StripeyBumpsMum's BirthStory - VBAC/CS Plan I (finally !)

Ok, lets see if I can type this before new DD wakes up!

After emCS for foetal distress/failure to progress and miserable labour with DS, Plan A was to have VBAC for this pg - Plan A

Baby breech until week 36, so el CS - Plan B

Baby finally turned - on subsequent weeks, told by MW 'likely to be labouring this weekend', Cons 'this weekend' etc etc - VBAC Plan C

Due date been and gone, can't be induced, booked el CS for 12 Nov - Plan D

Contractions start Saturday 6pm (after doing all Xmas shopping assuming can't drive after CS!). Arrive hospital midnight - 'going to have this baby very soon' - VBAC Plan E

Contract regularly all night, 1 in 2 at some stages. But cervix posterior, never dilate beyond 0.5cm.

By 12 noon, trying to get Reg to assess me. Me in serious distress - the original 'just get this thing out of me now!' type labour!

Finally after several emergencies, at 4.30 pm Reg comes to see me to say not in labour at all (er, I beg to differ!). No risk factors to do em CS - best they can do is ask cons to see me 8.30 Mon to bring forward el CS one day. If space...and as not in labour, no pain relief other than paracetamol. Ask to be taken outside and shot. Or I will start killing people. Not in a happy place IYKWIM

Against advice, ask to go home, to wait it out until Monday morning them demand el CS - Plan F. Reg reluctantly agrees but asks to do VE. A good 2-3cm dilated to everyone's surprise. So not allowed to go home - now VBAC Plan G

Stuck at 4cm for what seems like hours, pethidine, lots of shouting. Suggest epidural goes in as looking like em CS for failure to progress - em CS Plan H

Quick VE, again surprise everyone as jumped to 7cm - VBAC plan I

In what seems like about five minutes (probably about 20 in reality), pushing, no time for VE, baby born very quickly after small cut. 2.54 am 12 Nov

Totally ecstatic, pushing was great. Spent entire labour apologising for being shouty and hysterical.

DD 8lb, great condition. Feeding well. DS not sure about her but thinks the toy doggy she very cleverly bought for him is fab. Feel great myself. DH absolutely bloody marvellous. Had lovely delivery MW.

Sorry for long post (believe me, it felt a lot longer to me!) Having allowed me to make it to the end of the post, I am now going to go and stare at my gorgeous new daughter

Sara85 · 14/11/2007 15:36

Congrats stripey, sounds like it was a long couple of days!can i ask a dull question-what's vbac?

Soph73 · 14/11/2007 16:01

Congrats. Have been told I can try for VBAC after an emergency CS with DS so reading this has spurred me on What´s DD´s name if you don´t mind me asking?

stripeybumpsmum · 15/11/2007 13:01

Thank you everyone.I am indeed deeply smug x

Sara85 - VBAC is vaginal birth after caesarian. So VBA2C is vaginal after 2 sections, HBAC home birth after section etc

We don't do half measures for names - having no second name all my life, I inflict my revenge via my children. So she is:

Annabelle (because we like the sound of it and the meaning and the many variations)
Florence (which has a connection with her conception, and happens to be my paternal grandmother's name)
Maria (after DH mum. Sadly she had a fatal accident 2 months ago and died without regaining consciousness but with my hand holding hers to the then kicking bump).

x
