frankenfanny · 14/12/2010 20:33

Congratulations miffster and lauren and welcome to little Tom and Indie. I would love to see all the thread babies all lined up in a row- would be so cute. Can't wait for mine to get here.

cheryl hope everything is going better now.

GreenGeekGirl · 14/12/2010 21:18

Oooh Lauren that is the most gorgeous name - Rose is my middle name for a girl too. Massive congratulations! :)

CAT They are legally obliged to provide you with a midwife for a homebirth. The supervisor of midwives will just have to find someone for you, even if they have to get someone from outside the area. Just be firm! I know it's easier said than done but I've been advised that's what I need to do in exactly this situation. Good luck and I'll keep fingers and toes crossed for you!

QoD Rubbish! Hope they both sort it out soon x

aimee0211 · 14/12/2010 21:52

Promise to catch up properly soon and share more gory details lol :o

Congrats Lauren & Aimee Grin can't wait to hear all the details and see you on the postnatal thread Smile

Cheryl, that happened to a friend of mine, she refused to go to hospital, and in the end they sent an ambulance so the paramedics could assist. She got her home birth, but said she could of done with a bit of pain relief a bit sooner. Hope it all goes well for you x x

DuelingFanio · 14/12/2010 23:25

Congratulatons to laurenamium and Aimee lovely names. Please do share the Gory details Wink

cheryl hope you are ok.

MIL's 60th birthday went well, not as scary as I thought it might be - that'll teach me to worry about stuff before it happens.

maxpower · 14/12/2010 23:32

glad that's one hurdle you're over DF

SlightlyTired · 15/12/2010 00:11

Hi all - for some reason I can't sleep which is v annoying as Eliza can (!) so have quickly caught up with everything. Congratulations to all who have their Christmas babies now, and hang in there to everyone else!!

Thought I would quickly share a positive induction story for those who are concerned about doing it. I went in on Sunday to be induced after an unsuccessful sweep and days of irregular contractions. When I arrived I was 1-2cm dilated and after monitoring my contractions for about half an hour the midwife decided to opt for the lowest dose prostaglandin gel. While she applied it, and when she examined me, she gave me a couple of very vigorous sweeps. Not pleasant at the time but she explained that it would help and her main concern was to avoid putting me on a drip so I could labour at my own pace. She was right. After the gel was applied there was a little more monitoring and then we went for a coffee, and then a long walk up and down the hills around the hospital. 4.5 hours later I was in established labour, and around 4 hours after that, baby was born with no further interventions and - hurrah! - no stitches.

And now she's in the moses basket in front of me and I'm sooooo happy. Smile I guess the main thing I learnt about inductions was that they don't have to go in all guns blazing - there are degrees of intervention they can begin with, and you can ask for the low hormone dose at least initially. And then, find yourself a hill!!

bakingkeepsmesane · 15/12/2010 00:18

Hi all, I haven't been here since august but back with happy news of Gracie May born 7th 5lb15oz. Got to local cottage hospital 4am & was home with Gracie by 1pm. Did have a toxemia scare when labour started but luckily Gracie was too quick coming to have time for 1.5hr transfer to shrewsbury & all was well. She's just finished feeding now & I've given in to co-sleeping as she won't settle in Moses basket. Trouble with that is she sleeps & I don't but get what feels like dislocated shoulder! Looking forward to reading your news now x

DuelingFanio · 15/12/2010 08:23

Congratulations Baking on the birth of Gracie May. More babies!

Still nothing doing here, though at night time I am getting what I assume are practice contractions so I go to bed every evening thinking something might happen and then wake every morning feeling completely normal.

Poor DH is getting very impatient. I am thinking Saturday might be a good day for a birth Grin

maxpower · 15/12/2010 08:58

congratulations baking all these new babies are making me jealous! I really hope this one puts in a bit of an early appearance!

CherylAnnTweedy · 15/12/2010 09:23

Morning battery died last night so not able to update. We have a beautiful little daughter born at 1137 last night weighing 8lb 5oz. Name still undecided. Apart from feeling like I've been hit by a freight train albeit an incredibly lovely one I'm feeling ok, she is doing fab and I'll update properly when I'm on laptop xxx

Hope everyone else is well and I will catch upwith all your news soon

Lavitabellissima · 15/12/2010 09:23

Congratulations baking!

On an off baby topic, my oven has been broken for 10 days, an engineer finally arrived today. It needs parts and the earliest he can come back is next Thursday Xmas Angry it's cutting it so close to Xmas. Fingers crossed the parts fix the problem otherwise we are really in trouble and have 10 people here on Xmas day!

Lavitabellissima · 15/12/2010 09:24

x posts big Congratulations Cheryl Xmas Grin

93pjb · 15/12/2010 09:29

Many congratulations to aimee, baking, CAT and families! Grin

DF I'm having exactly the same thing with the practice contractions, including the impatient DH!

kellestar · 15/12/2010 10:13

Congratulations lauren aimee CAT & baking such lovely names! CAT hope you find the right name soon.

DF GGG me too lots of practice contractions overnight hoping that they will become more regular but then in the morning all gone. DH is being really nice and tells the bump the things that it can do on the outside, it's quite sweet.

maxpower · 15/12/2010 10:14

congratulations cheryl

lavita - a few years ago, my ILs were hosting everyone for Christmas and on Christmas morning their oven packed up - they improvised and used the barbeque!!

DuelingFanio · 15/12/2010 10:31

GGG and kellestar wouldn't it be funny if we all manage to give birth around the same time! DH is regularly encouraging the baby to come out Grin

lavita my old next door neighbour told me that when she moved into her house she was 39 weeks pregnant, it was Christmas and she arrived to find the previous owner had taken the cooker with her! Thankfully all the neighbours rallied round and helped her out.

I am going to get up now and go to have lunch with my work-mate. She's missing me apparently!

CherylAnnTweedy · 15/12/2010 13:00

Thank you everyone. Smile

Congratulations to baking, lauren & aimee. Smile

Our little girl is just perfect, totally gorgeous with a full thick head of black hair! She makes the funniest, cutest little noises and I can't stop looking at her.

After the walk on Monday seemed to really drop things down we went for another yesterday morning, then about 20mins after we got back I had a show. We went to ds1's school show in the afternoon and in the 1/2 hour we were there I had 3 contractions, wished I'd bought the chair home with us as nothing at home seemed to recreate the position of that chair! Spent most of the day up and about and leant over my ball wiggling my bum! At about 6pm I started getting contractions, lasting about 1.5mins with about 4-5 mins in between, but interspersed with little ones lasting about 30 seconds. Called the community co-ordinator at about 7.15 only to be told that there weren't enough mws for HB, the mlu was full so I would need to go to the hospital. I got really upset, passed the phone over to DP. I was fully prepared for them to say there weren't enough mws and to stand my ground. Having done a fair bit of research on HBs I'd found that they would send one out, but with the speed of ds2s labour I didn't want to risk being without a mw so off we went. Unfortunately the upset caused my contractions to stop dead.

We got to the hospital and luckily they had 1 suite left in the mlu that is next to the mat ward. Mw was great, knew that I'd been booked for HB, was brill at calming me down, we agreed that as everything had stopped she'd leave us alone for a while and then come back and see how I was doing. We got there at about 8.15, so I'd been without any contractions for about an hour by this point. After a little bit some very small ones started coming - 30secs long, 10mins apart, before they came back properly at 9.10ish. She examined me and I was 6cms, but contractions were still totally manageable. She stayed with us the whole time just chatting and listening in to baby from time to time. Not sure what time but they started coming harder and faster with the contractions being longer than the time between, it felt like an absolute age until I needed to push.

MW was brilliant the whole way through, let me get on with it, in whatever position I was happy with, then the time came, one big push and my waters exploded! I mean they flew with a bang! She just managed to jump out of the way of most of it but they reached about 6ft away from where I was. Shock

2nd stage was timed at 2minutes, but god it felt like longer! Strangely though, the shoulders were the easiest part. Confused

Baby was delivered straight onto my chest, with mw saying "you won't believe what you've got!" I couldn't figure out if that meant "wow! You've got a little girl" or "Guess what? It's another boy!".

DP was brilliant, so calm throughout and helped me so much, he has bite marks on one of his hands Blush and cried his eyes out when she was born. He's said it was the most amazing night of his life, and he wants to do it all again but at the same time never wants to have to go through that again! (It will be the latter!)

All in all, I'm actually glad I had to go in as I would not have been able to do it at home. Although lucky we got there when we did as 20mins after we got there another lady arrived and had to go onto the hospital ward. This was definitely my hardest of the 3. The mw was absolutely great, didn't leave us for a second, let me get on with it and was very clear that she didn't want to examine me etc and just wanted to let me get on with it in my own way. ANd at delivery I had 2 mws anyway, so had exactly the same care as I would have done at home.

My biggest concern if I needed to be induced was to be dumped on my back on a bed with my legs in stirrups.

I delivered on the bed, flat on my back with the stirrups up to help me push. This was my choice and the only way I felt 'comfortable'!

All timed at 2hrs 25mins 1st stage & 2mins 2nd stage. She was born at 23:37 on 14th, so shares DPs youngest nieces birthday and we were home by 3.30 as soon as my notes were done.

Lavita hope you get your cooker fixed, the glass fell out of ours last Christmas Day (after the turkey had refrozen in the fridge)

DF glad MILs birthday went well and that is one worry over for you.

Well back to staring at my beautiful little girl!

ButtonAzure · 15/12/2010 13:10

Congratulations to you Lauren, Aimee, Baking and Cheryl! Gosh, theirs been a deluge! Well done ladies!!

Took my contractions off to hospital again yesterday. My lovely lovely DH rang MLU because of my crying at 9 consecutive days of regular cx with no sign of baby! He asked midwife to give me a stretch & sweep, which she agreed to even though was only 40+2. However she wasn't able to as cervix was still long, closed and facing backwards. The problem it seems is ...back to back baby - so have been told to live on hands and knees to try and get her to turn.
I'm feeling better to have something constructive to try, but have put off expecting baby to be born imminently, which for some reason is making me feel a lot more peaceful which can't be bad.

Lovely friends are visiting and have brought me a stack of DVD's. Dh is finishing work on Friday for definite for christmas and pat leave whatever so am gritting teeth, wiggling bottom lots and bracing in for the long haul, to be waiting well into next week which is now very possible!

ButtonAzure · 15/12/2010 13:21

Cheryl thats an exciting story! Glad things happened fast for you and that you had a positive experiance at the end. Sounds like DP did very well too :)
