Executive decision that at 987 posts we're moving over!

New challenge - can we fill up 1000 posts before the first babies arrive, given that we managed to keep our legs crossed all through the last one?!

First babies are due, officially, next month but are there any in such a hurry to see the world that they can beat our chatting?

Cycle Brilliant news! :o

LisMcA · 10/03/2011 12:03

Sorry last post for now, promise!!

Jaylar I need some Peebles local knowledge if you are lurking. I have my spa day next week and need a man creche for DH and friends DP while we are spa-ing! Can you think of anything they can do in the area that doesn't involve them getting drunk! So far all they've come up with is sitting it out in a pub. But considering the only reason they are coming is to taxi us about, only one of them will be drinking!

SarahJinx · 10/03/2011 12:11

Cycle brilliant news for you, especially if thats what you wanted.

Lisa you do make me laugh, a frozen sanitary pad!? Was it not a bit like having a brick in your knickers?! I get it though, I'm all a bit swollen and bruised too. Was it you with the frozen squash also....hmmmm!

I have a little rant now too - Heels: I am a shoe queen, I love love love a pair of heels and a bag. For the past 2 months I've downscaled to Kittens for work - Media company and I have a team of 30, I have to look like 'the boss' at the risk of sounding like a wanker - and am totally comfortable, no swollen feet, no bad back and I'm not stupid, of course I'd be wearing flats if I was even the slightest bit uncomfortable. Seriously though, my heels are an inch and a half max. Various older ladies have taken to really moaning at me for this, telling me I'll eff up my back and fall over and all sorts. Is anyone else still in their heels and getting ranted at?

Also, a friend of mine wore flip flops for her whole duration and her feet bones 'splayed' she is now two shoe sizes bigger than before...if that happens to me I'll be a size ten and a half and have to wear drag queen shoes...

architien · 10/03/2011 12:14

cycle wonderful news! I'm really happy for you. You'll be able to get your own music, in the pool much less chance of tearing. It's great news. Let your man know that doing it this way is much safer and will hopefully mean that you'll have much less recovery time...and to get that kitchen done already!

Lis I'm impressed with the inventive cold compress idea and I will keep it in mind if needed, let's face it we're all in the potential camp of needing to use a cold compress over the weeks to come.

I've been considering a new moses basket, last one was a hand-me-down and was just a basket with mattress, fine but I really want one with a more sturdy stand (with a curious toddler seems sensible) and I've got my eye on one which has fresh white broderie anglaise trimmings and hood.

Don't laugh but I've also been considering childbirthday dress. Last time I bought a lovely (huge) long Past Times nightie, but it all happened so fast that I gave birth in a long green jersey maxi dress with gold cardigan...not a spot on it and I can still wear it. This time I think given I'm hoping to go in the pool I think i need something shorter. So I've found a very short (just...I mean just skirts over bottom) royal blue jersey halter neck dress/vest same blue as the train on my wedding dress with a little diamond of sequins which looks similar to the brooch on my wedding dress. I'm thinking it'll make me feel better to think of the birthday as a celebration, even if i look awful I'll feel glam and modest and when baby is born the halter will let me feed in a hurry. Ok, I know a bit silly but we have to get our kicks where we can...

SarahJinx · 10/03/2011 12:30

Arch I love your post, love it. giving brith in a maxi dress is the hwight of glam but actually I was going to ask that, what does a girl wear to give birth in.....?

LisMcA · 10/03/2011 12:50

Glad I amuse you Sarah :o I'm the class clown! It was quite solid when it cam out the freezer, but I bashed it a bit with the rolling pin and it softened up. I wrapped it in a piece of cloth before placing in knickers as I was worried about it sticking, like when you lick a lampost on a cold day?? Alas, it wasn't me with the frozen squash. Nothing so exotic in my freezer, just batches of maternity pads.

Arch I never thought about buying a specific outfit to give birth in. So far I have a Snoopy nightie and some long length nursing vests. Now I've been ok'd for a waterbirth, what do you wear in there? Should I buy a bikini top?? Or just let them loose to the wind? Maybe I'll just wear the vest in the pool. Try and keep some of my modestyWink.

kittycatcat · 10/03/2011 13:14

Lis i asked the MW on Tue what to wear in the pool. She said whatever basically. Nightie, t, bra, bikini top, vest...nought!!

kittycatcat · 10/03/2011 13:19

PS i like these but not sure if it's uneccesary?? www.theprettycompany.com/shop/maternity-gowns/

NotAnotherNewNappy · 10/03/2011 13:24

Kits Good luck with the consultant later.

Cycle Fab news on your ?mode of delivery? Smile

Sarah Oh how I miss my stilettos?

Arch I?ve packed the same mat nightie I gave birth to DD1 in, I?m hoping it?s my lucky birthing nightie!

Lis Ooh for an ice cold maternity pad!

I think a vest is quite good if you?re planning to labour in the birth pool. Although, obviously, if you?re going on OBEM you?ll want to get down to Rigby and Pellar and kit yourself out in a stylish tankini top!

I am also trying to ?nest?. I jtold our cleaner where I kept the bleach and bathroom spray ? he seemed v surprised, I think he?s been cleaning the bath and the loo with washing up liquid for the past year Hmm . Sorry if that sounds poncey, we only have a little flat and we?re not loaded at all ? but when I went back to work I decided it was well worth hiring a cleaner, so that I could spend those extra couple of hours a week concentrating on my career. It has also done wonders for my marriage Grin

I am trying to edit the very last chapter of my novel today - but my brain is like jam. I am hoping I?ll be less stressy after our mode of delivery appt tomorrow morning. Also, I am so big I just can?t get comfortable anywhere and ? I might try sitting on my yoda ball with a frozen mat pad on later Grin

OMFG - I emailed my MIL to tell her about the pollyhydrowhatsit, and just got an email back saying ?I read on mumsnet?? My MIL is on mumsnet?! Shock

kittycatcat · 10/03/2011 13:29

OMG re MIL Notanother!!!!!!!!

sarah i am still in heels when i want to be. Knee high boots today! Tell em to eff off! ;) People do ask me when i will stop wearing them! When i am so swollen i cant get them on anymore!

lucielooo · 10/03/2011 13:33

waves to NANNs MIL

lucielooo · 10/03/2011 13:33

(knew I should have previewed that first!)

NotAnotherNewNappy · 10/03/2011 13:35

Exactly Kitty!

I'm not sure about those nighties, they look a bit fetishy...Wink

I'd spend the cash on some really nice nursing PJs instead. OTH in all my first pics with DD1 I do seem to be wearing a lovely lilac gown with "Property of the NHS" stamped all over it.

NotAnotherNewNappy · 10/03/2011 13:36

Don't encourage her lucie!!!

kittycatcat · 10/03/2011 13:41

Heheheh. Yeah maybe i will do that Notanother :)

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 10/03/2011 13:48

My MIL has told me it's traditonal to wear white to give birth. Cue me^ Hmm thinking of the bloodstains!

Loving your MIL's style notanother. Cue a quick namechange maybe?

Great news for mode of delivery cycle!

Those nighties look very hospital gownlike kitty but in interesting colours!

Oh and feck heels, flip-flops rock. If my feet splay I'll be over the moon as they're always too narrow for nice shoes!

OP posts:
LisMcA · 10/03/2011 13:50

Oh shit NotAnother I worry about being identified on here, not that I've said anything untrue, just don't want people knowing about my swollen bits!! I think I might namechange when Buster is here! It wouldn't be my MIL though, she can't use the remote!

Sarah Can't offer any heel advice, couldn't wear them before (flat feet, but didn't stop me trying), certainly can't wear them now. As long as you are conforatble and stable I can't see any issue. Old biddies should keep their noses out!

SarahJinx · 10/03/2011 14:11

Frakk splayed feet is one thing, drag queen shoes is a whole other ball game right! Or mens shoes....

Jaylar · 10/03/2011 14:35

LisMcA
I'm always lurking. Will ask other half what he thinks but am sure that drinking would appear at the top of his list. Is your fella sporty or into mountain biking because I'd definitely give Glentress a big thumbs up from novice to hardcore thrill seeker. Is it a weekday or weekend? Wd do private message thingy but on phone and can't work out how. Will come up with something more inspiring tonight and post.
It's a bloody hurricane down here too. Our gardenbench just flew past window.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 10/03/2011 14:39

I feel your pain SJ, I take an 8.

I have heard that wearing heels is more likely to give you splayed feet, but for all I know that may be an old wives tale.

If you feel comfortable in them, wear them.

I can't wait for the weather to get warmer so I can get my Birkenstocks out, that way I won't have to bend down to put my shoes on

notanohter - I think there's a topic on here called Gransnet, have a snoop and see if you can spot MIL Grin

I've got a maternity tankini which I will wear in the pool (well, just the top).

1stTimeMother · 10/03/2011 15:07

Sarah I also love heels and I just think if they're still comfortable and I can walk round in them, there's no problem. I admittedly don't live in them though and my job requires trainers not heels so slightly diff situation to you... but frankly everyone else's opinion can go jump...... each to their own!

I've got a halter neck bikini top in the hope that I'll make it into the pool and manage to maintain some dignity... (yet again revealing my 1st time mother naivety...).

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 10/03/2011 15:26

In terms of what to wear, I distinctly remember yelling at DH and the midwife 'get these fucking clothes off me!' because I got sooo hot. Grin
So I have just packed one of DH's big t-shirts and then bought nice pjs etc for afterwards.

I wish it was warm enough for flip flops, although then I would have to organise myself a pedicure - I can no longer reach my feet!

Cyclebump · 10/03/2011 16:16

Many thanks for the congrats, I am indeed pleased. I'm a bit nervous because vie never done it before but I really wanted to give it a go. I almost didn't want to explain my hip stuff to them in case it ruled it out but now I've got consultant approval I feel so much better.

I'm worried I'll overheat too so am thinking a vest top to labour in (now that I'm going to Smile). I reckon I'll want a supportive one as my boobs have gone to Defcon 5.

Have just spent the afternoon with a gorgeous baby who arrived in January. He was his mum's second and she said I was a natural as he was completely happy to have a cuddle, even hen she left the room. He's super smiley and so handsome. Yes, I think I'd like one of those please...

Cyclebump · 10/03/2011 16:17

Oops, his mum's third even.

lucielooo · 10/03/2011 16:51

Good news about your appointment cyclebump :) Must be a big relief to know one way or the other so you can start getting your head round it!
