SnapFrakkleAndPop · 10/02/2011 07:18

I've not even started washing things but we're due a cyclone and apparently that can trigger labour....which would be me straight to hospital for a CS under emergency power! Maybe I should consider it.

I iron jeans, sheets and pillowcases but not muslins. I Iike ironed stuff.

BeetleBaby · 10/02/2011 07:56

I only iron the jeans that I have to roll up the bottoms on, so that they stay up! Plus if I do ironing while I watch the F1 Grand Prix on Sundays DH doesn't complain that I'm hogging the tv! Grin

Youngblowfish It wasn't quite cavewomen and rock pools but there were some impressive hair styles and glasses..! (If you do see the same pain relief video all I can say is big red bow = Biscuit ).

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 10/02/2011 08:12

See, I like ironed jeans, sheets and pillowcases, I just can't be arsed to do it! Grin

1stTimeMother · 10/02/2011 08:13

kittycatcat I'm definitely with the Pacapod changing bag, I'd really like one of those too, just can't make up my mind!

lisMcA I'm with Fraser, partly because that's on our list too and is a big family name, & I love it.

Sorry to crow but I have a day off today to head for a beautiful spa with full body massage & pedicure & lunch thrown in thanks to DH's amazing Xmas present! (Considering he flew off to Asia last night for 10 days, it is the least I need right now to stop the incessant flow of pregnancy-hormone induced tears!)

kittycatcat · 10/02/2011 08:26

Oh so jealous 1sttime have a lovely day!
I am v v v impressed with the pacapod. As cycle says the pram clips are fab. And i like that when the bag is hanging on the pram you open the front zip and the 2 pods are there. One for feeding one for changing. Both have compartments for everything. Then there is a main compartment for clothes. And a smaller zip section for mummy things like phone etc, and a key fob thats easy to attach. Although the yummy mummy one has lots of pockets they are all in the one main compartment so it might be harder to put your hand to everything. And the two pods can come out of the bag and hang on the pram on their own. LOVE it. DH wasnt too impressed as him and my inlaws bought the yummy mummy bag. But i had gone for the hospital bag and although it seems similar in size its huge hanging off the pram.

I HATE ironing. I do what i must and thats the lot, but i do iron jeans Hmm

SaltedPretzels · 10/02/2011 09:20

Kittycat Snap, Fraser due south yummy, yum Grin

Petal I only ironed a couple of muslims for when out and about (silly I know, but it made me feel less self conscious) Smile

My mother irons EVERYTHING and I mean that, socks, pants, hanky's and the most annoying yet, her hair lol albeit with GHD's. Oh I forgot to mention I've got mine on the list for my last minute items to go in the hospital bag! My hair is long and straight and I love it but au natural is hello orphan Annie curlsShock

1stTime Have a lovely day, it sounds wonderful Smile

Thaney · 10/02/2011 09:58

I try and avoid ironing at all costs. Thankfully DH seems to quite like it.

The builders have started on my garage conversion today. Not sure this is the best time seeing as I have less that 8 weeks until the big day Shock

Cyclebump · 10/02/2011 10:25

I have NEVER owned an iron [runs away to hide].

I work in media so wear jeans to the office and DP is in trade so it's a massive waste of time attempting to make him look tidy.

With regard to my Pacapod I'd definitely look on eBay. I bagged mine for £50 inc postage and it was brand new with the tags on as it was an unwanted baby shower gift. In a shop it would have cost an eye watering £90-£100! I cringed at spending even £50 as it's by far and away the most I've ever spent on a bag but heyho.

Talking of purchases...

I'm seriously thinking of buying myself a Bumgenius reusable nappy kit. Anyone got any experience with the brand? I'm probably going to use disposables for a bit at the beginning as I get the hang of it all but nappies are SO expensive and I'd quite like to invest in washables while I'm earning to save in the long run. Plus, my sisters and I were in washables as we were all allergic to modern disposables.

kittycatcat · 10/02/2011 10:36

Yeah i had a £50 John Lewis voucher so mine ended up costing me £25. Result!

LisMcA · 10/02/2011 10:38

Carpet fitters here. What a racket he's making [fingers in ears emoticon]

I never iron, when I moved in with DH then DBF years ago I ironed a shirt for him, he then Ironed it again himself as I hadn't done it rightHmm. It was decided very early on that DH would do all washing and ironing and I'd look after shopping and cooking! Works for me!!

I think Fraser is my favourite too, but its my maiden name and I have a niggle about it being odd when my brother has kids (he's 21, single and still living at home so not in the near future) it will be weird htat my DS's cousins will has his name as their surname. Am I over thinking this?? Blair on the other had I have no silly niggles about and would quite happily call DS Blair. But Fraser would always be the one that got away IYKWIM

Must do some tidying up today, friends are coming down from Up North tomorrow and we are going to Murryfield for the Scotland v Wales game on Saturday! I have become really friendly with a lady at the SRU this week. She has sorted out a parking space for me at the ground, otherwise its a fairly long walk from the trainstation for me, which I wouldn't mangage! I'm of the opinion "don't ask don't get"!

sats1977 · 10/02/2011 12:49

I haven't posted for ages but have been following the April threads, so much useful information such as the hospital bag stuff, very good for us first time mothers! And lovely to hear how everyone's pregnancies are going.

Mine has been going pretty good so far, have had some back pain but started pregnancy yoga and it seems to help. Currently suffering with a cold though, can't wait for it to clear!

I was made redundant at Christmas so have been at home taking it easy. It's been good since I used to have to commute within London and hated it so I can only imagine how horrid it would be now at nearly 30 weeks...

We decided to put some of my redundancy package money towards a lovely holiday in the sun (Barbados) since it's the last holiday for just the two of us for a while :) We travelled mid-January and it was so lovely, I just relaxed on the beach while my hubby did some surfing, jet skiing etc.

I'm slowly starting to get a bit nervous about the labour as it's getting closer...Still haven't chatted to the consultant about it but know that CS is one option since I've had high blood pressure problems (not currently thankfully but in the past and at the beginning of the pregnancy) and low lying placenta. But I'm really excited about meeting our little man soon, our close friends had a boy 2 months ago and he's just adorable :)

kitstwins · 10/02/2011 13:22

FRASER gets my vote.

No need to iron cot sheets or muslin cloths or even babygros - as long as you use fabric softener I think they're fine. Plus, there's something so sweet and 'dormouse' about little babies in creased white babygros. I dug out all my old stuff from the girls last night, including all their premmie 4lb sleepsuits - I can't believe they ever fitted into them! Have made a good unisex selection of items and slung a few pink babygros in for good measure.

Good news for me today - I had my 32 week growth scan and all is well. The baby has miraculously turned to head down (this may have been all the snakey movements I had two nights ago) and my placenta is clear of my cervix - lying across my front and slightly to the right, apparently. The baby was jumping about all over the place and seemed enormous (giant head!). The sonographer formally informed me that it weighed 4lbs 4oz which was ridiculously specific and which I have discounted on the grounds that weight predictions are notoriously speculative. I was told that the girls were 5 1/2 lbs at a 33 week scan and they were well under that when they were born two weeks later. No doubt I will eat my words when I give birth to some 9lb whopper in 8 weeks!

I survived the fizzy mango but I don't think my tummy liked it. I'm trying to repair the damage by eating lots of nuts and seeds today, which is deathly dull as I'd far rather be lolling on a sofa chucking dark chocolate down my throat.

ecuse · 10/02/2011 13:33

Well I had my growth scan today and you wise women were right about the spuriousness of the tape measure test. Sonographer said the baby was more or less bang on average, with average amount of fluid and average sized placenta. Hurrah. So we got to have another look at the little tyke, which was really fun. (S)he's grown!

And they reckon (s)he weighs 3lbs 5oz at 30wks+2, although I take your point about the likelihood of that being precise, kitstwins!

kittycatcat · 10/02/2011 14:07

Thats fab news kitstwins

kittycatcat · 10/02/2011 14:08

Glad all is well ecuse so cool getting an extra sneaky peak :)

Cyclebump · 10/02/2011 14:11

Sigh, I wish I could get another peek. I'm getting impatient to meet baby now.

kittycatcat · 10/02/2011 14:28

Me too cycle and i am at the end of April Thread :( Still 7 weeks to mat leave.

Cyclebump · 10/02/2011 15:22

I'm 4 April and have three weeks til maternity leave. Feels like forever!

ecuse · 10/02/2011 15:35

kittycatcat, cyclebump and others, I've put the scan pic here so you can get a look at sort-of how yours might look at 30+2!
As you can see it's a lot bigger than in the 20-wk one (can't get it all in the frame).

Dotty bit at the bottom is the spine and I think its head is turned towards the 'camera' (?)

Cyclebump · 10/02/2011 17:05

Awwww, beautiful. Gosh, I can barely imagine what mine looks like now he's at 32 weeks!

Luckily, working on a medical magazine I can look at ultrasounds on the picture library to satisfy my curiosity.

Petalouda · 10/02/2011 17:59

Hello!

Nice to know I'm not the only ironing slacker! I've just put all the baby clothes we have (& muslins) in the washing machine.

Spoke to my mum last night, who reassured me that it wouldn't be that mental to get a bag packed soonish!

Re: reusable nappies, thenappylady.co.uk recommended LittleLamb microfibre nappies for us. They are expensive, but my friend is trying to organise a baby shower for me, and if everyone buys one nappy, we'll be sorted! To make this easy, I've made a wishlist on Amazon so people can see what we need etc. It felt a bit like an ungrateful baby-list thing, but it's all necessary stuff that I'll have to buy anyway. Which made me feel better!

1stTimeMother · 10/02/2011 18:34

Back from the spa and feeling so relaxed for the first time in a while - DH has so many brownie points for that pressie!

sats1977 v jealous of your holiday! That must have been a wonderful break before the madness starts.

I've got 30 week check with midwife tomorrow but I'd love another scan - how can they tell that everything's in right place/right direction, etc?!?! Thinking up lots of questions now.

Petalouda · 10/02/2011 19:27

Woop! My wonderful mummy has just ordered us a set of reusable nappies! Little Lamb Microfibre nappies, with all the trimmings!

What a legend!

Cyclebump · 10/02/2011 20:22

Lucky you Petal!

I've just sent off my advice request to the nappy lady. Fingers crossed!

BeetleBaby · 10/02/2011 21:00

Whew, looooooooong day today. Work followed by taking the Brownies to visit the local telescope. Was like my worlds all coming together at once as DH was giving the talk tonight, always a little odd seeing him being the professional academic!

We're going for the pop n grow birth to potty nappies. Seeing a demonstration of them managed to totally convert DH to reusables (though it might have something to do with the bright colours and the lack of that odd plastic smell that disposables have).

Thanks for sharing your scan photo ecuse it's really interesting to see!
