I got Ellie's email in time and zoomed off to be with her at the hospital

She had a beautiful little boy at about 11.15am. She did brilliantly - laboured in the bath for most of the time as the pool was already being used by someone else, had a little bit of gas and air and gave birth kneeling on the bed. Ellie was incredibly calm and controlled, she had a tiny graze and no tears and was able to virtually skip off down the corridor afterwards for a bath.

The midwife was great, very supportive and totally respected Ellie's wish not to have syntometrine for the third stage. In the end she didn't even have to syntocinon and pushed the placenta out on her own

It was a massive privilege to be with Ellie - thank you so much! Can I come next time too

great ellie. thanks for sharing that with us. it all sounds to have went so well - i'm glad fro you that daisy and cath were both there and you got what you wanted. i am also really interested in delivering the placenta naturally - even tho the hospital has kinda actively tried to put me off it.

can i ask - what was the pain liked and what helped you through it - given that you were only on gas and air!!

fryalot · 14/04/2007 23:01

well done, ellie. Congratulations.

EllieKthePA · 14/04/2007 23:10

erm........

it didn't hurt as much as i remembered it had first time!

staying at home helped, i felt less pressuure to have pain relief, the bath really helped, and having gone in with my mindset on avoiding the injection, which meant no epidural, really helped, i nearly caved in towards the end but just thought about how it would stop me having the 3rd stage i wanted.

i didn't find TENS that much help, the boost seemed to make contractions more intense, breathing thru them and keeping focused on getting the ending i wanted got me thru it x

weeonion · 14/04/2007 23:17

thank you

DaisyMOO · 15/04/2007 00:05

Yep, I did say to Cath that I thought Justin wouldn't make it in time Actually he got there with time to spare (alhtough he wouldn't have done if he'd walked )

I was a little shocked to end up assisting the mw I must admit!

kittyhas6 · 15/04/2007 22:18

Well done Ellie, so glad everything went well for you

CaptainDippy · 15/04/2007 22:36

Hello Kitty - Congrats again on little Ronnie! How are you doing?? Keep meaning to catch up with you and say I KNOW YOUR DOULA!!!!!! Catherine lives just down the road from me and is on our local NCT committee alongside me!! It's a small world, after all ......

kittyhas6 · 16/04/2007 10:33

Hello CD! Actually my doula is called George, but a lovely lady called Catherine filmed the birth. Comes from SA is that the same person? How are you doing?

CaptainDippy · 16/04/2007 12:12

Yes - same person - she said it was a wonderful, wonderful birth and she was so incredibly priviledged to be asked to film it - She was completely buzzing when she got home - bless her!!!

I am fine - just want bubba to come soon - LOVE being PG and not feeling particularly uncomfortable, just finding it tough with two others to care for - I am sure you completely understand!! also feeling restless now etc .....

How are you? How is Ronnie? ... and all the others??

kittyhas6 · 16/04/2007 12:44

Aw CD, that's lovely to hear. I can't wait to see the rushes for the prog etc. That's why I agreed to have it filmed again. Such precious memories that otherwise fade so quickly.
Glad you're feeling fine

My life is very hectic!!! My eyes are so red with tiredness that I look like I've been crying all the time

Ronnie, sadly is a crying baby, unlike my last who slept for England and hardly cried at all. It's very tiring, he can gripe for hours, only wanting to suck. Thank heavens for lansinoh that's for sure!!

Are you going to have yours at home?

CaptainDippy · 16/04/2007 18:07

Bless you honey - I am sorry he is a crying baby ... hoping he is more settled soon. [[hugs]] You are amazing!!

No, I am not planning on a Homebirth - going to local Birthing Centre (Crowborough).

Hope the film is fantastic .... Catherine is sooo worried she hasn't done it justice; but I've told her I am sure it will be absolutely fine .....

WestCountryLass · 19/04/2007 21:34

A belated congratulations Ellie!

oooggs · 20/04/2007 20:23
