Her name is Francesca Charlotte, she was a whopping 8 lbs 11 1/2 oz and she was born on Monday 16th May (7 days late) at 3:48pm. Official labour time 1 hr 48 mins.

Here's the full story: I went in at 9am Monday morning with contractions every 5 minutes. By lunchtime I wasn't progressing and the midwife thought that the baby was facing the wrong way. So we went home and I had a bath. I then had a show and went from 0 to 8 cm dilated in about an hour which I absolutely do not recommend to anyone. It was a 1 hour long full strength contraction and I had no pain relief! We got to the hospital and I went straight into the birthing pool and was given lovely gas + air. Just under an hour later she was born in the water as planned. There was meconium in her waters and the cord was wrapped around her neck twice which was a bit worrying but she was fine. I wasn't expecting such a big baby though and I did get a nasty tear. We were home about 5 hours after the birth. So in the end, I got the birth that I wanted but at about 3 times the speed.

My daughter is beautiful and we are both absolutely fine.

What a lovely speedy birth and what a beautiful name for your daughter. Was that your first baby?

coppertop · 18/05/2005 18:44

Congratulations and oooooooooh! at the thought of that dilation!

logic · 18/05/2005 21:13

Thanks everyone!

This was my second baby, Rochwen. My first baby was a little 7 pounder and took 10 hours to deliver - hence my shock at this one!
