Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
luckykitty · 21/12/2010 15:45

oh no :( sorry things arent going well hug I dont know how I would feel about it all it must be shit and scary, sorry Im not very helpful but youre in my thoughts. I hope they can give you some better answers x

kiwijesta · 21/12/2010 16:38

lucykitty and beijingaling I feel your pain!
36 weeks has just got very difficult I feel heavy, have sore pelvis bones, and to top it off the usual end of term cold! 4 days inside (2 of which on the couch) have also meant I feel a little stir crazy.
Good news is that I'm going out tomorrow, even if it's just a consultant appt I'm looking forward to seeing other people again!

travispickles · 21/12/2010 17:01

Kiwijesta - me too! 36+2 and off to consultant tomorrow, like you am looking forward to an outing. Sad, eh?!
Thanks Beijingaling, will post in Stepparents.. How old are your DSC? Do you have a good relationship with them? My DSS is an only child and very indulged, I think he will find it difficult when the baby comes. But not helped by his dad and extended family treating him like the most precious child in the world!!

deedee321 · 21/12/2010 17:15

MacMomo, really feeling for you. How massively annoying to have to consider bank holidays when deciding your dc's birthday for rest of her life!! And I agree you should be introduced/told about the surgeon first. Horrible to feel they are just deciding things over your head. On a positive note, ten days till gorgeous baby appears x

luckykitty · 21/12/2010 17:33

Um i was just sitting here doing pelvic floor excercises as you do and bump has just started going mental. Its really freaking me out.
My whole stomach is moving about and she feels all pointy and sharp everywhere inside Shock
Any one else get this?!

Jobi1 · 21/12/2010 18:27

I get that sort of movement most nights, have done for weeks & it freaks me out too.
Re the CS, mine is elective & I have met consultant, but I very much doubt he will be operating & we've also had the date dictated because of xmas & bank hols. They won't have a full staff on over xmas & don't do a surgical list those days, just emergency. Its just one of those things. When is your due date? They don't like to do sections too early because of the potential for baby's lungs to be immature I think.

luckykitty · 21/12/2010 18:37

Thank you jobi I thought maybe i'd broken her Hmm

I really want to try all the things that people suggest to get things started but im scared that they might work!!

splodge77 · 21/12/2010 19:05

my baby tends to bongle about when i do pelvic floor exercises too and weirdly enough when i use my electric toothbrush!
I can't remember whether i've asked about this before (baby brain) but what do people think about getting the flu jab? I haven't had it yet but am getting scared by news stories about swine flu being back with avengeance etc. Is it worth getting when i'm this far along in the pregnancy? I'm concerned about side effects as my mum had a flu jab and got flu symptoms which I really don't want. Would be glad to hear others opinions.

LadyBuzz · 21/12/2010 19:44

macmomo sorry to hear that. You can make noises about getting skin to skin when baby is born. They can cover them up with a towel or blanket if it a bit chilly - theatres aren't cold!?! It will be worth standing your ground on that one at least.

I agree with what Jobi1 said re the consultant you will meet them before you go to theatre, I met mine just before and have no idea who will be doing this one.

luckykitty my LO is also like that - freaky, the first 2 didn't do it!

Pacita · 21/12/2010 19:56

Splodge, I'm 36+1 and getting my combined flu jab tomorrow. It also contains immunisation against H1N1 Too many cases of flu around, and I need to be fit, not just for this baby, but for my DS who is 2. Also, you'll need all your strength for breastfeeding!

Jobi1 · 21/12/2010 20:58

Also to say after CS they do give you lots of skin to skin & chance to BF in recovery.
If you really want to wait til new year & its safe to do so then dig your heels in. I can understand not wanting to go in on new years eve. Having said that, re the date, its worth remembering that under normal circumstances we get no choice at all.
I had flu jab about 2 months ago & am really glad I did. Only ill effect was sore arm for a couple of days. It isn't a live vaccine so can't give you flu.
Take care everyone xx

Parker23 · 21/12/2010 21:19

So I left a message at the doctors asking the MW to ring me today. Thankfully she did and I'm seeing her late tomorrow. So alls well.

luckykitty I'm sorry to hear you're having a hard time but I did laugh a lot at your post! Especially the #11 bit!

kiwijester I totally sympathise! I've just recovered from a cold and due to that and the snow I think I left the house 3 times in about 10-14 days! I was climbing the walls!

So anyway, I'm getting some sharp jabs to...well...what feels like my cervix! I try to work out how this is possible if the head is down etc but still confused! It also feels very heavy and low in my pelvis! I think it's using my bladder as a bouncy castle!

I've also developed very tender ribs!? They kill when I cough (which I'm doing a lot as I'm still recovering from this cold!) Right from the front and all the way round to my spine! I'm guessing maybe the baby is so big now it's putting pressure on my ribs but then I keep thinking...Is it back pain!? Is that a sign? Or is it just lower back pain that is a sign of impending labour!?Confused

beijingaling · 22/12/2010 00:17

macmomo I agree that you need to dig your heals in! Even with a c-section I thought you could get skin-to-skin straight away and as others said just demand a blanket if it's chilly. At least your DP should be touching him immediately IMO if possible. You're going to need to stand firm unless they can give you a medical reason not to wait until Tuesday.

travispickles MY DSD is 10 in Jan and my DSS is 13 in April. DSD has known me as part of her life since she was about 4 so I'm a part of her family. We get on very well. DSS was 7 and understandably very jealous of his fathers time as we live overseas so any second taken up with me is time he feels could be focused on him IYSWIM. He has never really accepted me, sees me as a rival to his Dads affections, and thinks I'm an equal not an adult deserving respect. He's not that bad tbh but I find him really hard work. It's certainly not all his fault though. He has been brought up to believe he is number one and I know also that I don't always deal with him in the most sensible manner. He will be the problem with the new baby as he doesn't think life will change and doesn't realise how much life revolves around a small baby for a while. DSD is just sooo excited she's getting a little sister which is good. Good luck and feel free to PM me as it seems like we are in the same boat!

splodge I also got the combined jab at around 24ish weeks. Recent studies have shown that giving the jab to the mother also gives immunization to the baby for the first 6 months. I had a sore arm but that was it. I think the risks are very, very small but the idea of having flu with a baby or even getting it while pregnant was just too much for me! Especially if you want to BF you wont be able to take any drugs for it (I think) if you do get sick.

Sorry everyone is starting to feel a bit fed up and achy. It is nice to be "going through this" with others though as I know no one here who is preg or with a small baby!

Parker for me too every little twinge is a sign. I woke up today with a headache and had a few cramps period like cramps last night coupled with my belly going VERY hard. DH has just left for Hong Kong until Friday night and I'm worried the baby is almost here!

Good luck ladies.

kiwijesta · 22/12/2010 08:00

macmomo how did I miss your post, I feel so insensitive! That's what you get when doing this on the phone, so sorry!

My MIL had SIL by c-sec (planned I'd say) on NYE 25? years ago and now SIL loves her birthday, there is always a party! (hope that helps?)

I was reading my hosp policy booklet on births etc and in the part about c-section skin to skin and they don't do it either, DH has already said we will insist if baby seems healthy.

sarrita · 22/12/2010 08:58

Wow! Seems like it is all go. Definitely a few wobbles out there for littlehuman, MacMomo and Hannah. The most positive part is that you will be meeting your beautiful babies very very soon. So exciting.

Good luck with all the step families!

MacMomo I agree, put your foot down if you want skin to skin.

If you are not sleeping can I recommend:

1: asking your DH/DP if they would kindly move to another bed. Mine has been sleeping in spare room for a couple of months now and I feel so much better.

2: try listening to a hypnobirththing/relaxation CD just before your sleep. You may fall asleep during it. And it gives you prompts to help you relax in the birth - which is handy.

I had a night without any sleep on Saturday as nephew was having a sleep over with DS and DH was snoring in bed with me and angry with me for going to my sister's Christmas drinks party.

I am so cross with him for being a selfish shit. I never go out, haven't had a proper(!) drink for almost 9 months, and only get to hang out with other kiddies and Mums (bless you all). Plus I am about to birth him a bundle of joy with all the sleepless nights, laundry etc that entails! Grrrrrr. He came home the Friday night before, drunk having spent a fortune at a very expensive bar, and then lay around the whole next day with a hangover being useless!

First hypnobirthing class tonight, and sister is taking DS for he night. And DS staying with his great Granny last night Xmas Smile.

Hannah1890 · 22/12/2010 10:54

Sorry to hear of all of those having a hard time of it at the moment.
MacMomothat seems really very rubbish and insensitive of your Drs I agree with everyone else push for what you want unless they can give you a valid medical reason why they cant do that for you.

I am finally out of hospital so lots to catch up on. Was in for 9 days and now just very glad to be out. All fine with LO was just my body that seems to be struggling, Have been given an induction date of 9th January(our due date) but that may be made earlier depending on how I get on. Very strange to actually have a date I will be going into labour on, although who knows he may decide to come before then.

Am also at the point like alot of you where any twinge and (slightly) painful tightening I think Im about to go into labour.

I had the flu jab when was offered it from the surgery, I did question it with my Mum though who is a GP as had heard bad stories. Was told that this is the first year all pregnant women were being offered it due to how badly swine flu affected pregnant women last year. I personally had no problems at all apart from a bit of a sore arm for a day or two.

Hope everyones feeling ok today

littlehuman · 22/12/2010 14:20

hi everyone

luckykitty your story about your cats stripping the xmas tree made me laughed so much as i got 2 cats too, i keep find my younger one asleep in the pram or the moses basket, she think they are new comfy beds or something lol.

macmomo i am sorry to hear about the c section and evrythingelse i hope everything goes well for you, how come theatre too cold?Hmm...i am due on the 31st so who knows, might be the same day as me?

hannah nice for you to be out of hospital so you can get on with "normal life" again.

sarrita omg Angry i would have been so mad at DH too!!!

hope everyone else is doing ok

we decided to go to hospital to have "littlegirl" checked yesterday just for peace of mind.(as hospital only 5 min from us)
everything is fine and she still have loads of fluid around her.i think i felt more relax afterward cos i slept more last night than i ever slept in a week! lol

9 days to go...(obviously according to due date)

WalkTheDog · 22/12/2010 15:24

excuse any mistakes as typing and trying to play with livley dog at same time!

oh so sorry MacMomo, I don't think baby is really away for long, you could ask that baby isn't cleaned, just checked, then put on you with towel/blankets over both of you.

splodge77 we had discussion at antenatal class re flu jb, even MW wasn't sure if she would have it but the corporate view of NHS is to have it as benefit outweighs if you did get it. There was a thread earlier on in year, some people concerned re liver damage to baby, I was going to get it, but then as I had got the swine flu jab last year I was told that I would be ok not to have jab this year.

parker all can just be later pg pains/practice contractions/labour. I had two intense back pains at wknd and immediately thought - oh is this it. They say if pains are regular more likely labour. And that cervix type pain is horrible.

agree bejingaling nice to know other people are feeling similar things

hannah nice to hear you are out of hosp and hope you stay out until labour and stay well.

glad littlehuman your wee one still doing well and plenty fluid :)

Had to see consultant today as MW wanted me checked as I had hoped to deliver in MLU, that plan is now out the window. Dr not overly concerned re baby's size (over 95th centile so is big) is more concerned re fact baby is not yet engaged (possibley becasue baby is too big). They can't say whether I will be able to deliver vaginally or not. Plan is to hope baby engages and I go into spontaneous labour, then see what happens. If nothing happens then I am due to see consultant in NY at 40+5 for reexam and discussion re options again. Dr talked about induction but if head not engaging and I am not going into labour I said I'd rather have ELCS. On reading seems that induction pretty useless in similar big baby/not engaged situations. Dr talked about if after 5 days of trying to induce blah blah... poor OH almost had a fit nevermind me

littlehuman · 22/12/2010 17:07

hi walkthedog my baby' s head is down but not engaged but doctor/mw(everyone i saw the last few days) say it was good and i am due in only 9 days...?

kiwijesta · 22/12/2010 17:18

Quick update from me, had consulatant appt and baby still breech so had a ECV this arvo. Only managed one attempt, too painful and then consultant said it seems quite stuck with it's bum in your pelvis. So now booked in for c-sec week of 10th Jan (39 weeks)
So there you go, big day for us, but pluses are the MW's are really nice at the hospital, and now we know what is going on. Macmomo, now we're in it together!

Parker23 · 22/12/2010 17:36

Missed me! I'm due on the 03/01 - Parker, 34 pg1 BABY x

WalkTheDog · 22/12/2010 18:40

littlehuman had a look online and quite a few folk with 1st baby don't engage until late on, seems to be that most are expected to engage wk 36/37, think consultant was adding fact of head not engaging and I am carrying a big baby, that maybe just not able to get in there.

must be nice to know what's happening now kiwi

Jobi1 · 22/12/2010 20:38

Is anyone else getting very painful movements & pain down very low, right in pelvis as it were. Oh and lower back & hips. I didn't get any of this first time around so its scaring me!

Pacita · 22/12/2010 22:15

Hello all, 36+2 here. Doesn't time fly?

macmomo, I'll agree with everybody else. You should be able to request immediate skin to skin. To be honest, I thought it was common practice on most british hospitals!

littlehuman, really nice they were able to reassure you.

Kiwi, have they not given you the option to have a vaginal delivery with a breech baby? I thought if it was frank breech this was feasible, if staff with the right experience were present. At any rate, perhaps the CS is the safer option.

I had my MW appointment today, my biggest concern being whether the baby was still breech. She had a good poke around, but could not make head or tail (quite literally) so sent me off to the hospital (luckily round the corner) to get a scan. Fortunately, not only was she head down, but she's also engaged well into my pelvis (explains the constant weeing, the back pain and yes, jobi1, the hip disconfort). I would personally have tried for a VD even if breech, I think. The funny thing is that second babies are not supposed to engage till the end, whereas 1st are, and whilst this baby is engaged, my first one waited till the very last moment. Go figure.

My 2 year old DS is poorly with a cough and a temperature. He wakes up lots and night and I end up staying (very uncomfortably) in is bed till he falls asleep. I'm shattered! And I do really hope he picks up and gets better for Christmas.

I had my flu jab today too, and am very pleased I got that sorted, as there are lots of people falling ill, and I was really worrying at getting ill before giving birth, during or even while breast feeding. I need all my energy!
