I like the PacaPod one too, very nice.

caramel - DH has his own changing bag. It has been great for making him think about what we need to take when we go out actually. When we just used mine it would always fall to me to make sure it was packed etc, but since he had his own he knows as well as I do what's needed for a day out.

I had my growth scan and consultant appointment today. All well, but the baby is growing pretty big because of my gestational diabetes. I have another scan in two weeks, but already they have said they won't let me go past my due date - which I am happy about tbh, no desire to risk a stillbirth.
Still debating VBAC vs. ELCS and feeling very emotionally and teary about it. This stupid cold I have isn't helping me think straight about it either.

LisMcA · 09/02/2011 17:10

ooh I got a Pink Lining Bag for Christmas too! the Blooming Georgous one. I would link, but its not on the site anymore.

Dh said he's fine using the one that comes with the pram if he takes Buster out on his own.

Another slight change of subject :) Can I ask you all to give your opinions on our 2 shortlisted names for DS. I have been thinking about posting on the baby name threads, but I so scared someone says something horrible to put me off again. So if you hate them please don't say! :o

Fraser or Blair :) Surname starts McA obviously!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 09/02/2011 17:10

Sorry just wanted to say, there is only the increased risk of stillbirth at 40+ because of my GD - suddenly realised I might have frightened people saying that! Blush

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 09/02/2011 17:11

I like Fraser, lovely name :)

Thaney · 09/02/2011 17:21

I prefer Fraser too :)

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 09/02/2011 17:21

I love both of the names LisMcA, they're lovely Smile

It's a very hard decision to make isn't it Ali, you're just so worried about doing the right thing, growing and birthing babies is such a big responsibility.

Remember you don't have to make any decisions yet. You can opt for a VBAC until 40 weeks, then if labour doesn't start have a section?

Is the baby growing big because of the GD or do you just grow big babies? If your GD has been well under control then is it possible you just grow big 'uns?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 09/02/2011 17:22

I think I like Blair the most because it reminds me of Blair Underwood Blush

LisMcA · 09/02/2011 17:27

Oooh never heard of him

LisMcA · 09/02/2011 17:29

He is yummy! I did think for a second the sear threw back pics of Will Smith :o

I don't remember LA Law really, only that my mum really liked it. I now see why!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 09/02/2011 17:29

I think I might be showing my age Blush

He was in LA Law and Dirty, Sexy, Money.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 09/02/2011 17:30

X-posted

I lol at 'my mum really liked it'

Now I really do feel old Wink Grin

AprilMeadow · 09/02/2011 17:31

I would vote Blair. I do know a Blair McA..... and he is very cute :)

LisMcA · 09/02/2011 17:31

You are only 3 years older than me! I'm going to be 30 this year Shock

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 09/02/2011 17:34

I'm actually 35, I guess when you write your profile it doesn't update!

I didn't mind being 30 actually, I hated being 21 though Hmm

LisMcA · 09/02/2011 17:37

Yay so that means I'll always be 29 on Mumsnet!!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 09/02/2011 18:22

ILike - I do grow big-ish babies, DS was 8lbs12oz at 40+11. It is more that the tummy and head measurements are no longer in synch, the tummy is growing significantly larger/faster than the head which is a key indicator of GD.

I am thinking that I will say that I'm happy to try a VBAC if I go into labour spontaneously before my due date, but that I want a section booked for my due date because I don't want to be induced by whatever method.
But you are right, it is very stressful and I feel guilty already in anticipation of possibly making the wrong choice!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 09/02/2011 18:32

Ali - I don't blame you for not agreeing to induction. They don't induce VBAC'ers at my local anyway, but I would refuse it if they did.

The guilt is a total fucker isn't it?! And as you know, the birth is only the start of the guilt Grin

Just remember that you can only make the best decision with the information you have at the time.

Hopefully making a decision and having a plan will stop the internal battles you are no doubt having in your head. Can you tell I've been there before?! Grin

Tonight is pizza, wine and Glee night

Cyclebump · 09/02/2011 19:39

Good to know the coffee mornings could be a potential way to meet people.

RE changing bags I bought this. but the one I got is teal.

I'm not at all lady like so didn't need a handbag kind of one and am a bit anal about everything being in its proper place so it's perfect for me. Plus the food pod turns into a mini rucksack for when baby gets to toddler stage and has built in clips for attaching it to the par,.

Cyclebump · 09/02/2011 19:40

Aargh, attaching it to the pram!

kittycatcat · 09/02/2011 19:57

I bought the pacapod.v pleased with it. Yay.

lismca I likeboth names. To show my 35 years Fraser reminds me of Fraser in due south. Yum.

Petalouda · 09/02/2011 21:04

Hello!

Blimey, it's taking me longer and longer to catch up with a day's chat!

We had options evening at school tonight, not bad staying late as I got to gush on at the parents of great kids and sell them triple science! Of course, anyone not so great didn't come near as they'll be doing minimum requirements.

Turns out it wasn't just me with the urge to start getting baby things together. I washed some sheets the other day, but I got home today to find that DH had stripped and washed the car seat, cleaned out the car and made sure it fits.

I was really uncomfortable this morning - my belly felt sooo heavy, and I could feel his head so low, grinding on my bladder again. He must've shifted by lunch though, because I realised later I was much more comfy. I mentioned it to my TA this morning and she went "ooh, not long left then" in that knowing way that people do. Made me panic even more about bag packing/washing stuff!

We've got antenatal next week. I'm hope it's a bit more fluffy than a basic biology lesson - that'll just wind me up as I pick up all the bad science in it! I'm most looking forward to meeting people there.

Quick question - are we supposed to wash muslins before use too? (and do people really iron muslins/sheets/etc?!)

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 09/02/2011 21:42

Petal - I washed muslins before first use, and no I didn't iron either them or sheets - maybe other people do?? Shock

BeetleBaby · 09/02/2011 22:31

Wow, what a lot to catch up on!

We had our second (and last) antenatal class last night. Not quite as useful as the first though the MW had some reassuring stats about the number of CSections/foreseps/vontuse(sp?) births at the hospital. Still hate the idea of having an epidural though, just the idea of having something in my back freaks me out!

I'm sorry to hear that some of you have had bad experiences with HV. Like any profession there are the good, the bad and the ugly I guess! I've probably got a warped view as my mum is a HVassistant and the HV in the team she works with are utterly lovely and obviously committed to the families they work with. Though they did have a trainee who seemed to think being HV would be an easy option, she wasn't best pleased to find that she was expected to actually care about people! Suffice to say she isn't a HV...

All the hospital bag suggestions are great. DH is starting to panic and keeps nagging for me to get mine packed! The list we got from the antenatal class included such essentials as 'music cassettes' Hmm so probably not the most realistic or up to date!

I'm still cream crackered each day which isn't helped by lack of sleep thanks to sore hips a very active at night baby! Two weeks and two days left at work, here's hoping I last it! It's getting crazy busy though and not being able to have a well earned pint on a Friday is much missed right now!

petal for muslins I'm working on the assumption that, like tea towels, they absorb better when washed before use. As for the ironing...pah...I can't stand long enough to iron a pair of jeans right now!

Petalouda · 09/02/2011 22:46

You iron jeans?! Shock

I must be a total slacker! Blush

youngblowfish · 10/02/2011 01:48

PMSL at 'music cassettes' still featuring on the list of essentials for birth Grin.

The midwife running my ante-natal class did mention that the film of childbirth they are going to show next week is dated... if BeetleBaby's experiences are anything to go by, I am fully expecting a footage of cavewomen giving birth in rock pools.
