Will check in for proper catch up but just thought I'd get that in now!

bumpandisaacsmum · 05/07/2011 22:17

All this talk of contraception is making me think...main reason I'm hear was due to hormonal side effects of the pill (started getting really bad after 2yrs) so DP & I agreed to come off and if I got pregnant then so be it; not even a period between coming of and getting pregnant!!! Really not sure what to do post baby...not keen on condoms (tend to send me into school girls giggles which isn't surprising with the way we were introduced to them at school!!) Really don't want something that is long term or hormonal though...think I may need to talk to someone re: options or ban DP from sex until we want another which'll be minimum 2.5yrs due to me starting 2yr MW course next sept!!

juststarting · 05/07/2011 22:19

Good grief, what a lot of posts today! I cant possibly process them all. But Cali, hope you are feeling better. You've alarmed me somewhat cause the midwife said she thought I may have a UTI yesterday but then I screwed up doing a urine sample for the hospital thismorning so havent got round to that and now am all "oh lord, its going to get serious!" But it sounds like its being dealt with.
Never, I hope things improve for you. I dont know your situation, obviously, but I think sometimes this process must be pretty hard on men too, and some times that might lead to some fairly shitty behaviour. Not that I am excusing it, just saaying that there are things for men to come to terms with too. That they should pull themselves together and get on with coming to terms with it and then be infinitely supportive goes without saying.
Anyway, my man is waiting for the computer, so I must pass up the opportunity to fill you all in on my thrilling day, including such highlights as the discussion about whether I should be signed off work due to anxiety, closely followed by the discussion of how well i am doing at work, the sighting of this thing that looked half bee half humming bird and the twenty minutes I spent pretending to examine the humous whilst trying to cool down in the fridge section of Sainsburys.

goldmaple · 05/07/2011 22:40

cali love that. my DH is also very proud

moosey my DH got 'now you know your little swimmers work':) so cute how proud they get. Now that I'm showing I think DH likes it because he did it (and it lets everyone know that we have sex Blush - blush is for having immature DH- but I'm glad he likes it).

PamSco · 05/07/2011 22:49

Hey Moosey gallbladder is still behaving ok. I have a niggle in my side most days but no pain so I am ignoring the niggle. Still trying to keep fat down to a minimum in my diet. Still worried that every bite I eat might trigger the hell. Haven't heard from MRI scan yet maybe hear end of week. PMA is carrying me through (and apple juice).

kate I LOVE the rainbow babies site - thanks for sharing. I am so going to colour co-ordinate Babs and me.

My lovely lovely man is happy using condoms which suits me as I react awfully to both kinds of pills (progesterone & standard) and I won't bore you with what happened after I took the progesterone injection.

Oh ok I will - after the first injection I bled for 5 mths solid. When I went back to the quacks they said it was common and if I got it again my body would be used to it and the bleed would stop. Dope here took that crap and got injected. By the end of that 6 mths I'd bled permenantly, grown a beard and put 4 stone in weight. Quacks response - oh you must have had a change of life-style. Really? Really? The only change in my life-style was that I was a hormonal fat wreck who couldn't get a man to save my life due to the 12 mth PMT I had been suffering.

This is just one reason I dislike (some of) the medical profession.

CazandBelle · 05/07/2011 22:56

Wow pam that is a horrible reaction to the injection. I didn't react very well to the implant (put on stone and half in 4 months, lost all interest in sex and had the biggest mood swings ever from over the top excited to a sobbing mess over nothing - it came out after the 4 months and I went back on the pill and went back to normal and went on a diet!) but have always been ok on the microgynon pill. Not sure what we'll do after Xander is born. The pill can affect feeding can't it? (I've not dreamt that have I?), so we'll have to think of something else...

juststarting · 05/07/2011 23:05

We very successfully used exhaustion, stress and a lusting to be extra quiet after bedtime as completely effective, safe contraception for quite some time after my son was born, even after my boobs became touchable and my groin area ceased to be a no go zone again. About the only thing our stock of condoms were good for was, as someone else has said, being waved around by a jubilant infant clearly going "look, so shiney!"

Caliphora · 05/07/2011 23:23

LOVING Rainbowbaby! Custom printed baby grows ftw!

I had perfectly normal, clockwork ovulation, PMT and periods until I went on the progesterone pill for 3 months about 10 years ago. Constant bleeds during those three months, then I came off it, and havoc had been wreaked on my system. Weight gain, "moustache", anovulation - I think I've had a total of about 15 periods since then. I was diagnosed with PCOS after 5 years.

I'm never touching anything hormonal with a barge pole again. Ever.

I tried having a coil fitted when I was 18 - the gynaecologist said my cervix cramped and ripped out of the little clamp that held it and I bled so much my poor boyfriend who was with me turned pale and had to lie down.

bumpandisaacsmum · 06/07/2011 07:05

caz the standard pill e.g. Mycrogynon, affects feeding & shouldn't be used but the "mini pill" is safe to use whilst feeding!!

CazandBelle · 06/07/2011 07:19

ooo thanks bump I'll have to look into that then.

Getting up early is getting harder and harder! Rubbish sleep at the moment. I went to bed at 11.30 (which was a bit late for a start I know!) and between then at 6am I've got up 3 times to pee! Roll on the start of the summer holidays and sleeping in until whenever I like! 2 and a half weeks!!!

Anyone else going to the toilet constantly yet?

PamSco · 06/07/2011 07:43

I'm going the loo more but then i'm drinking lots and lots of water so it makes sense.

I've started to listen to my rainbow relaxation cd for hypnobirthing and my sleep is deeper than the grave.

Missyraines · 06/07/2011 07:48

Sorry, had my Mum here so couldn't post.
Scan went really well and all super quick. Got tested for MRSA as soon as I got to the gyne unit then called in within ten minutes. I was expecting at least a half hour wait. Got onto the bed and was over in ten mins. Could have looked at junior all day. Still team yellow and no clues either. Baby well behaved and lying well. Makes it so much more real doesn't it.

Good luck MrsA for yours.

I'm lucky and get a 28 week scan because of my cyst history. As for the cot you girls are right. It is expensive. Will use our money on a good pushchair/travel system.

Yesterday my husband, who is self employed, joined Costco. We went to look around to compare items and I got 2x200ml of bio oil for £19.99 and a pregnacy pillow for £10. Wipes and stuff all work out cheaper too (buying in bulk) so we'll start to stock up on those soon. If any of you know anyone with a card, get begging to go. Not everything was cheaper but lots is. I'm in the Surrey area so can help out anyone here if need (or don't mind posting things like Bio oil if you want) It's almost half price.

Off to see take that tonight. DON'T JUDGE ME!!!!!!!!!

Ziggimajiggi · 06/07/2011 08:06

Hi di hi!

Pam I'm doind the natal hypnotherapy cd thing - I have to agree that sleep like the dead afterwards. A-ma-zing.

TCOYF DH and I used this to get pregnant and it worked first time! Knowledge is power - they really do need to teach this somewhere!!

Good luck on your scans today ladies, fingers crossed everything is perfect :)

PMA today - I have a wee swim after work with DH. He hates it, but I properly love it. Can't wait.

Have a great day

Hi all! Catching up at work again! Lovely to hear all the good scan news still coming in. Good luck to those who also have them this week.
Cali sorry you?ve had a crap time?..hope you feel a bit better today? And ?happy birthday?!
Notjust, cannot believe they still went ahead and recommended the same shot after last times reaction?..honestly, makes you doubt the sanity of the people who are supposed to be the ?experts? sometimes!!!
Did anyone watch the sextuplets prog last night. I?ve been on a bit of baby tv overload, what with that and baby hospital (floods of tears, I don?t know why I watched!) and babies behind bars (errrr?..less said the better I think about some of the women in there!) Shock
Don?t know who first mentioned the pacapod but had a little look and they look fab. Also got DH to approve one that he wont mind carting around, so one more decision down (just need to start actually buying some stuff! I know I keep saying this!!!)
Moosey I thought it was funny how people always do ?well done? to DH and ?congrats? to me! Like its been some massive feat for the males!!! Ah well, got to let them have something I suppose! Wink
Never how are things now? Hope all ok.
Caz I?m still going to the toilet constantly, have been all the way through so far but then I do drink gallons of water at work in the day. Have tried to stop drinking too late in to the evening to reduce the amount of times I get up in night and it has helped a bit.
Missy thanks for Costco tip, I have a card through work but haven?t been since got pregnant so will have to go have a look at weekend.
Hope you all have a lovely day!

busyboysmum · 06/07/2011 11:08

Hi all

You are all so active on here - where do you get the time?

I have joined the facebook group but am wary of posting - will my friends on facebook see what I have posted? Anyone any ideas about this? I like to keep things seperate.

We had our 20 week scan yesterday - I was actually 21+3 apparently. All went well and we saw the little one drinking the fluid and sucking its thumb. We are team yellow here although expecting it will be another boy.

I am doing the yoga every night before bed for half an hour - there is a restorative paractise which is fab and it makes me have a lovely nights sleep so would recommend that for those who can't sleep.

Cheers and have a great day Smile

BuffyFan · 06/07/2011 11:16

Hi BBM! I think cep has set up the fb group so that it is private - ie only the members of the group can see posts there. I agree with your concerns but pretty certain cep's done it right.

Congratulations on a good scan! Just counting down the hours now until mine - need to leave the house in an hour or so and am getting pretty twitchy.

Glad I was in this morning though as an amazon parcel arrived with, amongst other things, my yoga dvd. So looking forward to that this afternoon to help me wind down after the scan.

Caz definitely piddling all the time - not at all worried about having a full bladder for the scan as it only seems to take half an hour! But I'm a water-guzzler as well. Agree with kate the only thing to do is to limit drinking in the evenings (hard I know).

I just think to myself that if I wake up at 2.30, at least it means there's some time left for sleeping before I have to get up! If it's any time after around 4.30 the cat wants a cuddle...

Missyraines · 06/07/2011 11:21

Good luck Buffy know what you mean about peeing. Hard to time the full bladder for scans.

Missyraines · 06/07/2011 11:22

Oh and good news Busy 21+3? What did you think you were?

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 06/07/2011 13:10

Well had scan and all seems fine!
Baby had good heartbeat and we aw the spine and waving hands. Sonographer saw all the major organs, 4 heart chambers etc but could not get all of the measurements so am having a second scan in 2 weeks but nothing she saw worried her at all. I had this with DD, so not worried.
Couldn't see the sex, so maybe next time!

baby is lying horizontally, with head on my left and legs on my right. Placenta is nice and high, to the left and is anterior - just like DD was! So not expecting to feel too much in the way of kicking again as most kicks will be to my back.

Does anyone know if there are any implications to having a anterior placenta? There weren't any mentioned with DD and I don't believe so but just in case - anyone?

cookie9 · 06/07/2011 15:42

Hi mrsA I had anterior on first scan and now posterior although not sure if placenta can move front to back. The on,y drawback with anterior is baby more likely to be facing tummy so you have back to back labour which can be harder. Did you have this with your daughter?

PamSco · 06/07/2011 15:53

MrsA my bundle is in the same position both Babs and placenta. I asked about anterior and consultant said it was normal, only issue was doing amnio.

Happy Birthday Cali Biscuit and Wine for you!

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 06/07/2011 15:58

cookie yes DD's placenta was also anterior so sonographer thinks embryo implanted in location of old placenta (quite common apparently).

I've been having a look on baby centre site and you're right it can cause back to back labour which can be more painful but that's fine. Not being a martyr or naive but the pain does not scare me and it didn't with DD. Yes, twas very painful but I have a high pain threshold.
Interestingly, the biggest risk to having an anterior placenta is if you have a c-section as it can be located where the surgeon needs to cut and so blood loss can be a problem. But in that case you're in the right place and as I'm after a home birth, that shouldn't affect me.
I had a section with DD and it was certainly no issue then.

PamSco · 06/07/2011 16:08

I went looking after my last post and this site looks good for positioning info with anterior placenta - has a journal ref. I like the techniques page too.

cep · 06/07/2011 16:10

cali happy birthday, hope you have a fab day. hope you're feeling better.
