over Bristol - came right in over the city!!

SnoozleDoozle · 12/08/2011 20:46

I too get the bare minimum of maternity pay, the 90% for six weeks then SMP. The only saving grace is that because I only work 20 hours a week, and I will also save at least £150 per month on travel costs, then it won't be such a shock to the system. I have a friend who is on maternity leave at the moment, and has gone down to SMP, and her normal salary is probably in the region of £60/70k, so I'd say its a much bigger shock to her! Its the first time in my life that I have been grateful to just hover around 'average' earnings!

SnoozleDoozle · 12/08/2011 20:49

Never I always find that cream cheese icing seems to get runnier the more icing sugar you put in it, which to me sort of defies logic. But I like it quite cream cheesy, and less sugary, so it suits me ok. Did you make it with just cream cheese and icing sugar, or did you put anything else in it too?

BuffyFan · 12/08/2011 20:52

PamSco hope you?re OK? Massive throwing up session does not sound good.

Stripey I keep having those moments when I realise I?ve done something I shouldn?t have done ? and the most common one is bending over as if I didn?t have a bump. Really makes me feel funny!

Caz my DH is determined this LO is going to hear nothing but the Beatles! So I sneakily play the Glee soundtracks when DH is not around [giggle emoticon]

Voodoomonkey good luck to your OH!!

Re SMP ? 6 weeks at 90% is part of statutory ? so if you?re entitled to SMP, you should be getting 6 weeks at 90%. Sadly anything more than this is your employer being nice to you. Cali it sucks that you?re on MA!

On carrot cake, Never, I find that too with cream cheese icing. Two things I?ve been told: (1) use ?curd cheese? in the shops, not Philly or similar. Apparently it holds its own better. (2) use waaaaay more sugar than you?d expect. That second one works but is really annoying if you don?t want your icing too sweet!

I have sausage fingers too tonight (and sausage toes too!). But LO is kicking away ? still really low down (I can?t remember who mentioned this a while ago). He?s really enjoying my kidneys and bladder today?

Going to pick carpet for the nursery today (and definitely the "sleeping in" type of nursery, not the "paying shedloads of money for" type - haven't got that organised yet!! Grin

BuffyFan · 12/08/2011 20:54

X-posts Snoozle. It sounds like it's impossible to get cream cheese icing right Grin
