Aprilmeadow's Early Arrival

Well that was a shock!!

Went for a lie down on the sofa on Monday night at 9pm and pretty much straight away what i thought were BH's started. Didnt really think too much of it as i have had them on and off in the evenings for the past week or so. By about 10pm they were more regular but i wasnt timing them i just merrily carried away watching Lost! Went upstairs at 11pm and took my make up off - something i never do - then i felt this big rumble and that was my waters going, only problem was that they were blood not water. Frantically got hold of my mum to come over whilst still 'weeing' blood. Raced to hospital with my mum whilst dh waited for my sister to arrive to stay the night with ds. Ds was now awake and wondering where i was going with Granny.

Got to hosp at 23.37 and was put on the monitor and given scan to see if baby had turned as had been reech for aout 4 weeks or so. Heartbeat was strong and she had indeed turned . Dh arrived shortly after as he had tried to settle ds before he left. Was examined and told 2-3cm at about 1am. At 2.30am the pains were 2mins apart and soooooo painful. Gave in and had pethadine at about 3am - great stuff. Managed to have about 40mins of relief and then had the urge to push. Three pushes later at 03.54 on Tuesday 10th April and Ella Claire Elisabeth SHOT out like a cannonball! 5lbs 10.5oz of beautiful tinie tiny baby. Was in total shock as the midwife told me that she thought i needed a poo!!! in fact the 'poo' was the baby delivered all in the 3rd push.
No stitches required - yay!! Got onto the ward at 6am feeling great! Had to have Ella's blood sugars tested as she was under 37weeks (but only by 2days). Needed them to be 2.5 or above but her first reading came back at 1.1. She took t breast feeding really well but wasnt getting enough to be able to get the levels up. They suggested putting her on formula just to get the levels up and then switch back to breast to maintain. Thought that this was the best idea. They gave her 2 formula feeds and then just used it to top up for one more. By 8pm they were up enough not to have to have tests done anymore and also to allow us to come home today. Poor Ella has about 10 punctures on her heels as a result. We are on a 3hr feeding routine and she is feeding like a trooper which is great. The hospital was soo busy that it took until 4.30pm to get my discharge papers. Was tearing my hair out and kept saying that i needed to collect ds from nursery by 6pm as i was missing him so much.

Feels so nice to be home and ds is so pleased with his sister. She is so tiny and makes him look so grown up and he's not 2 for another 2weeks!!

AM so sorry my lovely, I missed your announcement! Oh well better late than never, CONGRATS!
(Love the name Ella by the way, would have been on my list but my little sisters Ellie so wouldn't have really worked!)

Congratulations on the safe arrival of your daughter. I have an Ella too and my twowere both born in the same month. My son was just 2 when Ella arrived. There are still not too many Ellas around which keeps it more unusual. She is the only one in her school.
