foxytocin aka kiskidee got her HWB!

foxytocin · 29/09/2008 13:46

Or careful what you wish for you just might get it. if you know anything about my carry on with my Trust to get my hwb.

I woke up on Sat at 2.am with a strong period pain and thought I'll lie here as long as possible. 15 mins later I was on the toilet having a poo, thinking 'this is it', listening to dd1 laughing in her sleep and wishing her to stay asleep. At 3am contractions were 5 mins apart and was on my knees moaning which woke dh.

He begins to inflate the pool and i was now in the downstairs loo pooing again, 15 mins later and bellowing through contractions. He said, who do we need to call? So I ring my doula (3.15 am) between the next 2 contractions, then the hospital. Doula says she'll be there within an hour (she lives 30 min drive away) and i say 'I hope you get here in time!' Feeling a touch of desperation now.

By now I can't stand so I crawl back to the living room and hang over the birthing ball, producing a chorus of animal noises, Buddhist chanting, possibly even yodeling and amazed that i could some of them. the pool by now seems 1/4 filled and i wonder if it will be filled in time. i figure that i may end up delivering on land now and i didn't want that because of spd.

Dh puts the tens on but within 20 mins i feel the baby's head in my backside and feels her body take a big flip in my belly! i shout, 'you have to get me in the pool now!'

Dd1 wanders downstairs asking 'what's this?' and 'why are you in there?' i tell her baby sister is coming now and brace for the next contraction, no, bellowing! Dh phones the friends who were to look after her to find out that they had been on the lash and can't pick her up. oh well!

dh, carrying dd1, goes to turn the tap off in the kitchen and takes a fall in a puddle of water that leaked off the hose. i hear her scream and the fright in his voice so all i can imagine is blood. Thankfully he said he landed on her leg so i return back to labouring. I now know that dh settled dd1 on the couch and she watched the birth. by now the phone rings for the second time because the taxi with the midwives is lost.

i feel dd2 crowning and know if i put my hand down I'll feel her head. i tell dh that her head is coming so he looks in and cradles her little head telling me what he can see. and I'm thinking 'thank god she's coming out the right way round,' and settle in for the next contraction.

the shoulders and the rest of her came with the next contraction and i shout to dh to pick her up and bring her up face first. he says he can't because she was under me so i squat on my haunches and see this tiny body with little arms and legs up towards me and i scooped her up. by now it's no later than 4.20 and 2 mins later my doula arrives and 5 mins later the midwives arrive.

dd2 is called Alice Thomasina, weighs 8lb 6oz and has been breastfeeding like a champ since she was 20 mins old.

dd1 has a hairline fracture in her right leg and is smitten with her baby sister.

Congratulations, Foxy!!!

I bumped into Indith, and then Stealthpolarbear in Durham on Sunday, and we were all wondering when you were going to pop!

We'll have to meet up once you are sorted.

Hope dd1's leg feels better!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 29/09/2008 19:17

Aww congratulations !

And poor DD1!

Indith · 29/09/2008 19:53

Bloody Hell! What a story!

Huge congratulations to you all and some extra hugs for M and her leg.

Look forward to seeing you when the dust has settled.

my first labour was an induction from hell due to PE which is why i fought for was determined to have a home birth.

lulu and those familiar with Ina May, there comes the point where you can only let your monkey do it.

and i am touched by the kind words for dd1.

she is now treating chocolate buttons and crisps as a food group, sitting on the couch leg propped up, watching cbeebees.

dh is fascinated that a woman in labour can go from an irrational being during a contraction to a lucid one barking instructions to him. and i thank my lucky stars that i made him watch the business of being born a couple weeks ago cause he hid his head in the sand most of this pg. he thinks it was a good experience esp after dd1's birth.

starlight tell your dh this is called mumsnet for a reason. writing precis about pg and childbirth takes the fun out of childbirth.

Congrats to Foxy and wow re accidental freebirthing!!

Indith · 30/09/2008 11:28

Lol at starlight's dh. I made dh read it too and he got terribly confused "so why is she getting a pool for period pain?" "when did the MW get there?"

Have pointed out to him that given the speed ds got here if the MW takes an hour to arrive like she did last time this could be us

bythepowerofgreyskull · 30/09/2008 12:42

foxytocin · 30/09/2008 18:22

Thanking everyone who has taken time to post their good will. I am so touched.

I was in the shower earlier and thought that I would not exchange this home birth experience for any other in the world.

I feel so lucky, and I'm getting tearful at the thought of my good fortune now.

thanks guys.

Wow Foxy what an amazing and eventful birth story!! Well done to you and dh

Hope dd1 is better soon. Hopefully dd2 will take her mind off her leg!

Your birth sounds so much like mine with dd only mine was an hour longer. It's a lovely feeling to be able to say "we did it ourselves" though isn't it

Hope you are all getting some rest

xx

welliemum · 30/09/2008 20:51

I nearly fainted reading this because I was holding my breath all the way through!

What an amazing story! You must have nerves of steel to deal with all that!

Big congratulations and I hope dd1's leg is better asap.

Lovely names too

Look forward to seeing you MN-ing with the night shift!

workstostaysane · 30/09/2008 21:27

well well done foxy.
like aitch, i'm v. envious of your accidental free birth!
best wishes to dd1 for her poorly leg, but mainly well done you. i think you should write and tell ina may about your extraordinary inner monkey.

lulumama · 30/09/2008 21:29
