Well...here's how not to get yourself a home birth!
My waters broke at about 8.45 on friday night whilst I was posting on MN, so I phoned the MW and dp started pumping up the pool. All going well so far!
Then MW arrived and said that there was meconium in my waters. No home birth, no pool, no active labour, no midwife unit. I was to go to labour ward and be strapped to a monitor for the whole labour. I was pretty much devestated and crying and sobbing. All I wanted was my lovely lentily weavery plinky plonk home birth in my wonderful pool! So my mum arrived to pick up my dd and off we go to hospital.
At hospital I had my first proper contraction at about 11 and by 00.30 they were all on top of each other. It was really shitty as I couldn't move and had to lie on my back. All I wanted to do was move around and stand up and I couldn't. G&A really helped and baby WIlliam was born at 00.42 with a few big pushes.
I didn't even really see him before he was whisked away by the paediatrician and onto the recussitare. He was fine and was wrapped up and put in a cot whilst I delivered the placenta, which was huge!
We were all guessing his weight at about 9 1/2 pounds or so, so imagine my shock when he tipped the scales at 10lb 8oz! I couldn't believe I did it without any stitches, only a small tear!
Because my poor little baby was so big he had to have his blood sugar taken every 3 hours, so people kept stabbing him and squeezing out his blood. This continued all night and all day yesterday, he has horrid little marks all over his heels! All is well though and my big baby is feeding well and is practically chewing my norks off!
