Answered both my questions before I posed them Lyra !

I do hope you get it this time (probably much better that the one you bid for last time too so worth the wait!!)

Lyra the silver cross looks wonderful!! A real chariot Would have loved to have had one when we lived in London, but we had to keep our pram in the boot of the car cos there was no room in the flat. sob!

Promised myself that I would spend no time browsing this morning, as the house is empty & looks like a bomb has hit it... so I will order my 75cm ball (thanks for all the info!) and set to work.

Have a good day everyone xx

sweetkitty · 16/11/2005 17:40

hi thanks for the info I am registered for Boot parenting club so have sent them an e-mail!

Iris - your pool looks fab still can't decide whether to get one or not, we don't really have the space for it upstairs so it would have to go in the dining room, knowing my luck one of the cats would dive in it and burst it! Also with my last labour I honestly could not move off the bed so I don't know if I would actually get much use out of it although I do like the idea.

Lyra - had a nosy at your pram wow is looks huge, bet it will be so comfy for a January baby all snuggled up.

We still can't decide on a double pram, went and had a look on Sunday think it will probably be a Twin Aria.

Must be having a mad domestic moment have made soup and cakes today, just about to start the dinner, I'm having veggie bake thing with dumplings, think DD will have a fish finger and some veggies and potatoes and DP will have whatever when he gets in later.

iris66 · 16/11/2005 17:49

Snap Sweetkitty! I've just truffed a huge bowl of veggie bake all to myself. DD made her own earlier and has already gone out for the evening and DH wont be back until 10ish so will do his own too. Luckily it's not just me and the Milliehound tonight as I'm off out later to meet some friends!
Anyone else felt utterly wiped out today or is it just me?

OP posts:
Tickle · 16/11/2005 18:46

Also made a veggie dinner tonight - parsnip risotto from the River Cottage book. Really good, and didn't end up soggy at all, so maybe he knows your mum Georgie??

Tried out some mince pies today and the mincemeat worked well, so a few more tweaks then it's into mass production for a few days!

It was great to see that birthing pool via the link... looks so inviting, and much more reasonably priced than I had thought. You could keep it afterwards for the garden!

We watched pulp fiction last night for the first time in years... such a good movie Had Hotel Rwanda out on dvd last week and both dh & I were very affected by it. Having children... you can't help but imagine what you would do in an awful situation like that. ((shudder))

Off to do a bit more baking while smalls are in bed. See you later

Chuffed · 17/11/2005 09:42

Wow everybody is really chatty, so hard to keep up. Had 32wk appt today and baby has dropped from 2/5 to 3/5 so well down in my pelvis but all fine.
Not bothering pumping up our ball for this one as not worried about positioning as will push for c-sec after last birth.
Our boxes have finally arrived today so much stuff and nowhere to put it as at parents in law's place until our place is finished and we are really worried it won't be before the baby arrives now - aghhhhh

sweetkitty · 17/11/2005 10:05

Morning all hope you all had a good night, mine wasn't too bad DD woke at 6 but went back to sleep although her little sister then decided to wake, hard to fall asleep when your whole stomach is moving isn't it? Is it just me or do they seem to be moving a lot more these days, maybe it's lack of room.

Very cold here today so staying in the warm until my antenatal appointment this afternoon (must remember to wee in the bottles (I have 2 today) pregnancy is so dignified!!!

32 weeks today so in theory only 8 to go!

hunkermunker · 17/11/2005 10:37

Hiya - just a quickie - is anyone else's baby breech at the moment? Mine is - this pregnancy's been SO different from the last one! DS was head-down from ages ago, the only problem I had was heartburn (which I have this time round too - owww!). This time, gestational diabetes, breech baby, SPD, ho hum! Can't wait for January

Hope everyone's well xxx

iris66 · 17/11/2005 10:57

morning all - knackered again and woke up smelling gloss paint for some strange reason. Anyone else been smelling bizarre smells?

Sweetkitty - my LO has been waking me at 5ish for ages but I think that was because he was transverse - too much room!. He liked to kick/punch/stretch all at the same time which was very uncomfortable Thankfully, he seems to have moved head down as I'm now getting most movement at the top of my bump and what feels like fingers grappling in my groin. I only hope he doesn't stay back to back (as DD was) 'cos it didn't half hurt my back in labour.

Chuffed - are you having your house built? Good job it's fine weather over there - if you were still over here it would definately be delayed (frost everywhere here still!)

Aren't we all a healthy lot with our veggie food! - I've not been nesting much lately but hope that it'll kick in again soon as the house is becoming a shrine to piles of paper (and dust!!)I just can't be arsed at the mo. Will go & light a fire, make a cup of tea and slob for a while.

Hi there. DD icing biscuits in kitchen so thought I'd grab 10 mins to see how you all are.

Am feeling really ropey today. Sick, tired, bad acid reflux and generally weepy as hell. EVERYTHING annoying me. DH parents coming down for 4 bloody days in early Dec. They are lovely people but really just don't want to have to look after them and be all sociable. Moan, moan!

Tickle - glad the rissoto turned out well. Mum's recipe is something that has been refined over many years and orginiated from the need to use up left over veggies from Sunday lunch. It isn't proper italian risotto, but tastes damn good none-the-less! Am going to attempt Nigella's Gammon joint cooked in Coca Cola plus sweetcorn pudding on Sat!

Only got another 3 or 4 weeks to go until stitch comes out. Can't bloody wait. Am going to place OB in strangle hold until he takes the damn thing out.

As we all know, you' don't piss a pregnant woman off and live to tell the tale!

Sounds as if everyone is fine and dandy, just counting the days until our wee ones make an appearance.

And of course I'd love to volunteer to arrange a meet up. Maybe this time next year? I used to work in PR so have many years of arranging parties under my belt!

Right, better go and see what DD has done to the kitchen.

And I tihnk all this talk of veggie bake has given me a great idea for lunch!!!

Serene thoughts to all

G xx

sweetkitty · 17/11/2005 12:38

hi just grabbing quick sandwich (of course everything has to be shared with DD as even if I make her one she has to share mine) and drinking loads of water as still haven't done the wee samples.

Deciding whether to drive or walk to the health centre, it's not far and it's a nice day and then I can wheel DD in and keep her contained as she's mad free range.

Afraid Hunkermunker I got an upside down one. I think they can turn around until quite late so don't worry too much. Loads of scrubbing the kitchen floor and being on hands and knees for you then

Georgie - I know how you feel re: acid reflux someone gave me some Rennie Rapeze they are tablets and fruit flavoured so not chalky, they aren't as good as Gaviscon but are OK for out and about.

Nearly castrated DP last night, I had made soup, fairy cakes, his dinner, picked him up at 7pm from the train station, doen the kitchen, living room, bathrooms, looked after DD all day you know the usual and he had a right go at me for not leaving bread out the freezer for his sandwiches. One thing I forgot to do, I don't think he will pick me up on it again though don't know what I'll do when I don't have the "hormones" excuse!

Tickle · 17/11/2005 13:21

Mine is also head up at the mo - not something I have knowingly experienced before - pretty sure the others were well down by this stage. Got a simultaneous kick & punch last night that doubled me over in the kitchen, and I pointed out the protruding elbow to dh - he was suitably impressed and will now take my involuntary oohs & aahs a bit more seriously methinks

Poor you Chuffed - sounds like a bit of a pickle. All your things tantalisingly close, but you can't unpack them Hope it sorts out soon.

Exercise ball arrived in post today - only ordered it yesterday am! Super speedy, so now I have to get up in the attic cos we've got an electric pump up there somewhere. Will need my thermals tho, as it's freezing up there.

Sympathise Georgie with IL visit - luckily dh's parents live in the same village now, so we only have them over for dinner/tea etc, and they are fab with the kids. Much nicer than enforced sociability for days on end. Use your bump as an excuse to sneak off for a few 'rests' each day

Ended up with ds and dd2 in our bed last night, so the headcount was 5 by about 5.30! not much sleep (yawn)

lyra41 · 17/11/2005 18:41

Hey y'all

Grand to have so many posts to read.

I've had a lovely day today - last day of the working week, which always works for me, plus asked at work to finish in 2 weeks, not 4, to which they agreed with relief methinks. The boss also asked me to stop seeing children from now on, which means just paperwork and cutting and sticking type stuff, preparing materials for the other therapists and teachers etc. I'm quite glad really, as children with ASD can be quite unpredictable and aggressive at times. So I feel like I'm definitely on the wind down to mat leave, and very good it feels too.

Then when I got home from work, dh arrived back from the village with a HUGE and very posh bunch of flowers! It's very unusual for him, so I feel very pampered and cherished, which is lovely.

Btw, the belly bra is making quite a difference to the painful bump situation at the end of each day, I recommend them.

Tickle hope your birth ball helps you feel more comfortable.

Georgie

Sorry to hear you're feeling grot today, hope you have a good night's sleep and have a better day tomorrow. Very impressed with your cooking plans - let us know how it goes. I've fancied making that gammon recipe too, but not got round to it yet.

Chuffed · 18/11/2005 05:25

Sorry another head down here. HM but this pregnancy has been quite different too in general. Movements are very strong, visible to inlaws across lounge through t-shirt.
We are renovating our existing house that has been rented for the past 5 years. The scary thing is the more you do the more you find you have to do as things weren't done right the first time.
I am finding things so frustrating, I cannot find a square/rectangle lidded bucket for my washable nappies to go into the bathroom can't find any bedside type cots at all for sale here, finding the stock soooo limiting after being spoilt in UK. Everyone is going to get sick of me moaning and winging soon.

lyra41 · 18/11/2005 08:02

Chuffed

why do u want a sqare bucket rather than a round one for the nappies? I'm interested as I'm considering using the washables too. RE. the bedside cot thing, I was looking in the Ikea catalogue, and all their cots seem to adjust to only 2 levels, so I'm not sure they'd be suitable as bedside ones.

It's such a thick frost here today - looks wonderful, but doesn't inspire me for going out.
I'm off on a bit of an expedition to get a travel system, have to drive to Derby, about 2 hrs I think. It better be good, and I just hope hope hope it fits in the boot, otherwise a wasted journey.

The decorator's coming ova this pm to give a quote for the baby's room, we've not used him before, but he's supposed to be very cheap, so hope that goes well too. I'm thinking we'll have it magnolia with pale blue gloss work - very plain and calming.

Is everyone planning to keep the baby in their bedroom till 6 months as recommended these days? I'm going to play it by ear I think, I can remember a stage when the babe's sleeping through, but keeping you awake because of all his little snuffly noises etc. When that happens, it may be time for him to go into his own room, whether he's 6 months or not.

sweetkitty · 18/11/2005 08:28

Morning all another cold and frosty one here too, have to go out in a bit too.

I use a normal bin for my nappies, we keep it in the downstairs toilet so DD never gets near it. Makes the toilet smell a bit fragrant at time though. Chuffed - maybe try some cheapie type shops for a normal bin you can use the nappy bins seem so small in comparison.

Lyra - Good luck with the travel system word of warning though, we got a Graco Quattro for DD it's a lovely pram and did fit in the boot of our Clio but only just and you had to take the parcel shelf out and it took up the whole boot. The car seat bit was good though am using it for this baby too. I got a Maclaren Techno XT when DD was 3 months old and it's great.

Georgie - hope you are feeling better today. We're on the home stretch now.

Antenatal appointment went well. We talked about the delivery and she told to stay off my back for as long as I can this time. I'm going to make 2 birthplans a hospital and home one just in case. Babe is still lying head down to the right but is back to back right now. She showed me exercises to encourage them to turn but I'm not too worried it's still early.

sweetkitty · 18/11/2005 08:31

Sorry forgot to add our plan is to keep the baby in our room for the first year (DD was in with us for 14 months). I think it's much easier for breastfeeding. I'm so lazy much easier to feed lying down in bed with baby then going back to sleep straight afterwards (or during if your me). Although with DD this may be more difficult this time.

Mumfun · 18/11/2005 08:52

Hi

Fab messages.

Just a few answers.

My babe is head down but back to back - I tried everything and I mean everything to get DS to turn to the right position but he wouldnt so am not going to try too hard this time. AM doing a good lot of knee work ie on floors etc so will get every chance.

We bought an E3 explorer in the end on Sat - still in box - DH and I always liked it better than any other and at the moment I just couldnt face hard to manouevre pushchairs so just bought that one. Also DS quite a big boy so some to fthe side to side are too narrow ie Aria. ALso bought 2 car seats - so very expensive Saturday.

WIll keep baby in room till at least 4 months I think - moved DS into own room at 5 months and all of us slept better so think it may be 4 months for this one.

DOing pretty well on the sleeping/discomfort stakes - not as big as I feared I would be early on. Only bad thing is that varicose veins have now spread to groin - wondered why I was uncomfy there!

WOnt feel ready for baby till after Xmas I think - everything is geared up for that and thinking about DS birthday, Xmas and then baby. If it came early would be a big shock.

Take care all

Rachey1969 · 18/11/2005 10:26

Hi everyone, lovely to read all the posts, we are hectic here - karate grading, gym competitions, rugby matches, decorating and yesterday the school xmas fete (nov 17!). Had to buy cakes in M&S at 8pm the night before and then buy them back again yesterday! Today is children in need so more costumes for school...phew! DS2 is a squirrel in this year's concert - help! I fear we will only get busier.

Today after aquanatal at 11.30 (can't wait for a chance to relax) I meeting a friend for lunch, taking dp to work, picking kids up from school to see Harry Potter and then off to a scout award ceremony... prob b home bout 10! Not sure where work fits in to all this...!

I'm with Lyra on the sleeping arrangements, it is easier to breastfeed with the bedside cot in the early days, but once he starts sleeping through (4/5months?)I usually feel it's time to put him in another room so we can all sleep better. We'll see how we go - things are going to be very different this time.

I cannot believe how much he is moving - v similar to ds2 but perhaps more so and I hope he will be more content than ds2 was as a newborn. Maybe it's just the giraffe legs he gets from his daddy! He is head down, mw reckons but goes from side to side a lot and maybe back t back sometimes. I'm not sure there's much you can do about it, ds2 swiveled from anterior to posterior during labour but I did have to get on all fours (while being prepped for a c section!) to push him out.

Hope everyone is feeling better today! This baby will be here by hoook or by crook in 2 months!!!

ange8179 · 18/11/2005 10:55

Hi all,

Thought I'd take up your invitation to join you on another thread . I wondered if any of you have used the Britax Excel travel system? Things have changed so much since I had my DS almost 8 years ago. I feel like a first time mum again!! In fact, I'm sure I'm more nervous second time around. Perhaps I'm remembering more than I thought .

Anyway, must dash but I really would appreciate any feedback on the travel system.

Ange

Rachey1969 · 18/11/2005 11:01

Hi Ange and welcome! Have you put your stats on our 'due in Jan' thread? I know exactly what you mean about being more nervous 2nd time round, this is my 4th time round (last time being 7 yrs ago) and I think the problem is that we know exactly what we are letting ourselves in for! Triumph of hope over experience.. Seriously though, you'll be fine, it's like riding a bike!

iris66 · 18/11/2005 16:23

Hi all - brrrrrrrrrrrrr isn't it cold!!! Have spent every minute not working wrapped around my ball in front of the fire today. I can't believe nothing's defrosted outside either!

Ange - welcome! - can't help on the travel system I'm afraid (DD was a Maclaren baby - eons ago - & we've gone Silver Cross this time)

Sweetkitty - what exercises have you been given to shift the baby? Am really wishing this one would keep still/sleep for a bit or even get his paws out of my groin at the mo! Any tips would be great.

Lyra - congrats on the early countdown to mat leave! I'm planning on 16th Dec being my last working day & can't wait. Hope you got your travel system ok today and love the sound of your nursery. I would never think to have coloured woodwork - what a lovely way to add a splash of colour into the room!

As far as keeping the baby in our room goes I think it'll be until he's down to one feed a night - no idea how long it'll take but don't want him disturbing DD too much through her AS levels so probably beyond 6 months.

Anyone else looking forward to children in need tonight? I'll be armed with a big box of tissues as it always makes me cry. Some friends are going to a big concert at Brize Norton near Oxford (don't know how they managed to scam the tickets but I'm dead jealous!)

I'm braving the shops to get some last minute prezzies tomorrow morning then meeting up with DH for lunch - I think it's going to be a "wrap up really warm" day again too so not quite the fun jaunt I was hoping for. Hope you all have wonderful weekends. Iris x

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 18/11/2005 17:07

Iris - basically the exercises were get on hands and knees have hips lower than shoulders and also rock you pelvis from side to side if standing. Being on the exercise ball is supposed to help too.

Absolutely freezing here today too, don't think the heatings been off.

lyra41 · 18/11/2005 20:04

Got back with my travel system at last. What a full on day, so much driving. And the pram JUST fit in the boot - phew! Also got lots of gorgeous cute babygro's etc. from my friend, so it's been quite a baby day all in all. I was so knackered when I got home I got straight into a warm bath, and then bed, and dh had to make the tea and tidy stack the dishwasher from breakfast when he got home from work! My pram is in the car at the moment, and I want to bring it in to play with it, but it's freezing outside, and i'm in my PJ's.

We're all tuned into Children in Need over here, all good fun so far, but I'm hopelessly tearful and emotional when they show where the money's going.

Rachey

Hope you enjoy HP tonite, we're going tomorrow, can't wait.

Iris

I just have one word to say about your Saturday shopping trip planned for tomorrow - MADNESS! I did it last week and it was so horrendously busy. Just make sure you go very early.

Welcome Ange

Looking forward to getting to know you better.

sweetkitty · 19/11/2005 11:14

Another freezing day here today

Had an upset stomach last night started getting pains in my stomach about 3pm was a bit worried as didn't know if it was the baby or not but anyway a trip to the loo soon revealed it was a tummy bug. Not very pleasant but relieved! Spent the night on the sofa with DP being my servant and watching "War of the Worlds" not that great to be honest, we have "Descent" for tonight another DP horror movie! That and a take away from the chinese will be my Saturday night.
