In August 1999 I was pg with my first baby.

At 10 days overdue, went into hospital to be induced, to be told they were too busy and that I had to wait until morning (wah). Decided to go home and started having gentle contractions at 4am.

Woke DH at 6am as was too excited to let him sleep [selfish emoticon]

MIL drove us to hospital as pre-arranged the day before. MWs said that I was probably in very, very early stages and that they would give me some prostin gel to speed me up.

Was on ward, all fine, but slow. Highlight was when MW was examining me with a curtain drawn around me and a visitor from next bed popped her head round the curtain to ask if there was a spare chair!! MW snapped at her to go away and the woman clearly said "BITCH!" which made me and

Moved to a side room as it went ON and ON - kept asking for epidural but MW said I wasn't dilated enough (gah). Told DH to get the MW and give me pethidine, he said "oh no, you said I wasn't to let you have it, no matter what you said" cue me, head swivelling around 360 degress "GET ME THE FUCKING PETHIDINE" lol

MW said OK, but you could have your epi now if you want it YAY. So, insisted on walking down the corridor to delivery suite. Got on bed and was relieved that i could have my epidural!

Felt wonderful after that, and dozed until 7.30am! DH slept in a reclining chair all night bless him! I only woke up when they came to examine me.

At 7.30am was told it was time to push. Heave heave, out she popped at 8.54am. Kicked a student midwife, hard, for saying something inappropriate and then my lovely DD was born. 8lbs 6oz

She had a kefalhaematoma, a swelling on her head the size of half an orange which was a dreadful shock - MW said it would go within a few months - and it did

Fastforward 4 1/2 years. 11 days over, went to be induced (can you see a theme here?!)

Had the gel thing again in the morning, then a sweep at 5 ish. OMFG did that work!! Walked about 3miles to delivery suite, stopping every two minutes to hold the wall and gasp, causing passers by scuttle away in horror!

Got into delivery suite, was asked if a student MW could break my waters, said yes fine. Anaesthetist came to give me my epidural, put the needle in then got called away on an emergency (gah) without putting hte drugs through!

Left to it for shift changeover, felt the urge to push and DH had to shout for MW! She looked and said "hmm, no bulging of bag" (or something).

me "but I need to push" (was shaking with the exertion of not pushing!)

her "so push!!"

me "I can't, I ahven't had my epi"

her "there's no time for that now!!"

me "shriiiiieeeeeeek" push push for 5 minutes then pop! Out came DS. Gorgeous, 8lbs 9oz, blonde, blue eyes Fed immediately.
