Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
NoMoreChocBiscuits · 07/01/2011 14:08

Neenewps I'm also rehesus negative. It never changes you'll be negative all your life. Like Lisas already said as long as you get the anti-D injections you'll be fine. Well actually any future kids you have will be fine. I thought it was 0 type that were universal donors not all negatives. I've learnt something new.

Clarkiee wow on suddenly going from 2 boys to 2 girls! I suspect that mistakes like that are the reason my local NHS don't won't tell you the sex. Didn't you say that you had girls names, but were struggling with boys names?

Bear
motherofsnortpigs · 07/01/2011 14:21

lisascat you must live very near me... I won't be at the JR either jasmine (unless something is going horribly wrong). DS turned up within an hour and a quarter of me getting in the bath for a bit of a 'relax' before the hard work, so I shall stay at home again. I now have slanket envy. Do you think you could adapt one for cosy breastfeeding? nomore I've slung the kids a couple of fruit shoots and a packet of quavers to fight over - we're good till teatime :)

Sarice · 07/01/2011 14:24

Morning ladies

How are we all today? Im very jealous of all of you with a slanket they look so cosy!

Mummynumber2 · 07/01/2011 14:30

Clarkiee Congratulations on the girls! It must have been a real surprise for you after being told they were boys! Fingers crossed for some good news for you over the next few weeks. I've met a couple of people through work whose twins had twin to twin transfusion and they now have very healthy children. I think there've been some very good medical advances in the last few years in this area. However, as you said yourself, that really is a worst case scenario and it's more likely that everything will be fine. Nurse is right, my sister had non identical twins and from the very beginning one was bigger than the other, I think with identical twins they keep a much closer eye on things like that, and am sure that in most cases it turns out to be nothing to worry about.

Supersunnyday Don't worry, you're not the only one that still has morning sickness Sad

On the subject of hair something very strange has happened to me. The hair on my legs has almost completely stopped growing (I usually have to shave every day if I want to look smooth) Grin. However until a few weeks ago I had a very hairy stomach! So, I decided, in a fit of discust, to shave it and there's been no sign of it coming back at all. The lady garden is an entirely different story though.... Blush

BarbieLovesKen · 07/01/2011 15:01

Just marking my place for a proper catch up later as Im in the middle of scrubbing my house!.

Lisacat that is my worst nightmare on here!!! do you mind?

Clarkiee huge congratulations on the girls!! thats bound to make your name choosing a little easier Smile

8rubberduckies · 07/01/2011 15:04

On the hairiness, I always had a bit of a - ahem - problem with this, due to having Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, but I have found with both pregnancies my hair growth where it shouldn't be has slowed down, whilst my hair growth on my head and lady garden has gone into overdrive. Hair growth is a hormonal thing, so not surprising it all goes a bit pear-shaped when up-duffed. I have always battled with a hairy tummy, and it has slowed down now, sorry all!!!! Smile

Congratulations Clarkiee on the girls, and try not to worry too much about your babies... Step away from the Google! Sounds like the professionals have it in check, and I am sure that you only ever stumble acorss worse case scenarios on search engines. I have also stopped watching Eastenders for the interim, would find it too upsetting, and I also think it is a ridiculously bad taste storyline, and extremely misogynistic.

Misshooha I had my flu jab last week; I haven't had proper flu for a long time, but really do not want to risk it at the moment, and my ds picks up just about everything going, he's one of those kids! I just wish we could get him the flu jab as well, because my partner has it because he has asthma, so ds is the only one in the house who has not had it this year.

LisasCat · 07/01/2011 16:56

NoMoreChoc you're right, sorry, I forgot, it's the fact that I'm O Neg that makes me the universal donor (has to be both O and Rhesus Negative, so the O doesn't get rejected by As or Bs, and the negative doesn't harm the positive....er, something like that)

Barbie I really don't mind in this instance, as the cousin in question is well aware of my gripes about my mother, and anything else I've said on here, whilst possibly opinionated in some cases, isn't anything personally controversial. If someone from work were to out me however.....

Clarkiee · 07/01/2011 17:22

Thanks for all the lovely supportive messages Grin I'm feeling much more positive today.

Yes nomorechoc my name choosing issues have decreased somewhat. DH and I have already agreed on one and I can pass on mine, my mums and my Grandmas middle name as a middle name now too (it's Elizabeth). How is everyone else getting on with your decisions? Or are you being sensible and not wasting time yet (god I wasted hours thinking of boys names over xmas).

Anyone started 'nesting' yet. I can't stop sorting drawers out. Got rid of loads of clothes. Viewing a house on Sunday but I've started thinking if we were stuck here its wouldn't be too bad (we'll just have to stick loads in the loft).

Can't believe your cousin is on here lisacat small world.

Slankets are the same as snuggies then. They are obviously the future (as long as no one other than your immediate family sees you in it). On the back of my snuggie box it says 'you could even wear it to outdoor sporting events' ha ha yeah right I'm sure I wouldn't get any strange looks if I went to the footy in one!!!

neenewps · 07/01/2011 17:40

Thanks for the blood type info lisascat and NMCB I too am O Rhesus negative.. is that how you say it or is it Rhesus O negative or does it really not matter :o

clarkie Congratulations to you that you are having girls. Very exciting. Good to hear that you are feeling more positive today.

We are still struggling with boys names and have 2 girls names that we like.

OP posts:
takethatlady · 07/01/2011 18:17

Grin at the slanket chat, and Grin Grin at the wearing of slankets to outdoor events. I'm embarrassed to see myself in mine!

clarkiee what lovely surprise news about your twins. I don't know anything about twin to twin transfusion but I'm sure the others are right and it'll all be fine - and it's great that they're going to monitor you closely now :)

Thanks for the lovely messages ladies. Red blood returned this morning (I was at Bluewater shopping, which is ages away from where I live (Cambridge)). Brown again now. Sick of it, to be honest. Also I feel saddle sore down there, like I haven't ridden my bike for ages and then suddenly done 20 miles on it. Which is weird, because I haven't done anything at all ...

Can't get the poxy flu jab because my GP has run out. I actually got shouted at in Boots today because I asked to buy it and have it administered by my GP - the pharmacist was incredulous, quite angry, and seemed to suspect me of being some sort of flu drug dealer. Asked at work (it's a uni and there's a campus GP) and they basically said feck off to your own GP, and have resorted to asking my next door neighbour who's a locum. She's put me on the list at my own GP and told me to wait until next week and not go out in public! I think that's possibly a bit extreme Grin

On the hair front, I was a bit embarrassed when I had the scan the other day and had done a bit of DIY hair removal the same day ... stubbly bits are probably not pleasant for other people to see Blush

jasmine51 · 07/01/2011 18:42

lisa and mother - well we must all live very close then because Wallingford is my local hosp. Been barred from there though cos my risk is too high..cast out into the darkness that is the JR...

I'm feeling a bit naughty this evening...I just made my first baby related purchase. I boungth...wait for it....some muslin squares from Tescos. I've squirreled them away straight into the wardrobe so noone can see...feels so naughty!

milliemuffin · 07/01/2011 20:28

Hi ladies, got my nuchal results through at last, 1:100000 so that's a relief.

TTL Have you been to Jamie Oliver's restaurant in Cambridge? DP & I booked a room on the travel lodge sale (£19!) and we're staying in the center of cambridge for a night in feb so whilst we're there we're going to have dinner there. A few friends have been and really liked it. Before we had kids we used to shop in cambridge about once a month but never get the chance anymore. Park&Ride from Madingley Road isn't the same with kids!

After dinner tonight I had a weird sort of pressure as if it was a head or bum next to my belly button but I'm sure you don't get a feeling like that til you're closer to 30weeks so I'm not sure what that was!!

knackered76 · 07/01/2011 20:29

Hello all,

About to do an assignment so thought I would quickly pop in or it might be ages before I do again! So much to catch up on so sorry if a I miss people's news.

Clarkiee My DH would be very jealous of you, twin girls is the thing he wants most and has now resigned himself to never having! I second what everyone has said, it's surely far too early to make that call and it's not unusual for one twin to be bigger then the other at birth anyway. Glad you're feeling better today and STOP GOOGLING Grin

Motherofsnortpigs My friend felt the same about birth, she had 2 home and then had to have csection for her third. She still struggles a bit with it now 2 years later.

Wading into the slanket talk, a very good friend of mine was brought one by her dh last christmas. They are now getting divorced (admittedly there are other issues, but pretty sure that was one of them Grin)!

Flu jab, yep had mine christmas eve. Arm felt soooooo sore for a few days and then the day after boxing day I spent most of it in bed feeling achy and tired and generally not well. Got over it by the next day though so not too bad :)

Crumble think it was you in hospital. Poor you, hope you are feeling better now and resting when you can. What a scary time for you. My friend had similar at 30 weeks and was terrified :(

Feeling movements on and off and not really that much to be honest. Not worried as pretty sure I have anterior placenta so won't be feeling that much anyway (had the same with the other 2).

Jasmine Grin at muslin square buying and hiding them!

TTL Sorry you're still having a bit of a stressful time of it. Be kind to yourself and rest LOTS, oh and try to be reassured by the scan that all is well.

Right off to start this assignment . . . .

loueytb3 · 07/01/2011 20:31

Hello - you lot are so chatty, had to find a whole new thread Grin

Can't do a long post now and trying to cook tea but just wanted to post a couple of things while I can. I'm a bit Envy of all of you who have found out the sex/es already. We're not going to find out but sometimes I waver a bit...

clarkiee blimey - how wrong could they be about the sexes!!! Are they sure this time?? So glad your Head has said you can finish before Easter and get paid over the holidays. Must be a big weight off your mind. Definitely join Tamba - yes you have to pay membership but you get discounts in lots of places, including 10% off mothercare if you spend over £100. It doesn't take much to spend that as you will find out. You recoup the membership pretty quickly if you use the discounts. They also do a buggy guide which is useful when you are trying to decide what double buggy to buy. I know you must be very worried about TTTS but if it is happening, the important thing is that the hospital is monitoring you closely. There is loads of experience of TTTS on the tamba messageboards, lots of people who have been through it.

tll am so sorry you are having all this bleeding. Have they said where your placenta is - just wondering whether it could be a low-lying placenta causing it. I had similar bouts of bleeding from weeks 6-10 but it has stopped. Hope things calm down for you soon.

jasmine don't feel guilty! Its the start of the fun part - and believe me, muslins are very useful for all kinds of things....

So sorry you a few of you are having probs getting a 20wk scan. Makes my blood boil. Can you call PALS at the hospital and see if they will get involved?

Dinner is nearly ready so must go (food is very important to me at the moment Grin)

bananarama05 · 07/01/2011 20:42

millie we've been to Jamies Italian in Cambridge, it was fab.

We went unplanned on a Friday night, just decided to go one day after work quite late, got there around 9pm I think. It was still packed so we had to wait in the bar for about 40 minutes which wasn't so bad as they have some nice bits on their drinks menu and meant we were starving when we sat down. Food was lovely but unsuprisingly they'd sold out of quite a few bits by the time we got round to eating. DP reckons its the best steak he's ever eaten and we've managed to venture to some quite nice places thanks to our old jobs including Jamie's more expensive restaurants and Maze Grill which is a steak restaurant!

You can't book unless there's more than 8 of you so be prepared for a wait when you get there but just relax and sample the non alchoholic cocktails :)

milliemuffin · 07/01/2011 21:06

Thanks Bananarama*, we might be meeting DPs parents there aswell as we owe them a meal out but we're aiming to get there around 3pm ish so hopefully we'll be ok. DP surprised me with a night in a hotel just before christmas and we were so tired we were in bed asleep by 10.30! How's that for romance! :)

Clarkiee · 07/01/2011 21:08

God I'm so desperate to start buying things. So far I have bought two little teddies with little blankets Bear Bear. That was when I had my first scan. Might have to buy something that will fit away in a drawer (like Jasmine's muslin squares Grin).

Hope you're feeling okay TTL it must be worrying (even if the hospital say its nothing to worry about, you just can't help it). Hope it stops soon.

motherofsnortpigs lol - I was up all night weaving the lentils and everything Wink
Sorry to hear about your probs with 1st birth - how lovely that your subsequent births were so perfect. Wish I had the courage to do a home birth, but I am a wuss. I'm gong to go for hynobirthing this time I think, as last time I used aromatherapy for a lot of it and really liked it. I've not needed epidural or instruments before, so think the hynotherapy may be a good route for me Smile - that's as far as I can go with 'naturalness' though lol.

neenewps I'm rhesus negative too - I've never had anti-D during pregnancy before (always after birth) but apparently this time I'm getting it at 28 weeks - no idea why this has changed.

takethatlady · 07/01/2011 22:34

Hello ladies,

Was going to go to the cinema but wound up at the delivery unit (wasn't really expecting the delivery unit to be the delivery unit, so all the screaming was a bit scary Grin). That's where I have to go now the baby is too old for EPU ... they did an internal check, checked my sanitary towel in front of DH which was embarrassing, and said they could see that there was bleeding but it wasn't from the cervix and the scan I had had on Sunday showed it wasn't from the uterus either, so it's just one of those unexplained things. They said there's nothing to worry about and I got to hear the heartbeat, which was going strong - the doppler picked it up straight away :)

Someone asked me about my placenta - it says 'anterior low' on my scan notes but nobody has ever mentioned it again. Don't know if it still is low.

So now I am just accepting I am a bleeder Hmm and that it's nothing to worry about. They took a swab too.

millie yes I've been to Jamie's - it's pretty good. I second what bananarama said about the waiting times - you can't book but the bar is lovely. The best thing about the restaurant is the layout and the beautiful ceiling in the restaurant area. The food has had some hit-and-miss reviews but I've been there twice and really enjoyed it both times. It's relaxed, not too expensive, there's plenty of nice stuff on the menu, and it has a great atmosphere - it's streets streets streets ahead of all the chains and much cheaper than any of the decent independent places to eat, so I'd definitely go! Envy actually - I just had a cheeseburger from McDonald's for my dinner ...

Mummynumber2 · 08/01/2011 07:41

So glad everything's ok ttl, it sounds line you have the same kind of bleeding as me. The kind that you 'just have' and that nobody can really give you any reason for. I really hope you're still taking it easy. Someone on another thread told me that bleeding should be a warning sign to start relaxing....

I don't think I'm going to have to buy anything jasmine and clarkiee. Since I spread the word that I'm having a boy it seems that everyone I know has got out all their old baby stuff and either given or promised it to me! Grin I just hope they got the sex right as I've admitted to everyone that I was really hoping for a boy!

DozyDoll · 08/01/2011 08:05

Don't worry you're pregnant and hormonal - you can be forgiven for everything and anything. Having said that I don't know what you've said about them all ...let that be a lesson to us all, eh?

Anyway, hello all you lucky pregnant ladies in your special ante-natal club. I wish I was in your club. Feeling broody so couldn't resist sneaking a peek and having an earwig - hope you don't mind too much.

I hope you are all feeling fabulously and spectacularly special because you are!

DozyDoll · 08/01/2011 08:10

OMG somebody let me out of here, I knew it was a mistake to even open the door. I want another baby for sure now. It's all the virtual hrmones floating around. This is no place for a broody non pregnant woman who can't possibly have another baby. Take care of yourselves!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 08/01/2011 09:13

Good luck DozyDoll :)

Glad everything is okay with you TTL :)

NoMoreChoc - I got confused with your name!

Barbie - is everything okay with you at work? How are you getting on with the new team?

Definitely feeling movements now!
