A shiny new thread for a shiny new year. Grin

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
snowangels1 · 10/01/2011 16:59

elle sounds like you've made the right decision re: OH. Just remembered if you eat/drink something high in vit c (eg orange juice) with all those steaks your planning it helps your body absorb more irom Grin

ledkr · 10/01/2011 17:37

elle have now read your thread.wow you go girl!!At xmas and being pg too.He sounds incredibly immature tbh,is he a spoilt mumys boy?My exh went like that-he was 34 tho and we had 4 kids.Suddenly started to smoke weed cosset fast cars dress like a knob and hang around with young kids.I then found out he had been seeing a 16yr old girl for a while.Needless to say i sent him packing, had been with him since we were kids so not easy but i was fine. You are a proper family btw,i used to love taking all mine on holiday and telling people i was an "independent parent" i was very proud and the kids were better of without him.

knittakid · 10/01/2011 17:52

elles good on you, it sounds like you made the tough but right desition, and that means you'll probably also be a wonderful mum.

PDR that's incredible. Lets hope it is innaccurate...

First NCT class tomorrow, and didn't get anythign to share for food... feeling too lazy after a days work, will they all hate me?

I'm supposed to be buying baby things, but these sales!!! why do they bring out all those lovely summer dresses now??

wigglesrock · 10/01/2011 18:17

eaurouge can you just buy the insert/baby nest thing for the carseat, know Argos do some kind of insert, think we might need to do the same. Mr Wiggles is finally off work for a few days so tomorrow is organise the carseat day!! I might try and finish off hospital bag.

PDR DD1 was 6lb10 when born a week after due date Grin. But the midwives had told me she was going to be big, and then told me dd2 was going to be small and she was 8lb8!!!

Elle lots of support for you here too.

tadjennyp · 10/01/2011 18:20

I pm'd the prof but didn't get a reply. Have also seen her on one or two other threads so assume she is ok. Perhaps she is just really busy at the moment.

I still think you are really brave elles as I said so on your thread. You will make a lovely little family unit, free from all the stress your exp was causing.

Second the taking iron with vit C.

Hope you are all having a great day. Just knackered as dh is away and both dcs were in bed with me last night. Dd has really sharp knees and ds has the world's hardest head!

ledkr · 10/01/2011 18:54

whispers do you think we've pissed of prof?

tadjennyp · 10/01/2011 19:00

Not sure - perhaps she got fed up of the stats? Confused

PDR · 10/01/2011 20:07

Deliaskis wow am most impressed with your freezer filling ? don?t think my freezer would be big enough to fill with much! Do a few pizzas count? Wink

Welcome Kermit I am due on 18th so quite close to you  Hope you are feeling ok?

Angels sorry they think you have GD ? I?m sure they?ll book you in for a Growth Scan now though no? Was your last one the anomaly scan? If so I am sure they will want to check the size of the baby now. Although due to today?s developments I am going to say it?s wildly inaccurate Wink or else I am on course for a 13lb baby which does not bear thinking about Shock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

worrymummy what a PITA re airbag! I?m sure it must be fairly common place for people to do this?! I know I can disable the airbag on my passenger seat but perhaps the issue is that the garage have to do it in yours?

elles haven?t read your other thread yet but hope you are looking after yourself xx

ledkr glad all tests ok  hope the ABs kick in soon!

wiggles how funny my baby is already as big as your DD when she was born!!!!!!!! I can?t quite believe it to be honest... I almost fell of my chair when the consultant said it was not the ?estimated? weight but the weight today! I kept saying ?what today, as in now...? He must of thought I was a loon! DH just sat there banging on about me always eating chocolate Hmm DS was 7lbs15 so surely it can?t be too far off that?! I gained loads of weight in that pg as well!
Sorry this is such a long post! You have all been very busy chatting today!

Proxy-nesting went very well today and the garage is now looking fab with shelves fron top to bottom along one wall. All paintwork in the house has also been touched up so looks as good as new. The beauty of having a whole house painted in boring magnolia!!!!

varicoseveined · 10/01/2011 20:39

Is anyone else more short-tempered than usual due to pregnancy? Then again it might just be DH getting on my nerves Grin

I can't believe how quickly time has flown this time around. I'm 34+4, bags mostly packed, just gonna get a few more items and try to decide on a pushchair. I'm more confused about them this time around!

PDR · 10/01/2011 20:56

OMG I need to stop reading about scary 19lb babies!!! Shock Shock Shock

ledkr · 10/01/2011 20:58

hahahahahaha-varicose veined that is the understatement of the year,i have been vile,i hate most people inc dh sometimes, will argue with my shadow and could kill on the spot.Just a bit more short tempered haha.

ledkr · 10/01/2011 21:05

PDR me too.Im not as scared as you as having a c section but im a bit disappointed cos i was looking forward to having a tiny nerwborn and not a big chunky one.Even dd said today "dont want her to be big"Ill have mine first probably so ill let you know, they did tell me with dd she was "huge"and she was 6lb 110z so just cant tell-that was from a scan too.

ZeroMinusZero · 10/01/2011 21:21

So who is watching One Born Every Minute?

Also, saw the mw today. I have measured 3cm over on my fundal height every time I've seen her since 1st December so she said if I'm still 3cm over in a fortnight's time, I'll get a scan. I always said I belong on the February thread (my original date was Feb 24, then it got moved back to March 6th) so maybe it will turn out that I was right. Would be nice to get in one antenatal class before I pop, though :)

ZeroMinusZero · 10/01/2011 21:23

Oh and elles I read your other thread and I am very impressed. You did a very brave thing: he is an awful man for ruining your Christmas day and doing all that other stuff too, so good on you for being so strong.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 10/01/2011 22:23

PDR OMG! That article was scary! And repeat,'I am NOT having a 19 pounder, I am NOT having a 19 pounder!'
At my last growth scan at 32 weeks they said ds was almost 4 1/2 lbs and have next scan on Thursday (36 weeks) and I hope he hasn't grown the 1/2 lb a week they say babies grow as I don't want him to be huge.

zero I watched one born and have just stopped wiping away tears. I haven't been able to watch a birth on tv without crying in months.... Blush My god, that woman was loud! Think I'd have freaked out a bit if I'd been in the room next to hers... When do your antenatal classes start? I have first one tomorrow night.

ledkr · 10/01/2011 22:57

Im concerned cos i have been 4-5 cms over for weeks and nobody bothered?what can it mean?maybe only relevant if having a natural birth.

knittakid · 11/01/2011 05:36

Morning all.
Did you all watch it? i decided not to as I don't want to see screaming in a birth-related situation, have been working very hard at taking away that image from my mind (not that I don't expect to make noise, but it'll be my noise, iyswim).
I will not be reading that article about huge babies either! Shock

ZeroMinusZero · 11/01/2011 06:35

ledkr could be because you're having a section or maybe you have a lot of fluid? I thought that mine might have been extra fluid but mw yesterday said I definitely didn't have that much.

needtosleep first one isn't until 1st Feb which is annoying. MW claimed it didn't matter if I missed some of them because the NHS ones are fairly basic, especially if you're already quite well read up on everything, but I wanted to make a friend!

One interesting thing about the screaming woman on OBEM was how the midwives kept telling her to quieten down, I didn't think they did that. I suppose it was because she was panicking and losing control, maybe.

debka · 11/01/2011 10:05

Morning all! Did enjoy OBEM last night, particularly Screaming Woman. MWs told me not o scream during pushing because I was wasting energy, which makes sense, after that I just growled (apparently) and out came DD! I know labour hurts but I did think she was making a bit of a fuss. Did Janet have to have a section? Didn't quite understand that one. Thought her boyfriend was sweet though, the way he cried at the end!

ledkr maybe they think it's just one of those things they can't do much about?

needtosleep mine was just under 5lbs at 32wk scan- rather nervous about 36wk scan tomorrow! DD was 8lb11 which was fine, but they say 2nd babies are normally bigger.

zero I found my NHS classes pretty basic too, but I enjoyed them. I was the furthest along for them too, think about 38/39 weeks by the last one, didn't matter as DD was induced 2 weeks late.

Picking up our new car seat today, DH is v excited! We're off to Midlands and Sheffield (from SE) this week, Thurs-Sun and wondering whether to put it in the car just in case baby decides to come early. I'll be 37wks on Sunday. What do you reckon? And if we put the seat in, should I also put in my (as yet unpacked) hospital bag?

snowangels1 · 11/01/2011 10:31

Well I ran out of the room when OBEM came on last night as it really freaks me out about birth (I'm extremely nervous about it all). Even just listening to the grunts/screams in the first few seconds as I waddled slowly went as fast as my legs could carry me out of the room made me cry Shock with worry. Asked DH to watch it though as I think he's a bit naive about the whole thing, so hopefully the more gorier/realistic/manic the ladies behaved the better so he knows what he's in for with me! Must ask him re: mad screaming lady (that will probably be me!). I had a conversation with a couple of friends - one who had had a baby recently and another who is a doctor who worked on labour wards for a time and the one who had a baby said she was really self conscious about making noises etc so kept as quiet as she could manage, but doctor friend said she hears all sorts (said with a knowing grin) and it's better to let it all out and not worry about making a fool of yourself. The genius of Ina May book does talk about making cow noises being a good thing though as you press all the energy into the right part of the body, whereas screaming just wastes it. Best get practicing: mooooooooo Wink

PDR · 11/01/2011 10:52

ledkr your section is booked before your EDD isn't it? The combination of the two probably mean that they are not so worried. I would imagine the two possible outcomes for a huge baby are induction before it gets too big or section if they don't think you'll be able to do it vaginally.

Just reading this reminded me to watch OBEM which I Sky+ed last night as I was watching Silent Witness instead!

PDR · 11/01/2011 10:55

Just to say I am loving Ralph and Janet on OBEM! Hilarious!

wigglesrock · 11/01/2011 11:03

I'm with knittakid step away from One Born Every Minute and big baby stories Grin Too close now to panic!! With dd1 midwife told me not to expend any extra energy screaming, may have called her something mean, then did what she said!! With dd2 midwife told me she had never seen such a quiet/calm labour, I am still convinced its because Mr Wiggles wasn't there, in fact there was no drama at all until he arrived 20 mins before end - bloody typical Grin

I always remember with dd1 there were three women in maternity ward quite early on in labour, and the woman beside me insisted on getting the doctor down, it was midwifery led care, but she wouldn't let the midwives touch her, they had to page dr (consultant care was on a different ward). He came running onto the ward, really nice man, very reassuring and asked the lady what was wrong, she just started to wail "it's sore, its sore". I know it sounds a bit mean but it was really funny, the look on his face was like "ffs you don't say".

PDR · 11/01/2011 11:18

Haha Wiggles my DH is the same re midwives/doctors - during my first labour he kept asking when the doctor was coming Hmm I think he's a lot more comfortable this time as I am consultant led care and have seen the doctor quite a few times now. In his country there it would be the doctor who delivered the baby...

Gosh that Steph woman is a bit loud - I think I would have asked her to pipe down a bit too!!!!!!!!!!

EauRouge · 11/01/2011 11:23

I've never seen OBEM, I'm defo avoiding it! On one of the (many) recent 'scared of childbirth' threads someone very wisely said that it's much harder watching and listening to someone else give birth than it is to do it yourself. "it's sore" is pretty funny though Grin

angels I made loads of cow noises when DD was born! No screaming from me but lots of groans.

I stopped co-sleeping with DD last night :( I've been delaying it for ages because I didn't really want to stop but it was getting so uncomfortable and I wanted her to be able to sleep on her own before DC2 arrived. I expected to be kept awake all night but she slept through until about 5am. I was awake for hours worrying and wondering when she would wake up . I should be pleased but I'm too knackered!
