Poor dumble :( Feet up this evening and take it easy. Think of all those lovely babydumble growing hormones whizzing about.

MeconiumHappens · 04/09/2011 18:46

Sipping things like sprite through a straw can help a bit too dumble with the sickiness.

LoveInAColdClimate · 04/09/2011 18:51

www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/nutrition/foodsafety/sushiexpert/ - sushi is fine as long as the fish has been frozen or smoked. Indulge! I've had loads!

mememummy · 05/09/2011 08:25

Omg my Bessie mate who has two children has just found out she is 8 months pregnant lol due next month she is a size 12... Bitch her past 2 she found out like this aswel

pommedechocolat · 05/09/2011 08:59

omg! Really mememummy? That's incredible. I can't imagine not knowing you're pregnant. Although shorter pregnancy would be bliss I can't imagine a one month pregnancy!!

I am 14 weeks now and I have really low blood pressure which is making me feel rubbish (90/40 last time they did it). With dd I felt horrible until 12 weeks and then brilliant. With this one haven't felt quite so acutely rubbish, just really under the weather but no signs of it lifting yet. DH seems to getting frustrated that I don't feel better as well. Bored now - bring on the good bit.

Biscuitsandtea · 05/09/2011 09:27

Oh my goodness Meme - that's mad!! You have to explain! Were they even ttc? How did she eventually find out? I imagine it is less of a surprise when you find this for the 3rd time, but was she 8 months on hher first too? Can you imagine not having all that time to prepare!!! Tell me more..... I am guessing she must have some crazy cycles to be 8 months with no AF and not find that unusual?

Pomme sorry you\re still feeling a bit under. i remember thinking with DS that I would suddenly feel 'blooming' come the second trimester but I think it probably happened gradually for me - overall I probably was better but I can remember tapping my feet waiting for it to happen!

My tummy feels tight today. Like i am bending over backwards (except I'm not - I'm just stood normally). I'm having to avoid people that I don't want to tell until after the scan in case they guess! I am about 11 weeks now (11 weeks yesterday if you go by my 8 week scan dates, or 8 weeks come Wednesday by LMP dates). Scan is next Friday (11 sleeps....) - seems like I've been waiting for it FOREVER! Am bored now, although I would rather be bored as it means nothing bad is happening (that I can tell). Still nervous about finding a problem at the scan but am trying to stay positive.

MeconiumHappens · 05/09/2011 10:30

I cant help but think denial must come into play with a lot of people who 'dont know' they are pregnant. A size 12 person can't get to 8 months without needing to buy bigger clothes, pee more or feel movements, particularly if you have been pregnant before and you know what movements feel like. I don't buy it. Maybe if you were 30 stone...
pomme make sure you are drinking loads to help push bp up a little.
biscuits was that a type or does your lmp put you three weeks out from your scan date? Your scan will be great, brooking no arguement.

Biscuitsandtea · 05/09/2011 10:50

Oh yeah - typo Blush - should be 11 weeks on Wednesday by LMP dates.

Got my 8's and 11's confused!

Yeah good point about the movements and stuff Meconium - I'd not thought of that.

Come on Meme I'm dying to know how your friend managed that. I mean where did she put either the baby, or all her internal organs if she was still a size 12?

Mind you, Sonia in Eastenders didn't know until she was actually having the baby - so it must be possible....

DenyEverything · 05/09/2011 11:00

meme that is crazy! Agree she must have had some inkling. One of our receptionists a few years ago (who was very overweight) had some abdo pains in the bath one night and 10minutes later had delivered a baby and the placenta on her bed. No antenatal care whatsoever, thankfully all fine. She was 42 so thought lack of periods was just early menopause.

pomme sorry you're feeling rough. I remember feeling better almost overnight at 9.5 weeks last time so was brooking no argument with that happening again. Unfortunately I'm now 10+3 and feel absolutely as sick and tired as ever. Still, am sure we'll get there soon, we have to have some respite before the heartburn and SPD starts Wink

poor too, agree fizzy drinks are the way forward with nausea. I have mastered the art of non-alcoholic cocktails at the moment and have gone ever more elaborate with my fizzy drink choice. Favourite at the moment is schloer white grape and cranberry with a little orange juice, lots of ice and soda.

biscuits only 11 sleeps! 10 for me and I agree, can't come soon enough!

just rang the antenatal clinic for the umpteenth time and through gritted teeth told them my midwife told me to contact them. Thankfully they have finally booked me in for two weeks on thursday when I'll be nearly 13 weeks. lovely.

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 05/09/2011 11:22

Wow, Meme! I just can't wrap my head around that - and particularly not around Deny's friend who just suddenly had a baby! No inkling she was pregnant, maybe...maybe...but no labour pains either? God, imagine the shock to just pop out a baby with no warning whatsoever! I also don't understand where the baby bump is if your friend is still a size 12. Confused It would be really nice to skip through all the worrying in early pregnancy - but would then worry that hadn't taken folic acid or stopped drinking! Can't win.

Thanks for the hair-stroking and ginger biscuits, Meconium. I'm a bit better today - am going to have some toast and lemon curd and hope it helps. Hunger seems to make me feel sick, which means I don't want to eat, but usually eating makes the sickiness go away.

The MW's secretary called this morning and said she had arranged a new booking scan for me...2 days earlier than the first one! I pointed out gently that it had had to be moved because I was only 9+4 today and would therefore be only 10+4 at the new date. She has since phoned back with a new appt on the 28th, when I will be 12+6. Oh well.

Pomme, hope you feel better soon!

Biscuits, good luck at the scan!

HidingInTheUndergrowth · 05/09/2011 12:50

Hello! Had my scan this morning and the little one is clearly not a morning person as he didn't want to move into the right position for the nuchal scan so i was sent away and ordered to have coffee and chocolate and come back after a bit. Anyway, everything looked perfect and my dates have been moved forward a bit so I am now due on the 13 march. :o

One thing ladies, they mucked up the appointments and didnt have my name on their list. Thankfully I had my letter with me so they had to fit me in but they said if I hadn't of had it they would have refused to scan me today Shock so moral of the story is make sure you take your appointment confirmation letter with you when you go for your scan!

MemeI also am amazed that she managed until 8 months! Maybe if she was larger and it was her first but surely she must have some idea of what being pregnant feels like by the third time. Wow...I am a bit jealous though to be fair :o

LoveInAColdClimate · 05/09/2011 12:53

That's fab news, Hiding!

I shove all my letters into my pregnancy notes folder so have them with me for appointments, if that helps anyone. Lucky you had it!

DenyEverything · 05/09/2011 13:17

great news hiding - what a relief and also nice to be told to drink coffee and eat chocolate (I wish someone would give me orders to do that!)

also good advice about taking letter with you. A good way to avoid the "computer says no" attitude isn't it?

Biscuitsandtea · 05/09/2011 13:56

Great news Hiding - glad the scan was good. Also good on for you for putting them straight re the appointment - a fine example of brooking no argument :)

I'm worried now - I don't even have a scan confirmation letter! My m/w phoned up to make the appointment while I was at my booking in appointment and wrote the appointment on the back of my pg notes, and when I asked if I get confirmation or anything from the hospital she said that I wouldn't - just to turn up.

Eeek!!!

HidingInTheUndergrowth · 05/09/2011 14:08

I'm sure you will be fine biscuit. I have to confess my plan b was going to be to burst into tears in reception and refuse to leave until they had scanned me if they had tried to send me home. :o

OP posts:
Biscuitsandtea · 05/09/2011 14:11

I think I might just call the antenatal department at the hospital and just double check I don't need a letter - I had DS at a different hospital so can just pretend I forgot to ask the M/W as it is all done differently at this hospital.

scarletfingernail · 05/09/2011 14:15

Fantastic news Hiding

Biscuits my scan appointment was booked exactly the same way as yours and I have no letter either. If they refuse to scan me I shall have to stage a sit in. "I shall not be moved"

Failing that? Tears.

Biscuitsandtea · 05/09/2011 14:22

I've just dug out my pregnancy notes and phoned the hospital and the receptionist said that they don't send out letters for that.

I have got a blood specimen envelope thing pre-completed in my notes on the ultrasound scan page for the NT blood thing? Is that right? Do they take bloods at the dating scan for the NT thing? They also do a extra measurement don't they?

Can I ask if you ladies have had the extra NT thing done? I'm not sure whether to or not. They didn't offer it when we had DS and DH is not keen on it this time. I think he doesn't want to make it 'more likely' that we'll have poor odds and thus a decision to make. But I don't now. I have no idea what we'd do if we came back as high risk? If we wouldn't do anything then maybe he's right not to want it done, but I'm not sure I know enough about it.

Any knowledge or thoughts gratefully received......

LoveInAColdClimate · 05/09/2011 14:27

What's the extra NT thing!? We had bloods and the back of the neck and nasal bone measurements... should something else have been done? Thanks!

Biscuitsandtea · 05/09/2011 14:35

No I think the back of the neck is the NT thing? Isn't that when they measure the nuchal fold?

It's just that they never offered that thing at all when I was pg with DS (or maybe they did in some places but not our hospital). That time, the m/w took bloods and sent them off and you just got a score back.

Biscuitsandtea · 05/09/2011 14:36

ALso Love how do you get your results back for the downs screening (ie the bloods and the measurement)? Do they tell you there and then or write later?

I wish I was more cleverererererer :(

LoveInAColdClimate · 05/09/2011 14:39

Here they write to you with results (or call if it's bad news) but the midwife did say the measurements on scan looked fine. You are very clever!

Biscuitsandtea · 05/09/2011 14:45

Just re-read my earlier post where I wrote They also do a extra measurement don't they?.

I would like to just point out that this was a typo - obviously should have been an extra measurement and I would kindly request that you don't take that as evidence of my lack of cleverness.

Biscuitsandtea · 05/09/2011 15:11

Aside from the NT stuff (which I am still interested in any other thoughts), I am feeling unreasonably cross this afternoon.

Unreasonably so because it's ridiculous. I watched Sex and the City at lunchtime - I'm half way through season 3 and Carrie is going out with Aidan, but then Big rocks up when she is at a hotel working and she sleeps with him. I feel very very cross with her about this.

I do realise that I may be categorically mental for actually feeling cross with a TV programme. I just think Big is an Arse! Makes me cross!

Please resume normal business.

scarletfingernail · 05/09/2011 15:15

Hey Biscuits

The measurement from the back of the neck along with your blood test results (which they take on the same day as the scan) are analysed together. You then get a letter through the post saying whether your baby is low risk or high risk of Downs. If it's high risk presumably you then decide whether to have further tests or not.

Not all areas offer the Nuchal Fold screening. There are many areas where it is not offered as standard but people still choose to have it done privately. If it is offered as standard in your area (as it is mine) you can still refuse to have it done if you'd rather not. I did have it with DS (low risk) and I will also have it this time. As for what happens if it comes back as high we'll cross that bridge if and when, but for us we'd like to know as much as possible.
