Good link Lis. It actually answers my question about the pram mattress as it's in a waterproof cover and, as long as that's clean, it's ok. The link to smoking was discussed at length in my antenatal class.

DP's parents both smoke very heavily and all four of their children (DP included) had bad asthma as children, although, thankfully, SIDS wasn't an issue but DP doesn't want the baby to visit or stay in their house as a result.

SIDS is so horrible, sometimes t just seems to happen and there's nothing you can do.

On a happier note, you lucky thing. I wish I was going on a spa trip Envy

At least I'm see Roobub and Custard lady on Saturday for browsing.

kitstwins · 17/02/2011 13:22

Sarahjinx yep - more denial! I have actually forgotten how many pads I went through in the first week alone. Presumably it was billions although I genuinely don't remember. I do remember the paper knickers though. That and my wrinkly stomach. Christ, it was like being 120 years old!

Told my HR I will be working until 38 weeks (assuming all continues to go well) on the grounds that I get more rest at work than I do at home! I suspect this may be insanity on my part and I'll be begging to stay at home on the sofa by 36 weeks!

SarahJinx · 17/02/2011 14:04

I've allowed three weeks from last day to due date which felt right at bloody 10 weeks gone - it now feels like a looong way away!

Lis have a fab fab time at the spa, sooo jeal.

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 17/02/2011 14:11

I'm working to 38 weeks with a 2 hour commute in the car which is starting to kill my back already. 6 weeks til mat leave (I think!).

Sassy20 · 17/02/2011 14:42

Cycle - thanks for making me laugh with your MoFo C comments - hillarious and I can just picture that coming out of my mouth now during labour!

I finish work tomorrow lunchtime Grin and can't wait. I was concerned that it was maybe a bit early - due 6th April - but the driving has been getting more and more difficult and I've had really bad back/left side ache all week so struggling even more. Can't wait to take everyone's advice and make the most of doing nothing for next few weeks since it's the last time I'll be able to!

Can't believe some of you might be having your babies so soon. It's all very exciting. Smile

JustKeepSwimming · 17/02/2011 15:08

I don't work at the moment, but if I did i'd be longing for ML to start - so well done to those of you still going. DS1's sch has a teacher due 15th March, she's finishing tomorrow, she's had enough I can tell though trying to stay positive in front of the parents obv.

Anyway, just back from MW, baby has turned Shock Grin
I swear it must have turned just after lunchtime (was beating me up as usual so can't say i specifically felt it turn) as i'm sure it was still transverse this morning!
And i'm sure it turned just to let her win her bet - she bet it would turn by this appt, 3 weeks ago, hmph, i was sure she was going to lose!

She reckons head down, yey, but we're still planning a scan around 37wks just to confirm after DS2's undiagnosed breech.

Yey baby Grin

Oh and labour/emergency bag pretty much packed, just the one as i'm not planning on being in hosp at all really. And new mattress ordered for cot (babymattressonline.co.uk were much cheaper than other places) - as i couldn't live with myself if that was the one thing i didn't do.

Have started on list for DH of his 'to dos' - mostly stuff down from lost & mine too. He's around/at home most of next week for half-term so hoping to get on top of 'stuff' :)

Jaylar · 17/02/2011 15:14

Lis Yes, I'm just a few miles from the Hydro. You lucky beggar. My other half actually suggested I do the same some months back and I wrote off the idea as I thought I can't lie down for a massage or any other lying down type treatment, and I can't go in jacuzzi or steam room etc. What the hell was I thinking? A pedicure, head massage and splash in the pool would be bliss right now.

Thanks for all the SIDS advice on mattresses. I hate waste but I will end up getting yet another mattress for newbie. From what I remember the risk period is mostly betwen 6 weeks and 6 months so I guess we could use one of the barely used ones as a back up after that age.

I made a comment to my sister when pregnant with DD that I couldn't wait for the baby to be out so I could stop worrying about it. She actually did wee herself a little bit laughing and no wonder. That's when all the worry really starts. Sorry if my question has got everyone worrying. Statistically the chances of it happening are tiny. I'm a typical child of the 70s with a mother who smoked 40 a day through all her pregnancies and beyond, and we were all put to sleep on our tummies and had the same mattress for all 4 of us. And we survived. The Arctic Roll and Findus Pancakes as staple parts of our diets should have finished us off though. I'm aware that the 20 something mums to be out there don't have a clue what I'm talking about.

1stTimeMother · 17/02/2011 15:27

oh I miss Arctic Roll Jaylar... used to love that! Amazing how we all survived!!!! Oh and on the massage front, I had one last week and the spa had this amazing pillow, half body length with supports for my legs, for me to lie on, on my front.. it was bliss... really supportive with holes for boobs & bump! Brilliant. So find yourself somewhere that has one and get a massage!

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 17/02/2011 16:17

I could do with a massage today. My back is aching something chronic :(

Have been sitting as much as possible, trying to remember to pull pelvis forward and do all the right things but owwww!

LisMcA · 17/02/2011 16:19

Findus Pancakes I have been craving them recently, but cannot find them anywhere!

Cyclebump · 17/02/2011 16:48

I was never allowed Findus pancakes (my mum made even our read from scratch. I was soooo jealous of my friends who could eat them, not sure why Hmm

Arctic roll was rereleased last year. Oh so good!

Hurray for another turning baby JustKeepSwimming, hopefully baby will stay the right way!

Just sent the mag to press (it's a fortnightly), which means I've only got one more to go! I'll be 36 weeks on the dot when I go off. As I'm sure you've all gathered Blush I'm a bit sick of work now but I think it's the right timing as I can stick it out and even if they go for the ELCS I'll have had two weeks off prior to it.

DP and I have scheduled in some sofa time (complete with near matching pjs) tonight as we've both been so busy, can't wait!

AussieMum2Be · 17/02/2011 16:52

Hi all,

I havent been online in forever but just spent past few days catching up on this thread.

Ive got just under 8 weeks to go now, due 12th April and am planning to work till I pop, dont know how realistic that is but ive been lucky and had a pretty easygoing pregnancy.

I havent put on a kilo yet which has prompted many to ask if im having a Phantom pregnancy as not looking pregnant, but did start on the curvyside to begin with, Midwife doesnt seem to bothered as am measuring fine and the all night kicking has assured me there is definately a real baby in there !

Ive been buying crazy, my DP keeps asking whats being delivered today as I have list upon list and slowly ticking everything off.

Spent last couple of weeks re-decorating our bedroom and nursery, I just sat on the floor and painted midway while DP did rest and slowly getting house ready and in order as much for the baby as for my parents who will be visiting from OZ and have the most beautiful, immaculate home !

Im also going down the cloth nappy route and have bought loads new & 2nd hand from clothnappytree and ebay, they are super cute !!

Do you think you could get a pram mattress and moses basket mattress dry-cleaned and it would be safe ?

A bit lonely this week, DP in Vegas for his brothers 30's which i was meant to join but thought id be huge by now, wish i had gone even to just have sat by pool reading !

Love reading everyones imput on labour bags and have put all suggestions on my list on iphone to start ticking off ! Man I sound anal !

Well thats looks like a long enough post, but plan to keep in better touch.

Almost friday all, Enjoy

Petalouda · 17/02/2011 18:25

Afternoon All!

Love the swearing posts! I've got a terrible potty mouth! Which I constantly find amazing, since I'm a teacher. Fortunately I seem to be able to stop myself swearing in front of the kids (it's secondary, before you panic!), but I do seem to need to let a stream out during the commute in and out!

What am I going to do when this baby comes?! I hope I'll automatically rein it in (I can't swear in front of my family, since my mum washed my mouth out with soap, aged about 7!).

Re weight: I stopped looking when I'd put on more than 2 stone Blush. However, I'm sure I haven't put any on elsewhere, it all looks like belly! A massive 2 stone belly!

Right - got to go, we're off to antenatal tonight!

caramellokoalalover · 17/02/2011 18:45

MrsWajs I think you have an extra calorie allowance in the last trimester so if you've been eating your normal amount, or less because of lack of space in your stomach, then maybe that could account for the loss? I've lost a little too over the past 2 weeks or so and I'm 31wks as well. Not worried as I put on plenty in the first trimester. And my arms and back certainly prove I'm not in danger of wasting away Blush.

SarahJinx I have the bruised fanjo too. Feels like I've been horseriding or something. Odd.

Oooh, all these babies scheduled for March is making me very impatient to meet mine. I went on the birthing centre tour today which made everything seem that little bit more real. Seeing the little plastic cribs you put your baby in after it's born made me have a strong urge to be in there tomorrow giving birth and getting it all over with so I can cuddle the baby.

SaltedPretzels · 17/02/2011 19:03

Jaylar / Cycle About mattresses old and new etc all the info without the sorrow!

fsid.org.uk/document.doc?id=24

How exciting all this talk of who's first an only weeks away Grin

Sarahjinx lmao
I'm freaked out by the maternity pads too, I could only bring myself to actually buy one pack so far, and then got even more freaked out by the message on teh side of the pack which said 'you will need 600 of these in you first week' or some such - yikes!

Are you having a period or planning a biblical flood lol sorry just tickled me to read this Smile

SaltedPretzels · 17/02/2011 19:59

Lis Findus pancakes, I was sent an e-mail video addresses to all those 30 somethings out there do you remember.....

It went into a groovy video with blackbox ride on time as the backing music it was hilarious.

In it it flashed a picture of Findus crispy pancakes with the text under saying do you remember these for dinner.....vomit in breadcrumbs lol you now have me in giggles and searching franticly to find it again. It was so funny, leg warmers, cycling shorts, puff ball shirts, rubix cubes, space hoppers, silly putty, McDonalds adverts as a family restaurant for treating the family lol, roller skates with four wheels - one in each corner!, Cindy, space dust, Highland toffees cost 2p, 1/2 penny sweets, dusty bin the list goes on Grin Grin

Cyclebump · 17/02/2011 21:26

I wouldn't worry about the swearing Petal, I teach littlies on my weekends and haven't ever sworn in class no matter how pushed. I reckon I'll be the same with baby.

I've only bought one pack of maternity pads. For us first-timers be honest people, how many are we going to need? Put it out there, it's time we knew...

NotAnotherNewNappy · 17/02/2011 21:33

Has anybody found anywhere cheaper than mothercare for maternity pads? If I need x600 and they?re £2.50 a pack, then I fear all that bleeding will send us bankrupt!

I now have heartburn and palpitations to add to my list of symptoms ? honestly, this pregnancy is turning me into a hypochondriac! I went to the doctor?s to have my blood pressure checked and she signed me off work for four weeks Smile So that?s me done now and I have only 25% of the novel to plough through?

I am feeling much better today as I had a really good night?s sleep last night, curtsey of Gaviscon and my hypno-birthing CD. It really is amazing the difference a good sleep makes. Make sure you?re getting your rest, ladies!

Kitstwins ? How are your twins doing?

Jaylar- Is your DD any better today? I am going to get a new moses basket and cotbed mattresses as I remember midwives going on about this at antenatal classes last time. Though, I fear poor DD2 will get more basic models of both than PFB Blush

JustKeepSwimming I got all teary reading how your baby had turned.

Glad it?s not just me who?s turning up at the labour ward & reliving their first labour with all these BH!

Am also raising my Brewat all those of you who m'net on your phones and therefore don't post much. M'net really needs a better mobile setup.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/02/2011 22:32

NotAnother - I get my maternity pads from Boots. Not sure how much they are, but they were the best ones I remember from when I had DS.

Petal - don't worry about the swearing. I'm a total potty mouth and by some miracle DS hasn't picked up a single word despite having a pretty good vocabulary!

I have got loads of twinges in my cervix this evening - TMI I know, sorry!

Saw midwife earlier and she said that the baby's head is really well down in my pelvis already. Not yet please baby, I need another 2.5 weeks as a minimum!

Liv77 · 18/02/2011 00:19

NotAnother I got 2 packs of Boots Maternity pads yesterday, I used them last time around as well. They may look huge but when your fanjo is recovering you do appreciate the extra padding.
They were £1.01 for a pack of 10.
I also stocked up on Boots disposable pants at £2.01 for a pack of 5.
I had to ask a male shop assistant where they were as they had moved the store around again. He had no idea what I was talking about and it took some persuading him that they definatley did sell paper knickers. He got quite flustered bless him and had to go and find another member of staff. We found them in the end and I told him I was glad to have been of assistance and that he would now know where to look next time for paper pants. Grin

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 18/02/2011 08:58

Hurrah for your head down baby JKS Smile

I think this one turned head down the other weekend. I had a really uncomfortable day where no position was comfortable, the baby moved a lot and I had bump ache. Then ever since then the baby's movements have felt different. I'll find out when I see the MW next week.

600 pads in the first week? Surely not? That's nearly 100 pads a day. I would say for the first few days and maybe weeks you will need to change every hour in the day and a couple of times in the night. The more physical exertion you do the heavier the bleeding, so I always think that is natures way of telling you to sit on your arse for as long as possible Grin

Glad to hear you've been signed off notanother. I expect it's a huge relief.

Off to the osteopaths in a few hours, will I walk out a new woman??!!

How's the back Frakk? Is there anyone you can see about it? Swimming can often bring a lot of relief.

stuffedmk · 18/02/2011 09:49

Cycle I am not replacing my pram mattress as it was hardly used and it won't be used at any time when I'm not with bubs. I would (if I had kept DS's cot/crib) replace those mattresses as baby would be left unobserved for naps and I would hopefully be asleep some of the time he was sleeping.

I didn't pass my driving test so am keeping an eye out for a cancellation, but according to the website I can't retake before 10 working days after failing, and I only have about 6 weeks til due date (and I'm not booking anything too close) I don't see me re-taking it until after baby comes.
I failed because I took too long to go around some parked cars and the car speeding up the other way (which only appeared after I had started moving out) had to break. Apparently someone did the same thing a couple of weeks ago and passed. I can honestly say I tend to beat myself up at the slightest thing and I got back to the test centre thinking I'd done ok Sad
Oh well, nevermind.

kittycatcat · 18/02/2011 09:52

Sounds like bad luck with your designated examiner cycle You shouldnt have been failed on that!

SarahJinx · 18/02/2011 09:58

Oh I made it up about the 600 pads in a week, I can't remember what it actually said but I know it was a lot Salted and I don't know any different being a total ignoramus of all this stuff! I do remember thinking just what the effing heck is going to come out of there after this baby shows up....?

My best friend took me to boots and made me get horrid things like nipple cream and paper pants and the huge big maternity surfboards and up to that point, I had only got pretties like gorge soft blankets, little teeny vests and nice things, I don't want to know about the other bits really!

liv and caramel Fanjo, ha! I wake up every morning feeling all hurty and bruised in my lady and I'm pretty damn certain my fella hasn't been trying to get at me in the night either.....

I would like to be signed off really.

stuffedmk · 18/02/2011 10:13

Sarah I know what you mean, I'd like to be able to ignore that side of things and just buy all the cute fluffy baby stuff Grin
kitty I assume you mean me, I was a bit peeved.....after getting home and crying for about 15 mins like the hormonal wreck that I am lately.
Speaking of hormones, I started blubbing a couple of nights ago because DH (being very, very tired) had a bit of a moan about my snoring. Just couldn't stop the tears Hmm Haven't really had much of the emotional craziness before now.
