When would you tell your manager about a pregnancy after fertility treatment?

I’m currently 6 weeks pregnant. I did have fertility treatment to help me conceive and my employer was aware as they approved time off for me to attend last minute appointments etc.

I guess I am now wondering when do I let my manager know? I feel like I want to wait until 12weeks but I’m conscious it may come up in a catch up 1:1 before then.

what would you do?

I told mine when I was having the treatment as I needed time off, so if I recall I did tell them after my positive pregnancy test. But kept it low key as it was very early days.

Congratulations! I’m currently 9 weeks pregnant after fertility treatment. Do you have an early scan with the fertility clinic? I told my managers after I’d had that scan at 6 weeks, but asked them not to tell other colleagues. I’ve found it helpful them knowing, they’ve been understanding if I’m struggling with symptoms and need to work from home more often. It also helps me feel less anxious about performing less well or being a bit distracted- they know why and that it’s not permanent! I guess those things depend on what your manager and role is like though.

Also if you need to take any days off sick for sickness or anything they can put it down as pregnancy-related which doesn’t count towards absence triggers.

It’s really up to you- don’t feel pressured that you need to say sooner than you want to because they know about the treatment. My first pregnancy (which was ivf, but before my employer had a policy on leave for fertility treatment, so didn’t know I went through it), I waited to 12 weeks. Second one I mentioned at 10 simply because my nausea and fatigue were affecting my work and I knew they’d be understanding
