kiwijesta · 04/11/2010 21:17

Hey guys,
Its only been a couple of days but so much has been going on here!

Its been a tough week for me, I feel like I'm really growing, my skin feels like it is stretching and I feel heavy. I'm also super tired but I think thats due to being back at work after half term, oh what a pity party I am having! Never mind me!

The baby is really starting to whack, and we've seen my belly rocking and rolling now!I've not even considered packing a hospital bag yet, although I've bought paper pants!

My mum is coming over from NZ a week after my due date, can't really book tickets halfway round the world last minute! DH and I don't have many friends here so hoping to get all the help from her we can!

Has anyone started ante-natal classes? Ours (similar to NCT) is due to start soon but haven't got dates confirmed, should also book a hospital looky see.

Walkthedog - hope OH's day was, good, or at least bearable (if that makes sense?)

Wishing all our aches and pains away! :)

crumblequeen · 04/11/2010 21:21

wondersparkler I was signed up when DS was around 8 months to do the peer support training and it was for 10 weeks of 2 hours a week. I didn't do it in the end as the childcare they provided, although free, was a creche run by casual staff who could be different every week so wasn't happy with doing it at that stage!

mamasunshine sorry you are having such a hard time! Really hope you don't need to use the advice re waters breaking!

Amberc · 05/11/2010 09:14

mamasunshine - I'm so sorry you may not get the birth you wanted - a c section's not so bad - look on the bright side, at least you'll still have a 15 year old's fangita!

RoxieP · 05/11/2010 13:26

Hi I'm a newbie to this thread! Due Jan 12th. Had a bit of a crap week last week as I had a vomiting virus and had to be admitted to go on a drip due to severe dehydration! Kept getting severe pain every time I ate for days after but dr prescribed rimitidine which helped. Then had UTI = anitibiotics and have also been very constipated = lactulose! But feeling much better this week! Generally otherwise pg has been good! Bit of heartburn now and then, no stretch marks except a couple on boobs and belly button just popping!

Has anyone else noticed their baby's movements changing recently? I've seen the midwife and HB is fine so I know nothing's wrong. Is it too early for the baby's movements to be changing due to being too squashed (30+2 weeks)? My bump has suddenly grown recently so I'm guessing baby has too. x

superparty · 05/11/2010 13:35

Hi all

Hope your all as well as can be.

mama thinking of you Smile

Had 28 wk appointment on weds, baby measuring 31, wtf!!!! but NO sugar in wee this time, I honestly can't get my head round it, even on pregnancy number 6!!!
I have decided to just go with the flow and take each appointment/issue/unwellness etc as it comes. And finger crossed we get to due date unscathed.Wink

mummychicken hope you and yours are all ok

Baby Erin is now standing/falling/cruising around, I need eyes in ma bum. Only 5 more weeks of work so I can really enjoy being with her again. but in reality only 11 more weeks till shes 1, and has a new baby brother. I hope he doesn't come on her birthday (26th) as will have years of a boy and girl party on same day.

TTFN X

LadyBuzz · 05/11/2010 14:34

Hello everyone, sorry I have been AWOL for a while I have skimmed through but so much has been going on so sorry If i have missed anything major!
I promise to do better!

mamasunshine sorry you are having troubles, sounds awful for you.

I got measured for the first time yesterday and was just above the top centile - so very small for me, I was HUGE with the boys.
I have probable PGP but I have been given some excersises and it is mild so far.

DS2 was 2 on Wednesday so have been busy with birthday stuff etc, we had fireworks for him last night - he was not amused Grin

Hope everyone is well and happy.

eightisseventoomany · 05/11/2010 15:33

hi again :)
just to inform mums with little babies....we bought some fireworks from waitrose...they're doing a BOGOF on bulldogs fireworks...
all I can say is what a lot of tosh Grin
they were bit rubbish....but my twins (13 months old) loved them :):):)
so they should be advertised as baby fireworks !!
but still not worth the money !!
felt compelled to let you all know Grin

wondersparkler · 05/11/2010 21:14

mamsunshine it took me so long to read and post last night I didn't realise you'd actually ended up ahead of me, sorry to hear about all the health troubles.

And everyone else suffering as well Sad, I'm amazed how many more pregnancy complications there are than I ever knew. Makes me feel a bit rubbish for being able to whine so much about a bit of heartburnBlush

crumblequeen I'd imagine it's a similar set up here. Very difficult as I'm not sure how much I'd want to hand DC over when they were little but it gets much harder to fit in once mat leave ends.

We were going to try and find a firework display this evening but DS has spent the day coughing and being sick so have given it a miss. I showed him some out the window but he spent the whole time pointing at our neighbour's campervan (vehicle obsessed) and missed all the flashes and bangs. It sounds like toddlers are not the most appreciative audience anyway Grin

mamasunshine · 05/11/2010 21:57

wondersparkler - I'm doing the bf course at a children's centre, it's through the NHS (i think!). It's a brilliant set up, 12 wk course, all free. It lasts 2 hrs and they have a lovely creche next door with same ladies each wk (so far). They do lots of activities with the dc's. However you don't have to put your dc in, they can be in the rm with us, so several babies and toddlers rolling around whilst we chat Grin all very laid back and pleasant! We'll be able to set up a wkly support group between us at the end, and be on the end of a phone for ladies etc. And heartburn is definately awful too Grin I can't bear mine! Hope you had fun at fireworks. my ds1 was terrified of the noises tonight!
kiwijesta - hope you're feeling a bit better? It's a good job the end products are so worth it hey Grin
Amberc - GrinI love your way of thinking Grin that will be my new mantra!!! I had a pretty traumatic EMCS 1st time, but WILL have to get over it! Then VBAC at home, so may as well try an ELCS too so I've done a bitof each Smile
Welcome roxy and sorry you've had a tough time recently, sounds awful! I think the babies do start getting pretty squashed about now.
superparty - feeling a bit like you as in don't get any of it any more Confused so diff with each pg!! What will be will be, obviously as long as lo ok!

I'm obviously very vain as the only thing I'm worrying about at the moment is if my waters break whilst I'm walking down the street with the double buggy Blush What would people think seeing me lying there in my waters with bum in the air??!!! I hope not to find out Grin..Exhausted and sooo relieved its the weekend so i can have a lie-in Smile

LadyBuzz · 06/11/2010 08:35

Oh mama I know it is not funny in the slightest but the image of you in a puddle in the street with your bum in the air and 2 DCs make me giggle! (sorry) Grin

I tried to have an early night lasty night but some stupid fecker decided 10:30 would be the best time to do the noisy fireworks [grr]

We had some fireworks last night (at a reasonable time I might add) DS1 was terrified he hates loud noises and hid from them! DS2 was not bothered at all.

For those of you with DCs do they understand about the baby?

RoxieP · 06/11/2010 18:00

mamasunshine - have you already got DCs? Did your waters break before you started having contractions? I'm working right up to xmas and I'm due jan 12th so I'm really paranoid that I'll go into labour early and my waters will break while I'm at work and I'll make a big mess on the carpet. I was actually thinking whether if that happens I should stay and clean it up between contractions before I go," as I don't want someone else having to clear up my amniotic fluid! I told my mum and she just laughed and said with both of hers she had to have hers broken in the hospital when she was well into labour - and that the whole "waters breaking unexpectedly" thing only happens in films. But if you're worried about it too and you've already had DCs...Confused

WalkTheDog · 06/11/2010 18:57

roxiep from what I hear, waters only break that spectacularly in the movies, if they do break it is more likely to be a drip and you will wonder if they have broken or not. mama has to be concerned re waters breaking incase she has a problem with the cord.

gallicgirl · 06/11/2010 19:36

I have the breastfeeding dvd but haven't watched it yet. I'm waiting until my partner can watch it with me.

We start NCT classes next week which should be interesting for my partner as I don't think he's really taken in a lot of info about birth and pregnancy so far. Grin Just hope it doesn't scare him too much!

I've noticed baby moving a bit more in last few days which is actually quite comforting because I have the laziest lump of foetus around. She really wasn't moving much at all and I'd have struggled to complete a movement chart.

Just wondering, I'm due January 18th but we're spending Christmas with friends who live about an hour away. Do you think I should take a hospital bag with me just in case?

kiwijesta · 07/11/2010 10:57

Hi everyone, I've got the DVD too, have put it to one side, keep thinking its not real yet although by the undulating stomach and G (for ginormous)cup size boobs I now have, it clearly is.

Its so comforting to know that whenever I'm having an odd thought, it pops up on here, you guys are like mind readers!

We had lots of fireworks around here last night too some were very loud I felt sorry for the horses in the stable close by, went outside to light our sparklers and realised we didn't have anything to light them with! So hopefully i'll remember to pick up a lighter today at sainsburys.

gallicgirl my friend took her bag away for NY's and she wasn't due til Feb, hey if you have space, its better to be safe than sorry. I've got to get on to that! I think antenatal classes will also be a shock to DH, the only bit of advice I think he's taken on board was from a work mate, and it was to stay away from the 'business' end of things. Apparently this guy was traumatised.

How do we all feel about being the size of a house for xmas? Its just me and DH cause everyone is in NZ and our kiwi friends who live here will be travelling (as normally would I, might I add) but i'm really looking forward to a quiet day, nice food and a box set of DVD's. Am thinking of trying Mad Men, has anyone watched/have opinions about it?

gallicgirl · 07/11/2010 12:17

Ha ha kiwijesta your DH sounds like mine then! he still gets a bit freaked out when I make him feel baby's foot poking out of my belly.

Your quiet Christmas sounds lovely. A bit of peace and calm before the madness arrives with our newborns :)

Not seen Mad Men as I don't watch much telly. Have you looked at IMDB to see what people think? I do have a box set of Brothers & Sisters which I'm saving for my maternity leave.

MacMomo · 07/11/2010 15:15

spending the afternoon deciding whether to bank blood cord...

gallicgirl · 07/11/2010 16:16

spending the afternoon stuffing my face with Montezuma's giant chocolate buttons......

RoxieP · 07/11/2010 18:39

gallicgirl - mine seems to be sporadic in her movements too recently and making my worry sometimes too! Quite active today though for a change!

And in terms of hospital bag, I think yes definitely. I wish I had one packed last week as I had to be admitted overnight unexpectedly as I had a virus - of course I was really ill at the time so had to rely on DP to put an overnight bag together. Hopefully nothing like that will happen to you of course but I've decided to get one together now and keep it to hand just in case!

wondersparkler · 07/11/2010 20:44

I think it's fairly normal for movements to get more sporadic because by now babies are starting to get a sleep/wake pattern which means they do spend large portions of the day asleep, I think they are awake more by night. It was last time round I was told about this though so the memory is a little hazy!

Hospital bag - thank you for the reminders that I really must start packing one soon Grin

I think my nesting instincts are really kicking in now as I've spent most of today cleaning and tidying, I am a little bit worried by how much we still need to do to fit another person (and all the stuff that comes with them) in though.

stenogirl · 07/11/2010 21:30

33 weeks

Hello girls,
Sorry I've been out of touch. I've been lurking but not posting. Have been working hard, trying to earn loadsa money before the baby arrives (I'm freelance). Have applied for maternity allowance from the State but haven't heard anything yet.
More importantly, I went shopping crazy and have bought loads of baby things - so much fun!
kiwijesta I feel the same with the stretching skin and feeling heavy. I've done some NHS antenatal classes. They're okay. Did the breastfeeding one Friday. The video they showed I swear was from 1986 :)
But we could have done with baby dolls to hold and practise on.
Then Friday night I went to a hypnobirthing class, it was brilliant :) I feel really positive and empowered!
I've been doing all this on my own as DP doesn't want to be at birth and I'm glad cos I want my sister there. I was at my niece's birth and it was amazing :)
Welcome roxieP so sorry you haven't been feeling well. My stretch marks are little ones on the tops of my legs and my belly button would love to pop out but my piercing is in the way. Probably time to remove it.
mamasunshine. Your BF group sounds great. I need one of those.
gallicgirl no harm in getting your hospital bag ready. I really should get mine sorted.

Anyone had any cravings? I've been drinking pints of milk a day. I must need the calcium.
I now wake up regularly in the night to pee and often I cant get back to sleep for hours :(
Anyone else feel really hot? Baby is like a hot water bottle. I barely wear anything around the house now.

We are all getting so close now to meeting our babies. I'm bursting with excitement!

cotswolder · 07/11/2010 21:42

Kiwijesta - think I'm actually quite looking forward to being size of a house for christmas! nice few days relaxing and DH has decided that beacuse he doesn;t think I will be able to get close to kitchen worktop he will in charge of cooking xmas dinner for my parents and I! Can't wait to be waited on :)

as regards hospital bag - I had reduced movements start of last week, scared myself and ended up on tracer in maternity suite - all fine!. DH actually realised that I could have been admitted and that baby could, theoritcally arrive from now on! Needless to say a bag is being packed and he had me in Sainsbury's today buying some babygrows seeing as they had 25% off clothing. He is going into project management role!

I was also going to raise nesting and wondered whether this had affected others???? seems to be my worst aspect so far. We had an extension built which was finished last month and I'm now wanting to paint / sort through the rest of the house. Have so far sanded and painted stairs and skirting boards, rearranged main spare bedroom including moving bed!

On positive side we picked up a really lovely traditional rocking chair today for the prospective nursery! DH found it on ebay - bargain! :o

cotswolder · 07/11/2010 21:45

meant to also ask where you all got the breastfeeding dvd from?

Roxie - meant to also say hello - seems we have the same due date of 12/1. Bit confused with mine as my paperwork from dating scan had one date and 20 week scan had another. not quite sure which one I should be working from!

RoxieP · 08/11/2010 12:08

Cotswolder - seems we had exactly the same movement worries! And re due dates, yes I have had 3 bandied about so far, one based on my last MP, one one my 12 week scan, and one from 20 week scan! Think they just tend to go with the most recent. Go with the one that's on you notes - I keep having to check as I forget because it's changed so often! Can never be precise anyway I don't think!

Re: nesting - I had a mad panic last week as I realised we had NOTHING, but we had loads of bills to pay all at once recently so a bit broke. So I put an ad on freecycle and after getting just 4 responses we have more or less got EVERYTHING we need! Cot, pram, clothes the lot. Of course in an ideal world I would love to have everything all pristine, shiny and new, but I am not adverse to secondhand in these early months as I'm sure my child won't end up emotionally scarred!

So, have a living room full of stuff that I now need to sort through, clean, wash etc. Anything that I decide I don't want I'll put back on there. I feel soo much better! It's a start - I may decide to replace some of it bit by bit which will be much more affordable.

Anyone got PUPPP? Google it. A new pg aliment that I hadn't heard of but is now blighting me! Basically an itchy red, spotty rash on bump - apparently v common (in first pgs) and harmless but itches like mad and looks pretty gross. Had to call delivery suite on friday night when it suddenly just appeared, just to make sure I shouldn't be worried. Anyone else got it/even heard of it? Oh the joys!

cotswolder · 08/11/2010 13:28

Roxie - not one I had heard of although have been getting a bit itchy! I'm generally ok really compared to many here so can't complain really - work also very quiet so getting plenty of time to rest which helps!

I'm also really impressed with the shopping! May have missed it but do you know what you will be having? We don't and I think I'm holding off alot until after birth - clothes, nursery decoration, bedding etc etc as really not sure what colours to get - and I really love some of the stuff you can get - secretly want a little boy so I can get babygrows with little trains on - cheesy I know!

Had a lovely night out with DH last night at fireworks display with meal after.

RoxieP · 08/11/2010 14:07

I'm having a girl. About 2 days before my 20 week scan I saw this gorgeous hand made dress at a craft fair that I really wanted to but but couldn't as I didn't know, so I decided then to find out... Was secretly hoping for a girl too!
