I've heard really good things about Floradix, you can stir it into orange juice.

Floradix

I fainted at my 28 week check yesterday, I am a fainter normally but have been doing well recently so now fully expecting the low iron news in this set of bloods.

MrsVidic · 08/06/2011 18:09

littlemissloza I am totally with you on the new lease of life thing ( I got prescribed iron tablets 4 weeks ago and they have made the biggest difference) which sort of pisses me off as I've been saying I felt I had low iron all preg and in all tests I wasn't 'low' - i think their levels for low must be really low compared to my bodies 'normal' iyswim

yukana good news about the job, have you tried dried apricots and choc covered brazil nuts? They are both good sources apparently?

morning I keep getting bh's too especially when I'm active!

Well my sleeping was disrupted by a toddler last night who wanted to come to mummies bed and play Hmm at 1 am

I am seriously craving dairy- I had to go to bed last night as I was about to buy a cheese board and I want all the naughty stuff!

KLou111 · 08/06/2011 19:15

Yukana that is awful!!! I know they have to tell you worst case scenario and all that, but surely she should have told you to take the pills and suggested other things before going that far!!
Fingers crossed for your OH's job :)

I buy Barretts Vitamin C with Zinc chewy sweets, and take one of those daily. :) I shall also make sure to eat lots of fruit and will buy orange juice in the future.

I love dates, especially with natural yoghurts. Figs are good, too. Not a big fan of apricots, but I do like baked beans, watercress, and always choose cereal that contains iron. The bread I buy is 50% white and 50% wholemeal - (wholemeal heavy products can be nasty for my system sometimes) - do you think that is still okay?

Apparently the level of the other vitamins and minerals I'm getting is fine, it's just iron which is ridiculously low. I get palpitations when I walk up the stairs and I think this might be related to it. (Besides the fat I'm heavier and less fit whilst pregnant!)

I guess I'm just scared of leaving my new family, I don't want to leave my partner all alone and I want to be able to raise my child. My midwife should know I have an anxiety disorder (it should be on my records) and I believe I've discussed this with her before, (I try to be as open about my concerns as I can), so I'm not sure why she'd bring it up. I really don't want to be admitted to hospital though as that would make me uncomfortable 24/7 (previous eating disorder and agoraphobia, being around people I'm not comfortable with for long periods frightens me) and it would mean I wouldn't be able to see my partner. (Hospital is at least half an hour from where I live).

Thankfully though, midwife checked baby's position and she's not breech, I think she's head down actually. She's completely healthy.

Firawla · 08/06/2011 19:28

that seems a bit OTT of the midwife to start talking about u dying in labour!!! i hope you manage to find a way to keep your iron levels up though

i had an appointment with midwife today and everything seems okay but had my medication doubled for the diabetes because the amount ive been on so far has had no effect at all so far really, so hopefully with having double it will make a difference otherwise will probably end up on insulin.

bebemooneedsabreak · 08/06/2011 19:57

Only just managing to keep up with you guys but I noticed the iron stuff and wanted to put my 2cents in.

(my iron was down to 3 after last pregnancy -GP was like, how did you manage to walk into my office without fainting it was so bad)

I had to take 2 tablets a day also as well as eating meat (chicken, fish, beef, ham, whatever) twice a day. But what really helped was taking a vitamin C pill (one of the high strength ones) WITH the iron pill. Also do not drink coffee or have eggs or dairy near the time you're taking the iron as is hinders absorption apparently.

Hope yours goes back up quickly.

WinterLover · 08/06/2011 20:01

oopps just realised ive eaten a whole pack of jaffa cakes Hmm

konatsu · 08/06/2011 20:19

Yukana, I keep fingers crossed for the interview and the new place!
Re MW? it is quite odd and extreme what she told you! Do you have the chance to speak with an other doctor?
My humble suggestion is to keep taking iron tablets along with vitamin C (orange juice is also ok) and avoid milk or cheese during that time as calcium can interfere with iron. 2 tablets x day and if I guess right - as I?m taking as well now - for a total of 400mg is a a very good amount and it should put you back on track. Ask to check your iron level in a few weeks just in case.

Re Floradix, I took it from the beginning of my pregnancy but it does not work if you have your iron levels low. It might works to maintain your good iron level? If you check the quantity of iron in it (20ml recommended daily dose = 19,16mg of iron a day)? well it is ridiculous how low is compared to the tablets (400mg of ferrous sulphate = 130mg of iron a day).

Re palpitations, I had them too along with low iron level and I went for a heart check. Consultant told me they are not related. Palpitations are just a pregnancy status but if you are concerned ask for a heart check.

Morgan is here! She was born yesterday at 11:50 weighing 1.57kg or 3lbs, 7oz. She was breathing on her own after an hour and is stable in the NICU. I will update more soon but we are all fine :) Looking forward to being able to see her eyes and hold her for the first time. Thanks for all the support ladies.

littlemisslozza · 09/06/2011 07:48

Wow, congratulations wishwales! Sounds like a decent weight this early and so pleased to hear she is doing well. Take care, hope you enjoy a lovely cuddle with her very soon.

WinterLover · 09/06/2011 07:52

davidtennantsmistress · 09/06/2011 08:20

WOW wishing well done you and big congrats, fingers crossed for the little lady still.

for those asking about birth stories I won't tell you mine for DS as it's likely to put a lot off lol. but should you feel the urge the full account is here I warn you it's not good reading thou. lol.

DP's return date has gone back 6 days but still set for week after next - thank god! now my final paper has gone in with course work can catch up.

other than winter what's been happening here then? oh am currently loving the fact that clydie is having a party in my tummy constantly - poor lamb seems to have hic cups a lot now I know what they feel like Blush think it might be the fizzy pop. Blush oh and the diabetes tests things went well - I assume, a week later an haven't heard a jot so assume all is ok?!?

davidtennantsmistress · 09/06/2011 08:22

yuk - I was told my palpulations are due to the fact the baby's laying on my major blood vessle - little gremlin doesn't like it when i'm flat on my back or left side but ok on the right?! also ref the iron my doctor gave me pregnaday I think it was, I had it after the 12 week bloods, not sure if you can have it this late into the pg's but fingers crossed it's really worked for me. really don't envy you with having low iron.

LadyGoneGaga · 09/06/2011 08:30

Congratulations, Wishwales. And welcome to the world, Little Morgan Smile

WinterLover · 09/06/2011 08:31

davidtennantsmistress · 09/06/2011 08:36

KTisPG · 09/06/2011 08:42

I second DTM re raspberry leaf tea - its disgusting! Don't think I'll be bothering this time

WinterLover · 09/06/2011 08:46

Firawla · 09/06/2011 09:09

winter i quite like the taste of raspberry leaf tea its not so bad. from how many weeks can we take it, ive forgotten? is it 35 or something? i dont think you take it from 30?

WinterLover · 09/06/2011 09:14

Most websites are saying 32-34 weeks, starting off low doses then increasing from 35 weeks.

Just wondered if any of you 2nd timers had done it before Grin I like to research everything!!

MorningsMadness · 09/06/2011 09:24

Fantastic news Wishwales, congratulations!

Yukana so sorry you're still having an awful time, is there a support line you could call re the MW conversation, as seems extreme and thoughtless to scare you so much? Completely support the orange juice with iron tablets prompt.
