Continuation from our old thread here

So maybe this thread we'll see some babies?! And definitely lots more shopping Grin

I think i took Senokot after Ds2's c-s. Definitely recommended to take something to help after a c-s, not just the morphine but all that 'furtling around' messes with your intestines.
But it wasn't as bad as i'd expected/made it out to be in my head.
And i didn't take anything after Ds1's normal birth.

I have 2 packs of 10 each surfboards, then planning to get some 'heavy flow' normal pads as it's such a relief to get rid of that surfboards-between-your-legs feeling.

If you really want some TMI.....after my c-s obv had no feeling in lower half of body...i was laid on the bed, on maternity mats and they wanted to check the bleeding so had a look...i had 'soiled' myself Blush Shock had no idea and felt so awful when they said. they were just matter of fact and cleaned up but God i wanted to be swallowed up.

A first poo in the privacy of a bathroom to myself (my own at home preferably) is always going to better than that, lol!

JenAT · 18/02/2011 19:15

Hello,

I've as usual been lurking but not posting. Never seem to get the time to sit and write a post. Just come upstairs to have some Mumsnet time and dd followed me up and announced she needed a poo!

Finding it funny that the thread has progressed from shopping for cute baby clothes, prams etc to maternity pads, lochia and the first postnatal poo! A sure sign that we are all getting closer to d-day!

I can remember the relief of the plastic jug with warm water when weeing, and holding a pad to your stitches when pooing really helped too! I was so sore I could only sit on an inflated childrens rubber ring for a few days. Oh the glamour.

We are having a drop in housewarming party on Sunday and I'm looking forward to properly meeting some of our new neighbours, although most of them are retired and no-one with any young kids. DH has also invited loads of his work colleagues and family, friends etc. I think I will be totally knackered afterwards as I will end up doing the lions share of the work whilst he socialises!

What are everyone else's plans for the weekend?

stuffedmk · 18/02/2011 22:18

I've already got the lactulose so will just have to designate a jug....sod it I might even treat myself to one just for the purpose lol.

I have managed to get a cancellation for 7th March to re-take my test so fingers crossed. I'll be exactly 36 weeks so cutting it a bit close, bubs had better stay put.

JenAT · 18/02/2011 22:43

Good luck for the 7th stuffedmk I'm sure baby will stay put until then, although if do you go into labour during your test it could be a little bit tricky trying to reverse park mid-contraction but you won't have any difficulty with the emergency stop!

MrsWajs · 19/02/2011 01:27

How about "April 2011 - nearly there, all set for dropping Mofo C bombs in the delivery room then kicking back with lactulose cocktails, plastic jugs and riding the maternity surf boards once it's all over!" as our next thread title?

Just a suggestion as I'm having a quiet night at work and have had long enough to sit and think something up!!

Caramello Hadn't thought about the extra 300kcals thing - I thought I kind of overate anyway so didn't really contemplate eating more but I guess maybe my body is accustomed to the amount I eat and therfore still does need a little bit extra in the third trimester! Grin

Stuffed Sorry you failed your test, examiner was clearly an arse! My brother was failed for something similar the first time and he had the same horrible guy that I had and failed with first time too! The irony of it all was, that to avoid getting the same guy again he booked his second test at a different centre but lo and behold the guy had moved there to work and so he did get him again!!! He did pass second time round though!
DP also has his driving test on 1st March and I sooo hope he passes - will be a massive weight off my shoulders . . . and probably his as well!

Cyclebump Glad you have mentioned the irrational giggling, I seem to have it too. Was watching you've been framed tonight before work (not by choice!) and I just could not stop laughing at all the stupid videos - they weren't even remotely funny but I was in stitches!! If it's hormonal or whatever, at least it's better than crying!!

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 19/02/2011 04:55

Might be a bit long MrsW but split it in 2 - 'all set etc' for antenatal and 'kicking back' for our first postnatal thread?

Yay for 'the cancellation, stuffed - sending good luck and stay pit vibes your way!

Gosh you're brave doing a housewarming, Jen. We have a few peep coming over for a v relaxed drinks/nibbles thing this evening and I can't even begin to contemplate cleaning up, let alone preparing food etc and actually having to socialise!

Lis you might have low blood sugar, rather than MS. I get nauseous if I don't eat. I also get heartburn and nauseous if I eat more than a tiny amount Hmm

JoEW · 19/02/2011 06:37

Hello April ladies, I've had a rather bonkers couple of days and have wound up in hospital with pre-eclampsia. Stuck here for the foreseeable and they are monitoring me every fours hours. Managed to get my blood pressure down, which is good, so it seems to be a case of trying to get me as far a long as possible before delivering. 'You won't get to 37 weeks' is as much as they are willing to punt on at the moment. I might well win the race for first baby at this rate!! Hopefully not.

Will try to keep you posted but only internet option is my blackberry and it has taken ages to get to this page.

Hope everyone is well. I'm doing ok, I've taken the view that even if they do have to deliver very early the chances of everything being ok are good. Baby seems to be doing well still and they predict it's 3lbs 8oz, which isn't too bad.

And I am supposed to be in Paris today! Gutted.

Cross your fingers for me and hopefully I'll get back on at some point with an update.

Cheers all.

MrsWajs · 19/02/2011 08:07

Aww no JoEW hope u can hold out for as long as possble and everything is ok with little-Jo, keeping everything crossed for you.

Bummer about Paris too, but at least you weren't away and then became unwell!

Cyclebump · 19/02/2011 08:09

Oh Jo, how scary!

Sounds like you're staying positive and I hope you're being taken care of by lovely friends and loved ones.

I think I'd been winning the race for first baby if I have the ELCS and I intend on still claiming the gold so hang in there! How many weeks are you at the moment? A friend had a baby at about 35 weeks very recently, she was 4lbs 2oz and was home within a week because they knew she was coming early and they were prepared. She's gorgeous and healthy x x

1stTimeMother · 19/02/2011 08:23

Oh JoEW really sorry to hear you're in hospital, but I hope you're keeping positive & they're looking after you. At least you're in the best place & they'll keep the little one safe as well as you. Such a shame about Paris but that will have to be your first trip when you're up & about again.

thanks kitty - I also have (luckily mild) IBS so I'm hoping they don't give me tablets. I was just rather thrown by them going to the effort of calling me but then saying there was nothing for me to do or worry about.... which is it?!?!

not another I'm also getting the belly button pushing - sometimes I honestly think Prawn is trying to find an escape hatch. What do you think that says about its position?!

JenAT - good luck with your housewarming. have fun & make sure DH lets you sit and socialise whilst he does some work!

JustKeepSwimming · 19/02/2011 08:44

Jo - hope baby hangs in there a bit longer, every day helps. Have they mentioned steroid injections for the baby's lungs? that way baby should do pretty well from what i've read/heard.
Hope you aren't feeling too poorly with it & not too bored either - maybe time for a pre-birth present of an iPad, i can recommend Angry Birds as a time-waster :)
Bugger about Paris.

Got lots of baby-preparations to do this weekend/next few days. But starting off with staying in bed with laptop & tea :)

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 19/02/2011 09:37

Oh no, Jo! Hope they can get it under control and fingers tightly crossed for you. Hang in there, baby!

caramellokoalalover · 19/02/2011 11:28

Oh Jo hope the BP settles down fast and you can carry on cooking mini-Jo a little longer. Sucks about Paris too, how disappointing!

Lis you can definitely get ms back again in the last trimester Sad. I had a big violent vom last night that was making me think I had food poisoning too....but no, just heartburn combined with ms I think. Nausea has never gone away, I'm still on meds for hyperemesis, but was hoping the vomitting part was over. Fingers crossed it was a one off episode for us both.

God, all the talk of postnatal excretions is a grim reminder of the reality to come. I was so busy thinking about cute, fluffy things I had forgotten all about the poo fear! I now recall that part of the leaving prescription package from the hospital after having DS was lactulose and fibre sachets. I was scared to stop taking them so continued for about a month post-birth.

JustKeepSwimming · 19/02/2011 11:59

Reflux definitely gets worse for some around now as baby gets bigger and squashes stomach & the valves are more relaxed :(

I weirdly (had forgotten til now) had a one-off puking episode with each DS, about 35/36weeks i think, just the one throw up and that was it, weird.

NotAnotherNewNappy · 19/02/2011 12:31

JoEW - So sorry to hear you're in hospital, hope things calm down soon x

JoEW · 19/02/2011 13:08

Hi all, thanks for the messages. Am 31 weeks so hope to hang in there for a while longer. Have had steroid injections, just in case, but they seem less worried now BP has settled, it was sky high for the first night.

If I'm still in next week I'll get my laptop and a dongle so I have access to the Real World.

Am still unprepared for arrival of baby but everything would be too big if Piglet decides to rock up early. Hopefully I'll get some time for last minute internet shopping.

Am BORED TO TEARS already. I'm not good at being still at the best of times. This is dull as hell.

Had also considered the terrible fear of Post Birth Poo. It's a worry!

LisMcA · 19/02/2011 13:21

JoEW - thinking of you. My very good friend had pre-eclampsia with both her little girls. They were born at 27 and 30 weeks and are both now little bundles of mischief. You are in the right place. They know what they are doing. They will let you hang in there for as long as is safe for you and little Jo. Take care :)

I've been having terrible heartburn recently, but yesterday was the first time I'd been sick since 16 weeks! I just thought "not again"!! I've been fine since though so fingers crossed it was a one off. I can understand the squishing of valves etc, I've popped over the last few days and have a "proper" pregnant looking bump. I was just a bit flabby before Wink

I've now been off work fo 2 weeks, and have had enough of daytime tv and slobbing on the sofa! I need a hobby or something! Any suggestions ladies? Mum said I should learn to knit or something, but I remember her trying to teach me when I was younger, I don't have the patience!

I know there are a few of us on here with SPD. Has anyone got a painkiller stronger than paracetamol? It's barely touching the sides and GP outright refused to give me anything stronger, but I'm now so bad I can't drive anywhere which has effectivly left me housebound.

AuldAlliance · 19/02/2011 14:21

[hijack, sorry....]

Frak, I have lost yr e-mail address as my laptop suffered a most untimely demise.

If you want any advice or anything else, do feel free to contact me. Been there, done that, you know...

Took me a while to track you down, you sneaky name-changer, you.

Cyclebump · 19/02/2011 16:11

Ooh, think again about knitting!

My late gran tried many many times to teach me to knit and failed abysmally. A couple of Christmasses ago I bought a how to knit book (might have been Debbie Bliss) and I've never looked back!

stuffedmk · 19/02/2011 19:56

JoEW hope things settle down and bubs gets to cook for a good while yet!

LisMcA agree try knitting again. Actually I find crochet easier, and you get results faster...always a good thing for the impatient among us lol.

NotAnotherNewNappy · 19/02/2011 21:29

JoEW When I had my wobble, the consultant told me babies born after 28 weeks do really well - and that she was born at 32 weeks herself!

LisMcA I'd get down the library and spend some time enjoying reading in peace and quiet. Plus buy tons of of tupperware cook a massive meal every day that you can freeze half of - you'll be glad you did when the baby is here and you hardly have time to eat, let alone cook!

Does anybody else feel the weeks are zooming by now?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/02/2011 08:11

I'm 30 weeks so while the weeks have been zooming past they feel at a bit of a standstill at the moment, I think because of my muscle pain around my pelvis and the awful BH's I've been having which seem to be triggered by just about everything. However fingers crossed this is just a little blip and I'll get over myself in a few days and then the weeks will fly by!

Sorry to hear about being in hospital JoEW and missing Paris. How about a tapestry? You get results really quickly and it's idiot proof - hell I can do it! This company here do lovely stockings, how about making one for the baby's first Christmas?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you baby will be born at term. Most people I know who have had a PE scare have gone on to deliver at 37 weeks+.

If they are monitoring you every 4 hours is it anything you can't do at home? If of course you feel comfortable doing it at home. If it's your bp and a urine test, they can give you the equipment to do it at home and also a MW can then visit you everyday and do a check themselves. Just a suggestion if you/they feel your condition is stable Smile

kitstwins · 20/02/2011 15:52

joEW Sorry to hear you're stuck in hospital. I was in from 30 weeks with the girls due to praevia and bleeding and by God it's boring. Hard to explain how slowly the time goes in hospital - the closest I came was its a bit like being on an aeroplane - sh!t food and every hour seems like nine.

I second iliketomove's idea of tapestry - even if it's not usually your thing something creative and dividers really kills the time. I got loads of mini beauty stuff too (manicure, face packs) and would spend hours painting my toenails and doing laborious facials. I also became excellent at The Telegraph cryptic crossword. Now is the time to swerve politeness and demand your friends come to see you. The 'outside world' has no idea how dull every day is so I found friends were quite crap at coming to visit and I didn't ask for fear of being too demanding. Upshot of this is that I nearly went out of my mind with boredom which is silly as this is what friends are for.

In that vein, what hospital are you at? I'm based in London so would happily come and visit you on a boring day if you're in that neck of the woods. Can't promise to be particularly thrilling or useful but the arrival of a complete random stranger could at least kill a couple of hours. Am serious so let me know. Can promise I'm not some loon stalker...

Weekend visiting husband's relatives this weekend which was hard work on account of tearful, exhausted twins and a very uncomfortable bed. I can't sleep anywhere at the moment but I've realised that insomnia in your own home with all your stuff to hand is infinitely preferable.

Report on first post-birth poo last time = favourable. Pelvic floor got badly twanged by a pair of caesarean forceps (my first introduction to the existence of these lesser-known but equally barbarous tools!) so I had a ten second warning. However, no pain or problems. This time I'm going with senakot and linseeds just in case. The glamour of it all is just unparalleled...

kitstwins · 20/02/2011 15:56

I have no idea what 'dividers' was meant to be. iPhone predictive text. 'Diverting' maybe? Not sure my post made much sense on account of HOURS sleep last night! I look a total wreck today.
