Hi everyone,
Enjoyed catching up on everyone's updates. Not been on for a while as not had broadband as moved! Hard and tiring week getting moved and it's only into rental for at most 6 months so now need to find a house to buy!!! I must be mad. Grin

Now 28 weeks so into the 3rd trimester which seems a really landmark point. Had a scan on Wednesday as have to have one every 4 weeks from now on (Docs orders) - got a fairly miserable sonographer - I wish they'd just smile a bit more. Anyway read my notes when I got home and discovered I've got a succenturiate lobe! Looked this up and it's to do with the placenta but checked with hosp and shouldn't impact on pregnancy or birth so that's good. Got my mw appt on Monday.

Seem to be getting a lot bigger now - everyone at work commenting on how much bump has grown in last 2 weeks. Still struggling to get comfortable to sleep and finding my legs are aching a lot now.

Starting to get slightly scarey now thinking about things like hospital bags etc. Made the mistake of watching OBEM and was totally horrified by the screaming woman! Although I'm assured by friends who have already had babies it's not always like that thank goodness.

Anyway that's my update for the time being. Back to flopping on settee watching tv.

Smile

Wow. I am new to this thread. Can't believe I haven't seen this before. Been visiting mumsnet for a couple of months.

I marked 29wk today. Feel a bit weird to know I am the last stage of the pregnancy. It seems like all I do now is shopping and more shopping. When it came to comparing the prices of muslin sq, I thought sod it. Just get a pack then I can add one more tick on my buy list.

Very good to share experiences and thoughts together! Tonight I make nice big hot coco and read all the message here Smile

Nice to meet you all!

SaltedPretzels · 16/01/2011 15:00

Sassy Good timing with our moving Grin I'm house hunting at the moment too so if the right house comes up, I'm calling in the movers!

OBEM is fantastic to give an insight into the workings and procedures of a hospital and watching the births is nice even viewed through a waterfall of tears however, don't take any notice as until you give birth you can't guess what you'll be like, each birth including your own additional children can be so different, it's not worth stressing about. I broke my knee (lots more than that, but you'd go green if I went into detail) anyway I know the pain of a bad break is far far FAR worse than labour so that's a bonus thought lol Grin.

I'm 28 weeks on Tuesday and I too can see and have been told how much bigger I've become in the last two weeks, I'm loving the cute, football shaped bump I've only had kidney bean shaped ones before, so hipsters and showing it off at every opportunity [smile)

I'm sat in a pub, just had chicken, mash and gravy for lunch (yummy). I'm at the foot of England's highest mountain Scafell Pike and can't believe how great my new dongle is, amazing!

SaltedPretzels · 16/01/2011 15:26

That should have been good timing with your moving but I knocked the cursor when typing WELL........to be honest Blush my massive boobs brushed over the keyboard lol

I skim read it first time but can't believe you've moved into temporary house lol, you must be feeling the back ache now! x

sparklingsky · 17/01/2011 13:45

Am getting really EXCITED now...picked pink paint and white wallpaper with pink butterflies on it. Being given white cot etc Can't wait to get nursery decorated. It will make up for all the other discomfort and make it all seem a bit more real.

Feeling guilty too - bought a fab secondhand leather lin and leo change bag on ebay. Would NEVER have bought it new, or probably spent that much secondhand - must have been an hormonal thing. But very happy with my purchases la la la la la (enjoying bubble moment emoticon)

Cyclebump · 17/01/2011 14:02

Hurrah for purchase excitement. I'm so having to rein it in at the moment. It's excruciating!

I substituted by doing a mass move around in the bedroom of all our stuff to make room for cot etc.I also sadly vacuum packed all the clothes I am no way in hell going to get into for the next few months to make room for my maternity and post-birth clothes. Also I don't want to look at them while all fat!

DP is going out on Saturday night and I just might get the pram and changing bag out of the cat-proof cupboard and have a little play with them...

SarahJinx · 17/01/2011 14:13

Hi

I've not posted for ages, but love to read you ladies chatting in my lunch hour! Just wanted to know, does anyone else keep getting numb bum cheeks?!

Please tell me you do, what is it, just the effects of my huge great weight on my poor old ass?

I'm also buying loads, but also spending an awful amount of time getting overwelmed in Kiddicare/mothercare because I feel so ignorant about what I actually need, and what makes a good breastpump and what bedding etc....picking stuff up, putting it back - a lot!

As for sleep, I'm in the four to five wees per night gang, and can't seem to get comfortable. Other than that, my best purchase so far has been my Carriwell Maternity support band, it's the ugliest thing you ever saw - like a big girdle or old lady bra for your bump - but I was getting horrid ligament pain, plus low back ache and pelvic pressure and it's totally stopped since wearing a band in the daytime.

Thats my toppest tip so far, I don;t know much since am a fisrt timer but hoping someone might benefit as much as I have.

Good luck to you ladies, keep chatting, you make for a brilliant read!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 17/01/2011 16:47

Welcome to the thread Mondays, come and chat and tell us about your retail therapy too Grin

SarahJinx - I know exactly what you mean about picking things up and putting them down again, non the wiser and rather overwhelmed! Do you live near the big Kiddicare warehouse? We went there when expecting ds2. The place is massive, but THE place to go, especially when choosing the pram as the range they have is great.

My tips if you're weeing a lot in the night:

  1. Don't drink after 8.30, especially not drinks that you know make you wee (for me it's tea)
  2. When you go to the loo, rock back and forth to you really empty your bladder.

Lol at cyclebumps furtive looking at the precious things while her dp is out Grin I remember doing that when the nursery was all painted and ready to go when I was heavily pg. I used to open the door and just walk around it in fear wonder.

SarahJinx · 17/01/2011 16:54

My work is like 5 minutes away from the showrom, I haven't yet given in to spending my lunch hours there because it scares me a bit - we got pram - Quinny Buzz etc - and furniture plus other probably non essential stuff there just after xmas though, it is amazing.

My fella got me a gorgeous dutailer rocking chair for the nursery, so I'm the same, go in there, sit and look at stuff and try to imagine it with an actual baby in it!!

Thanks for tips, not drinking is fine, but I'm finding myself really thirsty and super hungry too at the moment, will try it though x

GoldFrakkincenseAndMyrrh · 17/01/2011 16:57

Sarahjinx I get that. And the numbness radiates all down my left leg if I'm not careful!

I have a secret stash of baby things too. And I did a mini-shop online at Mothercare today. Top/tail muslin squares (hoping these will make good reusable nappy wipes), nappy nippas, 3 sleepsuits etc. Just little things really....

Now. Question. Or recommendation request rather! Bibs. Any ideas where you can get effective bibs which don't have a nasty plastic backing?!

OP posts:
GoldFrakkincenseAndMyrrh · 17/01/2011 16:58

Oooh which Dutailier did you get? I'm trying to persuade myself the cost of shipping is worth it....

OP posts:
SarahJinx · 17/01/2011 17:33

GoldFrakkincenseAndMyrrh think it's called Penny - in white wood, it's a beauty.

I also get the numb, pins and needles thing in my right leg unless I'm laying down, it's miserable.

Petalouda · 17/01/2011 18:15

Afternoon!

Glad I'm not the only one who visits the nursery for no apparent reason! And I'm having to stop myself from washing baby bits just yet too! I've got a whole week of exciting hand washing planned for half-term (pram/pushchair covers & cosytoes'!)

Sarahjinx I don't think I've been having discomfort as bad as you, but I've finally discovered a way to be comfortable in bed. I've folded up a spare duvet and put it under the sheet, just enough give to let my hip & shoulder sink in, and support my belly. I wasn't getting on with pillows. I've even found I can tip forward almost onto my front with the added squishyness. It's amazing! I've slept brilliantly for about a week now! (if I don't include the thrush, hunger/bloating & weeing!)

I've just had my letter from the council confirming my mat leave and reminding me to tell my manager so that they can do a risk assessment (as if I didn't tell them waaaay back in september!). Exciting times!

Haven't brought any work home tonight so it's guilt-free sofa & choc biscuits time! Lush!

SaltedPretzels · 17/01/2011 18:21

Frakk

Can get better than Tommee Tippee milk bibs IMO. They have a padded, rounded neckline to soak up dribbles before they get to baby's neck with a velcro snug fit.

I hate that horrible sticky feeling on baby's neck from where the dribbled milk finds it's way into baby's neck folds and it smells once it's been warmed up under the chin, like cheese yuck, puk smelling it virtually again and throwing up!

The worse bibs are the small square, plastic backed nes with string strap ties also know as cheap lol They don't stay put, milk runs off them onto clothes (defeating the object of having them) and they rub baby's skin.

SaltedPretzels · 17/01/2011 18:22

lol That's Can't get better than Tommee Tippee lol.

caramellokoalalover · 17/01/2011 18:26

Frakk muslins always double well as bibs too...but not so fun to shop for!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 17/01/2011 19:57

I've not had dribblers/pukers, so I've never had to use bibs

Cyclebump · 17/01/2011 20:29

Thank goodness, another two-hour commute because of train delays and DP had dinner on when I walked through the door Smile

He never normally cooks as it's my job and I'm picky about how things are done so it's more of an effort for him than me. What a star, he's really stepped up while I've been pg, swoon.

nitnat84 · 17/01/2011 20:43

Hi all, hope you are well. Im getting so exhausted now and baby is in my lungs most of the time. Want to finish work now but working till 35 weeks :(
Looking forward to One Born Every Minute tonight!?

BeetleBaby · 17/01/2011 21:17

Bleeeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuuggggh...it's been one of those days! I feel like I'm massive (I know I'm not, just feel like it) Sad

Meh! Sorry to moan, I'm just in a very moan inducing mood today!

I'm planning on getting lots of muslins to use a bibs, extra padding in nappies, general mopping up but did pick up a pack of bibs (I think they were in Asda) as I figured keeping a couple in the nappy bag will probably come in useful at some point. Plus I'm sure I remember my parents using the plastic backed ones as temporary coasters when my sister grew out of them. Everything has it's use eventually! Grin

Petalouda · 17/01/2011 21:21

Hey, anyone around to discuss OBEM?

Nice to see a bit of a glamorous labour thanks to Lydia!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 17/01/2011 21:32

Lydia's dd's birth was beautiful wasn't it?

Watching it makes me really broody and I can't wait to give birth again.

Didn't Lydia have fantastic boobs? < yes I do realise how odd that comment is>

Petalouda · 17/01/2011 21:37

not odd, they were amazing!

Last mw appointment I had there was a lady that looked remarkably similar to Lydia. Unreasonably glamorous 24 hours after giving birth!

Petalouda · 17/01/2011 21:56

ooh, sympathy braxton-hicks! And I need a wee, that's not nice!

That lady made it look pretty easy too! What's going on this week?!

Liv77 · 17/01/2011 23:47

Oh yes the Tommee Tippee milk bibs are excellent, which reminds me I must get some more for this time around. I still have them somewhere but have probably worn out the velcro on them. I used their bottles as well. DS suffered badly from reflux and the TT breastflow bottles helped reduce it compared to the Avent bottles I started off with.

I still use muslins now to tie under DS's chin when we brush his teeth to save his PJ's getting completely soaked - he likes to "help"

Have been out this evening with my mum at her toddler group's "Girls Night" so spent the entire evening being introduced to other people as "DS's mum or DM's daughter" so I havn't watched One Born yet but will watch it tomorrow night when I catch up with the ironing.
