It started as organised as it went on, had just read dd her bedtime story and DH put her to bed when I got the first contraction.

Figured within 15 minutes that This Was It so called my parents. Used TENs while I was establishing and lots of back rubbing from DH and my mum. Called the midwife after a couple of hours and abandoned the TENs for a bath - waters breaking en route to the bathroom. By the time the midwife arrived I was in full on moo-ing mode and once that developed into bellowing I decamped out of the bath into the sitting room to give the gas & air a shot. Had four or five really poweful contractions but the G&A did take the edge off and also gave everyone else a laugh as I was snoring between contactions. Second midwife was called but I started involuntary pushing, crapped for Scotland then was pushing in ernest so my mum had to step in to be second midwife!

I could feel the head coming so suddenly decided what a good idea it would be to do it myself, clamped a hand on the head and instructed the midwife "could you guard my perineum please" and eased it out! The rest followed and ds arrived with a wail and the second midwife appeared a minute later!!

It was an incredible experience - still damn sore but having a home birth made it a totally different labour to last time, I felt so in control & physically and psychologically a lot less battered afterwards. DH was pretty apprehensive about a HB but is now a convert.

Wow, what a fantastic birth!

Huge congrats to all three (four!) of you.

Thanks everyone & at the Feb crew! Dd has taken it incredibly well so far. Can't believe how adaptable 2 year olds are, going to bed one night and getting up to a new baby she just said "oooh, a baby!" then tucked into her breakfast!! I'm sure she must be plotting her revenge.
