Thanks everyone, il dig out my iron and vit c tablets from before. Pre-pregnancy id take multi vits and whenever I started to feel run down (busy period at work etc) id take an extra iron in the morning and that usually worked. Think my levels have always been boarderline.

Good luck with teh scan konatsu

wishwales · 15/06/2011 10:32

Regarding iron levels, at 11.5 I would say it depends on how you feel. If your energy is not what is usually is, it certainly wouldn't hurt to take the supplements.

As far as Group B strep, I personally recommend that you get tested if you are able. I was positive and it was simply treated with IV antibiotics during labour. Don't read the horror stories - there is a low probability - but spending a bit of cash for a test for something potentially serious BUT that can be treated is invaluable. How many tests do we take for stuff that we can't change IYSWIM?

On a personal note, I am not sure if I should stay here since I am no longer August and lots does not pertain to me anymore. Although I feel I may have things to add since I have been through it now. I was thinking my next post would be about what was essential for me during labour whilst it is fresh. What do y'all think?

CappuccinoCarrie · 15/06/2011 10:38

Just had the weekly email from bounty and it reported that we spend about £183million a year (!) on things we don't use for our babies, the list of 20 least useful items is:
Air purifier
Video monitor
Baby DVD
Room humidifier
Designer pram / pushchair
Changing bin
Room thermometer
Feeding pillow
Sound and movement monitor
Baby bath stand
Top and tail bowl
Baby shoes
Bath thermometer
Round rubber baby chair
Car seat cover
Brand name nappies
Bath seat
Baby swing
Baby walker
Soft cuddly toys

The top 20 list didn't show properly, although it did have things like 'cot' on it which I guess are pretty useful!

I've gone from being told how massive I am by everyone I meet to being told how neat I am for only 9 weeks to go. Baby still incredibly active every night at about 10:30 for a couple of hours to the point it stops me sleeping

DTM can't believe your DP is back so soon, hope the time has flown for you and you enjoy your special pre-baby time together.

KLou111 · 15/06/2011 10:40

Hope the scan goes well konatsu :)

All OK here. All this talk of iron is beyond me lol!! Been quite lucky so far, hoping it stays that way!

Off to Take That this afternoon, can't wait, although the weather has turned shite again! Thankfully stadium has a roof! Train to Cardiff is 1.5 hours from us, at 3pm, then don't get back home til 2am so going to be a looooooooooong day. Thank god we have seats at the arena!

Thankfully we have fab neighbours who are sorting the dogs for us :) Well, there are only 4 of us (one house no-one lives in at the mo), and both neighbours are away from tomorrow til Monday so we have the whole ex 'farmyard' to ourselves woohoo!!! Although we have guinea pigs, chicken and duck to look after from one neighbour and chickens from the other, so dog sitting for one night is the least they can do lol!

Have MW appt tomorrow afternoon, will be 32 weeks (even though it's my 31 week appt!!) so hoping bump measures well as still small I think, so we'll have to see.

Have a good one all x

OP posts:
KLou111 · 15/06/2011 10:44

I got that too Capp although I think some of the things on the non useful list (like monitor and thermometer) will be extremely useful to us :)
But I do get the baby shoes thing WTF???? That's just silly!

Anu3 · 15/06/2011 10:47

winter Ive been taking a iron supplement called spatone everyday now for about 2 months. All you do is mix 2 sachets of it in orange juice every morning and have it. My iron count is fine but my MW said it wont do me any harm having spatone and also its not so high in iron content that is can cause an overdose. So ive continued to have it. here is the link for it in boots
www.boots.com/en/Spatone-Iron-Sachets-28_4933/

Im off to my 4D scan in a couple of hours and CANNOT wait to see bubba! :) Will write more when Im back !

Anu3 · 15/06/2011 10:57

Oh Klou! Take That is going to be amazing! We are going to the Wembley stadium on the 1st of July to see them as well! I was just a bit concerned if the loud music was going to be OK for bubba to take! Let me know what your experience was on tha front after the concert tonight! :)

Rootatoot · 15/06/2011 11:14

Hi August Mums, can I join in? Due 19 th with 1st.

I was interested in the chat about iron levels. I've expressed concern from my first appointment about iron because I have had aneamia a long time ago and I don't eat meat. Well, my last MW appointment, found out that they hadn't recorded my iron level at 12 weeks afaik. It's not in my notes. They tested at 28 weeks and said it was fine, but it was only around 11.5 or so. I've been taking preg vits but not specifically an iron one. Might have a look at the Spatone Anu so thanks for that.

Also, everyone here keeps mentioning their placenta position and how baby is lying. Well, I have no idea on either. Cant' see anyting in notes. Plus MW at last appointment said no point bothering about how baby lying at 28 weeks because they will move so much. Is this right?

Next appointment is Monday with my GP, so might get more info out of her rather than MWs as I haven't met same one twice yet.

KTisPG · 15/06/2011 11:27

Welcome Root I'm due on 20th with my third.

I'd be surprised if your GP is able to give you more info than the MW TBH - they don't usually specialise in pregnancy/babies so are great for general info but MWs are much more specialised IYSWIM. Re position it should say on your notes under Presentation. Mine says ceph (meaning Cephalic) ie head down. Vx (vertex) also means head down, BR (Breech) - feet/bottom down. It may also have a fraction like 3/5 which means that the MW can feel 3/5 of the head above the pelvis, so 2/5 are engaged. It is also quite usual for the head to be engaged at one appointment and then not at the next, although first babies are usually engaged earlier than subsequent pgs.

KLou I went to Take That in Manchester on Friday and had a brilliant time. I think bubs did as much dancing as I did :o

Rootatoot · 15/06/2011 11:49

hi kTisPG

Yeah, I know what you mean about GP it's just that she actually seems to have time to talk to me where as MWs have all been in mad rush & last one was v unhelpful and dismissive when I asked anything. I checked my notes and there is nothing written in at all for Presentation. I accepted what MW said about it being irrelevant as they move, but then everyone else due around same time seem to be talking about it, so Confused

Glad to hear you all getting out and having fun. I don't think I have energy for fun at the moment! Off for much longed for, long weekend in wales tomorrow tho. This is my 'holiday' so going to enjoy beaches even if it pees down!

bettyboo83 · 15/06/2011 11:56

Don't be daft WishWales we need you more than ever! Hope things are going well with you and Morgan?
Welcome Rootatoot
Have a fab time at Take That KLou I'm sooooo jealous! Envy
I've just ordered this changing bag to jazz up my black pram Smile On another thread it suggested packing the baby things for the hospital in the changing bag so you're not having to root through all your own stuff too. I'm getting excited now!

LifeOfKate · 15/06/2011 12:01

Hi Rootatoot :) My midwife didn't feel for presentation of the baby as like yours said, they move around so much and there is still so much time from the 28 week appt so it's a little pointless. They might feel at your 31 week appt, although I don't get one of those since this is my second pregnancy, so have to wait until 34 weeks to know which way round it is! Might not be relevant for me anyway though since I might be having a section anyway :)

Wishwales... aww, I'm sure we all still think of you as an August person, although I know what you mean as I guess Morgan will be way ahead of our babies. If you do decide to leave us , you will have to check in regularly anyway to tell us how you're doing :) The same goes for any other pre-August babies... I'm thinking of the twins mostly!

davidtennantsmistress · 15/06/2011 12:10

agree with kate wales, you should feel free to stop with us girls.

ref the baby moving at 28 weeks - my MW had a feel, but got the baby back to front (said the spine was the other side of my tummy) anyhow, I know he's done at least one full turn as it was quite pain ful when the little gremlin did it - however DP say's it's my own fault on account of eating so many haribo's and wine gums. :o with DS he was 4/5's engaged from about 32 ish weeks I think then went fully engaged the day before my waters went (I think however the amount I was waddling by then he'd engaged fully on the sunday before) i'm fully expecting this one to not engage until the day before at the earliest.

klou - ooh yes let us know how take that is & how long you're stood/waiting/the show is etc. I'm going on the 2nd July in wembly travelling down via the underground as well, have NO IDEA how to get there yet so hoping my friend will know, but i'm thinking we may possibly have a good 4-5 hour wait etc?

davidtennantsmistress · 15/06/2011 12:20

betty that looks brilliant. i've gone for this one but in pale blue Just debating if to get the matching blue foot muff or go for a black one instead as it will need to be reused and at £70 each I'm thinking blue might not be the best colour even if it does match my changing bag.

i'm sure there's loads of stuff i've forgotten to get as well so far but atm can't think of a thing.

Rootatoot · 15/06/2011 12:24

LifeofKate Thanks for that. Makes me feel better. I wasn't bothered about it but then started to wonder when I'd seen others talking about it, and they're same stage as me. Just with them not recording my iron count either, started to get a little twitchy about the MW info I'm getting.

Hope all you Take That fans have a great time :)

Ohh also forgot to mention...my pushchair/pram coming next week! Getting a bit real now gathering stuff together. Plus my Mum and Dad are coming down for visit and we're going baby shopping. Don't see them that often so looking forward to it... Hope everyone else's preparations going ok? Grin

littlemisslozza · 15/06/2011 12:53

Welcome Rootatoot!

re Take That the Pet SHop Boys came on at 7pm, TT came on at 8.15pm and finished at 10.30pm, this was at Manchester last Wednesday. They were fantastic, wish I could go again! If you have seats (which I would imagine you have being this pg??) then you haven't really got to wait around much, just go to your seat when you're ready. Did stand (dancing....) throughout the whole show though but at least no pushing like there may be on the ground. Noise fine Anu, hoping baby will come out a TT fan Wink There was a fab steward who ushered me towards a set of loos that were a bit hidden and she was basically directing pregnant women and those with children towards them rather than having to stand in a very long queue, was very considerate Smile.

re iron levels I have taken iron tablets in all three pregnancies, third trimester onwards, not caused me any digestive problems but I know some people suffer with constipation from them. After about a week of being on them this time I felt so much more energised and far less lethargic.

Interesting list Carrie, agree with quite a lot of it except the feeding pillow (can understand why it's on there though as a very large percentage of women have given up bf by about 6 weeks so I suppose it wouldn't be much use then), room thermometer (love my Grobag Egg thermometer, so handy for me) and branded nappies (despite trying cheaper ones nothing contained those explosive newborn poos like Pampers with my babies, far less washing as a result!). I have never seen the point of a top and tail bowl, and baby baths are an absolute nuisance ime too. Nothing wrong with a washing up bowl for a couple of weeks then into the big bath with a foam support, you get your hands free that way too and my babies have seemed to feel more secure like that, much less crying than when I was holding them in the baby bath.

Wishwales keep us updated on Morgan, hope she is doing well.

mlgroom · 15/06/2011 13:00

Hi all, I am due in August 2011 and live in Bristol, are you from Bristol?

KLou111 · 15/06/2011 14:01

Welcome and congrats to Root and mlgroom :) Where are you off to for your weekend in wales?

Wishwales course you are still welcome you daft bat!!! Be nice to have some advice :)

I've got seats for TT. Wasn't pregnant when booked though so really feel for those that don't have seats although I can't see me sitting a lot!!!
Re Wembley queuing, I'd get there later rather than earlier then you don't queue so much IYKWIM??

We're getting to Cardiff for 4:35ish and doors open at 5 but we're going to get there for 6:30ish as there is a pub over the road and we're meeting some friends from the Midlands who are also going to the concert. Oh and get this, we didn't know they were booking Cardiff, there are 8 of them, and on checking their tickets, they are in the same row as us seats 1-8 and we are 13-14, how scary is that!!!!!!! We couldn't have done that if we'd wanted to!!
Anyway, off now, will check in tomorrow x

OP posts:
MrsStevo · 15/06/2011 14:18

I am filled with Envy about all you lot going to take that!! I had tickets for both Villa Park and Dublin but sold them both as I am far too fat to go!

My mum has just gone home after being here since Thursday - she has done SO much around the house! The nursery is almost ready as well - just need the chest of drawers to be delivered and the second cot to be collected. Oh, and need to figure out the decorations .... I haven't put any of the stickers up yet. anu - was it you who ordered that big tree sticker from amazon? Has it arrived yet and is it as good as it looks??

I am 30 + 1 today! Can't believe it has been 10 weeks since the twin-twin transfusion / surgery saga!! I've only got 6 weeks to go now (ish, don't have a date for the CS yet) ... I can't wait! Can't believe we're all going to be mummies soon :)

wishwales - you have to stay on here as we want to hear all about how you and Morgan are getting on!! How is she doing? Is she still in hospital? and if so - any ideas when you'll get to bring her home? Hope you're both doing really well.

WinterLover · 15/06/2011 15:05

Hi Root good to see you on this thread (although I may start getting confused as to which thread im on now lol)

I wouldnt worry too much about presentation, think they only get concerned about it when you hit 34/36 weeks. The only reason my MW is keeping an eye on it as its causing me quite a bit of pain, lays transvers so head is just left of my belly button and it stretched uterus alot :( or breech with head in ribs and feet in pelvis. I have in the back of my notes all the 'sheets' that get sent from the Path lab and the hospital - MWs just keep stamping them and adding them to my maternity notes.

littlemissw · 15/06/2011 15:44

Oh, I really am not doing well at keeping up with all of you lovely ladies ....

A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to wishwales!! Morgan is simply yummy & it looks as if she is doing really well. So happy for you & well done for managing to hang on for such a long time. :)

Loving the 3D scan pics & all the birth stories. It's making me even more excited about meeting my little man now, even though my births were both super-long & I my first I'd rather forget. I might put my birth stories up later on if I can muster the energy to .... anyone else feeling super tired at the moment? My blooming stage is DEFINITELY over.

Your babyshower sounds fab mrsS and how thoughtful of your friends to do such a lovely twist on pass the parcel. I went to a friend's babyshower last weekend & there must be something in the water as 5 out of 8 of us were at various stages of pregnancy and another has just had her baby. It made fro some fantastic photo's! :)

It suddenly feels as if time has crept up on me and I cannot believe that there are only around 8 more Sundays of lie-in's left before its back to sleepless nights & changing nappies. I am SO excited & really cannot wait for this baby to arrive.

Much to DH's despair, I've been rather indulgent recently and since I have pretty much all I'll need for baby from DC 1&2, I feel justified. My most recent purchase is the most beautiful cot quilt from one of my all time fav shops I came across a few years ago when I was looking for some prints for the girls room. Don't tell DH, but I might be tempted by their wall stickers too. Wink Wink

I cannot remember who it was that were asking about changing mats & babies rolling off changing tables, but thought I'd recommend one of these. I just used to use mine on top of a normal chest of drawers & think they are brilliant.

Also, I was given a Slumber Bear just before DD2 was born & so wished I had it with DD1. It plays womb sounds & your scent on the bear (you are meant to sleep with it before baby is born) comforts your newborn. A great little luxury if you have a few pennies spare.

Anyway, just wanted to check in & make sure those suffering with piles are not feeling alone! BlushGrin I'll try & keep up this time, but not promising anything :)

CappuccinoCarrie · 15/06/2011 20:17

betty I have change bag envy, and I've bought three change bags in the life time of my two children....!
Nursery carpet being fitted tomorrow, wow!
Welcome root. The words you're looking for in your notes for placenta position are anterior (down the front so you're not likely to feel baby as much) or posterior (at the back). Mine is only mentioned on the print out they stick in from the first scan, but I could tell its posterior anyway from the sheer volume of movement!
Either my baby has very fast hiccups tonight, or its punching me with very accurate rhythm. Probably just enjoying the burst of sugar and caffeine from the dr peppers Blush
31 weeks tomorrow, need to remember to phone the surgery and make my 34 week appt, not that there's much point in going, I'm sure everything's fine, but its always nice to hear the heartbeat!
littlemiss you actually made me stop in my tracks with the '8 more sundays' comment. Feeling slightly overwhelmed but also so excited about meeting the baby. Its all getting a bit too real!

littlemisslozza · 15/06/2011 21:18

Well, I seem to have developed a most unwanted side effect of pregnancy that I have never had before, and seeing as this is my third and (most likely) last child it seems so annoying that it's happened now..... I am allergic to my horses!!!!!!! Sad It started a few weeks ago but I thought it was just hay fever, however I have had it whenever I've seen them this week, itchy eyes, runny nose, sneezing. My mum developed an allergy to horses and other animals, along with eczema when pregnant with me but as it hasn't happened before to me I thought I was ok. Just really hoping that it goes away after DC3 is born as it hasn't for my mum, she reacts to it even on my clothing Sad. Fingers crossed.

Re Take That (again), of course, I should have realised that some people would have bought tickets without expecting to be pregnant. We were trying for DC3 so bought seated tickets just in case.

I have also started a bit of a countdown of the weeks - as I'm having a planned CS I will know the date in a couple of weeks, eek!! Wish I could countdown lie-ins though littlemissw, no such thing in this house unfortunately (DH is a farmer) although the DC are going to my mum's overnight when we go to a wedding next month so I'll get one then Smile.

davidtennantsmistress · 15/06/2011 21:59

were stood with unreserved seating :( wonder if we'll be lucky to get seats if not could be a long night.

back from anti natal - by god it's scared the hell out of me - and i'm a second timer. why do they show you pictures why?!?

davidtennantsmistress · 15/06/2011 22:05

little miss - 8 more sundays, 8 more, is that all it is now, god how did this happen we're this far into things already?

cappy - hiccups are always cute I find (mostly anyhow) good to hear you're also giving the bump a sugar rush/getting them hyper.

Klou - hope you had fun

mrs s - wow 30 weeks, excellent news all around.
