Little Ryan Max arrived on Sunday 10th April at 12.44pm weighing 7lb 5oz, by emergency c/section.

After my sweep the previous Thurs, I had a massive show on Saturday night and then my waters broke at 5am Sunday morning. Contractions started at 6am. I had a bit of a soak in the bath and then got the Tens machine going! Set off for hospital (stopping on the way to throw up!!), arriving at 8.30am, contractions getting stronger about every 5 mins. Ryans heartbeat was already a little erratic at this stage, but went to delivery room. Managed on gas and air and Tens for nearly 7 hours (how proud am I of myself!!!), with the consultant commenting that my contractions were "stonking"!! Unfortunately I wasn't dilating (only 1 cm in 2 hrs), and Ryan's hearbeat was seriously dipping at the height of the contractions so they decided a section was the best option. The moment that spinal went in was the best feeling of the day!!! Anyway, he is a little poppet, spitting image of his big brother and having had a slow start to feeding now seems to have found his appetite!!!! My doula was brilliant - just knowing she was there in the room kept me quite calm, but at times it seemed there was a party going on there was so many people in the room!

Congratulations Merlin, glad it all went well in the end.... maybe he had a tight cord around his neck?
Glad your doula worked out well

coppertop · 19/04/2005 13:36

Congratulations, Merlin!

Merlin · 19/04/2005 19:10

Pupuce - nobody mentioned cord round his neck, but he had a very strange shaped head at birth!! Bit like a ventouse - all back to normal now though. I think the contractions were pushing him down, but as I only dilated to 5cms he was going nowhere fast!!!
