My partner and I just found out we're expecting our first... But we are the primary caregivers for his youngest brother due to a bad home circumstance. We're going to wait at least until the dating scan, so that we know it's really a thing (in my mind until we hear the heartbeat I could lose it at any moment, but once we hear it, chances are less than 5%).

We're probably going to sit him down and explain everything to him. Not just that I'm pregnant, but also that it does not mean we love him less or care any less about him, and that it's going to be really important that he follows the rules at home because there will be some things that we won't be able to afford happening (like him being loud or turning lights on outside our bedroom door when we're trying to sleep).

I'm also probably going to explain that this could mean I'll get sick or be bitchy and that especially as I get closer to my due date, I'm going to be relying on him to be mature enough to get himself ready for school (he's 14).
