IT'S A GIRL!

Finally! After 36 hours I had a baby girl!

The doctors told me my due date was the 6th of Feb, which I never understood and I've said from the beginning it should be the 14th because of my dates. I went all the way up to the 14th and started having contractions! By Friday evening they'd gotten pretty intense so I used my TENS unit (NOTE TO EVERYONE...THESE ARE AMAZING), had dinner and went to hospital. Unfortunately I was only 3cm dilated, and after 4 more hours of jumping up and down was still the same so they sent me home!

Saturday I went back in because contractions were close, but my waters still hadn't broken. The midwife checked and told me I was still just 3cm dilated, and broke my waters. Contractions came thick and fast, on gas and air and pethadine, needed to push, roaring thru contractions and yes...still just 3cm! The midwife then discovered baby was back to back and I would need a c section. I was heartbroken because I wanted a natural waterbirth more than anything, and feel confident I could have gone through with it. The surgeon said they could try to induce me but the chances weren't good it would work and might take another 4 hours. By this time I'd been going 36 hours and felt enough was enough.

The op was fantastic, no pain and everyone kept me calm because I'd been adamant I didn't want one. At 20:54 beautiful baby Jessica was born. I was kept in for 3 days, and am now feeling really good. She's beautiful, and it's like a spiritual experience every time I look at her.

I can't praise the Midwives of Worthing hospital enough. They were always kind, caring and although short staffed made me feel like I was the most important person on their shift.

I was totally unprepared for how much I love her, and I can't wait to see what else motherhood has in store for me. Pics up as soon as I can work out how.

lol TY all, and suzi bless your heart. I'm so lucky with how it all went, and the midwives were aware I didn't want an op so they made sure I was OK with having one, and that I wouldn't feel bad about it later which I don't.

That is great to hear that a birth that went differently to how you wanted it to was still such a good experience. Well done and enjoy your lovely girl
