Executive decision that at 987 posts we're moving over!

New challenge - can we fill up 1000 posts before the first babies arrive, given that we managed to keep our legs crossed all through the last one?!

First babies are due, officially, next month but are there any in such a hurry to see the world that they can beat our chatting?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
lucielooo · 08/03/2011 16:58

Agreed Lis - my NCT group have started meeting up (starts this week) and while it's really lovely to have some face to face people to talk babies with I have to remember that perhaps not in such detail as with the April MNers Grin

Petalouda · 08/03/2011 17:01

Frak, welcome to pathetic club, although you sound less pathetic and more like you have actual reasons for being upset.

I'm amazed you're even considering doing a research project whilst on mat leave. Can't you take leave from an MEd as well? Do I remember you saying your leave will be shorter than it would in the UK too? I'd try to get out of it! (but my dedication levels are rock bottom at the moment!)

DH has just rung to check on me - he pointed out that it's ok to feel tired, I'm growing a person, which is a bigger deal than mending a bone or something. Made me feel a lot better. And that's before you consider the hormones (which my body deals with by bursting into tears & sleeping!).

On the contraction front - I'm actually disappointed that the BH's have stopped since I got home (jinx, there's one now). I think I'll have to try work again tomorrow!

Petalouda · 08/03/2011 17:03

Sarah your sympathy made me cry a bit! Which basically sums up my issues today! I've only got to get to Friday. Wish I'd stopped 2 weeks ago.

Right, I have to finish these reports and stop wallowing here!

Cyclebump · 08/03/2011 17:24

Oh but Petal, it'll feel a,a zing when you finally do go off. Hang in there x x

SP I too am not having baby christened. My parents are religious but we iced to belong to a religion that believed only in adult baptism and I'm not baptised. The christening ceremony at my parents' church is about welcoming the baby into the church (C of E). I'd rather he made his own choice when he's old enough.

My weird pelvis, for whoever asked, is a result of a complicated case of congenital hip dysplasia. My right hip joint never formed properly and it was so severe that when they checked for clicky hips at birth there was nothing to click. The problem got spotted when I was about 18 months. They built me a joint out of bone grafts. It's bloody amazing when you think about it! Grin They need to check whether I can.. Ahem... Open my legs wide enough and check whether the internal pelvic cavity shape was affected.

Anyhoo, sorry for the long post but at least I'm proof that should anyone's baby be born with clicky hips it's something that can be remedied really well. My case was at the most severe end of the scale and I used to cycle around 100 miles a week!

SarahJinx · 08/03/2011 17:25

Petal seriously, have a good wallow, get in the bath and have a good old bawl. Arseholes to the reports for today, have a cry, a good old wail and give in to it a bit, not long to go now.

SarahJinx · 08/03/2011 17:26

PS Cycle it was me with the hip nosiness, it is indeed amazing!

JustKeepSwimming · 08/03/2011 18:10

Hello everyone & (hugs) to anyone who needs them.
Sometimes someone being kind to you actually makes it worse as you cry more!

Doc appt went fine, got prescription for anusol & he was very understanding & didn't make me feel extra embarrassed at all.
Now just have to find a chemist far far away to take it too...Blush

Had lots of tears yesterday as DS2 was poorly, he's much better today and we managed to get his chest x-ray done this morning no probs. He's on ABs for a chest infection & lots of his inhalers for asthma flare-ups so should be ok tonight.
DH came home (not meant to on a Mon) last night & sorted DS2 at 4am when he needed a bed change, pj change & nappy change (Calpol does bad things to his nappies!!) so that was a relief. Not back tonight or tomorrow night so fingers crossed DS2 behaves...

LisMcA · 08/03/2011 18:11

So happy news from me today. I had my consultants appointment. It went really well. I've been granted my water birth wish! And she said my BMI was deceiving because I am so short, she doen't see there being any problems with the birth. No constant monitoring either which is something else nasty midwife said I would probably need My new mantra is I'm not overweight I am under tall!! I know I'll need to lose weight once bubs is here, but it made me feel better after all the negatives I've had throughout from my nasty midwife about my weight!

Bring on the birth now!!

ecuse · 08/03/2011 18:21

Really pleased for you, Lis, yay!
I'm hoping for waterbirth too. I'm under-tall too(as noted on Facebook today Angry), but they don't seem to set BMI criteria for it where I am, as far as I've been told.

Liv77 · 08/03/2011 20:29

I havn't had the best day. Had a phone call at work to say DS had been taken to A&E with a head injury Shock. I went to get my coat and inform the powers that be and then promptly burst into tears, they were lovely and I had to reassure them several times that I was ok to drive myself.

Turns out he was playing on one of the scooters in the pre-school playground and had an argument with a concrete wall which resulted in an deep inch long cut on his forehead. Sad He's on the Calpol and was back at home this afternoon to help make the pancakes but i've told work i'm staying home with him tomorrow rather than sending him off to the in-laws.

Sorry to hear about your test stuffed.
caramello glad the potty training book came in handy, I too consinged it to the shelf for several months but it was handy to have something to quote from to the "oh my darling is trained brigade" at toddler group.
ecuse thanks for making me Grin, what a cheeky bitch (i'm assuming it was a woman that posted)

NotAnotherNewNappy · 08/03/2011 20:39

Oh Liv, that must have been awful. Did he have stitches?

Cyclebump · 08/03/2011 20:45

Ouch! Ooh Lis your poor DS!

I'm dreading that part of parenthood. I'm super clumsy and I just know any DC of mine will hurt themselves left, right and centre. I will probably burst into tears wailing at their first minor bump!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 08/03/2011 20:50

stuffed - oh no! :( At least you know why this time and feel ok-ish about it. You'll pass with flying colours once you aren't trying to drive with a beachball on your lap Wink

NotAnother - fingers crossed that your fluid levels go down. Are they planning to re-scan you at any point?

Lis that is really good news. I am also 'under-tall'! Grin

SP - I am right there with you in terms of the pelvis. I'm down at my parents today/tonight because I had my hair done (they look after DS). My hairdresser lives only a few hundred yards from their house, but it took me forever to waddle down there, and then after sitting still for an hour I was in so much pain and really didn't know if I'd make it back to the house!
It is so depressing to find a comfy position to sit in, only to find that it has wrecked my pelvis when I try and stand up again.

kits - it was me with the mucous plug - what happened with you sounds exactly the same. It was about a week ago that I lost the bit of mine, and I've not lost any more since.

Petal - don't feel pathetic, this last bit is horrid. I can't believe how much worse I feel than even 2/3 weeks ago. Not long to go now :)

Cycle - a lot of my appointments with the consultant have been essentially 'mode of delivery' appointments. I would imagine they will scan you, unless they have already decided section and there is nothing to discuss. If a VB is even being considered, then they will want to check position, size (if possible, very inaccurate this late on apparently), and also the position of your placenta to make sure it hasn't slipped down.

I've had tons of BHs today - I get loads when I am driving and it feels like the air is being squeezed out of my lungs at the same time which is bizarre and also a bit frightening when you are driving along the motorway!! I am so, so tired as well - I would pay a lot of money for just one good night's sleep right now!

Ladies who bought Pacapods - tell me about them. Which one have you got and what do you think of them? Has anyone had one with a previous baby?
I had a Storksak with DS which I still use, but it is knackered and I need something bigger because I can't get everything for DS and a baby in there.
I'm considering the Portland, because I can get all the DCs stuff in there plus bits for me.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 08/03/2011 20:51

Liv x-posts. Your poor DS! Hope he's ok in the morning, here have a Wine for you :)

Liv77 · 08/03/2011 21:34

Thanks ladies, I'm having a pancake and a Brew

Dr said it would have been 3/4 stitches in our day but they used the Liquiband glue instead.

I was expecting a little drama today with it being his first day at preschool nappy free. I guess DS decided that he was definately now a big boy so proceeded to bomb along the playground at top speed so he could fit in his first A&E visit too. Hmm I hope he doesn't make it a habit.

I'm quite relieved that I was at work TBH as I don't know how I would have felt if I'd actually seen it happen. He was patched up by the time I got to the hospital (DH got there just as DS was arriving as he works close by). They were keeping him in for observation as he was very quiet and withdrawn. The first thing he said to me was "mummy bumped head" but he perked up once I arrived Smile so they let us come home.

Now i've got to go and see if I can get the bloodstains out of DS's favourite hat.

caramellokoalalover · 09/03/2011 08:12

Aw liv your poor DS. What a day of milestones for him. I am dreading the first A&E visit. It feels like the more time that goes by the closer it is getting. DS is constantly bruised and cutting his lips open but so far nothing more serious. Can just see it happening the first time I venture out of the house with him and a new baby. Hope your DS is fine today.

And that your DS is better too JKS, you must be knackered!

Ali I wonder what the driving and BH/extreme wriggling is all about. This baby hates me driving for more than half hour or so. Sunday I did a 4hr drive and by the time I got home I was worried the baby was trying to work up enough momentum to push him/herself out. Eeek.

Excellent news re the water birth Lis!

Cyclebump · 09/03/2011 08:32

Thanks for the reassurance caramel, I just like to know what to expect. I'm going to it alone and want to be prepared!

I have a Pacapod. I have the teal satchel. It's not ladylike in the slightest but that's just me. I recommend checking eBay. I got mine for £50 brand new.

Fingers crossed more of the kitchen will get done today, they put the sockets in yesterday. I'm heading off to watch my sister play netball for the Royal Vetinary College to keep out of the way. She might miss the birth as she's off lambing for three weeks Sad Although I do think it's funny that she'll be helping little lambies be born while I too will be having a baby.

Cyclebump · 09/03/2011 08:33

Oops, it was Ali with the reassurance! Thanks chick!

kittycatcat · 09/03/2011 09:22

Morning all. I only turned my back for one evening ;)...

ecuse well done you on your fabulous response. What an utter bitch. How fecking rude!

Frak Hugs

lucieloo fingers crossed for your DP

Petal Bless your DH! Such the right thing to say :) Hugs

JKS hope the anusol helps.. and fast :)

Lis Whoop re water birth, thats fab.

Lis Ali and ecuse i too an uner tall :)and loving the phrase 'I'm not overweight I am under tall!!'

Liv oh your poor DS, is he ok today?

Ali i have the pacapod Napier but i really like the look of the portland. That was originally on my xmas list but i changed it to the Yummy Mummy hospital bag and it's too big for everyday use so i used a voucher for John Lewis and got the pacapod which i am much happier with. www.pacapod.com/shop/nappy-changing-bag-tote-napier?option=black

Kits how are you doing today??

I am ok. Had a run in with the inlaws yest. They told me something about my SIL / BM in confidence and said i shouldnt say anything. So i played dumb on a text convo with her to then get at text from FIL saying they had told her i knew. They made me look stupid and insensitive. I was fuming. Could have done without DH drunk lectures on my driving last night too. He is gonna have to learn to shut up or walk. Also hormonal and tearful here!!

Cyclebump · 09/03/2011 09:55

Kitty, I'm with you on DH shutting up or walking.

Many many many years ago my parents had a similar problem (he still does it now) and my mum said he should walk home if he was that worried. He said he would so she pulled over and he got out. She duly went home.

Four hours later he arrived home drenched to the bone having walked all the way. 'You left me!' was his cry. My mum pointed out he'd told her to.

He's never been as bad since and they've been married nearly 38 years!

kittycatcat · 09/03/2011 10:07

Love it cycle its getting tempting.

Just had some shit news. My mums had 3 awful years after the docs failed to diagnose chrones (sp) in time. She was due to have what will hopefully be her final op next week and the pre op last week showed MRSA so they have postponed it. She is obviously upset, as am i, and she is worried about not being well in time for kittens arrival :(

gormers · 09/03/2011 11:43

Stuffed - sorry to hear about your test, but kudos for even trying whilst so pregnant!

ecuse - loving your facebook reply - too right!!

frak -have a email hug from me (( )) Take it easy with work, I find myself resenting just how hard I'd worked whilst pregnant and my mind wandering off to 'did working too hard contribute?' world. You and little bubba are more important than work right now.x

liv77 - hoping all's ok with DS today, & I think being a bit emotional whilst you're in A&E with your child is more than understandable.

kitty - sorry to hear about your mum's news, hope that she can have all her treatment and be done with it as soon as able.

Have a lovely day everybody. ANy of you got snow? It's a beautiful day here on the South Coast, but I keep hearing of snow elsewhere!

LisMcA · 09/03/2011 11:57

Oh Kitty poor you and your mum. I have a friend with chrones, it's not nice to live with. ((hugs)) and Grr for your inlaws! Some people don't think!

Eek Cycle is your kitchen still a building site! My dad is coming down in the next couple of weeks to move some of my cupboards round to accomodate our huge fridge! Really should have had it done 2 years ago when we moved in, but kept putting it off. He tells me it's a days work at the most for him, but after that we DH needs to paint and get a new floor laid too! I also think we need a new cooker. The oven is quite tempremental just now. So it's either a new cooker or reusable nappies. Why does all the expense come at once?

TMI Alert Overnight my lady bits have swollen up, not the inside bits but the outside bits and they are chaffing. Apart from going knickerless I don't know what else to do. Suggestions on a postcard please!Wink

LisMcA · 09/03/2011 12:07

Oooh Gormers I have snow here (West Lothian), but it is quickly disappearing in the glorious sunshine!

NotAnotherNewNappy · 09/03/2011 13:38

Lis My sis used to wear her DH's boxer shorts when pg. Would this help?

Thanks to those of you who suggested getting another scan to see if the water disperses before the birth. I will def bring this up with MW.

I am in sole charge of DD1 today, can't spend too long on here as she is currently building herself a gymnastics course out of the coffee table and my yoda ball Shock Hugs to all of you, these last few weeks really are tough.
