Our old thread ran out of space! The horror!

They've been about in NZ for years. Not poor possum though. Did you not read the bit at the bottom explaining about how the possum in NZ is a complete and utter pest that is killing all our wildlife? It's odd going to Australia and seeing the nasty things running around and being all protected and good. No idea why they popped into my head though. I'm tired and my thinking is a bit mental is my only excuse.

Am currently wondering what my chances of DS letting me go to sleep are. (hmm none, I'm lucky he's letting me hide on MN for the most part).

Hope everyone is having a better day today.

KateeTheBump · 09/06/2011 14:15

I did actually, I'm just a big softie tho Wink Are you Brit who lived in NZ or NZer who now lives here? Confused

KateeTheBump · 09/06/2011 14:21

Just to experiment: am sat at work with headphones on (one in my ear and one on bump, tucked under my top under the desk). Florence and the Machine produced no result, thought I would stick Queen's greatest hits on (having had squiglet dance his way through the documentary last week) - belly button now being kicked to death!

So does this mean I have to play Queen to him, or do you think he may not like it? Grin

Eskarina · 09/06/2011 14:28

I've just got my Mama Pack through the post. It's a bit like a bounty pack but with so-called ethical products. I was quite excited, and it is quite good, but as I had to pay £2.50 for p&p (pack was free) I don't think I got any more than I paid for, and the money off coupons aren't for things I'll use. However, a little excitement in the day must be good. More exciting was that I picked up my Huggies new mum pack from Sainsbury's yesterday. You have to have a nectar card and join their baby club, then the pack is free with any newborn nappies - so I spent £3ish on their nice looking organic ones and got the freebie supposedly worth £9.99. It's got a good changing mat in and some shower gel, hand gel and various other bits. I'm now plotting how I can get myself down to the boots in town to get my free change bag. [howsadamiemoticon]. I figure that even though I plan to use reusables, the first few days will be so much easier with disposables, and I can always give them away if I don't use them.

Nickel Do check that your tens machine is suitable for use in pg. I've seen lots in our local pharmacy that are sold for arthritis which say specifically they are not. Also check out when you're allowed to use them in pregnancy - I had a feeling you're not supposed to use them until near the end, although I don't know why. Sorry - that sounds really preachy Blush. Didn't mean to!

My friend has found some of her friends with SPD belts for me to try and she's posting them down to me today. She's also sending me her tens machine for when the time comes.

TTL I hope your builder returns soon and sorts out the mess he's left - isn't asbestos dangerous stuff to be lying around??

KateeTheBump · 09/06/2011 14:39

Where did you get the Mama Pack from Esk? The one I found was £1 then £3.95 postage! I've joined the Boots baby club, just need to join Tesco/Sainsburys ones too!

nickelbabe · 09/06/2011 14:40

that's alright, Esk - you're not being preachy!
It was the first thing I checked - the info leaflet that comes with it does specify labour pains as one of the uses. :)

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 09/06/2011 15:03

NZer who lives here. Which is why I want hot weather so that I can wear jandels Grin

Eskarina · 09/06/2011 15:40

Katee www.daisychainbaby.co.uk

vallinnapod · 09/06/2011 15:50

Mine too Katee not so much sore just itchy as hell (whole boob is really!)

Stop talking about AWOL builders - going to have to engage some soon and not looking forward to it

PMSL at the possum fur nip warmers! I am sure there was a rumour that a girl at uni was naturally like that... Wink

Esk I too have done ALL the baby club joining! They spent the next month unsubscribing from most of the newsletters!! I am off to Sainsburys at the w/e for my Huggies pack and Tesco to get my free pack of huggies (from Bounty) - I too will be using reusables but for the first week or so they recommend disposables as merconium stains and disposables are easier to manipulate around the cord stump. Thanks for the daisy chain link!

Not much here, bub super active so little less stressed, although woke up at 2am and couldn't get back to sleep. Snoozed a little on the sofa until 6am then gave in. Guess this is nature's prep (bitch!)

KateeTheBump · 09/06/2011 16:11

Thanks esk boy do they have some cute clothes! vallinna hide your credit/debit cards if you go and have a look Grin

takethatlady · 09/06/2011 17:11

OMG Shock at the nipple warmers Grin. Surely they're not a turn-on?? Confused Grin

Cute clothes on that website. If anyone checks my computer history they're going to wonder why I'm looking at furry nipple covers and baby clothes at the same time Grin

The builder is still awol! He took the asbestos, so that's alright, but he's left all his tools, loads of wood, a work bench, and the job half done! Really annoying as I bought loads of food to put out in the outhouse and now the only place for it is the bath. Weird having pasta, jars, biscuits, tins and containers out there (and probably not hygienic). Our bath is like a giant version of the shoeboxes you put together and send away from school at Christmas ....

vallinnapod · 09/06/2011 17:33

LOL katee was trying to justify spending £30 to get the goodie bag for free Blush

TTL similar stockpiling here the difference being I could probably open a relatively large sized Boots Store. May have possibly over done it on the maternity pads and have enough cotton wool to make a flock of sheep nervous!

Eskarina · 09/06/2011 21:06

Val I considered that before realising that DH would probably have a fit. He's been very accomodating about all the baby crap essentials I keep buying (no more comments since I cried at him for calling our baby "well accessorised" a few weeks back!)

My current dilemma is whether to buy a waterproof matress protector for our bed - I was reading about them on a thread on the pg board. Problem is that nice non-plasticky ones are reasonable expensive. But we have a really nice (expensive - my parents gave it to us as a wedding present!) memory foam mattress and I'd be gutted if my waters do go on it and we have to abandon it for want of £35.

I'm also possibly going slightly mad overboard in researching muslin cloths. How different can they all be? But then if there's no difference how come Mamas and Papas charge nearly £20 for a pack of 5 with gingerbread men on when Tesco direct are doing 12 for a fiver???
I'm thinking of getting my sewing machine out and making some like these Warning spend-a-holics DO NOT click on the link!! as I've found some cute hungry caterpillar fabric on ebay and I'm sure it can't be hard to do.
I think I'd quite like a VHC theme to our nursery (if Squig ever gets one that is, this SPD-like-thing has really put the dampners on what I can get done). I could make most things myself if I take mat leave now put my mind to it.

vallinnapod · 09/06/2011 22:38

Esk I have one, and it has been on the bed since about 16 weeks Blush My waters randomly going in bed or on the sofa is a real fear of mine! Was worried it wouldn't feel 'cosy' but to be honest I forget it's on now until I change the sheets. It's PVC but terry towelling topped so it's not crinkly if that makes sense! Was from good old John Lewis, about £40 I think (king size)

That fabric is awesome!! Good job I am so inept at anything craft like! I too wonder on the muslins. Settled with a 20 pack for £19.99 from MC and a 50 pack top and tail pack for nappy changes for £7 something. Oh, not counting the 4 swaddling muslins I got (which are soooooo preeeeeettty!) for....errr....£30

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 10/06/2011 05:32

Esk HippyChick do really good mattress protectors. We have one on DS's bed and will be getting a single one when we up size his bed.
Oh also if what you have is PGP. Pelvic Girdle Pain. I think technically that's what I have too as alot of my pain is in one of my butt cheeks (but not, hard to explain). It's a pain in the arse either way.

I really should stop looking at all you guy's links for cute expensive baby stuff.

Have woken up this morning with huge sausage fingers and sun streaming in the window. Bet by the time my alarm goes in 2 hours it'll be raining again.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 10/06/2011 05:33

That should read, Oh also what you have. Random if inserted there by sausage fingers.

takethatlady · 10/06/2011 07:54

Ooooh vallinna top and tail muslins? Swaddling muslins? Where did you get them?! All I have are a pack of 6 from Boots (£10) and a pack of 6 from Tesco's (also £6). Just normal ones. I clearly don't have a good enough range :)

The lady at our NCT class said she swears by Big Muzz Grin. I haven't had the guts to type that into Google yet, just in case the porn police arrive Grin

takethatlady · 10/06/2011 07:55

Link here

I braved it ...

Eskarina · 10/06/2011 08:09

COOAF I think that sounds like what I've got - a quite literal pain in the bum - pain just off the the left of my tailbone. The Physio called it Sacroilic joint incompetence. Any tips for managing it? My support belt should be arriving today or tomorrow.. Sorry for the sausage fingers and random waking. I was awake at 4.30 thismorning for about an hour. In fact, could do with going back to bed right now!

vallinna I'm willing to bet your swaddling muslins are the aden and anais muslins? I can't quite justify them...yet any more time off work and I won't be responsible for how carried away I get. But am getting tempted by pretty coloured ones. Thankfully I don't know if we're having a boy or girl so although I don't like the gender stereotype thing it does put a useful brake on irrational purchases.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 10/06/2011 08:14

The thing to remember about muslins. They mostly end up covered in vomit. Do you really want vomit on your fancy expensive pieces of cloth?

Managed to go back to sleep for a couple of hours. And it's not raining. Yay.

Esk treat PGP exactly the same as SPD.

Awww that baby on BigMuzz is sooooo cute.

KateeTheBump · 10/06/2011 08:54

I've got a couple of packs of these from Ikea so far, cheap and cheerful Grin

aStarInStrangeways · 10/06/2011 09:32

No mattress protector on our bed - we need a new mattress anyway, my waters breaking on the old one would be as good a prompt as any Grin

macaroonmum · 10/06/2011 09:47

argh! just spent aaagggeess catching up and now have to leave the house - will be back! Am finally on Mat leave so able to deal with more than one thread at a time Grin

vallinnapod · 10/06/2011 10:43

Yep Wink swaddling ones are Aden + Anais. Too gorgeous to pass....! V similar to Big Muzz, just patterned! LOL at covered in vom COAAF - I am in denial hoping that the baby doesn't puke in bed Smile

The other plain ones and top & tail ones (I think these are smaller, plus 25 white and 25 yellow) are from MC.

WFH this morning. Fitness First have opened a fab new gym 2 mins walk away, with a pool - just as we leave the 'hood! Went there, then came back and shaved my legs, slicing through my ankle...AGAIN! I have soaked through 2 plasters so far Confused It's my best friend's wedding tomorrow and can still just about paint my toes. For a teeny tiny bump it really does get in the way! Can't believe I am going to be at her wedding sober...! Tried on my IO dress which doesn't make me look too much like a glitter ball, very relieved to find my huge, unattractive bra fits with it too!

nickelbabe · 10/06/2011 11:24

my pain is in my pelvis - I think Isbn (that's what Chaos named the bump!) is pressing on my bowel, and somehow separating it, because I get this huge stabbing pain (both sides of where the bump is), that carries on for a day or so, then I poo (which is accompanied by huge stabbing pain), and then it's gone!
I first thought it was growing pains, but it's the fact it disappears after the poo that makes me believe it's a poo pain.
I don't like it.
(it's not disabilitating, just very, very annoying)

I'm steadfastly refusing to click on your links.

My big sis sent me a packet which I got today, which has some money-off vouchers, a booklet from her Mother and Baby magazine and a free huggies newborn nappy (just need some more people to send me some of those!)
There was also an article from the mag about the development of the foetus. Apparently, Vocal chords grow at 18 weeks. That's when little Isbn will become Isbn the Junior Chorister Grin
