h007 my neigbhbours have just cone back from camping with their 8 month old (and 3yr old) after also just returning from visiting family in China.... Braver than me!!!

I love camping too and did our last trip a couple of weeks ago except we have traded in our tent and bought ourselves a vw bay window camper!! Love it!!! Smile

h007 how was your mw apt with your oh? Has anyone else taken partners to them? Is it worth it?

I'm home today, taken a sick day to recoup! Just sooo exhausted!!! Spent most of it sleeping!

H007 · 06/09/2011 16:36

collie he loved it! Unfortunately for the first time since the beginning it wasn't actually my MW that we saw but never mind. It was quite good that he was there as he remember several questions that we had come up with over the last month or so that I completely forgot about and he loved hearing Bean's heartbeat. He did say for the first time ever he felt completely inconsequential (sp?) even when he asked the MW questions she replied to me haha... He found this quite funny and results in a sing song on the way back to work of "it's all about you". I think the biggest thing that the appointment did is it made him feel more involved and now he knows when I go to the MW what happens. I don't think he will attend again but I think he got what he wanted out of it.

Note to self must stop boring people with my massive posts haha

Caliphora · 06/09/2011 16:44

H007 At least you can compete with me and posts :)

Bringing DP to the MW appt - Mr Cali comes if possible - he likes hearing the heart beat, and get to pretend to be protective about me. He also asks the questions I'd never think to ask, so yes, all in all a good experience.
Unfortunately he's a terrible flirt and a few times I have to rein him in with the "nursey" (sometimes going out with him is like hanging out with )

SnoozleDoozle · 06/09/2011 17:06

I too had hospital appts today, was there for hours! Blood sugar is well under control by my diet (bloody glad it is too, its been torture!) so that is good, but I have to attend every week from now until the birth. Had a scan, and baby is still measuring too big for my dates, and doctor said that with the two things combined, my chances of a VBAC are less likely, but they will keep an eye on things and I still have time to think things through. She also read some notes on my previous birth and said that it sounded horrendous, which was strangely comforting, as I am always concerned that Drs or midwives would just think I was fussing about nothing if I tried to explain to them the full extent of my terror at going through it again.

Then finally, the anti-D. Arrrgggh! I am no lightweight when it comes to my pain threshold, but it really bloody hurt. Could feel my whole arm going heavy, and it has ached all day. Think I will pick a fight with DH when he gets home, as if he could just find out if he has negative blood too, then I wouldn't have to go through it Wink. I can blame the hormones.......

voodoomunkee · 06/09/2011 17:55

Yay 1st day went well for my dc's! Son especially seemed very happy! That in itself is a minor miracle and I think for the 1st ever I heard the word cool in relation to school!

My OH quite often comes to the MW with me, he likes to be involved and would never get such an opportunity if it wasn't for him being out of work. It's quite nice as it means I have another perspective and he remembers what she says whereas I often forget!

Snoozle, the anti d really hurt me too. Flipping painful and although I hate needles I've got a pretty high pain threshold and I was glad I didn't have to dash off anywhere after!

Right well off for a very chilled out evening getting my dd ready for her 3 day school trip!

cep · 06/09/2011 18:13

evening ladies.

voodoo so glad school went well for the dc's.

bump hopefully having the 2 weeks off for the meds will help you to have some time relaxing as well, then only a couple weeks of work.

I had my mw appt today mentioned the strep b thing again and she just told me to remind her around the 36 week mark and they'll send off a swab, which is so much better than telling me to order one from a website and pay £30 odd for it.

alicat10 · 06/09/2011 18:27

Just a little yay as need to run kids' bath - I'm not back in the office now for 14 months I reckon :) :)

smilingcl · 06/09/2011 18:33

Hello ladies,

I am knackered! Not sure how I'm sposed to be feeling but we've got loads to do at the moment and I'm pooped. 31+5 today. I feel like I'm wearing a cardboard cutout ship outfit with braces, my stomach is heading in one direction and it's forwards. Our house is a BOMB site, DP is halfway through doing the kitchen, he's doing it all himself including plumbing which is a bit stressful, I'm sanding and painting the rest of the house, one room at a time. Painting is so boring, I think I'm getting a bit untidy. My lovely parents are up this weekend to help. We've had constant visitors from DK in the mess, DP's friend, then mother, then another friend, now another one today. I can't wait to finish work, have got 5.5 weeks to go, can't believe it, time's flying so quickly. Blurghhhhh.

Think I'm going to eat some chocolate. Ooh - the girls have asked if they can arrange me a rocknroll baby shower which is sweet, felt a bit embarrassed about the idea so have told them to minimise the present aspect of it and maxmise the girly social bit. Looking forward to it!

xxx

stripeymummy · 06/09/2011 20:10

Evening everyone,

voodoo am glad that your ds's first day at school went well, it's great when you get a supportive school. Our nephew has dyslexia and his school is also vg in that aspect, and he's doing very well so far.

Good to hear that everyone's mw appointments are going well. Had my appointment with the specialists in Manchester for the final decision on the 'birth plan' Shock. So I am now booked into the maternity unit on the 31st of October to be induced, with the aim to be giving birth either the 1st or 2nd of November. It's definitely starting to get more real by the day - eek! At least it means we can be super organised (unless Modom decides to make an early break for freedom Hmm). I am thinking about putting a thread on childbirth asking about peoples experiences with induction - but if anyone has gone through it here....? I am having a pessary to soften the cervix, then my waters broken and that hormone drip (that I can never remember the name of) to get everything going. Oh and an epidural at the drip stage to minimise the strain on the ole dicky ticker. All advise welcome :)

Re nappies, we got a batch of size 1 Lollipop nappies from a mate, who found them cheap at a car boot. They are a mixture of bamboo and microfibre. When I washed them I found that the bamboo ones took over 3 days to dry, not great for rainy NW climbs Hmm, while the microfibre were only overnight - so I know what I'm getting for size 2! I think the towel rail in the bathroom will becoming in very handy. They both feel lovely and soft though, but I guess that the proof is in the pudding, so we'll see how it goes. I noticed on the website that they are doing the nappy packs for 154squids as opposed to the normal 200, www.teamlollipop.co.uk/nappy-kits-multi-buy-sets.html

I think I am definitely a member of the massive post group :o xx

chipmonkey · 06/09/2011 20:28

I agree with bumpandisaacsmum wrt buying nappies. I never got birth to potty sets of anything, I just bought one of each type that I thought looked good. Some were great, some were disappointing. The great ones I bought more of. Right now, I am looking forward to buying some pretty pink ones for dd but will have to wait till she is much bigger!

Bless her, she has really decided she want to bf and tries sooooooo hard! She has taken a couple of whole feeds by bottle but I don't know how much she gets from her bf attempts. So proud of her.Smile

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 06/09/2011 20:33

Just pops in to say to snoozle given that your blood sugars are well under control, it's likely you don't have gestational diabetes, just higher than normal levels of sugar (because you are growing a bigger baby perhaps? ie the blood sugar isn't causing the big baby, the (naturally) big baby needs more sugar??). Also, please don't forget that growth scans can be very inaccurate, so if it's a VBAC you want, stick to your guns.

And lecture over - up to you. Do what you feel is best for you and your baby - it'll generally be the right thing.

Btw, just seen new research from a long-term study of 3 million pregnancies that now suggests risk of uterine rupture is 0.07%.

kelly I'm talking to IM tomorrow. She potentially has another lady due 2 Dec, so it may not be possible to take me on, but we'll talk tomorrow. Thanks for the link.

cep · 06/09/2011 20:41

chip glad she's doing so well. Grin

goldmaple · 06/09/2011 21:12

chip glad Sylvie Rose is doing so well! She sounds like a trooper:)

caz I think the 4D scan is a great idea if you can afford it. Peace of mind is def worth it

voodoo Glad your dc had a good first day at school!

Def getting more tired here (just as work picks up, go figure) but only 4.5 weeks left till Mat leave - actually think I will miss it Shock but once bubba comes along I'm sure I'll be fine

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 06/09/2011 21:22

Ladies, quick query. Just having bouts of vertigo and diziness and feeling nauseous. Apart from a dodgy tummy, any ideas?!

lktoday5 · 07/09/2011 05:30

Morning ladies. You all sound well (apart from tiredness). Have read everything but I'm afraid for reasons that will become obvious am a bit too drug addled to comment.

I've spent since 3am thurs/night on the maternity ward at a hospital 4+ hours away from home having come up here for a family wedding (obviously missed). The care has been incredible by the mw's and after many tests, poking and prodding (and yesterday's horrible day where thru were convinced I was in labour and had many conversations about transferring me even further away as nicu here is full) it looks like (crosses fingers) things might be calming down.

I've got 2nd dose of steroids today and they think it's all been a combination of some kind of infection plus my strange gynaecology plus scar tissue from 3 previous endo surgeries not wanting to stretch.

I was supposed to still be office based until next week but given that's a 3 hour round trip to one office and 4 to another think I will just get signed off and rest up. Frankly, I need it!

For anyone else who is emergency admitted though I have to say it's been an experience I won't forget. The camaraderie of the mothers has been incredible and the midwives are just angels as far as I'm concerned. Now makes me not scared of what's coming at all ....

Love to you all. Whilst I'm very pleased livia Rose isn't joining our two little fighters just yet I'm still sending them lots and lots of (drug induced) hugs.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 07/09/2011 07:02

Oh lk I hope all is well. You sound quite calm (drugs?! :) ) and you should definately forget work! Sending lots of hugs.

I feel fine today, not sure why I felt drunk/on a ship last night!

PamSco · 07/09/2011 07:58

MrsA dehydration or an iron dip? I get very woozy if dehydrated.

lk hope you are settled resting at home - take it easy m'dear.

chip go wee girlie! I hope she gets feeding very soon.

Poppet I asked about preemie slings - they said any of the soft jersy stretchy ones would be fine. Another mum said check out Didymus (not sure of spelling).

Had a quick trip to mat ward yestrday - movements very small (but there) and bump kind of disappeared - could get into all pre-pg trousers. I wasn't too worried as could still feel him. OH made me go as the leaflet says report changes and mw told me to go in.

Trace was great, steady heart plenty of movements I couldn't feel. He'd gone back to back head down hence disappearing bump and was kicking the high anterior placenta hence me not feeling him well. Mind at rest! 2 days of kitchen done, one to go. Can't wait to get my home back!

Ladies - just noticed we are on page 92 so a day or 2 we'll need a new thread. Title ideas?

OP posts:
chipmonkey · 07/09/2011 08:40

MrsA go in and get checked out. It's probably nothing but you don't want to take any chances.

lk glad things seem to be settling down but my goodness, how annoying for you that you were so far from home!

Staceroo · 07/09/2011 09:09

lk hope you are feeling better and all has remained settled and calm. I would definitely welcome the sick note and concentrate on relaxing! Love the name Livia Rose btw.

Chip it's lovely to hear that bf is going well and baby chip is trying hard! Must mean she has a good appetite! ]

Ali v jealous that you have 14 months off already! At least 6 and possibly 8 weeks to go for me!

Collie My DH has come to all of my mw appointments, but we are lucky ours are on a sat morning as if they were midweek he would struggle to fit them into his diary. I love having him there though as he asks all the questions! I completely forget everything I mean to ask when I get there so would be no good on my own!

MrsA glad you're feeling better today. I've had similar moments myself, which I just put down to exhaustion and/or dehydration etc. They never usually last long, if they did i'd be straight on the phone to mw.

Pam what about... "babies assume launch position... 3rd trimester here we come!" or something similar!

lktoday5 · 07/09/2011 10:55

mrsa weirdly I've been very calm since they gave me steroids. I was SO worried about her little lungs etc but now I know they've done everything they can and every trace has said she is completely fine. So home is for 7 weeks or so of rest ... Looks likely I'll be home tomorrow. Whoop whoop!

pandia · 07/09/2011 11:01

MrsArch it was weird to read your post from last night because I felt EXACTLY the same yesterday. Had been feeling sick all day, then early evening started weird dizzy spells when felt like I was walking leaning over sideways - so weird. Bit better today.

lk how horrible and scary for you and especially when away from home. So pleased to hear that you have had good care - always good to hear stories about nice midwives! And hope everything stays calm for you

Pam sorry to hear about your little worrying trip to mat ward yesterday too but v glad to hear nothing serious. I suppose we are all getting to the stage where trips off to the hosp will be more frequent as due dates quickly approach. I'm 30 weeks today - feels like a big milestone.

Have a good day everyone, I'm off to antenatal yoga (cheekily take time off work for it and count it as antenatal appt...)

Truffkin · 07/09/2011 12:36

Hi everyone, am back from a lovely relaxing break full of spa treatments and lovely food. I would highly recommend the cowshed full body pregnancy massage - lush! Unfortunately after 2 pretty stressful days back at work I am off in my sick bed today Sad after a difficult night of heartburn and vomiting. I've talked to my GP this morning and have to collect a prescription for ranitidine this afternoon so hopefully that will help!

I'm 30 weeks on Friday and have got to the stage where I feel like I have underestimated how physically challenging the final stages of pregnancy can be. I've been quite blasé about how much I can do and am realising that working up to 38 weeks might not be as easy as I had originally thought - eek!

Right, enough about me I can't believe there was almost another thread birth and LK you sound like you've had great support and I'm so pleased that all seems to be well with you. Fingers crossed she decides to stay put for a while longer!

MrsA glad you are feeling better today. In my experience, some days are more tiring / sickly / dizzy-inducing than others! I have had a fairly sickly pregnancy so am probably not a good benchmark but I have had dizzy spells related to tiredness and sometimes being hungry or dehydrated. Hope you continue to feel well.

Stace good idea for new thread name. I don't have my creative head on today (having a proper duvet day!) but definitely think some reference to counting down to maternity leave / b-day should be in there. The way we chat, there will probably be another thread again before all of our babies are here Grin

In other news, I am very exciting to know that the new series of Strictly is almost upon us! I absolutely love it and although I find the first few weeks a little tedious until the rubbish ones have been voted off, I really look forward to the new series starting each year. It makes autumn and winter slightly more bearable!

Caliphora · 07/09/2011 15:24

LK Wow - hope it all stabilises for you! Defo take the sick leave, put your legs up and chill.

PamSco Yay for everything being well with the bairn - I agree that we'll all be better at going in for monitoring the closer we get!

I'm getting worse and worse at sleeping at night - often wake up feeling like I'm suffocating under the duvets/by my now horribly large boobs (not even a K-cup fits now...)

It doesn't help that DP gets up at 5 am every morning this week - stupid shift work. Although, he has been granted fixed hours after baby is here - so now the earliest he'll start is 9 am and the latest he'll finish is 7 pm - no weekends either! Awesome, considering he works in a 7am-11pm 7 days/week call centre. Good thing about being a manager, I guess.

Tjuice · 07/09/2011 15:54

hey everyone
hope you feel better soon, truffkin your spa break sounds lovely. well jealous
mrsarch - I had those exact symptoms in early pg and it was low blood pressure and low iron levels. Floradix has sorted me out, to a certain extent.

lk - scary stuff! hope all is totally calmed down. be lovely to get home and chill out. fingers crossed that it all stays that way.

smiling c - I am in awe of how you are doing on your place - tiring just thinking about it. I can handle pottering and ordering other people to do stuff but I am too busted from work to really get to grips with practical things.

well, i am in hamburg right now, last day of research here. Was knackered but am glad I came down. Last night was great - lovely Hyatt hotel, had a big deep bath then ordered room service and watched a film in my fluffy gown. nice unbroken sleep on my own without snoring husband and 3 year old. this morning had pancakes and the works at the lush breakfast buffet, followed by a little shopping stroll around the town hall where I bought some glam chanel-style quilted wellingtons and L'occitane goodies. Then just had time for a swim, steam and jacuzzi in the lovely spa before getting going to the research. What a way to maximise a work trip! Should feel guilty but totally don't.
