Hi qwerty I have a similar problem to you. I work in mental health and visit people in their own homes, some of whom smoke. We've got agreements where they don't smoke when staff a're there, but it's still VERY smoky when they smoke heavily all day otherwise. I just try to sit by an open door or window and spend least time possible in that environment. It has increased my nausea though. I'm reasoning out that it's minimal contact with smoke and my mum carried three healthy babies smoking like a chimney! Since I can't do much about it I'm best not getting too stressed over it.

Having said that, I'm currently taking my second day off work with nausea and 'wobbliness'/dizziness. I feel guilty for taking time off with 'only' nausea but as I'm actually wretching I decided it wasn't wise trying to drive 50 miles a day. Anyone else taking time off for nausea?

Much much much sympathy to junebug, must be awful to think you're on the edge of hyperemesis... maybe this pregnancy will be different, I believe that hormones can vary especially if the babies are different sexes so fingers crossed things improve.

cowboylover I'm definitely starting to show! When I'm laid down now, rather than everything sliding slightly and leaving me with a flat stomach between my hip bones I've now got a little bump! It's not very obvious when I'm stood up as I normally have a rounded tum anyway, but someone at work who knows I'm expecting told me you could see my bump but hadn't wanted to point it out 'till I mentioned it first! I'm 9+2 now but think it's mostly down to having rubbish tummy muscles. Worrying 'cos going off this I'll never fit my wedding dress in December Sad

Hello everyone, sorry it's been ages since I posted, been feeling too crap even to mumsnet in my little spare time!

Purplebuns - hope everything's ok for you and no more bleeding.

Tinwe, yes I've been taking time off work and feel really feeble and guilty about it. Had two days off a couple of weeks ago and then again took today off (although actually worked from home today) - woke up this morning and felt like I couldn't get out of bed and really nauseous. Like a few others, I had been feeling rather better the last week and thought I'd turned a corner, but got bad headache on Tuesday evening and the nausea's come back with a vengeance.

jbells · 30/09/2010 18:09

hey all, just bin reading thu, i think i am around 8 weeks pregnant and due on the 7th of may, i have a DD who is 17 months, so next year shud be fun lol

sesamesmith · 30/09/2010 19:18

Good news! 2 days of feeling less awful! Came to a head with tears at 3.30am Tuesday morning thanks to incessant sickness. Hubby was so lovely though.

Plus: cherry tomatoes and, believe it or not, sex! I really didn't fancy it, but perhaps it's what's made the difference - a few feel-good-hormones to counteract the other ones.

Re covering up the snacks: coming up with excuse of a bug, and funny breakfast time - covers eating, eating, eating.

Roast dinner at lunchtime today - superb :)

Qwerty that's such an awful situation. Can you tell him you had an asthma attack after the last meeting and would he mind taking a smoking break away from your meeting? Failing that, position yourself by an open window? Oh, and we're both self-employed. Just trying to save the pennies... I know we'll cope - we have so far!

Mrschemist - ha ha, made me laugh (sympathetically of course) about the throwing up. God help you if he gets man flu!

Purplebuns · 30/09/2010 19:44

Still had some more blood and its fresh :(

Not sure what it means as it is still a little bit and no pain :(

I haven't bled before so I don't know if it is serious or not? I could do with some advice really, do I need to ask for a scan tomorrow?

Glad some of you are feeling better though :0

Hi purplebuns sorry to hear you're having a worrying time. I'm sorry I can't advise you with certainty but i'd guess that you did the right thing contacting the hospital earlier and i'd try not to worry (if that's possible). I believe quite a few people bleed and go on to have healthy pregnancies. I'd ring the hosp again tom unless you get any pain or heavier bleeding in which case I'd get advice immediately-better to be safe than sorry.

thanks for your reply rollercoasteryears, glad to know I'm not the only one having time off. If I feel like now again tom I may have that off too!

Has anyone's morning sickness definitely stopped yet? If so, how far gone are you? I think I must be one of the furthest gone 'cos I'm due early May and no sign of any easing yet. Suppose I should just be patient and wait for 12 weeks...

Tinwe · 30/09/2010 20:23

sesame smith quite fancy trying your remedy but just don't want to kill the passion by gipping on him mid act! Will monitor for a safe window to give it a try Wink

Yorkstar · 30/09/2010 20:40

Hi Jbells welcome to the group :)

Purplebuns are you nearly 10 weeks now? i know you are one of the early ones. I would ask for a scan to be honest. My female gp was very understanding and booked in in immediately and im so grateful for that, I don't think i could have stood the worry. If it gets worse in the night, you couls go to A and E, that's what gp said to me while i had to wait a day for my scan. Sorry to hear you are going through this. Will be thinking about you.

Tinwe my ms disappeared at 9 weeks and i thought 'great, that's it' - returned at 10 weeks and am still suffering from nausea and was actually sick yesterday morning on the floor. Also, don't have much appetite at all and can only eat small portions.

comboylover i started showing this time about 8 1/2 weeks. Couldn't do my trousers up. Looking more shapely am wearing baggy tops to hide as don't want to tell my pupils till after Oct half term when i'll be nearly 15 weeks - if i can make it that far of course!

Had a good chat with dh last night and we have decided we need to make more time for each other. Obviously we have things to work on but feeling more positive today about the situation. Thank you for all you advice, it was much appreciated :)

Hi, yes I am 9+2 or +4 I only have an MIU locally, they said to ring out of hours doc if painful and heavy.
If I have a scan I will have to catch a bus to another hospital 35 mins away, DD is still going to childminder so I have freedom tomorrow. I think If it continues I will ring out of hours GP later as they might be able to refer me??

Thanks for your kind words :)

Purplebuns Sorry can't be much help here as haven't suffered with bleeding on either of my pregnancies but I know many people do. You sound as though you need some reassurance so I'd push for a scan if you are able to.

Yorkstar Thrilled you and DH had a good chat, keep talking and I'm sure life will get easier for you both (despite the best efforts of your hormones and of course, the added problem that he is a man! :o )

Loopy How are you feeling? Is everything ok?

Time off is completely justified if you're feeling awful; don't forget you are busy growing a little person so don't think you're being a wimp for a second!

Still had some fresh blood, still just a (small)wipe, but they add up Confused

I rang the out of hours but hung up on their message, as I am not sure whether it is an urgent thing, or not as I haven't cramped or clotted although had a slight achy feeling :(

OP posts:
sesamesmith · 30/09/2010 22:30

Purplebuns - persevere with the out of hours if you're worried. The docs get paid enough to sit there and be on call, out of all our taxes, so don't worry about using them. Remember there's always a guard-dog reception-type person, who is NOT medically trained and cannot make decsions on what you tell him/her. You could also try NHS Direct (0845 46 47) - they're pretty helpful.

Having read that we're supposed to keep active, and despite feeling somewhat rubbish, played tennis tonight after filling my belly with curry, and really enjoyed it (the tennis AND the curry!). I can recommend 'getting out there' girlies!

fijibaby · 30/09/2010 22:39

Purple It must be very worrying, push for a scan if that will settle your mind, I'm all for reassurance rather than allowing imagination to wander into the unknown. The aching can be completely normal as everything stretches out, particularly as this is your 2nd pregnancy.

southpacificfish has the right idea about time off... we are doing very important work building little people; we're not slacking!

My boobs have arrived as have the mad dreams which as least give me something to think about now that I'm waking in the middle of the night. I'd forgotten about this stuff from last time... how soon we forget!

Purplebuns · 30/09/2010 22:39

I have got to wait for a call back within the next hour, still bleeding and had some little clots :(

OP posts:
fijibaby · 30/09/2010 22:51

Purple keep us posted. Sending positive nestling thoughts to you.

Purplebuns · 30/09/2010 22:55

Thank you, I just have to sit tight and wait.
no mention of an appointment or anything, I just have to wait and see.

The only thing remotely soothing the doc said was that 90% of miscarriages at this stage are due to genetic defects and they wouldn't have survived anyway. I only found this soothing as it means it isn't my fault and probably better for the baby to go now if it doesn't stand a chance, I guess :( :(

Still only teaspoons of blood so far so I am hoping for the best. :)

OP posts:
fijibaby · 30/09/2010 23:04

Being told "this is nature's way" is all well and good and it is important to remember that whatever happens it is not your fault, but I'm sure it doesn't make the waiting any easier.
