After going 10 days overdue I was induced at 41+3!

Was given pessary at 11am and told to go for a walk, so me and DP went down to the cafe and got a hot chocolate and something to eat.

Started feeling pressure after about 30 minutes, wasn't too uncomfy.

We were just moping about for a while and then decided we will go and buy some credit for the bedside tv/internet/phone thing. Dp would stay for half an hour then pop to his mums to have a break (he hates hospitals) and i would either watch tele, go on the net or go to sleep.

At around 4pm I was trying out the internet and had JUST logged onto mumsnet when I felt baby move, a pop and a small gush. I told DP I think my waters have broken and asked him to fetch a midwife. She came and told me to put a pad on and she would come back in ten minutes to check if it was waters.

I put a pad on and started to leak more and more to the extent that the bed, my pants and me were soaking but I was unsure what to do as I've never had it before so just sort of sat there scared to move.

She came back and checked me saying "yes waters have definatly broke, ok i believe you"

Then she did an internal exam and wasn't gentle in the slightest. The first exam i had the midwife made me sit on my fists to tilt my pelvis as cervix was posterior, this one didn't bother and her knuckles pressing against me made me cry she was doing it that hard i was only 2cms dilated

Contractions started coming near enough straight away at 2 minutes apart and VERY intense so about 5ish I asked for some pain relief, She gave me some co-codamol which did absolutly naff all and told me to go for a walk or a bath. In the end I decided to try a bath as was in so much pain was willing to do anything! Was in there 5 minutes as it didn't help at all.

Walking back from the bathroom there was a woman in my cubical (I was on a ward) with a big bottle of gas and air, cue me literally sprinting towards it screaming "is it switched on????" like a crazy woman. She said it was so i grabbed the mouthpiece and started sucking

I was then left alone to 'get on with it'. I had asked for an epidural but was told I need to be over 4cms dilated first so had to wait.

At about 5:30pm I was lying on the bed sucking the G&A when the curtains started twitching, I thought thank god they have come to check me!! Curtains opened and a dinner lady said "Just letting you know tea is being served" Erm great, I was lying there in just my dressing gown legs a kimbo, i think she saw more than she bargained for lol.

At about 7pm I was lying watching emmerdale when I got a really strong contraction so grabbed the buzzer and called a nurse, she turned up and i asked her to examine me as i still wanted the epidural. She said "yes ok" then buggered off and didn't come back

At 7:30 just as corrie had started it felt like there was no gap inbetween the contractions but i wasn't sure if this was me or the fact i was totally gone from the G&A. All of a sudden I started pushing, I turned to DP and said "I'm pushing and i shouldnt be!!" He looked at me none plus, so i shouted "get a midwife" He ran off and 3 midwives and a porter ran in. The one examined me and said "yes the head is right there, dont push!".

Next thing I know they have taken the gas off me giving me the mouthpiece to suck (cruel) put the bars up on the bed and i was being zoomed up to the delivery suite. I was shaking like a leaf as I was unsure what was happening. I saw the midwife that buggered off in the lift and told her "see, this is why I wanted to be checked" she just looked away

We got to the delivery room and they started bringing in the baby lamp thing and i felt a flush of excitment but was still in pain. They asked me to move to the other bed which i managed after about 5 minutes then told me to start pushing.

I was trying and trying but nothing seemed to be happening, dp was trying to hold my hand i was trying not to as i didn't want to hurt him. All I could here was nasty internal woman saying "she was 2cms at 4pm" over and over again. Next i was being told to push through the burning.

I was screaming at the top of my voice when i was told that the head was out!! One more push and Brooke Olivia was born at 8pm exactly weighing 8lbs 3oz.

Next it was time to deliver placenta, she told me to push which i did and she was pulling, then the cord snapped off so i had to 'deliver' it myself after just giving birth i had lost all feeling down there so that was hard!!

My dressing gown was covered in blood and i was knackered but happy.

I was let out of hospital at 11pm that night

She is 9 days old now and absolutly gorgeous im totally in love

Wow! What a story. I like how you bookmark the events with TV shows. Adds to the "drama" shall we say.

So glad to hear your news.

Sazisi · 05/09/2008 16:13

Congratulations
Amazing story.

I though midwives weren't meant to yank out the placenta..anyone know anything?

Sazisi · 05/09/2008 16:15

Just been checking out your pics, she is sooooooooo sweet

iliketosleep · 05/09/2008 18:01

Yes, had to mention the tv shows

Although the only part i can remember from it is the commercial for scrabble scratchcard where he puts the 'E' upside down lol

It was a scary experience, i forgot to mention about the fact that they left me lying in the wet bed and when i was pushing and asking for someone to help me nasty internal woman said "what do youwant us to do reach in and pull it out"

Worst out of all 4 of my births but had a perfect result so i cant complain

You have done a great job there ILTS...well done, congratulations and a big welcome to the world little one

I'm gobsmacked at the MWs though ; you'd think they see enough to know that women can progress very quickly, especially if it's a fourth labour like yours. I hope you are going to put in a complaint when you feel up to it

iliketosleep · 05/09/2008 22:18

Thanks daisy

Well i thought that too as my last 2 births were around the 4-5 hour mark, although to progress as quickly as i did this time surprised me. It went from nothing to contractions every 2 minutes like that

I dont think i'll bother with a complaint as can't see me getting anywhere with it, How i see it is, I have my baby she is absolutly beautiful and healthy and we both got out of there unharmed

I'm still undecided on the complaint but I would rather people not go through what I did so I think I might.

Congrats she is georg. Makes me broody and my LO isn't even 3 months yet

cyteen · 10/09/2008 08:57

She's a little peach ILTS Well done you!

Hope you do decide to complain, that is a catalogue of wrongness and those midwives need some attitude adjustment pronto. In the meantime, enjoy lovely Brooke and congratulate yourself on a job well done, especially since you did it pretty much without professional help!

Emmsy1 · 04/10/2008 05:48

Congratulations ILTS Brooke is a real cutie, cant wait to have my own little cutie. (I MC last September and the previous April so makes this one that all the more precious )
