And we're back......

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Well my boys got bored the other day cos it was raining and they couldn;t go out, cue Barley racing 'round the flat chomping away like Pacman as he tried to bite Bramble's bottom, before launching an ambush attach from under the sofa. Cats bring so much joy and laughter to your life, don't they?

Cinnamon? What? Just on its own? Or in stuff? DH likes it in warm milk with sugar as a bedtime drink.

shonnomanom · 24/08/2011 22:01

cakes excellant shopping there well done! And good luck & enjoy your scan tommorrow x

ghost Grin Cant help but chuckle at your mum in the shop Grin

Got to hold a tiny 2 week old baby today and Bobby got a wee bit excited. Maybe just cos I 'introduced' the baby as a future schoolfriend. Dd was surprisingly ok with me holding a baby which is good.

Someone put a tub of nutela in my cupboard and Iv nearly finished it already. Shame on you nutela fairy!

ghosteditor · 24/08/2011 22:14

Great shopping cakes! And good luck avec le scan. So, are you resolved to find out boy/girl if poss?

redheadbedhead · 25/08/2011 07:32

MMMMM NUTELLA!!!!!! I can't stop eating it.... it's got milk and hazelnuts in it though right...?

can't wait to go baby shopping. want to buy it a hundred things, none of which i can afford. keep having dreams that my house is much bigger and all fully decorated...think the nesting urge is kicking in....and the urge to win the lottery.

i only have one cat and so far I haven't seen her humping/being humped... I'm not allowed two Angry However this is on the proviso that we also don't get 2 dogs. I don't even want one dog, but apparently it's a condition of my marriage... Hmm

ghost your post about the rude bump lady made me think - anyone else started getting people touching your bump? mine's starting sticking out properly in last 2 weeks and so far 4 people have touched it without asking. so weird!!!

addictediam · 25/08/2011 07:45

If some one touches your bump, touch theirs back! It stops them doing it again, if they ask what your doing just say really innocently, I thought thats what we did now, you touch my bump so I touch yours? Grin

I stop everyone with a double and quiz them, I haven't come accross anyone that's minded and you get honest feed back not a selling pitch. Also lots of people have stopped me and asked about my quinny.

My 16wk appointment went well, I heard the hb and found out the strong 'kicks' I've been feeling really are kicks! My mw also thinks I'm further along than what my dating scan said.

Oooo now I really want a cinnamon bun!

miamama09 · 25/08/2011 07:57

well heard bambino's heartbeat yesterday before flying for wedding. all good so phewwwwweeee!
on the other hand DD was up at 5.30am this morning and we have a full day of hair, wedding, photos... i don't know when we'll fit in a sleep! I hope she is better behaved in the ceremony than she was in the rehearsal! (in the pulpit and everywhere!)
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz I need a coffee

redheadbedhead · 25/08/2011 08:10

Grin @ addicted - don't think I'm brave enough to do that yet! Think I'll build up to it by maybe wriggling away first...

what quinny have you got? I'm trying to find a good pram/buggy that faces both ways but isn't too bulky and annoying.

and congrats to both of you on the heartbeats Smile

good luck with the wedding miama - I had to play at my cousins wedding on Sunday and it was the first time I've got nervous performing in a long time - think the Piglet had a massive dose of adrenalin! Wonder if it enjoyed it?

redheadbedhead · 25/08/2011 08:11

ps don't know about cinnamon, but I've got a strong lavender cupcake craving this week....think I might bake a few rounds tomorrow.... anyone in N London fancy one? Wink

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 25/08/2011 09:06

redhead - hell to the yes! Never tried one, but cake is cake and I love lavender, so it's all good :-)

Dh and I fell out with one of his 'friends' who got very nasty when they were away on a course together and then vanished off the face of the earth for 2 months. Saw him at a posh 'do' recently and he gave me a slobbery kiss goodbye and put his hand on my bump - I honestly felt as if I'd been groped. If I'd been less shocked I would have walloped him. I don;t think DH understand quite how affronted I am or he would have done it for me!

fishandlilacs · 25/08/2011 09:09

Anything cinnamon flavoured. I draw the line at eating it in dry powdered form out of the spice rack though. However if I had a cinnamon stick or two i'd probably chew it, right now.

...wipes drool....

addictediam · 25/08/2011 09:09

Redhead I have a quinny speedi, I don't think it faces both ways (I bought it second hand so was never really shown how to use it!) It's also very big and bulky, but i love it. It's a dream to push and can easily go off road.

Lavender cupcakes? I've never heard of thoes. (and I dare to call myself a cake decorator and cup cake maker! Blush) how do you make the lavender flavour?

ghosteditor · 25/08/2011 09:35

Lavender cupcakes? voila!

I haven't made them but they look yummy. I have made some green tea cupcakes though, and they were also good. I know we're not supposed to like the Hummingbird Bakery around here but I have the cookbook and it's so much fun. Plus, red velvet cupcakes - yum yum yum, I'd sell my unborn child soul for one right now.

Sorry, somehow these threads always come around to baking cakes!

ghosteditor · 25/08/2011 09:37

I haven't been bump-groped yet, but I think I put off a very strong 'touch me and die' vibe, so I'm hoping it will overcome the fascination with the bump. Maybe I should get a t-shirt that says 'I know kung-fu'? I am not 100% certain I could hold back from walloping (such a fun word!) someone who tried to touch me without permission!

redheadbedhead · 25/08/2011 09:39

oh my word addicted you have a treat coming up. You soak dried lavender buds in milk overnight, then strain it and use it in the recipe the next day. IT.IS.DELICIOUS. And very easy.

I had a friend make them for my wedding and that was it, I was addicted. It's a Hummingbird Bakery recipe, will post it on here later if anyone wants it, or PM you.

Two things to watch out for tho- I can only find Lavender in Waitrose, so it helps to have one nearby, or stock up whenever you pass one (you need quite a lot), and also the lavender absorbs milk so I find you have to do a bit extra, or strain the buds with a fork to get the most milk out possible.

Fryn · 25/08/2011 10:41

Enough talk of cakes! Although redhead - I'm N(E) London - send one over! I'd offer you the lavendar from my garden, but on closer inspection I seem to have managed to kill it. Oh well, next year...

cakes - good work on the shopping and for surviving the passport office. That's always a challenge. I had to take DD's p/p back when they put that she'd been born in Hacknoy. Where??
Hope the scan goes well too!

ghost - yeah - get high kicking when someone tries for the grope! I reckon you could make the local news with that.

fish - you're making me want to run to Ikea and get a bag of cinnamon rolls. The bag of nuts in my desk drawer just won't cut it now.

addicted - wow, real kicks at 16 weeks does seem early. Maybe you'll have a new year bundle instead! And let me know what your double quizzing throws up. All I've managed is two conflicting opinions on Phil & Teds (one love, one loathe, both united on how rubbish the rain cover is).

miamama enjoy the wedding! Hope DD behaves - and if not, you'll have some good tales to tell.

addictediam · 25/08/2011 10:52

The icandy is great aparantly, folds up really small and is easy to push.
The out and about nipper is really good too but is fustrating moving sleeping babies (from car to buggy) and doesn't forward face so can leave you parinoid.

My personal favorites are the tfk twinner twist duo (although havent yet had a play) and the bugaboo donkey, expensive but so easy. Need to play more with them both tho!

addictediam · 25/08/2011 10:58

Phil and teds I've had conflicting views on too but from taking dd and trying her out in it she HATED it. although she would be the older baby i tried her in the smaller baby space (to get a childs perspective!) She couldn't see, screamed blue murder whilst walking aroundvthe shop and squirmed the whole time to get out and see what was goung on. I found it quite difficult to manover and even worse to try and walk with out kicking baby! Personally it wouldn't work for us.

addictediam · 25/08/2011 11:01

The icandy you also have to take all seats and attachments of to fold, its a pain but easy enough.

addictediam · 25/08/2011 11:14

I've also seen a beep beep one that I really like, but haven't had a chance to play, I can only find it on line or in Ireland! But its around £500 so amazing value if its any good.

Fryn · 25/08/2011 12:30

oo - good tips. Thank you! I've loved my Bug. Bee, so a Donkey would be no hardship, but the price! (breaks out in mummy guilt sweat). If I'm honest, I probably won't really need a double - DD will be 2 + 8 months by then, so a buggy board will probably suffice. I just dread the moment when she gets tired and wants to sit down, which will inevitably be miles from home/a bench.

addictediam · 25/08/2011 12:38

Which is why the donkey would be perfect, goes from double to single. But the price is a sticking point, I really want it and dh has said we can streach to it, but I just feel so guilty and think about the clothes, bibs, blankets, maternity clothes etc I could be spending the money on instead!

But then the icandy (both peach and pear) is also a single, just take off the adapters and its the icandy apple.

Nanny01 · 25/08/2011 15:46

Hi Every one
I am trying to keep my mind of pushchairs as I know I really love them.
Really felt my little boy move the last 2 days and really feel more connected to him now. Bought another set of babygrows today.

Just wanted to warn every one re the icandy, I had one the apple and it was so heavy. I am determined not to make the same mistake again. I am going to remind my self that it firstly needs to be practical , light weight and looks good should be last not first. I have made this mistake 4 times; one would think I would learn before now surely.

Oeisha · 25/08/2011 16:17

Afternoon all. Busy day at work so am off for a nap any min now.

Re: buggies. I've tried the iCandy Peach (it's what I'm going for). I found it very light to use with both pram and buggie. It is exceedingly easy to fold away. Can't say I tried it 'doubled up' and thus the 'Peach blossom' but it can... Despite MIL and Mum both wanting me to have twins, there is only one in there...

Re: cupcake lovers. If you're off to Waitrose for your lavendar...they should have 'Lemon and Lavendar' cupcakes on the Patisserie. I know them well.

...will be more alter later. TTFN xxx

fishandlilacs · 25/08/2011 16:31

Sorry, really not sold on the lavender cupcakes. I really really dont like lavender in puddings of any sort. I love the plant, I love the smell, i love the colour and I have really really tried to like it. In the past had lavender cakes, lavender creme patissiere, lavender ice cream, lavender creme brulee but sadly it's not a taste for me.

However geranium cakes are a different matter. Make a normal sponge cake but place a few geranium leaves in the bottom of the tin before you bake them. In the baking process the leaves infuse the cake mix with the delicious flavour. lemon scented geranium leaves make a flippin gorgeous additon to lemon drizzle cake.

fishandlilacs · 25/08/2011 16:34

recipe very similar to the one I use here

But i stick traditonal lemon drizzle infused with leaves over mine
