...and we're gliding towards the third trimester, draped in suitably flowing attire.

I sympathise re work button - we're just going through a first round of redundancies. We've been assured that the staff in our office won't be affected in this wave, but there's no idea if/when a second wave will take place. It looks like long term they'll go down the merger route with another local Trust. A bit of me hopes it all happens while I'm on mat leave and a bit of me hopes it'll all get left until I go back to work. But it's horrible.

laurenamium · 22/09/2010 09:06

im 30 weeks today!! :o arrrgh its going so quickly!

notso · 22/09/2010 12:26

Cheryl am nervous now, where the f**k do they inject you with Anti-D for it to make blood go in your knickers?
I have mine next week and was expecting it to be in my leg or side of stomach.

Miffster · 22/09/2010 12:53

Yeah, do tell, got mine tomorrow!

CherylAnnTweedy · 22/09/2010 13:21

They offer it in your bum or thigh. Having had it once in my thigh I stick with bum every time. It bloody hurts, but a lot less than in the thigh.

I think I must have low iron levels, had a weird phonecall from the doctors this morning and it seems I have to collect a prescription for ferrous fumerate (well I gather that's what it is from her pronunciation - "fez fumeat") tomorrow, she sounded more confused than me. That may well explain the headaches I've had for the last couple of months that I keep forgetting to tell the mw about.

Also sympathies for everyone with redundancies hanging over you all. I was made redundant last year (decided not to go back to work - better behaved children & an extra £20 a week as a single parent were pretty strong reasons not to Grin). Then DP was made redundant when he moved down here so we know what you're all going through. Sad

Wholelottalove · 22/09/2010 13:21

button and maxpower are you bth public sector? I am and we have a lot of redundancies coming our way in the next financial year. I know if I have a job to go back to it won't be the one I'm doing now so I'm trying to stay relaxed about it and think of alternatives, especially as for various reasons it is not what I'm passionate about. Or maybe I'm in denial!

Thanks everyone for reassurance re odd position. I know the baby has ages and ages left to move before it gets itself wedged in one place.

Good luck for all those who have to have injections, sounds stressful :( A few years ago I used to be on the depo provera for contraception which goes into your bum - very pleasant.

lauren 30 weeks! Time is ticking on isn't it? I still feel like have ages and ages to go, or maybe I'm remembering the loooong last couple of weeks with DD, she was 8 days over and it felt like forever.

It will be strange if I get induced as it will be after Christmas but whatever happens I'll be having my baby in 2010 as I'm due 17th Dec so can't imagine I'd go past 30th Dec. At least I hope not... I wonder if a birthday on Xmas day or New Year's Day is preferable. You'd get a big party New Year's Eve but then everyone would be hungover on your birthday.

MrsS hope you get your housing sorted soon, sounds really stressful.

CheeseandGherkins · 22/09/2010 13:28

Had midwife this morning and my glucose level was 7.8 which was the border line for high blood sugar after the glucose challenge, but that was if you'd eaten; I hadn't eaten since the night before....so it's high...I'm booked in for a GTT next Friday morning at the hospital.

She's also breech and op and spoke about the low iron levels. No wonder I can't breathe properly and am being kept awake at night with kicks to my hips considering her position. I have a feeling that she'll stay this way too but we'll see. I have a scan at 30 and 36 weeks anyway because of the echogenic bowels and a consultant app on Monday for a swab so that should cover everything!

Phew, will catch up later, so exhausted, didn't sleep until 2am then woke at 3 for a wee and kicking and got up at about half 6.

Strix · 22/09/2010 13:28

I am having a bloody stressful time. My client is not happy with me. I think his expectations (massive scope creep) are the the problem. But, hey ho he is the client and it is my job to make him happy, which means longer working hours. So, I am very jealous of people who can afford long maternity leaves and part time jobs. I am working through Dec 10, 6 days before DS2 enters the world. Yesterday was really crap at work. But I got through it... Spoke to DH last night and he is convinced the company he works for is about to go belly up. Some of the staff won't be paid this month. He thinks he will be. But, boy oh boy is this a shit time for him to be out of work. But, not only out of work, he is worried he won't get salary / expenses paid. Yikes!

I hope there is a light at the end of this tunnel.

Then, I walked by a very tiny baby in a car seat in the office (someone on mat leave must have come in for visit), and I thought oh I can't wait to meet mine. Smile

kellestar · 22/09/2010 14:11

right, finally managed to catch up on everyone's posts.

MrsS hope your housing situation gets sorted soon, fingers crossed. You know we are here with a figurative shoulder.

DF had the same worries as you, I'm booked in for a 32 week scan [thyroid and high BMI benefit] and hope they'll confirm measurements again. I was sure my EDD was 6th Dec, but they initially said 13th and then 12th. Fundal height 31cm outside of the grey range for 28 weeks.

GTT & Hemo results are back and clear. Though I still have bruises from the 14 failed attempts to draw blood the first time. Different MW on return and she pricked me first time, but has left the biggest bruise. I had my appt on Monday. I went to Doctors yesterday and they were running late, so an hour later got seen, and I'm signed off for 5 weeks. Cleared my inbox via webmail this morning and set my out of office up. Fingers crossed it all goes well for them. And in 5 weeks time, I'd arranged to have my AL kick in 6 weeks before EDD.

I've been advised that if LO measures up large/long and with my SPD I may be induced before 40 weeks. Fingers crossed now I'm resting it'll not get worse and that things will progress naturally.

I think LO might arrive a week earlier than EDD, but I'm none too worried if I go overdue over the christmas chaos, MW's maybe in short supply, but they wouldn't cut staffing back just because of the Holiday Season, they do say that it's better for mum as they won't schedule elective C sections or Inductions then, so you may have extra support. I know some of the MW's planned for that time as well, mainly Guide parents and a few friends as well. As my family are all local to me and the RUH in Bath I'm not so worried about where I shall be, we are sticking to the normal routine. My parents for morning and lunch, his parents for afternoon and tea, but equally they have been briefed that I may not be much fun. My family nicknames include megab*tch and viciouslittlething, as I can be a teens bit grouchy.

I have finished clearing out rooms, we have carpet in our house for the first time in 7 years. Baby's room is painted [DH] and furniture re-arranged. I have a second hand cot, with a new mattress. I am looking for a second hand crib for our room. The chest of drawers held my paperwork for Guides, which I have now scanned and is stored electronically, so that's ready for baby stuff to go in. But that's about it. I have so much to get in really. Off to Ikea on the weekend to order the sofa, I so want it in before LO arrives. Our current sofa was my grandparents when they came back from Aus, about 40+ years ago, faded, lost stuffing, uncomfortable, but was fine, while we did the house up. But that's the last thing for the house, then it's all baby stuff.

Thinking of everyone having stress about redundancy/work issues/medical issue son this thread.

Ooo I did buy a second hand babasling on eBay, but can't work out where to put the baby, as my mahoosive boobs seem to fill up that space. Ah well, may have to wait and see.

Miffster · 22/09/2010 14:24

Anyone else having lower back pain?
I am doing that classic pregnant woman stance, with my hands in the small of my back.

It's quite twingey on one side, and if I wasn't in the office I would go and do some yoga stretches as that is the only thing that helps. I have a sway to my lower back anyway, i can see the next 2 months really buggering it up.

Oh well some of decision taken from me - signed off sick until Monday . Dr says completely inappropriate for me to be put in this situation and she is a "company" Dr. She is going to write to housing people on my behalf to try to get some action. Long chat needed with DH tonight I think! On train on way home - madness get sent home from work sick and still have 4 hour journey to get there!! Good job I'm only 29+5 and not 30 weeks pregnant eh!!! Sorry trying to maintain my sense of humour there!!! Will try and read everyone else's
posts now and stop being so selfish in my misery Grin

Miffster · 22/09/2010 15:47

kellestar and MrsSnaplegs, glad that you have been signed off and are therefore getting better support.

OP posts:
MrsSnaplegs · 22/09/2010 16:01

Miffster - have you thought of using an exercise ball instead of your office chair ? may help with the discomfort I find the longer I sit in one position the worse it is moving around helps

Kellestar - have to confess I have brought work laptop home with me although can't connect to work network until I get the right dongle! Does mean I can crack some of the long term projects fairly quickly in the peace at home

Strix you are as bad as me so I won't try and tell you to do less just be careful and look after yourself !!

Wholelottalove - ooh I've used your name so much on iPhone it comes up on autospell now! I am public sector of sorts and if they offer right package for redundancy I may consider it this time - I have been with same "company" for 18 yrs now maybe I should see what rest of world can offer especially as I am pensionable now.

notso · 22/09/2010 16:22

Hello all, sorry to hear about people having work and redundancy problems.

Can sympathise with those with back/PGP/SPD pain too, mine is becoming increasingly uncomfortable, am going to ask the consultant for physio to see if he thinks it's worth it as M/W doesn't.

I was really excited earlier as I thought I had been selected as a QuinnyCaster meaning I would have been given a brand new Quinny Zapp Xtra. I was sent an e-mail with the list of winners and my name was on it but unfortunately it was just someone with the exact same name BOOO.

Been helping out at DC's school today making marmalade flapjacks, really enjoyed it and it made me miss working.

Am having really strong Braxton Hicks contractions and lots of them, some are so strong I have to stop what I'm doing until it's over, don't remember them being this strong with DD/DS.

OnlyWantsOne · 22/09/2010 18:58

Hey all

Went to Asda today and bought 5 pairs of cotton pants for about £2 and some huge over sized 100% cotton t shirts to labour in - fab

and some tiny little snuggley socks :) so cute made me cry a bit in asda, FFS!!! 30 weeks so scary, in reality, I need everthing ready for in about 7 weeks dont i?

DD is still poorly and DP and I had no sleep last night at all, rubbish!

Consuktant appt tomorrow, hope he signs me back over to MLC

xx

maxpower · 22/09/2010 20:05

WLL yes, I'm NHS. I'm the main wage earner in our house and DH is NHS too so there's a bit of a double threat. I really like my job and I'd hate to lose it. I was really stressed about it all earlier in the year when the true horror of the situation was revealed to us at work (thankfully this was pre-pregnancy). I'm trying not to worry about it now. At the end of the day, worrying won't make the slightest bit of difference. I just have to hope that long term, I have a job.

CheeseandGherkins · 22/09/2010 20:17

strix sounds like you're having an awful time lately :( not good about dh's work either. I had that feeling today too, saw a teeny baby and couldn't help smiling at him and wondering about meeting our little girl :)

kellestar your poor arms! Worse than me, they take a few goes to get my blood usually but 14! Glad your results are clear. I have a feeling mine will be early too but no idea why.

Miffster I haven't had any lately, mainly hip and inside front pain from baby kicking.

MrsS hope the time off helps and the letter from the dr, sounds very stressful for you.

OWO good luck for tomorrow.

What does white blood cells in urine mean btw? Meant to ask earlier as I had +2 in mine, leucocytes I think? Midwife asked if I had any signs of a urine infection and I said no so she said she wouldn't test my urine yet, I had to wee on the stick thingie so there wasn't a sample. She said she would if I had them again when I go back in 2 weeks or so. Any ideas?

maxpower · 22/09/2010 20:23

C&G DH says it can be a sign of infection

Chooster · 22/09/2010 20:38

Its awful to hear of all the redundancies - we had a mass applying for our jobs exercise last year which I made it through but the next wave is next year. I'll probably be on mat leave when it kicks off which I'm not sure is good or bad. I've been made redundant while 5 months pregnant before. BUT, hopefully DH will get a job soon... He's recently applied for a fab new job which is only about 20 mins from where we live, it looks intersting, good company etc... Mega huge fingers crossed for him Smile. It would make my mat leave so much more relaxing for us all.

And the pain thing, miffster I have quite a bit of lower back pain, particularly on the right hand side. I also do the pregnant 'sway' thing when standing! My MW said it was mainly because my stomach muscles were so seperated that my back was having to compensate for my poor tummy muscle tone. She advised physio but to be honest I'm just too busy... Like others on here work is manic. I've worked every night at home so far and about 4 hours on my day off today. Worked last weekend and on call this weekend! Mat leave can't come soon enough...

By the way, does anyone want a second hadn Amby natures nest - my good friend is selling one with the jump jump (baby boucer) and its in grat condition. I'm going to sell it on ebay / gumtree for her but just wondered if anyone here was after one?

Right more work!!! grrrrr..... but on the plus side DH bought some lovely choccy mouse today which I'm about to help myself to now the boys are in bed.

Chooster · 22/09/2010 20:41

Mmm, dont know C&G - at least they dont sound too worried about it? its not nice though is it when left with an unanswered question like that for a couple of weeks.

maxpower · 22/09/2010 20:52

fingers crossed for your DH chooster

MrsSnaplegs · 22/09/2010 20:54

chooster loving the chocolate mouse Grin or is it mousse ? Either way chocolate yum yum!!

laurenamium · 22/09/2010 22:58
