Asking godparents

Hey mums , need some advice ! I want to ask my DP sisters to be godmother but I don't know how to , I want to ask her before I have my child and am struggling to find a way , Any suggestions? Something different am finding it hard to know what to write in a card when asking her as my am not due untill November but am planning on asking her next month

You're overthinking this. Just ask her, unless there's some serious backstory you're missing.

just thought that putting a bit of effort into asking her would be a nice gesture

When I've been asked to be a godmother, the fact that someone wanted me to take that role was special enough in its own. You don't need to do anything else.

I wouldn't be tempting fate, personally.

I asked this on here and got a lot of similar answers to you and in the end I asked my ds godparents the day after he was born when they had their first cuddle. We were all very emotional and it was nice that the baby was here first. In contrast my dp was asked to be a God parent by a friend when they showed us their first scan picture.

Do what ever makes you comfortable, google it as I found lots of quirky things you can buy to ask.

I don't think she's over thinking obviously what she means is that she wants to surprise her in an original way of asking and not just saying do you want to be Godmother. I think a personalised card is a lovely idea and maybe a small gift saying Godmother on it..
I think asking Godmother/father is special and it's nice for them to have a keepsake

I have 16 God children. The nicest way of being asked was when it was unexpected.

Maybe write her a card noting the qualities she has that mean she will be a good god-parent?

Generally people have three - two same gender and one other. Don't do something for one that you don't have time to do fot others.

I don't think it's tempting fate as someone has commented in my religion this is how it has always been done before they baby is born, either way the person will still be the child's Godmother. I had a stillborn last year and it was still really special for his Godparents to say that they were his Godparents regardless of if they got the chance to do it or not. They still are and always will be his Godparents.

I don't mean to be callous, but what does a godparent mean in your religion. It's usually someone to assist with the spiritual/faith guidance of a child. If the child doesn't survive to birth there's no role.

As we can't tell what religion the OP follows, I'm not sure how I could be expected to guess the normal workings of it.

Titty but before birth the Godparent could be praying for the child, for the child's safe delivery and future.

OP I get it you want to surprise your friend and make it special I think it's nice, nothing wrong with putting in some extra effort sometimes. I think michellemc has a nice idea about a personalised card and a little godmother something.
