Oh goodness yes there was I think? Was it Charlotte's baby shower?

LoveInAColdClimate · 09/08/2011 18:11

Or was it the one where Carrie's shoes got stolen?

Biscuitsandtea · 09/08/2011 18:13

ooh, now you're testing me. I'm re watching the whole 6 series at the moment (when DH is out - he can't be bribed to sit through more than 5 minutes despite me pointing out that this is just the same as making me watch 'Today at the Test' Hmm)

LoveInAColdClimate · 09/08/2011 18:22

Hmm, actually I think Charlotte bought the nappy cake, so presumably it wasn't hers, and I don't think Charlotte went to the one with the stolen shoes (didn't Carrie go with Stanford, who took some kind of Peter Rabbit gift?) - don't remember another baby shower though, but there must have been one #knowstoomuchaboutSATC

Biscuitsandtea · 09/08/2011 18:33

Oooh ooh I know another one!! There was one in an early series where they went to an old 'associate' who lived in the 'burbs but used to be wild and strip in nightclubs (for fun) and stuff. And while they were there she said the name of her baby to be and she had stolen Charlotte's baby name (knows WAY too much about SATC, but I have only watched it in the past few weeks Blush Mind you I HAD forgotten about the nappy cake......)

Biscuitsandtea · 09/08/2011 18:33

(The start of that post was accompanied by a girly swat bouncing up and down in my seat with my hand raised - 'pick me Miss, pick meeeeeeeeeee)

Biscuitsandtea · 09/08/2011 18:36

I'm sorry I have to tell you ladies this. Just got interrupted from that MNing by a load of banging noises coming from the kitchen. Ran in to find DS who is completely naked at the moment (trying a bit of potty time but an accident on the rest of his clithes (how Hmm) = completely naked) moving all the breakfast bar stools back under the breakfast bar (I'd moved them earlier to mop). Just the oddest sight with a small naked person moving stools much taller than him..... And he'd managed to get all 4 from the living room into the kitchen - what a trooper :)

Purplebuns · 09/08/2011 18:38

Hello everyone long time now see! Are we all ok? Yes? Excellent!
How lovely that we are all still here and getting fatter by the second!

Now then Carrie's shoes get stolen at a weird married couples dinner party (new cream carpets or some such so shoes off policy) and they refuse to pay, Carrie writes her a note and dissolves the friendship, if I remember correctly.

I would quite like a nappy cake, we are reusables fans so it would be a very nice nappy cake indeed!

I think we can start ticking off who has had a booking in appointment as I had mine on Sunday. Sorry to hear about those of you still waiting on a 12 week scan appointment, I had mine within a week!

Does anyone have any ideas on what sort of birth you would like?

LoveInAColdClimate · 09/08/2011 18:40

Aw re your DS, Biscuits!

I remember that one now, she turned up back in the city and started stripping at a party 8 months pregnant then realised she'd changed and didn't want to do that. SATC nappy cake mystery solved!

Biscuitsandtea · 09/08/2011 19:12

Wowsers we know our SATC ladies! Especially Purple.

Purplebuns · 09/08/2011 19:47

BiscuitsLovely DH bought me the complete set for Valentines day, when I was pregnant with pfb and I watched the whole thing in order, and I catch the occasional episode on comedy central. Carrie can be soo wet!

LoveInAColdClimate · 09/08/2011 20:34

Noooooo, the shoe stealing was at a baby shower where the couple already had slightly older, crawling twins so everyone had to take their shoes off so as not to tread dirt into the carpet the babies were crawling over, wasn't it? But could be wrong!

Birthwise, Purple, thinking midwife lead unit as too scared for a home birth! How about everyone else?

LoveInAColdClimate · 09/08/2011 20:43

www.tbs.com/stories/story/0,,15581,00.html - I am so sad!

Biscuitsandtea · 09/08/2011 20:43

Birth: 100% at the hospital maternity unit. After last time having a third degree tear and needing an hour of surgery to stitch me up, and ds being dragged out with forceps it is gonna be in the hospital for sure Confused.

Oh and DH says I left half my insides on the delivery room floor when they wheeled me off to surgery so I'm not having that mess in my house!

Just out of interest, what is a midwife led unit? Is that different to the normal maternity bit at the hospital? I guess I'll get my choices from the m/w when I go next week?

LoveInAColdClimate · 09/08/2011 20:48

Where I am, Biscuits, the Women's Hospital has a maternity hospital bit for more complicated deliveries and a midwife-led centre for births that are expected to be straightforward (ie not high risk and no reason to expect problems). The midwife led bit has birthing pools and stuff, not sure about the other bit. If you need to transfer from one to the other, it's just down the corridor! Not sure if this is standard, though?

Purplebuns · 09/08/2011 20:58

Well done, Love I wonder what I am thinking of? Maybe the same thing but I thought of it as a dinner partyHmm can only mean one thing.. Time to dig out my box set!

Biscuits you poor Buggar!
I found my birth traumatic and I have requested my labour notes for a debrief, so I can decide from there my ideal birth. There will be tears as I find it hard to talk about my labour. The only ok bit was the end where I didn't need stitches, a good thing as I wouldn't be having dc2 at all otherwise.

Perineal massage was a life saver, and is what stopped me from tearing I am sure of it! Everyone should do it.

HidingInTheUndergrowth · 09/08/2011 21:02

I am awed by the SATC knowledge! :o

I am planning on aiming for a homebirth. I only live 5 mins from the hospital so if there are any signs of problems or I just change my mind I can zoom in pretty easily. I don't think I would be brave enough if I lived any further away. Also when I spoke to my midwife about it yesterday she seemed really supportive. Both me and DP have some of the most boring medical records in the world so are very low risk so far.

Love there is a similar arrangement at my local hospital. I think they have a pretty good reputation so I am not totally against going there if things don't work out with the homebirth idea.

Biscuitsandtea · 09/08/2011 21:17

Ah yes purple I'd heard of that massage thing but frankly couldn't bring myself to do it!! Blush

I like the sound of these nice m/w led units. Hope we have something like that here.

On paper I was low risk but waters broke and DS came at 36+6 so was technically premature. That meant that we had to follow prem rules in hospital ie being monitored etc continuously Sad had read and heard all about these different labour positions etc but oooooohhhh nooooooooo not for me Sad.

Am so much more scared about labour this time in case it's anything like last time. DS never even crowned (even that word makes my eyes water and I never had to do it) so don't feel I can even necessarily 'do' labour - that might seem a bit odd Confused but I don't feel like I 'finished' the job Sad

To be honest I'd not thought much about it until DH said (after we got our BFP) that he thought I was very brave to be prepared to do it again! I notice he waited until I was pg before he reminded me of that one! Shock

Biscuitsandtea · 09/08/2011 21:20

Just re read my post and don't want to scaremonger those wanting a home birth Blush. Don't be put off by my rubbishness! Smile

DenyEverything · 10/08/2011 07:33

love am also impressed with your SATC knowledge. I did get through a fair bit of the boxed set while breastfeeding (one hand on the remote, the other shovelling cake in my gob) and hope to get back to it this time around.

biscuits I share your fear about labour after a 40hour marathon ending in emergency CS. Please don't shoot me down in flames ladies but I'm doing the elective section thing this time around. I'm from a medical background so I find beeping machines strangely reassuring and after my student days, we only ever got to attend the deliveries when things went wrong. That said, I did try the Hypnobirthing method and it definitely helped my contractions so would recommend the book to anyone.

purps would second your thoughts on perineal massage. Meant to help and definitely can't do any harm (though may look a bit weird if you keep your curtains open whilst performing it)

Am in work on early shift today. Alarm didn't go off but I was awake anyway worrying about being late. Let me tell you, eating a bowl of cheerios in 25 seconds flat does nothing for your nausea

Biscuitsandtea · 10/08/2011 09:15

Gosh Deny your labour sounds terrible! If I were you I would definitely be doing an elective c-section too. Most people I know who've had an emergency one the first time had one the second time too. I know there is this whole thing about people wanting to have a vaginal birth after CS and I have to say it totally passes me by Blush. And I'll tell you another thing, I was praying to hear the word 'caesarian' when I was pushing and nothing was happening whatsoever. 2 hours of pushing (maybe? can't remember how long all the bits took - it seemed like forever) making no progress and I would have gladly had a section. I was a bit disappointed when they said forceps! And then they did the first pull and nothing and I was thinking 'oh god, this is going to take forever, just get this baby out!!!' and then they pulled again and I was really surprised when they plopped a baby on my tummy :)

I don't think my labour itself was that bad but the afterwards was pretty nasty with the damage done :(

Hope you've recovered from your super speed cheerios this morning Deny - I'm just about to make some porridge I think for breakfast. Can't be bothered to do anything today

DenyEverything · 10/08/2011 09:29

ta biscuits, feel like I'm copping out a bit Blush

for the other ladies, please note all of my friends had wonderful birth experiences and of course its all worth it in the end. I had good bits to my labour, liked the gas and air a lot - remember thinking it was like being at a student party, bouncing on a giant ball with my iPod speakers playing stuff I liked and some lovely ambient lighting!

Have already eaten my lunch. Its 9.30. There's only a co-op pharmacy near here to buy anything else to eat. May have to start snacking on Complan or Berocca at this rate Smile

Biscuitsandtea · 10/08/2011 09:35

Oh yes I second that - I know way more people with nice birth stories. And it must all be worth it or we wouldn't be here again! It is all so worth it in the end

pommedechocolat · 10/08/2011 10:22

I had a bad birth with dd - induction at 38 weeks due to my Hughes syndrome. I was pushing for four hours and noone realised dd was back to back until half way through that!

Eventually ventouse and forceps to pull her out. An epidural a couple of hours before pushing commenced the best decision of my life!!

Ah what fun to do it all again!

First timers don't be too scared it all fades to nothing when you hold your baby!

DenyEverything · 10/08/2011 10:45

too true pomme. A part of me would like to try and do it naturally and have the excitement and exhilaration that goes with that.

Unfortunately the other part is a complete wuss Smile

How is everyone today? I'm still hungry and bored at work, trying to decide what to eat next to combat the nausea.

Had a busy day yesterday (my day off with DS). Took my dog for a walk with DS in backpack. Poor little thing was virtually attacked by an "over-friendly" staffie called Elvis. DS started screaming and I had to pull said staffie away from my tiny whippet whilst negotiating a screaming toddler on my back. Needless to say I was knackered by the afternoon. Ah, what a lovely relaxing way to spend your day off.
