Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Cyclebump · 21/01/2011 19:41

Oh Salted, that's awful x

Maybe decide on the name when the time comes as I'm sure your head is all over the place right now. Its better to find an outlet, don't worry about lowering the mood, thats what support forums are for! Baby probably does sense that you're upset. My bump seems emotion sensitive but I find it comforting when he gives a wriggle when I'm sad.

caramellokoalalover · 22/01/2011 07:29

So sorry Salted. What sad news. Hope you're ok xxx

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 22/01/2011 09:26

So sorry to hear about your dear friend SP. You don't have to decide on names yet, give yourself some time. Evelyn is a beautiful name though.

petalouda - your symptoms sound like your iron level could be low.

Cyclebump · 22/01/2011 16:18

Mum has just left after dropping off yet more tiny clothes she 'just happened to see' and a washable nappy test kit that we spent ages trying to assemble!

Am now exhausted. Where is my bloom? I'm 30 weeks on Monday and still no sign.

thefurryone · 22/01/2011 16:35

salted really sorry to hear about your friend {hugs}

Petalouda · 22/01/2011 19:45

hello, more saturday hugs for salted xx

ILTMITMI yep, that crossed my mind so I got back on the multi-vits last night. Been much better today, despite 2 friends each with small children popping round (which was ace! although I spent a lot of the time wondering what i've let myself in for!)

Got the mw on monday, so I should get last blood results back (although, taken 3 weeks ago, you'd think they'd have rung if those showed I was anaemic).

BeetleBaby · 22/01/2011 20:29

salted I'm so sorry to hear about your friend xx

Petal what you describe is exactly how I felt the other week which turned out to be anemia kicking in. I had upped my spatone (which I take anyway) which took the edge off but it wasn't until the liquid iron really kicked in that I realised just how much the low iron count had been taking it out of me. (being able to make to the end of the day at work almost makes up for the horrid taste of the stuff!)

Today I bought a V shaped pillow, and I don't know why I didn't sooner. It's making sitting down so much more comfortable for my whole back not just the sore bits. Here's hoping it helps me get comfy tonight while I sleep too!

Petalouda · 23/01/2011 09:28

Beetle that's what we thought it might be too.

This morning, DH has just brought me a cup of tea in bed. About 4 sips in I was suddenly so dizzy I felt really sick. Crawled into the bathroom and did some deep breathing in what I think was child pose (on knees & elbows with head down). Felt much better after a few minutes. I think it's a combo of anaemia and low blood pressure, which is unusual for me (normally at high end). Had some multi-vits, but I read the box and discovered they don't actually have iron in them! So had weetabix and put a meat order in with DH for dinner tonight!

Do I need a prescription for the liquid iron?

I'm amazed I just nearly passed out whilst already lying down!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 23/01/2011 15:06

I guess the GP may have some sort of liquid iron that they will prescribe. I buy liquid Floradix (about £10 a bottle), but it really works for me. Just incase you don't know, something in tea (the tannin maybe?) inhibits iron absorption and vit C helps the body absorb it. So take your iron supplement with a swig of oj, and not tea.

Even if your MW doesn't mention it, ask her what your iron level was as some people do slip through the net.

I am not sure what I was thinking today. We needed to buy a new carpet and some floor tiles for the extension. But doing stuff like that with ds is a bloody nightmare, so I volunteered to do it while ds had his lunchtime nap. I poo poo'd dh when he said about the floor tiles being a bit too much to lift and push around (8 packs). I was being stubborn and taking the 'I am pg, not ill stance'.

Oh how I regret it! The packs of tiles were heavier than I thought they were going to be and I forgot that when you often lift heavy but smallish items you hold them to your body don't you? Blimey it was hard picking them up and shifting them with a bloody great bump in the way.

Note to self: let dh do all of the donkey work from now on!

kittycatcat · 24/01/2011 09:16

Morning all. 'Welcome' to Monday!

Salted so sorry to hear about your friend. Big hugs. I think the name is lovely. Definately see how you feel when bubs arrives. Ranatadine is great, my nan and mum are prescribed it as they have Chrones disease.

Petalouda Hope your Grandad is doing ok. And it was me re the quiet baby at 26 weeks. He seems to have picked up now.

Had an awful moment yest. DH's nephew elected to throw (involuntarily) himself down the stairs while in my care. He is an independant two year old who wouldnt take my hand. He rolled all the way. His mum who is a best mate in addition to SIL said he's at that independant stage where he wants to do it all himself so you have to go in front of him. I feel really guiltly, but at the same time if i had been in front and he had fallen he could have done me and kitten harm. Nephew was fine soon after. I was more upset than him. Both his parents asked if i was ok but i feel like i am being blamed :(

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 24/01/2011 09:55

Oh Kitty, things like that always happen, and I think it's worse when you are in charge of other people's children rather than your own. The most important thing is that you are both ok.

Have just got an email from Amazon about their Baby Bonanza Deals 24 Jan - 6 Feb.

Some deals today that may be of interest are:

Philips Avent Monitor SCD510 DECT - £32.49
Medela Swing Breast Pump - save 30%

I have no ideas how these prices compare though.

The past few days the Braxton Hicks have been kicking in BIG time. They are very strong and the baby squirms around like a good'un - ouch.

1stTimeMother · 24/01/2011 09:58

morning all,

salted hope you're ok - really sorry about your friend, just take lots of time for yourself.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt please be careful lifting heavy things!!!!! Leave all of that to DH or anyone else but you!!

kittycatcat you have nothing to feel guilty about! Whilst it is totally understandable you feeling guilty, unfortunately 2y.o.'s seem to love testing the boundaries physically & always bounce back so relax that he is ok & you & kitten are also!!!!

I honestly feel like there is no room inside me for the baby anymore....but at 27+3 today and saw a friend yesterday who's 39.... I think the bump is going to get pretty big!!

beckie90 · 24/01/2011 10:17

im still really tiny belly wise, dont look pregnant just look like ive ate a good meal, but im starting to notice my skin is feeling rather loose lol, it is my 2nd pregnancy, and with me only been a size 6, i kinda was expecting to get rather saggy, but im still like kinda mad Angry haha, i know it sounds daft, but the baby will be worth it though.
is anyone else 28 weeks and not got much of a bump lol

lucielooo · 24/01/2011 11:43

so sorry to hear about your friend salted - hope you're ok and looking after yourself x

beckie90 · 24/01/2011 11:46

only just read thru last posts. SALTED so sorry to hear about your friend, lots of hugs xx

Cyclebump · 24/01/2011 13:03

Looking after other people's toddlers is a minefield, they're always attempting to damage themselves! If he's ok, that's the main thing.

I remember feeling guilty for ages when my cousin's little one fell over and grazed her knee in my care. Her mum just laughed and pointed out she'd fallen into a pond the week before and been rescued by a friend. You can only do your best.

SarahJinx · 24/01/2011 14:41

Really feeling for you Salted Hope you're doing ok.

I'm 27 weeks today which is fab, however I feel like I have had next to no sleep for the past couple of nights, am sat at my desk in a trance really, just glad that my boss is out today....!

Petalouda I had low blood pressure early on and MW told me to drink loads and loads - I never knew that so try it - if only it could be wine!

Sassy20 · 24/01/2011 17:17

Firstly really sorry to hear your news Salted. Hope you're ok.

Thanks for the update re amazon sale ILTMIMI - still need to get a breast pump and having read what people say on here want the Medela one so that's really useful.

I've decided to change hospital so am now going to have baby at Harrogate instead of LGI. Heard too many negative things about LGI so got a bit panicked and asked my MW if I could swap so I am. I'll probably have changed my mind again in the next few weeks - who knows?!

JustKeepSwimming · 24/01/2011 18:09

Thought I might give some feedback on the mat clothes I bought the other day - haven't worn them all yet but the ones I have:

Gap:
(annoyingly can't order mat clothes online in the UK and only in some stores)

  • vests: fab, really long and comfy, though I got a Medium instead of Small (I'm an 8/10 normally, prob approaching a 12 at the mo though!)
  • long-sleeved t-shirts: mostly fab, the plain white one i didn't get as was see-through, but the darker colours are fab.

H&M:
(the Kensington High St one has loads of choice, not sure about online, website doesn't have half the stuff the shop had)

  • tights: terrible, i bought small and they fell down/rolled down to below my bump with the crotch near my knees, awful, & £12.99 for 1 pair!!
  • long sleeved dark grey jumper: lots of compliments and v comfy

Seraphine:

  • this dress: fab, so comfy on and looks fab, loads of compliments
  • navy top: lovely, well worth the price tag i would say
  • this top but in blue: lovely, needs a vest under it as v low cut but the Gap vest works perfectly. Lovely feel.

I have bought size 2 from Seraphine which all fit really well, so must be approx 10/12.

Petalouda · 24/01/2011 18:13

Hey all,

Kitty that was bad luck, I agree with the comment about toddlers always trying to kill themselves. I remember all my sister's toddler injuries well!

I had a couple of friends over this weekend with their children. They were horrified when the kids started spilling things - we're in a new-build house, everything's magnolia/cream! They wouldn't stop fretting till I pointed out how many different types of carpet cleaner I've acquired in preparation for our LO! Seriously, the carpet was included by the developers & the sofas are covered by throws! It's OK!

Saw the midwife today at 31+3, had the last set of blood results back and iron levels are ok. BP was ok too, up on last time (which was quite low), so I've no idea what's going on!

I've got some iron supplements coming on the tescos order tonight, so I'll try a bit of that. My work colleagues reckoned it might be periodic drops in BP - which is what Beckie was having, right?

Beckie are you still having trouble with that? Or was it a phase? And did you find out what was going on?

Next MW appointment in 4 weeks (I'll be 35 weeks!) will be at home in the afternoon and we shall talk aaaaalllll about birth! I'm quite looking forward to it!

As for LO this evening: I keep expecting to look down and see a foot busting out of my side. He's moving quite slowly but stretching his feet right out there!

1stTime I know how you're feeling, but I fear you might be right. But where will it all go?!!

lucielooo · 24/01/2011 19:03

Petalouda, I feel very breathless/fainty/paliptation-y whenever I eat too much or too quickly, especially at lunch times. I did think at first it was a drop in blood pressure due to eating but apparently some people don't get on well with white bread flour when they're pregnant? So it could be that.. hence why it was worse at lunch time when I'd normally have a sandwich, or it could be just when I've eaten too quickly.

Is is related to eating/drinking at all?

lucielooo · 24/01/2011 19:06

On another note, we're looking at baby monitors at the moment. My sister recommended we get a video monitor. She didn't the first time but would if she had another because sometimes you can hear movement/silence and you still go an check on them to see what the noises are and if they're ok.

What's anyone elses thoughts on this?

BeetleBaby · 24/01/2011 19:45

Oh SarahJinx how I wish I could have a glass of red wine that didn't give me crippling indigestion just by looking at it. Or even better a lovely hoppy pint of bitter...ah well best stick with the orange squash! [bgrin]

Petal my Little Insect spent most of Saturday stretching arms and legs as far as my tummy would allow. While amusing it wasn't exactly comfy for me! Has had a couple of much quieter days since then so I think it was settling into a new position as space gets less in there.

I've been looking at monitors as well lucie Though I think we'll wait until Little Insect is in their own room before we get one as I can't see it getting much use till then. I read somewhere (probably Mumsnet!) that they can be useful for reassuring baby that you are still there, and they can hear your breathing while they sleep. When they've spent however many months sharing your room and listening to your own night time noises it must be difficult to adjust to the quite. I imagine it must be like when I left home for uni and had my own room after sharing with two or three sisters most of my life. Had to fall asleep to music to begin with!

Liv77 · 24/01/2011 20:34

I finally took the plunge last night and after much umming and aahing have ordered my Phil and Ted's Explorer buggy with double kit.

I decided it wasn't worth the hassle of trying to manage with either of the 2 single pushchairs I have already and a buggy board wouldn't be compatible with either of them anyway.

I have justified spending £400+ on a pushchair Shock to myself as apart from another cot or bed (i'm not sure which yet it depends if DS can be prised out kicking and screaming moved from his cotbed Hmm)the pushchair is the only piece of equipment I will have bought this time around. It's still painful though as both of my other buggies were under £100.
At least I should be able to get a good resale value on the P+T later on.

I also had my 30 week scan today and all is well. I was getting a bit worried about the size of my bump as I'm much smaller than last time round. I thought you were more supposed to be bigger with 2nd pregnancies?

On my estimated fetal weight at the scan today if baby stays on the same curve it will be approx 7lb 11oz. My Customised Antenatal Growth Chart in my folder estimates the baby will be between 7lb 11oz and 10lb 2oz. My DS was born on EDD+2 and was 6lb 15oz. Confused Time will tell Smile

JustKeepSwimming · 24/01/2011 20:44

Yey Liv - i bought a P&T second hand off ebay and it cost me 220-ish. An old style one, so yes you'll get lots of money back when you sell it.

I was hoping to use mine again for DS2 in the extra seat, but he's approaching the max weight so may have to rethink that.

PIL have offered some money toward the Recaro Zen buggy that i want, so added to my HiP grant it's not looking too expensive now - not precise on figures yet as not on sale in the UK yet!
