Hello everyone, nice to see some more new babies on here Congratulations all!

I am very excited to be home for the first time today with Felicity Grin I just have to remember it's real, don't think I have had so many happy tears.

So my birth story; Sorry it's long one and stop reading now if you don't want the details but hope it will do me good to get it out!

I started having regular contractions and warts broke during induction, progress was slow but still progress. Had a drip to increase contractions which was very well controlled and not the dreadful instant pain experience I thought it would be.

Not dealing with the pain well in my back so after TENs, Gas and air then pethadine I asked for an epidural. Really glad I did as it helped me get back in control and I could still feel my contractions but just to breath through and still stand.

When it came to pushing they realised she was in a difficult position but hoping the she would turn but after an hour I was scanned and she was turning but into a worse position and I was so tired by this point we moved to theatre, vontouse didn't work, foreseps didn't work we where so close they had to push her back up before having the c-section.

Then it all gets a little hazy and I only know what I have been told, my body went into shock and I had to have a blood transfusion. Felicity had to be resuscitated and with low apgar scores taken to SCBU where she stayed for 3 days in an incubator.

I got to meet her on Saturday night which felt as if I was seeing someone else's baby. On Sunday I spent more time with her and DH and tried to bond which was difficult but the staff where amazing helping me to hand express for her so I felt like I was involved.

I can't believe that was nearly a week ago now and Felicity looks like a different baby with pink cheeks and a milk monster now breast feeding on demand Grin

When I can take my eyes off her I look forward to catching up with everyone. .

Baby2b · 03/06/2011 15:38

Proper sunshine here today, so the denim skirt and vest top combo are on. All I'm missing is a beer garden and a glass of White wine. Will make do with my balcony and a yazoo (random craving). Grin

Hope everyone is having a good day x

KateeHasABunInHerOven · 03/06/2011 15:47

Glad the bonding has been successful with your little felicity Cowboy, and thanks for sharing your story Smile had to Grin at the milk monster!

Baby2b · 03/06/2011 15:57

Cross posted. Thanks for sharing your story cowboy. Hope you are settling in well at home. :) Really pleased for you and like Katee smiled at the idea of a little milk monster. We should have an emoticon for that!

nickelbabe · 03/06/2011 15:59

ooh, cowboy that sounds like a nightmare :(
Glad you're both much better now, though.
Glad also that you're not having problems bonding.

We just had a couple of blokes in here trying to sell Paintballing sessions.
Obviously, I know I can't go, so I flat told them noone here was interested.

and now I desperately want to go paintballing!

KateeHasABunInHerOven · 03/06/2011 16:06

Paintballing hurts a lot apparently... haven't done it myself... too much of a wuss Grin

nickelbabe · 03/06/2011 16:11

i only want to do it because pregnant women aren't allowed.
:(

damn pregnancy! means I can't do anything fun that i never even considered doing before

aStarInStrangeways · 03/06/2011 18:57

cowboy great to hear from you, even more great that you are home with your gorgeous little girl :) So happy that you are getting to enjoy the start of the baby experience and that she's mad for your milk. Does she do that funny milk-drunk face when she's really full? Ah, I love that.

The birth does sound very hard though - make sure you talk it through with someone if you feel you need to, there should be provision to do this at the hospital (usually a senior mw, as I understand). It can take a while to process any kind of birth experience - I talked nonstop about mine for weeks and it was pretty straightforward - so be kind to yourself and make room for whatever you need to feel about it.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 03/06/2011 19:42

What a scarey start for you and Felicity, Cowboy. So pleased to hear you've over come it now and are enjoying your lovely little milk monster at home.

Star I know what you mean about talking about the birth non stop after. Like you DS was straight forward and I spent about an hour telling my sister about it over the phone on an international call. It was very cathartic though.

Got our moses basket today, so I'm now mentally prepared for Currant Bun to put in an apperance. Don't feel like it's going to happen for a while though, so shall just stick to swilling gaviscon and waddling like a hippo sized penguin for the now. Grin

Nickel if I see reports of some crazed pregnant lady breaking in to a theme park and going for a midnighht roller coaster ride, I'll know who it was Grin

B2B isn't this weather wonderful!! Just hope it sticks around.

BrassicaBabe · 03/06/2011 21:22

Wow cowboy! Sorry you had a difficult and scarey time. So glad though that you and Felicity are home and snuggling well! Smile

Oh and meant to say earlier, Envy for ttl and her TakeThat concert. That's all.

coaaf I think I'm now understanding the a-f aspect of your name Hmm When I get up from sitting it take me 5 mins to stop walking like I've crapped myself Sad

Dynababy · 03/06/2011 22:52

Cowboy glad your both well and bonded and feeding well... sounds very scary and difficult start. One of my friends was offered counselling as a result of something similar... she didn't think she needed to at the time but now thinking about it. Definately something to think about.

Weather is just perfect here and DH off to pub tonight so on my jack jones Sad ... not cos he is out just cos I want a cold one in a beer garden!!

B2B I made do with ice lolly on my balcony .. there aren't too many flats built in Edinburgh with balconies and they are all in the same part of town .. I'm wondering if you might be close by!!

Eskarina · 03/06/2011 22:53

Cowboy I'm so glad you're home and things are going well now. Thank you for sharing your birth story with us - and agree with whoever said earlier that it may help to talk it through with someone at the hospital at a later date - most hopsitals do offer a "debriefing" session for women who have experienced difficult labours.

On an entirely different scale, it seems I have sciatica. I've had increasing pain in my left hip for almost a week now. I can stand still, I can sit still, I can even walk at a reasonable pace (albeit limping and hobbling). I can't bend or put weight onto my left leg suddenly. In fact I can't do anything suddenly, be that speed up, slow down, stand or sit.
Went to see MW today incase it was SPD. She says not, but that baby is head down and good to go (eek! am only 29+3!!) and is likely pressing on a nerve...it's unlikely to move.
Upshot is that after ascertaining that our private medical insurance won't cover anything even vaguely related to pg Angry I'm going for private physio anyway (as, in the mw's words, I'd have had my baby before the NHS got around to doing anything!)
I spoke to the Head at school today (at home - it's half term) and she was really lovely and said that I should of course stay at home next week, at least until I've seen physio. Frustrating though, as I'm supposed to be putting my feet up and I've got way too much to do!

nickelbabe · 04/06/2011 10:52

thankfully, the weather here has gone slightly chilly (not cold, but not the stifling heat we had during the earlier part of the week)(it was very uncomfortable)
I'm enjoying the light breeze (read: almost-gales! Shock )

But mostly, I'm waiting for it to rain.

ooh, Esk that's nasty. My friend had sciatica and she found it very hard to move in the last few months of pregnancy (sorry :( )

nickelbabe · 04/06/2011 13:08

starting to panic about schools (Blush )
Our nearest Junior school is a "healthy school"

their prospectus says
"School Starts: 8.55am
Children enter class at this time.
Morning Break: 10.30 ? 10:45am
As a Healthy School, children are allowed to eat one of their 5 a day, namely a piece of fruit or vegetable at morning break. The School Council runs a Healthy Tuck Shop where pupils can purchase fruit at very reasonable prices.
Lunch: 12.15 - 1.15 pm
There is no afternoon break
Home time: 3.15 pm
Children are dismissed at 3.15pm."

I don't think it's such a good plan for a junior school child to go from 8:55 to 12:15 with nothing but a piece of fruit to eat!
I can't do that, and I'm a grown adult!
(surely it would be more sensible to let them eat something like a cracker with cheese on it??)
It's making me hungry just thinking about this!

Eskarina · 04/06/2011 13:37

Nickel you'll probably find that it's an almost universal policy in schools nowadays...all schools have to show that they are promoting healthy eating and somewhere along the line this has been translated into "only allow children to eat fruit and veg (then have a school dinner packed with cheese and carbs and v few nutrients!)"

I got my maternity PJ's from ebay today. Looking forward to a night properly clad without Bump revealed for all (ok, DH, the cat and a teddy!) to see!

takethatlady · 04/06/2011 13:39

Congratulations cowboy!! That sounds like a massive ordeal but I'm so glad that at the end of it everyone came out well :) I hope you have got lots of people to run around after you so you can just chill out and focus on you and your LO :)

nickel Shock Shock Shock. Now is not the time to worry about the meal plans of the local school Grin. Once you go down that road there's no turning back, I reckon, for things to begin to worry about. Anyway, I'm sure you can sneak a chocolate bar into your LO's back pocket Grin

Paintballing is lots of fun but it fucking hurts, btw. And if you do ever go, don't do it in high heels Blush

Nice dress esk, and impressive tit growth katee :) I went from a B to a D cup by 5 weeks and haven't grown since. Even the D is dubious, I think, since they still look pretty smallish to me. A woman at the TT concert got them out and flashed Robbie Williams, who had her put on the big screen, and she was able to lift each boob up and kiss it Grin Shock. Mine aren't really movable in that sort of a way!

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 04/06/2011 14:06

Oh Nickel stay away from the primary schools board! I've strayed over there a couple of time and nevver stay long.

nickelbabe · 04/06/2011 14:08
Blush Can I just say, in my defence, that I was looking at school websites to find details of the Music Coordinators so I could send them information about the choir. I just got sidetracked while I was doing it! Grin

My boobs haven't grown again, either, thank god. They're now at a steady size, with a steady full-of-leadness.

takethatlady · 04/06/2011 18:05

Yes nickel, whatever you say Wink Grin

aStarInStrangeways · 04/06/2011 20:27

Arf ttl, I can tell you saw Take That in Sunderland! Wink

cowboylover · 05/06/2011 20:52

Thanks everyone! I am having a catch up while DH is playing with DD, I love watching them together, couldn't be happier at the moment and can't imagine ever loving anything more in the world!

Esk owwww that sounds painful! I had SPD but glad its passed quickly but not sure if Siatica will do the same?

Paint balling hurts like hell and after one shot that didn't even hit straight on I hid for the next hour in the trees.

Nickel: Schools are scary but by the times our LO's will be there they may have changed the rules.

Star: is that a confession?? Grin

Shopping tip: get a vibrating chair\bouncer or some kind. I don't know if all babies like them but DD loves it

takethatlady · 06/06/2011 08:13

Awwww cowboy lovely to hear from you :) We bought a bouncer - yay! You've just reminded me about it actually - it's currently under our bed. I didn't realise you could use them straight away, so that's good. Great you're doing so well and enjoying it so much. I am Envy :)

Grin star. I'm from Margate. Pretty far from Sunderland but the tits-out scenario is pretty common there too Grin

Right. Gas man coming today and another man to change our woodworm-infested asbestos roof on our outhouse so we can turn it into a utility room. Plus I'm probably going to have a row with my mum, who has been calling about three times a day for the last week for no reason whatsoever (she usually 'forgets' what she rang for but still wants to talk for an hour). Yesterday I was really shattered and not feeling well after a day of going to the tip, shopping for the last baby things, clearing out the shed and building flatpacks, so we turned all the phones off, got a pizza and watched a film. This will probably provoke rage, especially since my brother's abroad for the summer and she can't always get through to him either ... eeek!

nickelbabe · 06/06/2011 10:39

don't talk to me about buildings today - I'm fuming because now it's finally raining - it has rained solidly since about 2 yesterday afternoon- I have found out that some fucking complete and utter bastard has stolen a mahooosive piece of lead from my shop roof.
My upstairs goes over the top of the next door's shop, which means that where the lead has exposed a fucking huge hole in the roof! it's pissing down into their shop.
The landlord sorts out the buildings insurance, but getting hold of her is like getting blood out of a stone.
AngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngry AngryAngryAngryAngry

takethatlady · 06/06/2011 11:58

Oh nickel I'm so :( and Angry on your behalf. What is wrong with people?! This is the last thing you need. I'll join you in buildings rage, if you don't mind. The fucking builder who we called when I was 28 weeks pregnant to replace our woodwormy/asbestos-filled leaking outhouse roof so that I can put a second fridge, a freezer, a tumble dryer and store dry food out there (our kitchen is 5 feet by 5 feet 4) has basically mugged us off for the last 9 weeks. He finally dropped off the materials on Friday and said he'd be round at 9am today to do the work.

It is five to twelve. No sign. No phonecall. Not answering his phone (as usual). I wanted to get everything organised - food in the freezer, jars of pasta, tins of beans, etc etc, so we can be prepared for when the baby arrives. I'm 37+1 today! The baby has tripled her weight and developed a fully-functioning brain in the time it's taken him to give us a quote and turn up to our house, which is about a two minute walk from his house!

So we have leakage too, all over all the new appliances ...

KateeHasABunInHerOven · 06/06/2011 12:09

Oh dear, poor you nickel and ttl

Can I add me throwing up my breakfast 5 minutes after I'd eaten it this morning? Not best pleased and still feel a bit ropey. Grrrr.
