Whay thanks TM.

STill no symptoms here at all. Lost 1 lb too!!!!

Interested to note most of you seem to have stopped drinking alcohol entirely. Why is that? Midwives and Doctors all told me last time I was prgnant that light drinking was no problem. I often have a glass of wine with dinner or a glass of champagne if we go out. I did all through my last pregnancy as well.

Really not sure I could handle 8 months without a glass of wine.

What exactly are the expected risks from light alcohol intake. I know about Foetal Alcohol syndrome from heavy drinking but other than that I'm not sure what outcome can be. Perhaps you can persuade me to give up sipping my Merlot. Lets see!

Managed to stop smoking from the outset this time though, so feel my halo is fairly well in tact.

hannibo · 22/10/2005 08:04

jen and diddle thinking of you both hope everything is okay. welcome to cr1 and i know what you mean about having your hands full, i have a 16 month old dd who runs rings round me!
flum i have stopped drinking and did so last time mainly because its the only times my liver will have had a rest and a chance to repair its self from the damage i inflict on it the rest of the time
gave up smoking two years ago before i got pregnant with dd.
hope everyone has a good weekend.

LilacBump · 22/10/2005 08:20

flum, i don't mind if i am allowed a glass of wine a week, it is still a risk of physical and mental birth defects, so i don't drink a drop until this baby is born. no amount of alcohol has been proven to be safe . and DP is glad to be able to drink a bottle by himself at the weekend
well done for giving up smoking!!!

Diddle · 22/10/2005 09:12

welcome CR1,

trickorflum - i have given up because i have had 2 miscarriages in the last 10 months and i'm not gonna do anything at all that will risk losing this baby, plus i don't think its worth the risk, we really don't knwo what it is doing to our baby, so i'd rather be safe than sorry.

Maybe i'm just a nervous first time mum, maybe later in the pregnancy when i'm gagging for a gladd i migth be tempted. But right now, where the sip i'd have would be bigger than the actual baby i am very wary of it.

ladyschaefer · 22/10/2005 12:14

Im not drinking alcohol because i really dont feel like it. I did have the odd alcoholic drink in the later stages of my last pregnancy and it didnt seem to do any harm. I am struggling to give up the ciggies this time round though as my sickness isnt bad enough to stop me craving them

Jen1209 · 22/10/2005 17:08

My Dr said a unit or two a week is fine but to be honest the smell is enough to make me gag at the moment!

Had a smear of red blood this morning which sent me into a proper panic - called the emergency Dr who said it was a threatened m/c and I was to relax, do nothing etc. It has stopped since and I have had nothing all day so everthing is crossed but I truly thought "this is it" this morning. Other than that, I am crying at anything and everything, DP is getting right up my nose and I am so tired I could cry (again)...

Right, off to sit back on the sofa with my nose in a book. Hope you are all having splendid weekends

Diddle - how are you feeling now???

Jen1209 · 22/10/2005 17:09

Oopsey - posted it twice - sorry!

kiwimumtobe · 23/10/2005 13:38

I'm with you Jen - even the thought of alcohol at the moment is enough to put me off at the moment, and I don't smoke so I'm ok there.
Pregnancy hormones have a lot to answer for don't they - I had a very weepy day yesterday and felt quite silly crying on my husband's shoulder for ages!!
Get lots of rest Jen - a book on the sofa sounds just the cure!
Out of interest - when is everyone having their first visit with a midwife? I don't know if it's the same everywhere, but I am in London and not meeting the community midwife until mid November (10 weeks). I haven't even had my preg confirmed by a doctor / bloodtest etc. - when I told the doctor's nurse I was pregnant (home test) she just made the midwives appoint. for November and that was that!

LilacBump · 23/10/2005 13:44

kiwimum, i have my first midwife appointment on the 7th of november. i didn't see a doctor either.

Jen1209 · 23/10/2005 15:31

Well in sleep North Essex I haven't even got the DATE for my first midwife apt!!!! Funnily enough though, I have the date for my 12 week scan - 30th November - just really hoping I still need it by then... I have seen the Dr (obv) who said the midwife would contact me by post with the date - hmmm, might chase that up in the week. Has everyone else got their Bounty Pack yet? My Dr gave me mine which I thought was really early?

Feeling loads better today. The smears have stopped completely (for the time being, having real trouble being too optimistic) and I am back to feeling sick all the time (how bizarre that we are all glad that we feel sick!)

However, horror of horrors, I have just done myself some home made bread and lemon curd and.................................... the smell of the lemon curd turned my stomach - oh no, oh no!!! hoping it si just because I had just woken up from a snooze and was feeling queasy anyway rather than anything else!

Gosh, I must learn not to bore you all to tears with my posts, going now before you fall asleep at your PC's!

ladyschaefer · 23/10/2005 15:42

I see my midwife on the 10th of November, i'll be nearly 10 weeks at that point, i also had my Bounty Pack at my first Dr's appointment when i was 5 weeks which is much earlier than last time.

Im also a convert to Lemon Curd mmmmm.......

LilacBump · 23/10/2005 17:24

oh i got a 'emma's diary' mum to be pack from boots (you can order a claim card on the website ). not much in there, though i did like the sample of anti-stretchmark cream it had in it.

my sickness went for about 24h and i actually panicked a little. silly isn't it! since i was feeling quite well i made pancakes for tea. hadn't made them since february and DP & DD loved them!
i was wearing a dress today (mostly as all trousers are now too tight) and DP shouted that i had a bump already.

justbetweenourselves · 23/10/2005 19:21

I have my booking appt with community midwife on Thursday, which I'm looking forward to. Really hope I get the same one as last time as she was ace. I bumped into her at the surgery about 3 months ago and she treated me like a long lost friend, and I really trust her, so I do hope to see her then.

I had such a trauma getting dressed this morning as we were going out with friends (who don't know!) and everything I wore seemed to shout "look at my tummy!". Hey ho. Eventually found something, but think I may need to buy some looser tops to get me through this stage. I'm also getting more limited with what I can wear to work, and I really don't want them to know yet.

Still feel very sick. I said to dh last night taht I was very glad not to have had any headaches like I had last time . . . so guess what! I woke up with a monumental headache this morning.

Jen - glad to hear things have settled down for you - long may it continue!

kiwimumtobe · 23/10/2005 19:48

I don't even know what a 'bounty pack' is! What is it?
x

Diddle · 24/10/2005 07:47

phew what a weekend - Well i have my midwife appointment tomorrow!!!! hooray can't wait, hopefully I will get a date for an early scan. haven't had my bounty pack yet, but you can just order them from the website, which is cheating really, kiwimumtobe - you can see them on thsi website bounty packs

Jen - very pleased to hear you're resting and that the bleeding has stopped. Mine has too, feeling absolutely knackered though, have felt crap everyday and have managed to have a nap the last 3 days. had a veryr ough weekend, my grandad passed away saturday night, so i'm hoping from now on everything will improve, can't be doing with anymore upset this year.

Jen1209 · 24/10/2005 19:58

Oh Diddle, so sorry to hear about your Grandad - Hugs to you hun, losing a grandparent is very hard, especially if you were close. Thinking of you...

Kiwimum - a Bounty Pack (well, in N Essex anyway) is a great big pack of info about pregnancy / labour / newborn babies etc. It has loads of info leaflets about drinking / smoking / breastfeeding all the gubbins really. Mine also had my midewife pack in...

Lilacbump - glad your sickness went for a little while and hurrah for pancakes - may have to make some and put lemon curd in.....

Due to me disappearing in a hurry last week, everyone in my office now knows. I also told one of my best friends when I first found out, who also happens to be a Director of the Company and I found out today that he blabbed it out at the last board meeting... I am so cross with him!!! no point being upset about it now though, what's done is done...

Diddle · 25/10/2005 07:56

Thanks Jen - hope everythings going well for you.

Has anyone got any GOOD morning sickness remedies, ginger nuts aren't working anymore.

Dana · 25/10/2005 09:45

Morning girls.

Welcome cr1 and congratulations.

Diddle and Jen, I am so glad you are both doing well now!!

I wish I had a good remedy for morning sickness. I have got 24 hour sickness and find it hard to cope at work and with DS. Just have to get through the next 4-6 weeks and hopefully it will pass.

I had my first doctors appointment yesterday. It took about an hour where we filled out all the papers, I had blood tests done, a gynaecological examination and a general chat. Everything seemed fine, apart from a low blood count, so I have to start taking an iron supplement already. I have chosen not to have the nuchal fold scan and blood test done to check for Down's. But I think I will be offered a dating scan instead around the same time and then I will have my first midwifes appointment at 16 weeks.

Dana · 25/10/2005 09:47

Oh and Diddle, really sorry to hear about your grandad!!

Diddle · 25/10/2005 14:45

i have bought some travel sickness bands as my mornign sickness is doing my head in, can't be bothered to do anything i feel yuk. keep munching all day though hope ti works too

Diddle · 25/10/2005 14:46

thanks Dana, i am totally numb after grandad going, feels like a dream i thin it will hit me at the funeral

slinkstah · 25/10/2005 16:11

hello girls, how are you all? i have not been feeling sick much at all, but i have heard of preggie pops for morning sickness, they are lollys and they are suppose to work, google them and find out more.

i reckon the more pregnancys you have the less you get sick, has anyone heard of this? i don't know whether its a fact or not but i certainly is right with me, as i was very sick with my ds, only a bit sick with dd and not sick at all with dd2(stillborn though)

has everyone been to the docs yet and booked in with hospitals?

Diddle · 25/10/2005 16:26

i ahve slink saw the midwife today and she has sent me home with a bundle of reading material and my booking in stuff, got my dating scan mid November, so i'm wishing the weeks away. feeling pretty darn rough!!! I think some people are just luckier than others when it comes to m/s slink, you'll be fine, how many wks are you? sorry brain cells are dropping rapidly.

slinkstah · 25/10/2005 16:36

hi diddle i am 5.5 weeks, how many are you now? i haven't seen my dr yet. i don't think the hospitals around here see anyone before 13 weeks anyway.
