Hi Kitty, that sounds awful :o(

I've found not sleep on my side but more upright on pillows has helped a lot, hope you get somewhere soon. Also sitting on an exercise ball or leaning over it can be more comfy. Hope you get some help and improvement soon.

Walkthedog I think smaller meals help but its something I seem to be prone to, last time I got it really badly too, and what I eat or how much doesn't seem to matter. Oh well, could be worse.

I've also just started the "great baby clothing washing extravaganza"!! I've got loads of neutral and boy stuff put by from last time, so I'm washing it all and putting neutral away and boy stuff in bags ready for the outcome! If its a girl then the boy stuff can go to friends or charity. I can't believe how tiny the newborn and 0-3 stuff is, you forget so quickly how small they are! Smile

WalkTheDog · 06/10/2010 13:06

hope you get help soon kitty. I've got hypermobility, but most of my symptoms got better when I took myself off the pill a couple of years ago - even though the rheumatologist give me "that look" when I asked him if he thought it was worth a try. Did think that they would come flooding back with all pg hormones, but so far they've been pretty good, apart from the pelvis.

I keep thinking jobi that the newborn stuff will never be worn, it is so small! Shame as we got some lovely 2nd hand next colourful sleepsuits and vests given to us, but they are only up to 7.8lbs. SIL due 6 wks after us, so there might be a chance one of us will get some use out of them.

Jobi1 · 06/10/2010 13:20

With the newborn and 0-3 stuff, there does seem to be a lot of variance in sizes and I remember from first time around it was more about length than weight. They tend to lose weight in the first few days too, so you may get some wear out of things in the first couple of weeks.

Gosh, its starting to get real isn't it!!

berrycravings · 06/10/2010 14:26

Hi to all,

I have been reading posts the past few days, but have spent the past 5 days in hospital with a kidney infection (alot of pain and not much fun but baby boy is healthy which is the main thing) but back home now on bed rest. Was on an antinatal ward which is next to the postnatal, so lots of newborn baby cries and ladies about to be giving birth. Has made it all feel very real and can't believe will have our little one in 3 months, just so excited. I am also no longer afraid of the hospital and found it a good place to be when you are not well.

childcare vs work issues are not good, I was just working out how much child tax credit we will get next year if I go back 3 days a week and think we should be able to manage with childcare costs just about, but depends on finding somewhere flexible as my DH works shifts so we would not always need childcare every week. Its a minefield.

DancingCat · 06/10/2010 16:53

Hi everyone,

am 24+3, just back from antenatal appointment which was good - discussed delivery options. I am under a myriad of consultants due to pre-existing diabetes, antiphospholipid syndrome, and being, ahem, 'older' (and tiny!) and seem to spend half my life seeing some medical professional!

Was all very icky up to about 22 week with virtually no-one medically being optimistic that my pregnancy would last - I found that attitude absolutely devastating, obviously we knew the risks before trying for a baby and as this is our first, a little encouragement would have been nice. Anyway, that has all changed over the past two weeks making me feel that I've really achieved something which is nice Smile and making me more confident. My little boy is oblivious to it all and happily kicking and wriggling away to himself! The only nice thing about all the hospital stuff is that we get to see him every four weeks.

I'm due 23rd Jan but the various professionals all say any time from 36 weeks is likely, and that they won't let me go over my due date. One obs said I would be induced at 38 weeks due to the diabetes - but I'm not sure I'm happy about that. Really confused about what's best......
But at least they talked it through a little more with me today. Doesn't seem there'll be any firm planning til 36 weeks anyway.

I do feel that I can finally start getting things ready now - we've barely done anything. Though i'm sure the mum and mum-in-law are making up for it without our knowledge Grin

Good luck to everyone xx Smile

kiwijesta · 06/10/2010 22:01

Hi again,
dancingcat we've not bought anything yet for the baby either, I'm a teacher and I think we'll have to get a wriggle on during half term.

Has anyone else started to get puffy feet yet? My feet have been huge at the end of the day for the last week. BP is fine, got all checked at the 25 week check up on Mon, so just annoying really. Its also quite frustrating looking at my cankles when I always thought that my legs were my best feature!

wondersnuffle · 07/10/2010 21:19

Sorry it's been so long since I caught up with this thread, 2 pages since I was last here!

sarrita and funkymonkey what a pain about the redundancies, I hope your DHs find something quickly.

berrycravings DS was meant to be a homebirth but I bled alot when my waters went so I was ambulanced in. For me a large part of the decision would be based on how far away from the hospital you are if you do end up needing to be there, our local mid-wife led unit is actually further from the hospital than our house is so it would have been a longer transfer time. If you're uncertain then booking a homebirth doesn't do any harm - if you want to go into hospital at any point during the labour you still can.

littlehuman (I think it was you that asked, I may be confusing names - I still believe in pregnancy brain Smile) I was told you had to have a proper birthing pool as there wasn't enough room in a normal bath for the midwives to see what was going on. You can spend a lot of your labour in the bath though, just need to be out for the birth itself.

walkthedog and luckykitty no help or useful advice on the pelvic pain but loads of sympathy coming your way.

The childcare issue is a tricky one, I am lucky enough to have a doting Granny who wants DS 2 days a week, however she's been having health problems so I'm not entirely sure what's going to be happening by the time I go back off maternity leave this time.

dancingcat that sounds awful, I think people assume in these situations that if they prepare you for the worst you'll be so pleased if things turn out any better that you won't care about all the negativity. Congratulations to you and your little boy for proving them all wrong Smile.

kiwijesta I got really puffy ankles towards the end last time so I'd imagine it's likely to happen again. They do go back down again after the birth (I know this probably seems a long way away at the moment) but the cankles are not forever.

I'm sure I've missed out loads of people, I'm going to try to keep up more regularly so there aren't too many posts to keep track of next time!

wondersnuffle · 07/10/2010 21:39

littlehuman went back to see what I missed and saw about your cat (somewhere round page 5!). I hope you manage to get the diabetes under control soon, it's hard because most cats are pretty unpredictable so getting the injections (or tablets?) in at the right time for the meals is hard work. My sister's cat was diagnosed last year and, despite a tricky start, is now doing really well. Fingers crossed you'll have it sorted in time for the baby's arrival.

jobi1 hope the hips and indegestion ease off soon.

mummychicken back to homebirths again, the mess really isn't too bad. The midwives bring these little mat thingies with them which seem to catch everything. We had an old futon matress which we weren't bothered about and were prepared to take to the tip if necessary but not a drop of anything ended up on it (and when my waters went there was a lot of blood so there could have been plenty of mess), I'll be using it again this time. IIRC at the hospital they had the same mats for the birth and placenta and the bed stayed quite clean. If you have any left over after the birth they make great disposable changing mats as well for when you're out and about Smile.

And hi to all the new people!

Think that's it now...

DancingCat · 08/10/2010 12:28

Hello everyone Smile

just home from my scan - 24+5 weeks - our little boy is 1lb8oz and doing fine Smile

littlehuman · 08/10/2010 13:03

28 weeks
hi wondersnuffle
ok pg brain might exist, went to argos on tuesday, got my wee piece of paper with the number on it , queued, go to pay and realised i forgot my wallet... yesterday went to the shops to buy myself new trainers for work, got the staff to get me like 5different pairs till they got one in my size, go to pay and guess what ,forgot my wallet AGAIN!
cat not doing well unfortunatly got tested on wednesday for cancer, getting results this afternoon.i feel quite emotionnal being so stressed and anxious for my cat and at the same time over the moon for having my baby girl inside me kicking all the time...anyway i ll see what the results bring.
about homebirth, i am quite happy to spend labour time in my bath and come out for the birth(apparently warm water soothes the pain...).
went to midwife on tuesday , got my antiD injection(massive needle in my bum!) but hey needed to be done. except that fingers crossed pg going well so far.

wondersnuffle · 08/10/2010 20:34

Dancingcat - that must be very reassuring, I know it's not for pleasant reasons you have them but enjoy the regular scans and getting extra peeks at the little one.

littlehuman Poor cat Sad, I hope there was some good news this afternoon.

I'm due anti-d fairly soon, is it 28 weeks you get the second round of blood tests as well? I have a feeling it's not long before I get turned back into a pincushion...

mamasunshine · 08/10/2010 22:24

Hello ladies Smile can't believe I haven't posted for a month Shock The days have just flown by! I've just had a skim read through posts and will come back on over the weekend to catch up as well as I can!

Have noticed lots of chat about homebirth and mess etc. I had a homebirth last summer and honestly you would NEVER have guessed I'd just had a baby...no mess at all that I saw! The MW's just clear EVERTHING and go, leaving you snuggled in bed with baby Smile I had clean bed linen on bed, covered that in plastic sheeting(from B and Q), then put an old duvet ontop for my comfort. I also covered our bedroom carpet with plastic and old sheets on top, just in case! I laboured a lot in bath, and had baby on the bed in the end being help up in a very funny position by 4 MW's! It was such a wonderful experience for me and my dh Smile Once baby was out MW's and dh just pulled off plastic and me and baby cuddled in bed and slept.

Also childcare etc, again v personal and every area is different. I would start looking now TBH. I've never been able to get a childminder here Sad So my 2 have been in nursery since 9mo Sad But they do both love it, and only go 2 days a wk now, which I find a perfect balance for us. It's expensive though, we live in a fairly cheap area and it costs us 6pounds an hr each child!

I've been pretty busy with work and the boys etc, but they're both doing well and changing all the time. Blood pressure readings have been high with consultant and MW, but keeping a diary at home and they're pretty good then, so fingers crossed. My tummy muscles have seperated which is fairly uncomfortable, so have been wearing a double tubi-grip for the last 3 wks which is fab at easing it. And have been getting pain pelvis, which MW said is the start of SPD. Really hoping it doesn't get too painful/debilitating - having a 2yo and 1yo to care for with no real help around Hmm Apart from those worries, feeling very excited about having no3 Grin

Oh and my bump is pretty big...may try and put a pic on my profile over the weekend (actually it's HUGE alreadt!) Hope you're all keeping well x

mummychicken · 09/10/2010 08:26

27 weeks

I have another midwife appointment next week and I think I might ask about the home birth thing -just in case- none of you seem to have left any mess Grin

I feel really well except for ocasional lower back pain which goes as soon as I sit.

Need to seriously start thinking about names - I've got the girls name sussed but struggling with boys. DH usless unless I want a child called Algernon (sp?)

OP posts:
crumblequeen · 09/10/2010 12:57

24 weeks

Welcome back mamasunshine the time is going pretty fast!

mummychicken we are struggling with boys names too - so far only Peter and Alexander have both of our agreement so would like to hear some other peoples ideas!

littlehuman sorry about your cat Sad

I am looking forward to starting pregnancy pilates class next week - have had quite a lot of back/hip aches so hoping it will help. Been swimming the last two weeks too. Hoping to stay quite fit to help with c-section recovery.

wondersnuffle · 09/10/2010 20:58

mamasunshine I'm trying to imagine how busy life would be if I'd had another baby between DS and this one and even the thought of it is making me tired! Your homebirth sounds absolutely lovely - I'm really hoping for one this time. Smile

mummychicken and crumblequeen I'm struggling with names as well, before DS we had a few girls names and no boys, he was several days old before he got a name. Now I've gone off the girls names I did like and still can't think of any other boys. I'd really like to have a shortlist before this baby puts in an appearance and we haven't even got that. Lots of people suggesting Noel, Holly, Joseph etc though...
I like Peter and Alexander, you're doing well to have even agreed on 2! Even if you never agree on another you've got a first and a middle name Grin

littlehuman · 10/10/2010 14:04

hi everyone

still waiting for results for the cat(vet was wrong can take up to 2 weeks to get results bk...)

got a single bed from gumtree today for the littlegirl room, so i got a comfy bed to feed her at night(and its also full of drawers underneath for extra storage!!)so off to build that this afternoon.

we sort of both agreed on 2 names but dh want one as a 1st name and i want it as middle name and vice versa...let the battle starts Grin. not being sexist but since we are the ones having to carry the baby, stop drinking, dealing with all the things that goes with pg including birth, etc... we should have the right to choose the name. nah!!

WalkTheDog · 10/10/2010 17:57

hi all :)

We haven't really done much name thinking, other than that the name on the birth certificate will be what they get called everyday. Since OH a teacher there are so many names he associates with pupils from the past and so they will be wiped off the list asap..lol! It took my parents almost four weeks after I was born to decide on my name, but I would like a few names ready and then decide for def once we see baby.

WalkTheDog · 10/10/2010 17:59

oh forgot to say, I read a brilliant thing today. Study from Yale Uni, woman who eat choc 5 days a week when pg, have a 40% less chance of pre eclampsia than those who eat it once a week or less. Did say dark choc, but not how much. I don't eat much choc, but sure I could manage one or two squares a day as a precaution Wink

kiwijesta · 10/10/2010 18:27

The name saga continues at our house too!
I'm a teacher so of the two of us, I'd of thought that I would be the fussy one, but no! DH's last name is Green and he has an extensive list of restrictions, and is very traditional to boot! So, (brace yourselves) no plants (flowers esp), no colours, no 'funny' spellings, no places, days, months, or seasons, and I'm sure there is more! All I want is a name that has a family connection and one that is not too popular.

We'd chosen 3 boys names and then she's a girl so back to the drawing board, and we can't see to agree on anything! Oh well only 3 months to argue discuss it.

Hope everyone has had a restful weekend! :)

mummychicken · 10/10/2010 18:39

I am also a teacher and that puts you off soooo many names. Have to laugh at one boy's name - Chandler - guess what TV programme his parents liked 13 years ago (in the same class there was a Courtney, Rachel and Ross!!!)

I'm too sacred to go over to baby names - I never know whether they are serious suggestions!

splodge77 · 11/10/2010 08:57

Hi all

Just checking in! Went to sign contracts on our new flat yesterday. i cannot WAIT to move now but still 3 weeks til we can get in.

Have developed a rather annoying night-time routine of getting up at 4am for a wee then i start sneezing and getting blocked nose then that seems to wake baby who starts dancing about in my tummy. Ah well, good training for the sleepless nights to come I suppose!
Anyone else getting pain in the ribs? I tend to get a weird ache there after big meals or if i've been standing up too long. Apart from that, feeling pretty good and keeping fingers crossed for no more colds! Doctors have invited me for flu jab but i don't really want to have one. Is anyone else going to?

littlehuman · 11/10/2010 14:09

hi walk the dog does nutella and pinguins count as chocolate? cos if yes, i am not gonna get pre emclampsia lol

kiwijesta dh's last name is Duck... so same for us , need to be careful to what name we choose!

wondersnuffle · 11/10/2010 22:41

It must be harder being a teacher, I find it bad enough just trying to avoid the names of other children at playgroups... and I'm another one who has a long list of not this, not that but very few positive suggestions, anything I like DP doesn't and vice versa. I'm sure we'll get there eventually.

splodge congrats on the flat, plenty of time for nesting now Smile

amoney · 12/10/2010 11:33

can i join your thread please? I am due a little boy on 20th Jan 2011. First time mum so very apprehensive / excited in equal measure!! Grin thanks all x

mummychicken · 12/10/2010 17:33

27 weeks +3

Welcome amoney Nice to have you on board.

Littlehuman I'm guessing that anything beginning with F is out in case someone "spoonerises" the name (ie swaps first letters)

If it is not too rude a question, can I ask how much weight anyone has put on? I've gained 10 pounds so far and that doesn't seem a lot to me.
