xdreamx - we extended our last house too so have effectively been living in a building site for about 4 years!!! am resigned rather than stoical!! DH is very very good at making the house workable whilst everything is going on though, which helps, and he knows when i have had enough and just need him to phone in a curry because i can't face trying to cook!! as for managing without a kitchen - this time we have managed to keep a hob and oven going for most of the time and have a sink in the utility room so are managing with that. DH has built a makeshift kitchen in the extension with old units and the oven/hob (luckily it's a range so don't need worksurface for the hob to sit in) and we manage with that. he moves the worksurface and cupboards around as the various trades come in. it's not ideal but it kinda works. am looking forward to having running water, a floor (should be in by the time I get home from Cornwall!!) and all the plates etc back in the kitchen though! And our new kitchen is being delivered next week too... giant leaps forward at the moment. If you do end up doing one, I would recommend doing it over the summer - nothing worse that being without heating/water in the winter, and you can bbq if you get desperate!!

Just back from the beach where dd had a lovely time running and paddling and i sunbathed in a sheltered spot (in a windproof fleece!!). yay for sunny days!!

xBB3x daft question - but - what do you have in terms of baby equipment - swing seats, bouncey chairs etc etc??? trying to work out how many of what I am going to need!!!!!

tabbycatt · 22/10/2011 17:26

and apologies - the x were supposed to be *. pregnancy brain strikes again.

dream - also meant to say - hope your dd is getting better???

BB3 · 22/10/2011 20:40

dream how Is dd? If you're worried you could call NHS direct or I'd take her back to drs early? How are you feeling? Cramps are quite common. I remember balling my eyes out convinced I was losing one / both and dh had to literally carry me over hospital doorway to scan and the little blighters started wiggling around and telling mr they were ok as soon as I led on bed (before scan)! Felt like an emotionally drained fool Wink

Sorry on my phone do can't remember who posted what but...

On sex, I was convinced it was one of each and I said two girls would be least favourite option as I'm very much a boys mummy (duh with ds hey!!) but not very good at dolls and things and dh is Turkish so quite worried about boyfriend etc but as soon as they'd arrived and I asked them if they were sure it was two girls about four times (couldn't believe it as everyone was convinced it was one if each from start) it's like there was no other option, just perfect Smile

tabby what do we have - right
Pram - I'd recommend getting one with good Lay down pram bits - we use ours a lot to put girls down in during the day. Also one with car seat adaptor so if your just popping in and out places you can bung them on and off quickly.

2 Moses baskets as I wanted then to sleep separately (although they'll top and rail in a cot bed eventually). I'd probably put them in cot straight away if I was going to do it again.

2 play mats they hardly use yet (we got different ones for variety) so I wouldn't worry about these.

We've just bought two bouncy chairs in the tesco half price sale and could have done with them a week or so ago!

They were given little baby toys but aren't interested yet.

They have (literally) a cot full of cuddly toys and interactive things that they just are no where near close to caring about.

With ds we didn't use the baby bath at all but are using it for the twins as its more convenient to bring in to the living room and bath them one after other than go up and down twice. Although they went into ds' bath tonight ede first then Ayse and he loved it! Wink Ayse hates baths though! Screams and screams!!!!

Other than that - Steriliser, changing mat, nappy bag - the usual stuff. That's pretty much it I think...

dreamfeeder · 22/10/2011 21:34

Poor DD is still really grotty. I'm lucky in that DH is a GP, but she was still running a temp of 39 after calpol and nurofen and with no clear source of infection. DH even waited patiently to catch some wee to dip it and check it wasn't a UTI. We both got jittery about meningitis so have just got back from the out of hours GP. I wasn't very impressed- he took her temp- 39 unsurprisingly- and had a look at her, reckoned she had raised glands in her neck and a red throat so put that as focus of infection. I'm a bit Hmm, DH has looked at her throat again and says it's mildly red so she's in bed now and hope she picks up.

I'm so exhausted after 4 nights of her not sleeping well at all- I had her from 2am last night. DH says he'll try and do tonight, but the monkey usually wants mummy and cries with daddy.

I'm still worrying about these babies too, but reckon my best option is to try and get consultant to scan me next Thurs. With no EPU there isn't much else I can do.

House extensions sound like hell... maybe we'll squish evryone in just as it is Wink

BB3 · 22/10/2011 22:17

We built a 4 bed house on aide if my parents house during the throws of my morning sickness with the girls. Never. Ever. Again!

dream could you have dd in with you and dh sleep in her room. If ds is sick he always sleeps a bit better if he is cuddled up to me (although you might not want to risk infecting yourself). Poor dd hope she picks up.

I think you should call mw tomorrow and say you're worried and see if they can get you in for scan - play on duty of care (which they have) and make sure you play up lack if maternity services and your expectations for your care ongoing. You need reassurance and they need to give it to you !

PeelingmyselfofftheCeiling · 23/10/2011 00:32

Hello all! Have a few minutes to update a little. Our 2 were born on sept 14th at just over 30 weeks. Our little girl weighed just 2lb 13 and her brother 3lb 4.

Their entry to the world was rather dramatic - DH was abroad, our house was in a major rebuild, and I had no-one to take me into hospital when my waters went very suddenly so ended up going in in a builder's lorry! Labour progressed very quickly - went from 0 to fully dilated in around 4 hours - and was all lined up for a natural delivery but ended up with a last minute EMCS under GA. Both went straight to NICU, and we've now been there 5 weeks! Ds gave us a bit of a scare in the first week and ended up being ventilated and transferred to another hospital (nearby centre of excellence) for a few days, which was horribly hard for all of us, but once his breathing recovered his progress was amazingly quick. Both now mainly growing and learning to feed - am trying to b'feed after 5 long weeks of expressing...

They are both gorgeous - dd has nearly caught up in weight despite being IUGR small for age at birth. He is bonny and gorgeous, but a bit pukey with a PDA. So life with twins for me involves commuting to the hospital every day currently, whilst madly trying to get the house finished in time for their return (tabby, I feel your pain!). Can't wait to get them home and start being a proper mum!

BB3 · 23/10/2011 02:30

peeling wow - a builders lorry?!?!

Well done on getting those little ones here safe and sound and getting through the tough times early on, glad they're both doing ok now. When do you think you will all be allowed home?

dreamfeeder · 23/10/2011 10:20

Oh my goodness peeling that certainly is dramatic. You are a very brave person, an EMCS under GA without Dh around must have been very scary. You are clearly an amazing 'coper' which of course will make you a perfect twin mum! I bet the little ones are just gorgeous, well done you.

Can't really say the same for myself- I was still so worried about dd last night. She's had all sorts of viruses before and i just couldn't believe a mildly red throat with no other cold symptoms could drive her temp so high (40 before, 39 after calpol and nurofen) and have her so lethargic and off her feet... I sobbed on Dh for ages once we'd got her to sleep. I think part of the problem is I'm exhausted. She's sleeping so badly anyway that I keep ending up in the spare bed with her, but she's so wriggly I can't really let myself do more than doze a little. As i learnt to my horror with a massive crash and huge bruising to her face when i did fall asleep and let go of her once last week...

Anyway, Dh managed to have her all night last night, so I feel a bit better. Think she's just waking up so will go and check her

xkatyx · 23/10/2011 10:44

Dreamfeeder what you are describing with your little one is exact what my sister is going throughout with her ds.
My sister was so worried because this tempature was so high and wouldn't go down!
Last night she had enough took him to out of hours doctor and he has tonsilitous (sp?) he has had a few doses of antibiotics and it has made an amazing difference!!!!
Sounds like your little one could do with some antibiotics.
Hope she gets well soon.

X

dreamfeeder · 23/10/2011 14:07

Thanks xkatyx, her temp has finally come down, and though she's still not right I'm so relieved. Her tonsils looked fine, not red at all, and no white dots, the only thing the doctor found was a mildly red throat. We were worried about meningitis as she didn't have an obvious cause for her temp etc, but as it's broken, and she seems on the mend we're not giving the antibiotics. We can't see a mildly red throat being a bacterial infection, it must just have been a really bad virus (I say 'we', more DH, he's the GP, not me!).

Will let you know how I get on with pestering for a scan...! I'll try my mw tomorrow I think. I almost don't want one, because I've convinced myself it would be bad news, and I almost just want to be able to carry on oblivious thinking it's all fine with them both. I am losing the plot like DH says

Your list is very useful BB3. My DD hated her moses basket with a passion, and I battled on with it til she was 9 weeks old, when I tried her in her cot, in desperation really, as I was so desperate for some sleep, and she only ever slept 2 hours in the moses basket, on a good night (!!!). First night in the cot, she slept 8 hours straight. I was in shock, had to check she was alive 4 times, and my boobs felt ready to explode! But I won't bother with 2 baskets and will also hopefully go straight for a cot bed- and get anther bouncy chair and playmats (our last was borrowed and rubbish). I'm the opposite of you BB3, saying to myself 2 boys is my least preferred option- we have all girls clothes (and some absolutely gorgeous ones I'd love to use again), I don't know what to do with boys (not that DD has a doll yet, and she does like her train and cars but...) and 2 of her boy friends are SO boisterous, and so much harder to keep safe and keep an eye on than her that I think it might be the most difficult option in terms of looking after them all! I bet I will change my mind instantly if I have 2 boys (or find out before, we're still undecided), and be delighted!!! And I'd love one to be a boy. I do actually think it's 2 boys, in fact I'm quite sure I'm having 2 boys. Probably as sure as you were that you're having one of each!

dreamfeeder · 23/10/2011 18:07

I've had loads more sharp, horrible cramps and pains today. My wanting some advice situation is this- the midwives/labour ward etc don't deal with anyone under 18 weeks pregnant with any problems in our area. I tried the midwives' number that I have and as it isn't in use over the weekend it diverts to Labour ward. The mw was very nice, but told me they won't see anyone under 18 weeks, you have to see a GP until then, so she said I could ring out of hours GP service. She did ask if I was bleeding- which I'm not- so she said the out of hours GP would be very, very unlikely to say anything other than rest. So I don't see the point, and will try either my midwife on her mobile in the morning (sure she'll say the same thing) or just go to the GP. Oh well...

xkatyx · 23/10/2011 20:52

Dreamfeeder have you tried nhs direct? They might ask you to come down and scan you.

I know no point me saying this but please be reassured that those pains were same for me.
I was same as you got myself in a right state and booked a private scan, is that something you would think about if eveyonr isn't helping???
I loved private scan took so much time and lovely pictures.

Omg I think if my dh was a gp I would drive him
Nuts lol

dreamfeeder · 24/10/2011 13:02

There's nowhere local for a private scan- well, there is but temporarily shut due to staff sickness. I'm much more reassured that everyone seems to say pains are way worse with twins and hope that's all it is. I saw the gp this morning, who clearly thought I was mad but rang EPU (it seems we do have one but you can only access it via gp referral with a letter.) and they're going to see me. I'm very nervous, so fingers crossed...

Hope everyone else is blooming nicely, or looking after their twins with ease Wink

xkatyx · 24/10/2011 13:44

That is fantastic, fingers crossed for you

BB3 · 24/10/2011 15:26

dream let us know how you get on. Xxx

I have a troublesome toddler - he will not stop chewing and eating plastic! Toys, remote control buttons, toothbrush!!! Gah!!!

Twins are sleeping me and ds have been playing but I'm struggling now as a bit sleepy! It's times like this I wish he was a cuddly little boy who liked to snuggle and watch tv! Alas he is not and now he's using me as a climbing frame! Grin

claireinmodena · 24/10/2011 21:05

My data to add: DCDA, b&g, DC 3 & 4 (!!), Edd 23 feb 2012

drem hope everything went wll today. To anseer your auestion, my girls are extremely excited, they keep kissing my bump and talking about the babies and about when we'll be a family of six. Shock! the girls and I have chosen names, but Dh is taking his time before giving us his opinion!! But I havi no diubt he'll give in after keeping us on hold til the end. He wont be able to refuse his girls Grin

Had a checkup last week and all is well with the twins, e cept I'm getting terrible ligament pains, and whenever i get up from sitti g i get horrible pains, i can actually feel them as they obviously struggle to stretch back... Ounch! And my back hurts.

Other than this all fine, i'm celebrating my big "four o" this week, with friends and family.

I got the moses baskets i ordered from john lewis this week and busy washing and sorting all the baby clothes i've been given. Definitely nesting!

Keep welll everyone and dont overdo with extensions, etc, this my first prevnancy where we're not doing any major work, or moving house!! Xxx

dreamfeeder · 24/10/2011 21:08

I have just spent a marathon 2 hours getting DD to sleep.... She is definitely much better, but still not eating at all or drinking much and doesn't want to play, just be carried around/held all day And she'll only sleep on me, so after many attempts at a nap I gave in and accepted my fate and sat with her asleep on my chest for an hour and a half... Fairly wearing for me, but I do feel sorry for the little mite so I'm persevering. The only other option is a howling baby, so not much choice really. Once she's better I have to sort this out!!!

I ended up on the gynae ward today. Much hanging about, but finally got scanned at 4:30, and they also scanned my left kidney (the pains are like someone is kicking me, making me almost shout out its so sudden and so painful!!!). Both babies were fine, measuring 14+5 and 14+6 (I'm officially 14+4) so sonographer was pleased with that, said the fluid round both was pretty equal, they were super wriggly, and my kidney seemed fine, no cysts anywhere, cervix closed and fine. So pain unexplained, but I'm feeling so much better and so happy. I sobbed cried at seeing both heartbeats on the scan... The sonographer has probably seen it all before but I felt a bit silly... He was lovely though- it was the sonogrpaher who did my first scan with DD, and picked up that a single umbilical artery was misdiagnosed for her at my 20 weeks scan so I already thought he was amazing but I could have kissed him! Rang DH who said 'see?' (not quite what he said yesterday). Hindsight is a wonderful gift!

BB3, well done for keeping going. I can see why human climbing frame may not be your top choice of down time with DS Grin. At least he's an active little boy and not a couch potato- it's a bonus!!

dreamfeeder · 24/10/2011 21:14

x-posts claire. Your girls sound lovely, how nice they're so excited! John Lewis exist in Italy?! Great! What a shame the pains are so bad- with a pretty long way to go too... Maybe the girls can teach your DH to load the dishwasher Wink. I taught mine how to set it yesterday... Have a lovely birthday!

It does seem bad pains are the norm... I was hoping for it to be much later on though as surely I'm too early for that (thought the SHO at the hospital did comment on how big my bump was for 14 weeks...!) Hopefully I'll be able to relax about it all more now.

claireinmodena · 25/10/2011 11:49

Thank you dream, they girls are very sweet, hope the reality doesn't disappoint them!

Good news about your scan, even though the pains are unexplained, still, at least you know the babies are doing fine. I guess every pregnancy is different, but this twin one is VERY different from both my other two!

Hope your little one recovers soon too, so you can definitely relax a bit!

John Lewis do not exist in Italy but they have recently started delivering (v. reasonable shipping rates too), which could just about change my life!!! (and my bank a/c Wink

ps sorry about spelling mistakes, I'm constantly on a rush, but just wnated to check in.

ciao

hi all

just a quick post as can hear dd stirring and think i will therefore be required to assist in the making of muffins for breakfast that I promised her...

Dream - great news that all is ok. I got lots of random pains in first trimester, and even now get sharp twinges for no reason every so often. it's scary. glad you got a scan - makes such a difference to have your mind put at rest!

Claire - I had horrendous pelvic pain early on, but am glad to say that it has got a little better recently (am a few weeks ahead of you). do still get horrific back pain though - slmost goes into spasm around my ribs and the only solution I have found is to lie down! (Tricky when you're out and about!) Hope you feel better soon.

Quempin - welcome back!!!

BB3 - thanks for your list of baby equipment - very useful.

ok... muffins acalling. have a nice day all - hope weather isn't too bad where you are - rain here is impressive (although thankfuly intermittent!)

dreamfeeder · 26/10/2011 12:17

Quick post from me too- I'm exhausted after the worst night I've ever had with DD. She was inconsolable, screaming at the top of her lungs, writhing around, clawing at me, I couldn't keep hold of her, couldn't put her down, awful. Forced calpol and nurofen down, and she choked on the nurofen and wasn't breathing properly through the choking and the screaming and the whole experience was so dreadful. When I finally got her to sleep, in the spare bed with me at 11pm I though phew! Maybe some of the screaming was exhaustion (bedtime is 7pm) but she woke again a couple of hours later and was just as distraught. So horrible. Still, we survived. She has a rash that is probably viral but ??? rubella. Don't know what to do, wait and see, or see GP for the third time... Currently waiting. my dad has come up to help. I am off work for my third official day back after mat leave. Not good.

Muffins sound lovely tabbycatt, I'm hungry, but also very empty, throwing up a lot this morning. Still, 15 weeks tomorrow! And consultant appointment tomorrow (work will go ballistic, I'm hardly there even though I'm 'back')

Hello quempin! What!? computer kicks you off mn? How rude! How many weeks are you now? We're trying to revive the list...

BB3 · 26/10/2011 15:00

Quick post from me too as one twin feeding and ds climbing on the dining room table!!!! dream I'd take her to drs again as she's not getting better (and perhaps worse) and ask them to check her again for your own peace of mind at the very least.

tabbycatt · 26/10/2011 17:08

dream - how's she doing? i would def take her to the dr too... hope you have a better night tonight. don't worry about work, you're entitled to time off if LO sick and you don't need to be worrying about that too!

dreamfeeder · 26/10/2011 19:10

By the time Dh got home, her rash had faded a bit, she's eaten some tea for the first time in 5 days and (crossing everything) seems to be getting better, finally... I've never been so worried about her and it is such a relief. Dh rang work for me this morning as dd too upset for me to be messing round on the phone and putting her down and he has said they didn't seem bothered. So I'm feeling more optimistic. Plus I had a nap! My dad was wonderful today, stayed after Dh home (2pm ish, half day for him) so we could both go to bed. I've never mastered the art of napping- falling asleep is an issue I've had since childhood and after dd's birth I felt better once I gave up trying to nap. Yet this is my third in 3 weeks. A sign of how exhausted I feel already maybe...

Thanks for the messages of support, I will hope for a better night.
And quit with the me me me posts!!!
