Just X-posted with loads of you! Glad you got your toast Almighty...... and your baby!!!!! Grin !!!!!! Congratulations! That was quick in the end, well done!

Nurse I hope you get your homebirth Sad

takethatlady · 21/06/2011 17:10

Wahey almighty congratulations! You sneaked that one up on us! Glad you're levelling out the girl-boy spread, too :)

coaaf I find that stealing the covers works best Grin

8rd I have been on the least healthy diet of my entire life since I've been pregnant. I have gone from strictly having only one chocolate bar a week to a minimum of two a day. I am going to regret it when I finally see my arse again and realise what has happened to it Grin. Anyway, as you say, sweet and sour chicken has got pineapple in it. That's one of your five a day Grin

nurse I really really hope you get the hb you want. Come out little nurse!!!

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 21/06/2011 17:12

Can I have your basket 8RD? Sounds like the sort of shop I'd do if I were at the supermarket right now.

(chocolate and new baby cuddles.... ) Hope dinner turns up soon!

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 21/06/2011 17:15

I did have all the covers at one point. They were under me, until DH started trying to claim them back. I should have kicked him!

Sure you don't want that pineapple for something else 8RD? Wink

NurseSunshine · 21/06/2011 17:17

Thanks TTL and 8RD :)

OMG please don't talk about eating unhealthily. I am disgusting these days, I eat my 5-a-day but only because I force myself to, I really don't feel like it which isn't like me at all. I'm just eating crap all the time. I have put on a ridiculous amount of weight, there's really no excuse for it. I can't believe I've let myself get like this :( Am getting quite worried about what's going to happen after baby is born

NurseSunshine · 21/06/2011 17:18

COAAF Kick him now, you might feel better about the lack of sleep Grin

8rubberduckies · 21/06/2011 17:27

Hmmm it could get messy what with all the sweet and sour sauce Confessions, maybe I'll stick to the fresh stuff for cervix-tenderising Grin

Clarkiee · 21/06/2011 18:18

I wouldn't worry too much nurse. You're doing well to eat your 5 a day because i don't think everyone manages to get all 5 in (i don't). if you're normally a heathly eater then you'll get back into it. plus you'll be so busy caring for mini nurse you'll not have time to eat rubbish and you'll be getting lots of excercise rushing about.

Clarkiee · 21/06/2011 18:20

My friend had a baby the same week as me and the other day her mum suggested she might want to go to weight watchers with her!!!!! Thanks mum Angry.

Breast feedings a good calorie burner nurse x

Hello again,

I can't believe how you all find time to keep up with this! Benjamin Jack arrived at 1.40am on Sunday 12th June and I've only just managed to get back up to date with all the postings.

Congrats to everyone else who's met their babies in the meantime - and fingers crossed that it happens soon for all of you who are bored waiting.

My labour ended up being fairly short and sweet. I'd been having period like cramps for a while and the Monday before he arrived the midwife had a rummage and said I was 3-4cm dilated. I was having monitoring every other day (for low fluid levels) so each time I went in also had a sweep (which I didn't find at all painful) and eventually at 10.20pm on Saturday (after a reasonably long walk in the afternoon) I had a really intense cramp (still low down). After 5/6 of these at 10 min intervals we phoned the hospital as I'd been told to phone if cramps got more frequent/more intense. They said to come in, given that I was having extra monitoring, although they didn't think anything was happening.

By the time I was examined I was 8cm dilated. They ended up breaking my waters for me and he was born within 2 hours of arriving at hospital.

The first week was a bit hectic as at 3 days we were referred back to the hospital as he was jaundiced. He ended up spending 15 hours under the blue light which was quite stressful as he didn't like the little eye shield he had to wear and we had to watch him constantly. However that did the trick and he's recovering now - although still not gaining weight as much as he should be so we're seeing the midwife every other day.

TTL - I'm also in Cambridge and think we've been quite lucky as we're mostly seeing our original MW although we did have a couple of others come out when ours wasn't available. However none of them seem happy with this new team structure. The main issues seem to be the lack of continuity of care and also the new message system which means that it's seemingly impossible to actually contact anyone more than once a day when the team pick up their answerphone messages. I've been encourraged to write with formal feedback - if you want the contact details I've been told to use then let me know...

NurseSunshine · 21/06/2011 18:37

Yay Almighty longest wait ever! Enjoy the toast
Congrats as well Magpie
Lisa no, not Pauline, Tracey is mine - seeing her on Thursday too but at surgery not at hosp.

I'm fine thanks. Hurt my back as it turns out, but managed to keep dh away from my knee with his sewing kit and stinging potions by jumping into the shower quickly and getting all the crud out of the cut so it looks alot neater and less 'sewable'. He's put a dressing on it and no doubt will want to monitor it all through the night . LO is none the worse for his jolt either - has had a quiet afternoon but is now in the middle of his normnal evening gymnastic session.

Have just read that fennel seeds should be avoided by pg women as it can cause unterine contractions....off now to down a pot of fennel seeds....

sasamaxx · 21/06/2011 19:54

Think I have just forgotten everything I was about to say...

Congratulations Magpie, Almighty, Crazychick and Jer - enjoy your newborn snuggles.

TTL do you know the name of the sling your DH tried?
When you say it was like a mei tai with buckles, do you mean something like this?
If so, you are looking for an SSC (soft structured carrier) or perhaps a buckle tai?

Prices for these carriers new are £50 - £100+ but there are plenty of used ones on the for sale boards e.g. connecta and here - this one isn't very clear but she is selling this carrier for £57.

curioselle just spotted a moby for £20 here - not sure if it's still available but I could check for you if you like.

confessions hope your dh feels a bit more normal soon - what meds is he on? My dh is on clomipramine and they seem to really work Smile

Celeste is still v windy and unsettled during the night but we're just taking it a day at a time just now.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 21/06/2011 19:54

Once again have been failing to keep up! Will need to keep this brief as I expect DD to wake up any time!

Mum is up and is loving DD and has been having plenty of playtime with DS too :)

Sassamax/Couriselle - I got that sling from victoria the sling lady, and I have to agree with Sassa - DD tends to slip down in it, still secure but too low down. But it was only £10. So will be looking for another one ASAP.

Almighty - she's not a friend, you have a stalker Shock She sounds unhinged! And a big congrats on the birth of your boy, sorry you have had such fucking awful treatment at the hospital, you must be utterly starving!! I hope you have sent DH out for the takeaway of your choice!

Jer - congratulations on your baby girl, sounds like you had a good experience with your elcs!

Labella - how are you feeling are you still sore?

Clarkiee - the injections are tough! I cried when DS had his first ones. I bfed him immediately afterwards and that sorted him out!

Moog - congratulations on your little boy, and yey for your HB!! G&A is good stuff!

Crazy - congrats on your little girl as well!

Jasmine - hope you are okay after your fall, how is your knee?

Confessions - great that you managed to get hold of shrink. GP wasn't much bloody use!!

8rd - one of the best things about the room I had was the bottle of entonox in the bathroom Grin

Magpie - congrats on your boy too :) Sorry about the problems you had and am glad he is over his jaundice.

Good timing... madam is waking up.... cue another 3 hours stuck on the sofa feeding her... what a hardship! Still she is letting me have 5 hours unbroken sleep on the night ShockGrin Just like to point out that DS used to wake up every hour at this age!!

sasamaxx · 21/06/2011 20:12

Oh dear Kara Sad - that lady also sells 'woven' wraps which aren't actually woven and a very different thing altogether.

TTL I've just spotted this as well - Yamo is a really great carrier for babies. I was using mine the other day, altho I've had mine a while and am getting itchy for a new SSC so it might be up for sale soon too Wink

takethatlady · 21/06/2011 20:43

sasa I showed DH those links and he said the Angel or the Yamo - they look great! Thank you SO much for the information - you're a star!

Hi magpie and congratulations! Yes, I'd like to give feedback. I don't feel they've managed the transition very well at all and, like you say, I feel there's nobody there in my corner, nobody I can contact if I really need to or who will argue my case for me if I need anything at this point in the pregnancy. Like I said, today the mw was really lovely and did her best - it wasn't her fault at all - but she got shouted at for trying to make me an appointment! And when I asked her why the appointment was obligatory she said 'it just is', which wasn't that helpful! PM me if you can - though I know you have lots more on your plate than sending me the details so not to worry if you're busy! And thanks a lot supersunny :) That makes me feel a lot better (not your crappy care, but the fact that engaging/not engaging doesn't make any difference. I know this, but it's nice to have it reaffirmed.) DH came home with flowers, flumps (my favourite) and fish and chips, so he is in the good books and I feel much better :)

almighty I agree with kara - single white female alert ...

sasamaxx · 21/06/2011 21:29

Glad to be of help TTL - yamo is quite manly looking so men often quite like it, and it's suitable from birth as well Smile

sasamaxx · 21/06/2011 21:30

crazychic forgot to say love your name - your baby's middle name is the same as my DD1's first name Grin

CitizenOscar · 22/06/2011 06:16

ttl I didn't have any 'symptoms' before I started getting regular contractions. Head not engaged, no braxton hicks, nothing. I had an appointment at 38 weeks then nothing booked until day after due date. I ended up giving birth 3 days before due date anyway but was surprised not to have appt at 39 weeks.

Keep your fx for us - we're meant to be coming out of hospital today once LO has completed course of antibiotics. Can't remember whether i Posted about my birth but I had to stay in to recover after losing loads of blood after a straightforward if q long delivery. Looking forward to leaving hospital food behind!

My milk's come in overnight so my boobs are mahoosive! DH will have a shock when he gets here! Quite sore too. Any of you experienced mums got tips? LO seems q upset by the change of size/Shape & only feeds for about 3mins at a time. Also not latching as well anymore - ouch!!!!

Congrats to all new mums & calm patient vibes to those awaiting bundles!

neenewps · 22/06/2011 06:52

Happy due date 8RD

Had a terrible nights sleep worrying about baby's movements again. He is moving but just less so it seems! Have a midwife apt at 9am so will chat it through with her! I realise this is only the start of the worry Wink

motherofsnortpigs · 22/06/2011 07:46

Wahey Almighty If there were medals for endurance to hand out, you'd get one! citizen ouch at massive boobs. If your breast is so full that the nipple is too flat for a latch, squeeze a little bit of milk out first - there's plenty there, Rafael won't starve. Also, don't stress about length of feed. If there's loads of milk it's probably coming out quite fast; and little and often will stop you getting too full. sasa we've borrowed a connecta but now can't fine one to buy. Any inside info on when they'll be available again? DH figures that the 2nd hand ones are so expensive we may as well buy new. My first day blood today - agh! When will I get dressed?!

motherofsnortpigs · 22/06/2011 07:47

ALONE not blood...

takethatlady · 22/06/2011 08:04

Grin sasa my DH is so in touch with his feminine side he'd probably enjoy the flowery girly wraps better Grin. But the Yamo does look fab. Just looked at the new Baby Bjorn Miracle online (I know, I know Blush) - it's £110!!! Nearly spat out my cornflakes!

neenewps Isobel has definitely been moving less this last week. She's wriggling about as I write this but sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between her movements and BHs as she often just pushes out and my bump goes hard. And I've had quite a few days in the last week where she doesn't seem to have moved all day and just goes in for her usual crazy hour around 11pm, which is reassuring. According to the Count the Kicks campaign babies' movements do NOT significantly drop before birth, so it's good to keep an eye on it, but the pattern can definitely change and the sensation of the movements changes too, so you might feel it less or not recognise the movements or not get them when you were expecting - I'm sure this is what's happening to me (heard a lovely strong variable heartbeat at mw yesterday) and I'm sure it is what's happening to you too. Good luck with the mw :)

Thanks so much citizen :) I have loads of BHs - last night was especially BH-heavy, and lots of heaviness on my fanjo Grin - especially when I wee - and the odd cramp and bit of backache. I also had bleeding on Sunday which the mw said was the cervix preparing for the birth. So I guess I do have plenty of signs that this baby is coming. But it is nice to be reminded that none of this means all that much and that babies can just spontaneously decide to be born - even naughty un-engaged ones :)

FX for you citizen that you get to come home today - I'm sure that will be a massive relief. Hope the antibiotics work their magic and your LO is feeling much better soon. Congratulations, btw :) xxx
