Hello All, hurrah she?s here, she?s here. I?ve just made it within the Sept thread guidelines eh?
For those of you who read my previous 6am post on the 29th (September thread) you?ll know that I?d been up since 2am having contractions at 10 minute intervals. I was getting frustrated that their lack of length and intensity made me feel as if I was being led down the garden path.
Anyway I was booked in for a HB which was under threat, could I get hold of a Community MW? NO. It was a nightmare, all I was getting was voicemail after voicemail and by 11am the contractions were intensifying. I had an Indesit repair man in the kitchen and had to keep breaking off to hang onto the wall!. Finally, the labour ward found a Community MW to call me. She explained she was the only one on, a third of the team were off sick and I?d have no choice but to go to hospital but she could at least pop round to give me a check up shortly.
DH and the boys looked gutted and DS1 offered to help me pack my bag with a very heavy heart, I really wanted to cry.
All packed MW arrived and found I was 5cm, I was instantly elated. The MW now My Angel decided there and then she was gonna give me the HB I wanted and got on her mobile and begged and pleaded with colleagues to cover her clinic?s, appointments etc. Thirty minutes later it was in the bag! Yippee.
The boys were so happy DS1 started doing circuits round the ground floor, whooping and punching the air.
Anyway, cut to the chase contractions getting strong so DH and I retreat upstairs so as not to alarm the boys but they pop up every now and then to see how I am and to enquire as to where their sister was. Poor DS2, I threw up in front of him.
At 37 weeks I was told the baby was back to back and I must admit that at their height my contractions seemed more painful than in my previous pregnancies so I had copious amounts of gas and air. However, my little angel made the final rotation just before delivery. Thank The Lord.
I wanted to experiment with the ?delivery without pushing technique? so when the urge to push came I breathed with every contraction and sure enough her head descended every time, but just as she was near crowning my body would kinda ?shudder? and it made me hold back, I waited for the next contraction, same again, after the third and I still couldn?t ?let go? I made the conscious decision to push with the next contraction.
Her head came out easily but as I was waiting for her shoulders the pressure was just too much to bear, I tried really hard to hold on but I couldn?t and one push she flew out, according to DH the MW only had her head and her body flew out and flopped down onto the floor (I was squatting on the floor with my upper body leaning on the bed) snapping the umbilical cord.
Poor DH was screaming, ?...the cord, the cords snapped...? and I could hear the MWs reassuring him that it was perfectly safe.
So that was that, here was my gorgeous girl weighing in at 6lbs 9ozs, it was finally over. Two and half hours from 5cms to delivery.
Her big brothers were called to see her, they climbed up onto the bed, kissing her, stroking her, asking loads of questions etc, and the five of us cooed and cuddled and checked out the newest member of our family. It was so intimate, really bonding; I hope my boys will never forget the feeling of seeing their sister for the first time.
