last but not least here is the birth story of our fifth baby....

bit emotional here.

Monday 6 April asked to come to hospital as 14 days overdue, for induction. Blubbing to friends as we dropped off the other 4 children. Placed on CTG, had a new fangled thingy called propess inserted, a slow release hormone for induction. To be checked in 24 HOURS!!! Only had tightenings and fell asleep overnight on antenatal ward. I had thought I was meeting baby Monday, but no the saga continued another day...

Tuesday 7 April, awoke to stronger tightenings, lets call them contractions then. Had to breathe through them. Asked for MW, she examined me, 2cm dilated. Well that is something at last. Called DH back to hospital after arranging childcare. Plan was to transfer to LW for ARM.

Arrived LW 9 am. Blubbed again on seeing a delivery room for fifth and final time. Thinking I might need G&A soon. 9.40 need G&A. MW explains baby is not engaged so defers to registrar to break waters as there was a risk of cord proplapse and ECS.

10.15 ARM done successfully, pressure applied to top of my tummy to squeeze baby into position. I am only 3 cm dilated. He says to reassess me in 4 hours. Ha! I said I am having this baby by lunchtime, and I was quite hungry, as well as serious about my quick labours!

11.07 Been breathing on G&A, quite painful and feeling like I just didn't have the energy for this anymore. Deceleration in baby's heartrate, told to turn on my side. Examined and found to be 8 cm now. Felt absolutely blinding pain, like crowning pain. MW discouraged me from pushing, this will be bad for me she said. Looks pretty bad for me too I thought. In my notes it said "unable to resist strong expulsive urge".

1110 look away now if you are squeemish - cervix advancing with baby's head. Blinding pain again.

1115 I just couldn't stop, MW tried to hold cervix back while I delivered baby girl through 8cm. Don't try this at home!!!

No tear as I probably never felt crowning at all anyway.

Registrar returned and thank god my cervix bounced back undamaged.

On drip for three hours to rehydrate and help uterus contract.

Total labour 50 minutes.
Baby girl 7lbs 8 ozs.

so my longest pregnancy ended in my shortest labour, fifth child and 41 years old....I am not doing it again promise!!!

Congratulations! I had a look at your photos too and she is adorable. I am sitting here at 34 weeks with number 4 so probably not a good idea to read your birth story (!) but I'm glad it all worked out in the end.
