How accurate at 16 wks?

I couldn't resist and went and had a scan at 16 weeks. Sonogropher told us we are having a boy and seemed very confident. I instantly went home and ordered a new blind and accessories for their bedroom in blue. My S-I-L then told me it may not be accurate!? Anyone have experience of this or know on a percentage how accurate a 16 week gender scan is?

Getting told you are having a boy is fairly accurate, if you were told a girl then that's not accurate as It might just be that the testes haven't descended yet

When I had my scan for DC2 at 13 weeks, I asked them if they can tell yet and they said not at 13 weeks because girls sometimes look like they've got boy bits because they haven't formed properly yet. I think at 16 weeks they wouldn't tell you unless they were very sure.

I had a scan at 16+5. I was told girl but told not to throw away any receipts! And have it checked again at my 20wk scan, baby wasn't opening her legs!!
I am pretty confident as from my 12 wk scan the nub was clearly a girl.
Generally they can get a girl wrong as bits might be hiding but if they see boy bits they see boy bits!!

Both my girls have blue bedroom blinds. Their genitals haven't fallen off yet.

As pp said, I think they are more sure with boys than girls. I was told son at 16 weeks and they were right.

Even if it did turn out to be a girl would it really matter what colour their blinds were?

Why enforce gender on them from so young - I don't understand it.

They will never say they're 100% sure, but at 16 weeks it's usually pretty accurate.

@Trumpstinycock and @HomityBabbityPie I wasn't after opinions on how to raise my child just how accurate a 16 week scan can be.

You can often tell sex accurately from around 14/15 weeks. We had a private scan at 15+5 and we're told boy which was confirmed st the 20 weeks nhs scan.

Also, it's more accurate (less margin for error) if you're told it's going to be a boy than girl. It's more common for errors when people are told girl and it turns out to be a boy if that makes sense.
